Problems with playback of AVCHD

Hi Everybody,
Just trying out the Panasonic AG-HMC151E Camcorder and tried importing a couple of files that I shot. I recorded in PH, the highest quality mode and used the AVCHD 1080i25 (50i) preset. I then simply imported my .mts files from the SDHC Card. Playing back on camera or through VLC shows no problems with the files, but when I playback in Source or Program windows, I get some sort of strange dark flickering, especially when panning. When the picture is still it looks crisp and clear. I tried exporting to H264 and there were no problems with the exported material.
I know that AVCHD can be tough to play with, but I've got a QuadCore and 4GB Ram, can anyone explain to me, what's going on?
Thanks in advance
Cheers,
Jeppe

Glad that you got it sorted.
The Quality settings are interesting. For some systems, Highest is the best. For some systems, Automatic is best. Depends on the source footage and the computer. I know that many users worry, when we tell them to try both and see what works best. It would seem that we should be able to say that one will be the best for all circumstances, but we cannot.
Same for Hardware Acceleration. Our general comments are: if set to min. set to max. If set to max., set to min. If one is better, then increment until the problem returns and then increment up, or down, one "notch." It all depends on one's system.
Thanks for reporting your success, and drop in any time.

  • I am having a problem with playback in Final Cut 6.0.6

    Hello,
I am having a problem with playback in Final Cut 6.0.6 of 1920x1080 60p footage.
I transcoded MTS files shot on a Sony NEX FS100 into Apple Pro Res mov files but the
playback stutters in Final Cut and QTime making it impossible to edit. Is this because the files
are just so big the computer is having a problem processing them? If so what should I edit in to preserve the
    best quality?
I am Running Mac OSX 10.6.8
    2x2.4 Ghz Quad Core Intel
    32 GB 1066 MHz DDR3
Admittedly my FCUT is out of date, I intend to up to X when I finish off an ongoing project.
    Thanks Luci

You might consider running diskwarrior on your drive (alsoft.com).  And run diskutility, repair disk.  A corruption of the drive could cause problems.  Also, drive speed starts to fall sharply as the drive gets full.  Make sure you have a minimum of 10% free space on the drive.  You might also get a utility to check the speed of the drive.  I think Aja has one.
Also, do you have anything else connected to the firewire bus?  If so, try disconnecting it.  You might also try disconnecting ethernet and turning off your airport.  Resetting your fcp preferences couldn't hurt.

Please, run the DirectX diagnostics tool (32-bit). Run dxdiag.exe (Start - Run or Win key +R) then press enter or click "OK". Once the diagnostics completes, "Save All information..." to a text file. Please, attach this file to your post. Be aware that you will have to zip this file before attaching it here.

  • Solutions to "Problem with playback/recording devi...

I've only had a few microphone/audio problems with a friend on Skype not being able to hear me or vice versa, nothing that couldn't be fixed. Usually the call would at least pick up even if there was no sound going through. But just out of the blue two days ago (Monday, May 4th), when my friend tried to call me, the call dropped without any explanation. I tried also to call, but then every time, it wouldn't even last long enough to ring and it would just drop. It kept having a notification saying "Problem with playback device" or "Problem with recording device". I've tried signing out of Skype, restarting my computer, checking all monitor audio levels, etc... I always keep my Skype up to date, but I checked again for any new in case that would allow the call to go through, but it didn't, even after I updated it to the lastest version 7.4.0.102. I tried calling Skype Testing Service a million times, but still the call won't even stay on long enough for me to read what it says under the microphone and speaker box after clicking on the connection icon; all I have time to see is "can't access sound card". The thing is, I can hear the millisecond of ringing tone, the sound it makes when the call drops, and all other sound Skype makes, so it's not a question of all sounds being on mute, but for some reason it says I have a problem with playback and recording device! Why is that?? I already searched here in the community Q&As for possible solutions to fixing the problem, but double-checking the audio settings under Tools > Options has not changed anything unfortunately. PLEASE HELP!!!

I've never seen that message.  What exactly did it say?  You're using the native media from the T3i, it hasn't been converted, it's never been inside of Final Cut Pro?

