Problems with PSE 8 Catalog

I have been using PSE 7 and have about 8,000 photos in the catalog. I recently upgraded to PSE 8 and really like the product except that my catalog seems to become corrupted. I am not certain exactly whether this occured when I upgraded or subsequently.
My folder view no longer shows the photos actually in the folder. My folder naming convention is date then subject, and seems as if the photos have been moved to a date two loads later. Windows still shows the photos in the correct folders. Most of tags seem to be working but some have got scrambled. I did have problems when I tried to Auto Analyzer - it ran on a core dua processor for 26 hours then errored out.
What is the best way to correct and recover my catalog?

Do you suggest building Tags to represent the folder view - this would seem to be a possible work-around if you have the discipline to keep them updated.
Using tags is no more work than carefully placing photos into folders.  With each photo, you either have to drag it into a folder or drag it to a tag (or vice versa).  With either approach, you can dag multiple photos at a time.  As Paige points out, the advantage of tags is that you can choose to have more than one tag applied to a photo, whereas a photo can live in exactly one folder at a time.
Is it possible to to create a Smart Tag to reporesent a folder.
Not sure what you mean by this.  Smart Tags are created by the Auto-Analyzer.  (I recommend not using the Auto-Analyzer, by the way -- it can crash frequently and it will attach corrupted GPS locations to photos.)
If what you want to do is convert your folder structure to a tag structure, read this:
http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ElementsOrganizer/8.0/Win/Using//WSae2ea3b149d0c3591ae939f1038 60b3d59-7e88_WIN.html
You can automatically create a keyword tag with the same name as a folder on your hard disk and attach that tag to all the managed files in that folder (managed files are those that you’ve added to your Elements Organizer catalog). Creating and attaching tags this way is useful when you’ve used descriptive folder names to organize the media files on your hard disk, and you want to quickly tag your managed media files with those same folder names.

  • Catalog backup problems with PSE 11

    Hi,
I'm having terrible problems trying to backup my catalog to an external hard drive.
My PC is running Windows 7 with 8 GB of internal memory. My external hard drive is formatted to FAT 32 and has 130GB of spare capacity. My catalog is 45GB.
I have previously backed up the the catalog without any problems but can't remember if I did this before I upgraded to PSE 11.
I initially tried doing a full backup but got an error part way through writing the 'breeze' data. Having read that the breeze data was only used for face recognition, I deleted the remaining breeze data files and tried again.
I then encountered a problem when writing some of my early .jpg files. I couldn't see any obvious problem with these but tried removing them and runnning the back up again.
This time it got a bit further but hung up on some .mpg files.
I removed all video files and tried again.
This time it got up to over 60% complete but it then hung up on some early files which had a 'description' 2002 rather than a straight date name to the file. I thought that there might be a problem with file names including ' 's ', so removed these and tried again.
I then tried running Catalog 'optimize' and 'repair' (I didn't tick 'the re-index visual similarity data').
I eventually got up to over 65% complete but couldn't get the backup to go past my 2007 files no matter what files I removed.
I then tried doing an incremental backup using a Catalog file that I had created in 2011. This backup failed with 'an error encountered while writing.....WaldoData\waldo.cache'
I now don't know what to try! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
FYI, looking at the backup Catalog files that I have previously created, it appears that only the first contains all the images from whole catalog with an equal number of .xml files.
Two others which I created (which I can't remember were full or incremental backups) only have some of the images. I'm sure that this can't be right.
I presume that for an intial backup the .xml files should run from B0000001 to Bnnnnnnn; the .jpg/.mpg/ etc from Bnnnnnnn+1 to B 2(nnnnnnn) and that when one runs an incremental back up the new .xml files are added from B2(nnnnnnn)+1 to B2(nnnnnnnn)+(mmmm) and the image files continuing for a further (mmmm). Is this correct?
Otherwise what should one be seeing?
    Regards
    Mike

Thank you for your information about my problem with PSE 11. I have since tried the programme on 2 different computers and it works fine. Seems like the problem is with my computer although my old PSE 10 works okay. I'd appreciate any ideas about what could be wrong with my computer to cause my photos to break up into various segments which don't join together particularly when I move them into 'before and after horizontal' or '......vertical' and even when zooming them. • Fragmentation problems with PSE 11

I have just installed PSE & Premier Elements 11 on Vista Ultimate. When I try to edit my photos they become fragmented and look like a jigsaw puzzle. This does not happen with PSE 10 on the same computer. Can anyone tell me why this occurs?  Could it be a fault with the software?

