Problems with Quizzes in Captivate 5

I created one quiz question just to publish a course and test it for SCORM/LMS reporting
I only added 1 question but on the reporting results screen, it reports that there are 8 questions. I know this has something to do with the pool manager, but where to I set the number of questions?
Thanks,
Fiona.

Welcome to our community
I'm skeptical that it has anything remotely to do with the Pool Manager. Check the link below for a likely explanation.

    I'm having problems with quizzes in Adobe Presenter 10, upon publishing, the text just disappears and the buttons look weird, also the text on submit buttons doesn't show?

    I created a dummy test project with one slide and two quiz questions.  I uploaded to a Connect 9 server for AICC testing.
    Publishing as SCORM, running in IE8 gets the following results:

  • Problems with Scorm and Captivate

    There appears to be a major problem with Scorm compliance and Captivate 4.
    From my understanding, Scorm 1.2 requires that the Manifest include the filenames of all resource files in order to import them. It appears that when Captivate externalizes its resources (Skins, etc) it does not include them in the Manifest. This is because Captivate does not dynamically create the manifest, but rather uses template manifest to fill in variables. The file that is missing from the template is untitled_skin.swf. Below is the template and the output from my test. From the template, it does not appear that Captivate will support anything other than a single SWF and be compliant with Scorm 1.2 (1.2 Scorm Specs http://www.imsglobal.org/content/packaging/cpv1p1p2/imscp_bestv1p1p2.html)
    Template:
    <resources>
      <resource identifier="@RD_MQZ_MANIFEST_ID_RES" type="webcontent" href="@RD_MQZ_MANIFEST_HTM_NAME_HREF" adlcp:scormtype="sco">
             <file href="@RD_MQZ_MANIFEST_SWF_NAME"/>
          <file href="@RD_MQZ_MANIFEST_HTM_NAME"/>
                <file href="SCORM_support/scorm_support.htm"/>
                <file href="SCORM_support/scorm_support.js"/>
                <file href="SCORM_support/scorm_support.swf"/>
      </resource>
    Actual XML:
    <resources>
    - <resource identifier="SCO_ID1_RES" type="webcontent"href="untitled.htm"adlcp:scormtype="sco">
    <file href="untitled.swf" />
    <file href="untitled.htm" />
    <file href="SCORM_support/scorm_support.htm" />
    <file href="SCORM_support/scorm_support.js" />
    <file href="SCORM_support/scorm_support.swf" />
    Please advise..
    Thank You!

    Michael,
    SCORM packages do have a number of "must-haves", but the listing of every last resource asset is more a best practice (although a good idea).
    The content doc that you reference actually states that it is a best-practice document at the top.
    My stand has always been that in the long run you are much better off if you follow all the rules (especially as the standards evolve and build on each other) so I would love to see captivate list all the resources in the future.
    Importantly though, for any SCORM certified LMS there are two instances where resources MUST be listed.
    First, if it is the href launch file for that particular resource (i.e. <resource identifier="SCO_ID1_RES" type="webcontent" href="untitled.htm"adlcp:scormtype="sco"> in your example) then obviously it must be listed in order for LMS to serve up the next part of the course.
    The other time it must be listed is if that particular resource is actually a "dependency sub-element" of whatever sco or other resource it applies to.
    As long as you have those bases covered, and all the other rules of course (schemas definitions, etc...) it should still pass the appropriate ADL conformance test suite.
    I use both captivate 3 and 4 with a whole host of different LMS systems and have found the generated files to be quite sufficient for basic packaging needs.
    Although, I have made a few customizations based on comments I have read from Andrew Cherney and Mike Rustici (I try to read everything either one of them answers for someone on the forum).
    If you are saying that a particular LMS is doing some kind of "import validation" before it accepts and allows you to publish your content, then that is actually quite common (though usually transparent unless you hit a snag in the validation).
    Typically, the validation will consist of a shortened version of the same basic items that the ADL test suite checks for (schemas and declarations, launch files, etc..).
    That said, if because of an LMS that you need to account for, you absolutely NEED to have all the files listed in the manifest, a great tool for ensuring that is actually free.
    It is called RELOAD, and if you ever take one of the courses run by the ADL Academic Co-Lab (which I highly recommend) that is the tool they use for teaching about packaging and sequencing.
    Very useful tool for creating new packages or editing existing packages as well as adding metadata, sequencing rules and so on.
    RELOAD lets you drag and drop whole directories of resources and set their dependency requirements so you could use it to quickly add all your resources to the manifest.
    This is their website:
    http://www.reload.ac.uk/
    I can generally get by with just the files that captivate generates for scorm 1.2 , but for any heavy lifting (i.e. dynamic sequencing in scorm 2004), I always bring RELOAD into the picture.
    I hope this was helpful.  I tend to ramble on about standards sometimes...

  • Best way to achieve multiple paths with quizzes using Captivate 6?