  • Problem with Playback device on windows 10

Just today i downloaded the new Windows 10 update and i like it for the most part. But i went on skype today for a video chat and a pop up came up saying that i have a problem with playback device and i cannot video or voice call. skype worked fine yesterday on windows 8, need solutions ASAP.

Do minimize the chances of having issues with other audio/video devices: 1.  Uninstall Cyberlink Webcam Splitter.  It my not work properly in Windows 10.2.  Disable Stereo Mix. You can also download and install the latest Realtek Driver suite even if you have the latest/same drivers installed.  The suite can resolve issues. Download and install the latest generic Realtek audio drivers (High Definition Audio Codecs - 64bit Windows 10)http://www.realtek.com/downloads/ I've outlined most of the causes and solutions here:http://community.skype.com/t5/Windows-desktop-client/Problem-With-Playback-device/m-p/3356467/highlight/true#M282763

  • Elements is inteferring with playback of AVCHD footage with Windows Media Player

I recently downloaded a trial version of Elements.
As soon as I installed this, I started having problems with playing ACVHD mts files in Windows Media Player. Whereas I have never had trouble playing these files in Windows Media Player before, after installing Elements the footage suffers from significant stuttering and the sound drops in and out.  Interestingly, the footage continues to work perfectly in VLC and in Pixela ImageMixer. There is also no problem with AVI-DV footage.
As soon as I unistalled Elements the problem disappeared. I have replicated this several times by reinstalling an uninstalling Elements.
Can anyone explain why this could be happening? I am running Vista Busiess. My video camera is the Cannon Legria HF20, and I captured the footage using the supplied ImageMixer 3 software.
Unlike Windows 7, I don't believe that Vista has native support for AVCHD, and the only reason I can play AVCHD footage is because I have ImageMixer software installed (which came with the camera). Could there be some conflict between this software and Elements?
Any help would be appreciated. I am really tearing my hair out.
Update: I have also noticed that the same problem occurs in Windows Live Movie Maker when I install Elements.

I'd be inclined to uninstall both PRE and ImageMixer. Then install PRE first and ImageMixer last.

  • Problems with playback through iPod headphones

I've had an issue when I plug in my supplied iPod headphones that the audio playback is muted and the vocals unclear. I checked the headphones on my Mac and when plugged all the way in...same result. Any suggestions short of returning them?
    PowerBook G4, iPhone   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

    Thanks for responding.
Yes I'm using iTunes to rip the CDs.
I've tried ripping some songs to AAC 256 kbps without VBR, AAC 128 kbps without VBR, MP3 256 kbps with VBR, MP3 256 kbps without VBR and MP3 128 kbps without VBR. Same problem. Songs play fine on computer when played out of iTunes. Put songs on Shuffle and some will play and other will partially play before skipping to the next song.
The same songs ripped to AAC 256 kbps with VBR played just fine on my first generation 1GB Shuffle. On the new 2GB Shuffle they don't. I wasn't worried when the 2GB Shuffle I bought had a problem I thought it was just a case of one bad apple in the bunch (no pun intended). Now that I've gotten the replacement 2GB Shuffle and it has the same problem I'm left wondering if there's not a problem with them in general.

  • Problems with Playback Device ?

Im using Skype for desktop and it doesnt make the noises when I receive a message. I tried checking if the noise all together wasn't working and when I tried called the Echo / Sound Test Service it told me there were problems with the playback device. The sound works fine on other apps it's just that it doesn't seem to work on Skype. I went on the sounds tabs in the options menu and I selected the correct device to play the sound with but it still won't work. I am using an ASUS laptop.

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.
Go to Windows Start and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file. Please, attach this file to your post.

  • Problem with playback distortion. Possible latency buffer issue?

I have noticed a few other posts in the same vain as this but with no clear answers so here is my take on the problem:
I am experiencing a distorted slowed down playback through logic pro 8 only occasionally which can only be fixed wit a full system restart. It sounds very much like a latency/buffer issue but to be honest I am not too great at fixing this myself. I have tried to change the buffer size to no avail. Recording seems to be fine mostly but it is just on playback. Although today i did experience the same sound issues when recording.
I am using a brand new macbook 2.4 ghz with a behringer xenix 1622 mixing desk and a usb audio device. I have only just switched to a mac and have recorded before on my pc with the same desk and interface for over 2 years without a problem, so I am positive it is not the external hardware that is at fault.
I am getting exactly the same problem when I use Garageband.
Is it just the apple products which do this?
Is this a common problem with an easy fix?
I just dont know to be honest with you, i dont pretend to be an expert in the field, it is infuriating.
Is there a problem with my machine? If so I can change it no problem.
Please if anyone knows how I can sort this please let me know.
I am gutted because I bought a mac thinking they were designed for music production, i dont want a pc again!
    Thanks.