  • Few problems with PSE 11

    Hi everybody,
I have a problem with my PS Elements 11. I was working on trial and then decided to buy full version, however few things seems to work different than on my trial and I can't find solution.
    1) When I copy one image to another it makes transparent layer on it altho capacity is set on 100% still. On my trial image copied or cuted to another pic was looking exactly as original and after I could lower transparency by lowering capacity.
    2) When I want to use normal brush and make just one spot, or paint with one line not with a lot of points or other symbols. I thought aerograph function is the reason but it paints with it and normal the same (as many symbols)
    3) When I select part of image with square selection tool it makes a circle with it or rounded field but somehow square selected image is finally copied. It seems it finds some borders on img by itself and changes selected square to it.
I would be very glad if someone could help me to resolve those issues. I will feel free to post others also if I they will come to my mind.
    thanks!

  • Problem with field catalog after upgrade from 4.0

    Hi experts,
We have recently upgraded from CRM 4.0 to 5.2.
I am now experiencing a problem with generation of a transport request for field catalog in transaction CTFC_CRM. I can generate the field catalog without errors.
The problem is that when I want to create the transport request in our dev system a pop up appears saying "Create object directory entry". Here I have to enter a package for some of the fields in the field catalog. The special thing is that the fields are not custom fields but rather SAP standard fields (using standard data elements). For example field BZIRK.
These are SAP standard fields but they are not standard in the field catalog. In 4.0 I did not get this prompt but this has apparently changed from 5.0.
What do I do? I guess if I need to create the objects I will need to use an SAP standard package. But how do I know what package to use?
Any comments or suggestions will be highly appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Anders

  • Problem with Path Managed property in alternate zones - also we have identified problem with Product catalog in alt zones

    Hi All,
I'll start "one step back". Note we have resolved this issue but it is worth mentioning:
Yesterday we set up the product catalog. We were having a lot of inexplicable problems with it initially. After much troubleshooting, we found that it was because we were browsing the SharePoint site via the "Internet Zone" rather than the "Default
Zone" when we "Connected" our site to the product catalog. Issues experienced:
    1) "Catalog Item URL Format" displayed error "Properties <Managed Property> specified by the shared catalog could not be found in the search schema" when attempting to connect to the catalog, despite that managed property being
configured correctly. The catalog would connect despite the error, and the navigation worked fine.
    2) The search Result Source for the catalog would not return any results. Configuring the query and selecting "Advanced Mode" would show SPSiteURL:http://externalURL.domain.com. Changing SPSiteURL manually to
http://InternalURL resulted in results being returned as expected.
After much troubleshooting, we found that if were browsing SharePoint using the default zone (http://InternalURL) when we connected the Product Catalog, the result source then worked properly (internally and externally).
Ok, so now onto our current problem:
The Product Catalog appeared to be working properly (internally and externally) after figuring out that we needed to connect it from the Default Zone. However, we have found a remaining glitch, which doesn't appear to be Product-Catalog-specific. Consider
    the following scenario:
    1) We click a category in our Product Catalog, such as Electronics
    2) A list of our electronic devices are presented via the "Category" display page
    3) If we click on a specific item, a different URL is returned internally vs externally. We only get the friendly managed navigation URL when browsing via the Default zone. And of course totally different pages load based on which URL you get.
Internal (when browsing via Default zone):
    http://InternalURL/catalog/PRODUCT-CATEGORY/PRODUCT-NAME
External (when browsing via Internet zone):
    http://ExternalURL.domain.com/catalog/Lists/Products/DispForm.aspx?ID=1
We have reviewed the display template, and the "Path" managed property is simply being used to render the link. Furthermore, we have configured the Content Search web part's "Property Mappings" to show the "Path" MP, and it
displays the same (wrong) result externally.
This tells us that the Path MP is not correctly rendering "Friendly URLs" when using managed navigation.
    Any help/ideas?
    Our environment:
    SharePoint Version: 15.0.4667.1000
    Default Zone: http://InternalURL
    Internet Zone: http://ExternalURL.domain.com
We are NOT using host named site collections
We ARE crawling the Default zone URL in our content source
    Thanks,
    Tommy