Can you be more specific on your usb device; Make & model... USB2? Visit the manufacturer's website, check compatibility & make sure you've got the latest driver. If you haven't already, run "Software Update" (under the Apple logo in the top left of your screen) & download the updates... this will take a while, so go & get yourself a coffee! Make sure you turn Airport off when you want to use Logic.
    If you're still having prob's check out this link;

It's written for Logic 7, but most of it's in the same place.

  • Problems with export of AVCHD

    Hi everybody,
Just finished editing my movie, and now we want to move into sound editing. In order to give the sound designer something to work with, I wanted to export a "poorer quality" of the complete film, since he doesn't need the picture to be in top quality. However, now I tried a couple of different settings, mostly MPEG2, but I'm occuring quite a strange error. Occasionally the movie will flickr and loop a couple of frames of the film. There's nothing wrong with the source file, so I'm pretty sure this is happening in the export. My source material is 1080i, but I'm quite confused as to what is causing this.
Looking forward to any help you might be able to offer,
    Best Regards
    Jeppe

Tried essentially everything and is still not close to solving this. In the beginning I thought it was specific spots in the movie that caused this, but there doesn't seem to be any pattern to when these loops will happen:
I noticed this info in a youtube video, seems like someone has had the exact same problem.
"Just something someone else has a problem with. CS4, Panasonic  AVCHD, after exporting the footage, it seems to have duplicated frames,  audio is off sync, etc. So what could have caused this? And re-starting  the software, cleaning the media cache doesn´t fix it"
    Somebody answered with this:
"Sounds like a bad rendered frames. Try deleting rendered frames (under  one of menues)"
However, I tried this and it didn't help.
Once again, I will really appreciate any input you might be able to offer.
    Cheers,

  • Problem with Playback

    Hi,
I have a strange problem with Final Cut Pro 6.0.6. It has worked fine for months up to now when it suddenly will not play video in the canvas or the viewer. I have been through all the usual fixes with Prefs (I am a long term user of FCP) but no joy. I am running it on a Power PCG5 duel 2.7ghz using OSX 10.5.8.on 2x 30" displays.
I have tried all sorts of checks bringing in new DV (using same settings as always) from tape and importing media from existing scratch discs. When I play either from the viewer or the timeline the video hangs until I stop and it then jumps to the frame it is stopped at. The sound is fine. I have checked all the system and sequence settings and they are as usual. No matter what I do to the RT or playback settings I still does not work. Strangely if I send the track to say Soundtrack pro the video plays fine in the video box. I send it to Motion and it works fine. Do I need to reinstall FCP or does anyone have a fix?
    Any ideas much appreciated
    Kind regards Philip

    Thanks David,
I have tried that and both screens work fine on their own. I have now reinstalled Final Cut Pro and uploaded to Version 6.0.6. I still get the problem. The key is to know what drives the viewer and the Canvas?. I have a friend with the mirror set up and I have reset all the setting exactly to match. but this does not seem to work. I have noticed that under system settings >playback control>video quality there are 4 options including "Dynamic" however this option does not show on the RT menu on the timeline?. I have done some further tests and find that having imported a clip I know to have worked before from a scratch disc I know to be working it only shows in the viewer when wireframe+image is showing and then the sound plays but the video only updates when I pause. I then found that right clicking on the clip and opening it in Editor it works just fine.
I am running out of ideas. If anyone can assist I would be very grateful.
    Kind regards
    Philip