    Hi,
We have now also observed the same issue with a Managed Property of type “Hyperlink/Picture”. The picture returns the wrong URL externally.
This post describes the same issue, however the poster found that setting UseAAMMapping=True doesn’t work in 2013:
    http://sharepoint.stackexchange.com/questions/104806/set-the-useaammapping-property-of-a-managedproperty-object-map-an-url-of-a-h
We checked, and our Picture MP had UseAAMMapping=False. We set it to True, did a full crawl, and see no change in behavior. Path already had UseAAMMapping=True.

  • Problem With PSE-2 and New 1.5 TB Drive

Hi all. First of all, I've been using my registered PSE-2 for several years with no problem. AMD Athalon 7750 dual core at 2.7 Ghz, 2.0 G Memory. WD 1.5 TB primary and WD 500 GB secondary drive.Win XP SP3. I recently had a drive fail and installed a new freshly formatted WD 1.5 TB as my boot drive. Fresh install of WinXP and updates. Now when I install Elements, it appears to install fine. The problem comes when I attempt to start it the first time I get "Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the scratch discs are full". Then Elements closes, thus not allowing me to do anything with the internal configuration of the program. I have tried unistalling and installing to the 500 GB drive, but still get the same error. I have increased my page file memory Does anyone know of a problem with installing Elements on a large drive or can anyone offer a possible solution to what I am seeing? Thanks in advance for suggestions...
    JohnR.

I think Barbara meant photoshop 7, which was out a little before pse2.
If you hold down the Alt+Ctrl keys just after you start pse2, a dialog
should appear allowing you to choose the scratch disk (keep holding
the keys until the dialog appears)
If you have a recovery partition on your hard drive, try choosing this for
the scratch disk and then exit pse2. Then restart pse2 and from
Preferences>Plug-ins and Scratch Disks choose your regular hard drive for the scratch disk.
Newer versions of pse, at least newer than 3 or 4 don't seem to have this problem.

  • Problems with PSE 10 when saving for the web.

I'm having problems saving for web with PSE 10. I edit in RAW, edit in PSE 10, save as Jpeg, resize and save for the web.  Results are muddled and not sharp (looks cartoonish). Also, there is no metadata when you look at the image properties.  I uninstalled the program and installed again. No change.

Are you resizing the photo before save for web?
What settings are you using in the save for web dialog for the jpeg quality?
If you compress the jpeg too much (low quality settings below 60), that can make your photos look bad.
And save for the web in pse 10 automatically strips any metadata in order to keep the file sizes smaller.
Also, the save for web in pse 10 has a bad habit of not remembering your last used settings, so it's good to verify that your actually set to jpeg instead of the default GIF setting.

  • Problems with PSE 8.0 (Mac version)

    Hi,
I have two problems regarding PSE and Adobe Customer Service.
    First things first :
    1. When I try to run successfully installed software I receive this error:
and I don't know what to do next. Im trying to run it on Leopard Snow.
    2. I bought software from shop on adobe.com and when contacted with polish Adobe division (country I'm from) I was denied any customer assistance (even when they checked that this software is legit). They claim that I can only contact with american division. Is that right? I'm pretty much sure that I have right to call to the nearest customer service and ask for help - but maybe Im wrong.
    Best regards

  • Problems with PSE 8.0

    Please Help:
PSE 8.0 has become so buggey it is bemome unusable.  If I go dirictrlly to Organizer on sartup it will work, but if I use any other program first, organizer will not open unless I reboot the computer.  I would like to reload Elements and sart from scatch, but i used the downloaded version and can't fgure out how to make this work.  I have had quit a few problems with the pse line over the years but this problem is quite vexing.  Any help or adivice would be greatly appreciated.
    Jeff

I have tried every suggestion i have read.  Sbut sti
ll the problem continues.  When ever i open another program before
opening PSE when i try to open organizer is just crashes, but when I open editor it opens right up with no problems what ever.  And this problem continued even after unloading and reloading the program from start.  I have just run out of ideas.  I am know considering Paintshop Pro Photo.

  • Problems with PSE 11 and Filter Forge

Is anyone else having problems launching Filter Forge from PSE 11?  It used to work, but now freezes after a very partial load.  FF still works with PSE 9, and yes, I have the latest version of PSE 11 installed on a 64-bit version of Win 7 Pro.

I did not use the trial version of PSE 7 but installed directly from a purchased CD.  The "registration" option under the help menu of the editor is not highlighted and there is no option to deactivate the serial number under help in either the editor or the organizer.  Therefore I must assume that Ankush is correct that there is nothing that I need to do prior to uninstalling PSE 7.
Also, am I correct to assume that since this original post was marked as a discussion and not a question, I do not need to close it in any way?
Thanks to all who have responded and offered assistance.

  • Any problems with PSE 11

  • Problems with PSE 8 & Windows Live Photo Gallery

I recently had to purchase a new laptop and it came preloaded with Windows 7. I installed PSE8 and have had no problems with photos I scanned, etc. But Windows 7 defaults import photos from my camera to Windows Live Photo Gallery. My problem is now I can't get PSE8 to import from the clipboard. It is grayed out and I can't click it. How dop I get my photos into PSE8 and then get the two programs to play right together?

Open Organizer and click File à Get Photos & Videos à From Files & Folders
Navigate to the folder used by Windows and press Ctrl+A to select all and hit open or get media.

  • Problems with PSE 5.0.2

I have been using PSE 5.0.2 on Windows 7 Home Premium for a while with not too many problems.  However, yesterday I was editing some photos and could not save them in version sets.  I had all the settings the same as before, with the option to save in the organizer and in a version set.  It will save the file (it takes very long to save now), but it doesn't automatically include it in the organizer, and there is no version set.  When I awitch back to the organizer before saving the edited file, it does not indicate that it is locked and beign edited.  It used to have a red warning saying the file was being edited.  I noticed that Windows automatically updated some files and restarted the computer the night before.  I have no idea what the updates were, but maybe that has something to do with it?
I'm not that computer literate, I just wonder if there is something I can do to fix this problem?
I was also wondering if I should just get the newest version of PSE?  If I do, will I be able to keep all my photo collections etc that I have in my current PSE 5 catalogue?  Will the new version access my current catalogue and keep everything I have set up?
    Thanks.

That's a good idea -- you'll get the new features as well as bug fixes that have accumulated since your version was released.

Yes and yes.  See this Adobe document describing how newer versions of PSE convert your old catalog to the newer version (and leave the old catalog intact):

  • How do I fix a problem with PSE 13 not being able to open my printer so I cannot print anything?

PSE 12 Trial version worked fine with my printer but now I get errors like " the saved print information is an incompatible version.  It has been set to default values."  As well as, " default printer could not be opened."  I have Windows 7.  I tried uploading the latest version of the driver for the HP Color Laser Jet CMI1312nfi MFP printer.  Help!  No sense having PSE if you cannot print!  Thanks

Try renaming the printer to something shorter. There've been problems in the past with HP printers with names that are too long for PSE.