  • Problems with playback for Rhapsody To Go songs on Zen V P

So I have been trying to work with customer support on this issue, and it has been frustrating. I can fairly reliably cause my Zen V Plus to freeze while playing some songs from Rhapsody to go. I was wondering if anyone else either has had similar problems, or can try to reproduce mine. I have been able to reproduce using 2 different players (exchanged within 30 days of purchase), and from two different computers, so I don't think the song is corrupt. Here is my correspondence with creative, which contains enough detail to reproduce. I re-ordered for easy reading, but the content is the same:
My first email, with the problem:
I use Rhapsody to go, and I had songs stop
playing in the middle of the song. The player stops moving the seconds
count down, but the play indicator is still showing. I have to press the
play/pause button, upon which the player shows the song paused, and then
I have to press play again. This happens on a bunch of different songs,
but seems to happen on roughly the same place on a particular song. I am
running the latest firmware, and I have exchanged the player once
already and have the EXACT same problem, so this is a firmware problem,
not a hardware one. Once it starts happening, it will happen VERY
consistently on a song, I can restart the song, and it will almost
always hang again in the same spot. If I turn off the player and turn it
back on, it will play through. I have a playlist that has "Hey There
Delilah" by Plain White Ts on it, as the first song. This song always
hangs at 2:07 when it hangs. I have gotten it to hang by turning on the
player when the playlist is already loaded, and playing this song, and
restarting the song a couple of times. It seems that the songs will play
through until I start using menus or buttons, or changing the play order
or restarting the songs...then it gets in a state where it freezes on
some songs, like the above mentioned one. Once I restart the player, it
will play through, so long as I don't do too many things. I haven't
figured out the minimum necessary to reproduce every time, but it
freezes fairly often on the above song, and can be reproduced fairly
easily (on two different players). I would consider this a fairly
critical problem, in that it involves randomly having music freeze on
me, and I can't exchange the unit or send it in for repairs, since I
have tried that. Please advise, or let me know if you need more details.
    Their first reply:
    Dear Richard,
Thank you for writing in to Creative Technical Support Services, we
appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
From the description you had provided, I can see that upon playing song
that came from Rhapsody on the go, it stop in the middle of the song. As
you mentioned, the player stops moving the seconds cound down, but the
play indicator is still showing. Upon pressing the play/pause button of
the player, it pause playing and press play again, it will resume
playing. You added that this issue occured on a bunch of a songs and it
seems to happen roughly on the same place on a particular song. You also
added that you have already updated your player firmware. I can imagine
this is a frustrating experience. I apologize that you are having issue
with this product and it is causing you to not enjoy it as intended.
Initially, you were provided with some basic suggestions on how to
troubleshoot the issue that you have identified. These tips have
resolved majority of the issues with your product. You may find that
some of the information in this message is repetiti've, but it is still
    helpful/beneficial in troubleshooting the issue.
To assist you further, here are some suggestions that you can try:
. First, I would suggest you to play the songs you usually got this
issue on your computer and let us see if the issue persists.
    2. If the songs plays fine on your PC, you can try formatting your
player through its recovery mode. Please note that running a Format All
on your player will erase all of the content of your device. You may
want to back it up before completing this process if possible. To
assist you formatting your player, please refer to this link:
Formatting ZEN Micro or other Creative MP3 players

    3. After format all options, please try transferring music files again
that you got from Rhapsody on the go.
If the above resolutions did not figure out the issue, it appears that
your player will most likely need to be sent in for repair/replacement.
If you have recently purchased your product you may also try contacting
your reseller to see if you can exchange the product. If you are unable
to exchange your products a RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) will

    My next reply:
Ok, I have tried all of the above, but I can tell you it isn't that I
need to send in the unit. Please remember, I have exchanged this unit
already for another brand new unit and downloaded the songs, and the
same behavior occurred, hanging at the same time even, in spite of the
fact that the song was downloaded from rhapsody from a completely
different computer, onto a different player. I strongly believe this is
a problem with the firmware, and that someone at your company should try
to reproduce the problem. That is why I gave specific instructions on
how the problem is duplicated, so your QA department can try to
reproduce it, and solve this problem in the next firmware update.
    Their next reply:
Thank you for taking the time to reply to Creative Customer Support. We appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
In response to your email, I understand that you are experiencing some problems with your MP3 player freezing when trying to play some music from Rhapsody to Go. I know this can be frustrating and I apologize for any inconvenience and/or frustration this has caused.
Regarding your issue, it sounds like it could possibly be an issue with the music. Sometimes music files can become corrupted and they are transferred to the player it can caused it to not function properly. This can often be the cause of a player freezing while it is playing back.
In order to address this issue, I would recommend trying to transfer only music ripped from audio cd's, or try downloading music from a different source. If the problem continues with music that has been ripped from audio cd's, then that could indicate that the player itself needs to be sent in for an RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization). However, if the problem does not continue with the music from audio cd's, then the music from Rhapsody could be corrupted and it may be necessary to try redownloading it from Rhapsody; or from a totally different music provider.
In the case that it looks like the player itself needs to be sent in for an RMA, please follow the link below to get an RMA setup online:

I hope this helps to address your issue. If there is anything else we can do to assist you, please don't hesitate to contact us. We look forward to hearing from you and ensuring that this issue is fully resolved. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    My next reply:
How would it be that the music is corrupt when the player can play the music properly with no issues repeatedly It is only a problem when I start navigating the menus or moving through the playlist, and then I play these songs. Therefore, the player can properly play the music, until I put the player in an broken state by manipulating the menu choices. Then it freezes on the song. Repeatedly. At the same spot. But after I turn the player off and on again, I can play the song without any issues again. This really seems like an issue with the software. Have you tried making a play list from rhapsody to go with the song I specified, and tried to reproduce the problem If you try, I suspect with a little effort you will be able to reproduce the problem, because I have been able to with multiple zen V plus players, and different copies of the song. I don't know why you haven't contacted the technical or QA staff to try to reproduce this. I really believe it is a problem in your software. I guess I can start posting on the forum, and try to get other users to reproduce, and perhaps that will help convince you it is a real software problem (firmware).
    *sigh*
    Anyone have any thoughts

    And it continues.
    Here was there reply:
Thank you for reaching us at Creative Email Technical Support. I appreciate the opportunity to assist you. I am sorry for the trouble you
    having.
I understand that you are having trouble with the Zen V Plus player freezing up when you start navigating through the menus or moving through a playlist. I see that in the previous email you were given some suggestion and it was mentioned that it could be something in the music on the player. Yes
it could be an issue with the firmware as well and by reloading the firmware and try music that is from CDs and not Rhapsody to see if this hel
    ps.
I see you would like us to contact the technical support on this matter, we are the technical support I do emails as well as phone support and we have spoke with our advanced support group and what we have found is the biggest cause to the issue you are having is corrupt file it is not the only cause but the biggest. If after ripping music from a CD and trying the newest firmware and you are still having the same issue then we can issue an RMA so the player can be sent in and tested and replaced if needed.
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

    And my response:
Ok, so let us assume for a minute that it is, in fact, the music. There is nothing wrong with the player physically, I know this because I have the same behavior in another player (remember, I was within 30 days when we started this conversation, so I swapped at the store I bought). So if we assume that it isn't the player, and in fact, the music is somehow corrupt; isn't it still a software (firmware) problem, in that if a music file is slightly corrupt, sometimes it can play it correct, and sometimes it causes the player to freeze? Remember, I can play the song fine, over and over again. But if I exhibit certain behavior with the player (moving around in the play list, or repeating the song again by pressing rewind), it starts to freeze, and will repeatedly freeze. If the music is corrupt as you say, shouldn't the player's firmware handle that more gracefully, but skipping over that bit of song, instead of just freezing? I have had a number of other players, and I have never had this problem with the music before. They all seem to be able to handle any corruption that your player seems to freeze on. (I am not convinced the music is corrupt still, but am assuming it for this argument). Can you please advise whichever team is responsible for the firmware releases that I have a problem that is repeatable, and even if the music is corrupt, do you really want to be the only player on the market that actually freezes when trying to play it, instead of playing through like all your competitors (who will soon be getting my business if this defect isn't at least acknowledged, good grief!).

I recently Created a peroject on a mac containing a large quantity of markers and clips, when I transfered it to my home pc I recieved a notice saying that I needed a third party program for the video to play properly. When I did play the video, its frame-rate was terrible and couldn't keep up with the audio at all. Is this just a problem with the video transfered bit rate or with the actual changing of mac to pc? please help...