    I’m looking for the best way to achieve multiple paths and quizzes using Captivate 6.
    Here is the scenario: The learner watches general slides 1 – 3 and then chooses between Path A, Path B, or both paths combined.  If they choose Path A then they watch the A portion only and take the A Quiz only. Same happens for Path B and for the two paths combined. The learner would only have to go one path to complete the course.
    What I’m finding is Captivate only has one Quiz results page (even if you create two separate quizzes, it merges them). I was trying to avoid having three separate projects for the same module to keep it simple. I see if I have three separate projects I could use the Multi-SCO Packager to merge them for use on my Moodle LMS. But wait, I don't have the elearning suite, so I don't have access to the Multi-SCO Packager...
    My question is: What is the best approach way to accomplish this goal? Any recommendations?
    Message was edited by: austingina

    Captivate 6 has Branch Aware quizzing.  Turn on that option in Quiz Settings and then your Quiz Results page should only show results for the branch your user visits.

  • Problems with quizzes

    Ok since the latest captivate update all my quizzes do not work anymore.
    My custom buttons are not visible anymore and any image loaded on to a question slide also disappears.
    Its not acceptable that a company like Adobe keeps making these kind of mistakes. They release a patch to fix a bug and while doing so they break other stuff.Before the patch everything worked fine. My project is online and everything works perfect. Now after getting my first App approved on iTunes I went back to the old project to change some details for the iPad version and all quizzes are now frikkn broken. This is truly unbelievable and needs to get fixed ASAP.

    Yup just made a new responsive project and made 5 random question slides. Added 5 questions to the pool and added an image to 1 question and changed the clear button to a custom image button.
    They don't show up when published.
    Dear Captivate Programmers please fix this problem so I can make my iPad app.

  • Problems with quizzing

    This is probably a really dumb question, but I'm not finding
    Captivate quizzing very intuitive.
    I'm trying to make a question slide with a diagram and 4
    blanks where users can enter labels for different bits. I got as
    far as using a fill-in-the-blanks question to create the input
    boxes, but it creates various other things too. (What's with the
    "Fill in the blank text area" which I can't seem to delete?) I
    haven't worked out any way to give intelligent feedback at all.
    I just want a very simple slide with 4 input boxes and a
    submit button. The next slide should then display the student's
    answers, whether they were correct, and the correct answers. Is
    this possible, and what is the best way of doing it?
    Many thanks!

    You can use standard TEBs (text-entry-boxes) to gather the
    users' input, and score it if his entries match the definition of a
    "correct" answer as defined by you, the developer. But really is no
    "built-in" way to capture those answers as variables, for later
    display (or other manipulation).
    But your reference to Question slides leads me to believe
    that you think you should be able to alter the make-up of the
    question-slide itself ... and it can't be done. You might want to
    make a Request for that ability as a new feature
    at
    this link
    I think if you select from the wide array of possible
    Question Slide formats (True-False, Multiple Choice, etc.) and use
    them as intended and designed, you will find the quizzing to be
    very intuitive, but if you try to make the program work as
    you want, instead of as designed, you are in for frustration. In
    any case, good luck.

  • Problems with quizzes and flash 10

    I have verified that a course I produced in Captivate 3 interacts incorrectly when played on Flash Player 10. When you have question slides the correct behavior is "click anywhere to continue" after entering an answer and receiving feedback. However when played on Flash Player 10 you must click inside the feedback box. I tried converting to Captivate 4 and this did not fix the issue. I have about 6 of 13 modules that this defect appears on. Can anyone provide any guidance as to how to find a solution to this issue? Thank you.

    Hi there
    Here are some links that may help:
    Click here to read a thread where I believe one of the Adobe Captivate team (Shameer) sheds a bit of light on the issue.
    Click here for an Article and link for uninstalling Flash Player/Plug In:
    Click here for an Article and link for installing and older version of the Flash Player/Plug In:
    Version 9 should allow things to work okay with Captivate 3.

  • Differents problems with Captivate

    Hi to everyone,
    Nowadays i'm having some problems with the Adobe Captivate 6 and i will apreciate your help. My time is over to finsih a proyect and i don'y know what to do. The problems are about these questions,
    Creating a Quiz, i need to put two questions on the same slide but i don't know how. Also these questions must be response every time, and in my project i am able to response only once. After the correct response, the question appears blocked and we can't try to do it again. Maybe the problem can be the type of quiz, because really it isn't a score quiz. But if i use a "pre-test" quiz, i don't find the option to include the feedback response in correct or wrong answer.
    About the interactive buttons, i wold like to find a only button that shows and ocult a text box. I mean that this button must show the text box with one click, and after reading must close it with another click. I'm sure that adobe captivate can do it, but i don't find the solution.
    When i organize the table of contents, that appears on the left side of the screen, with the diferent levels of titles, the software force me to create a "folder" to put into the epigraphs. For example, i create a folder with the name "title 1", inside of this folder i put the slides "1.1 Title", "1.2 Title"...etc. After that, when i want to see the slide "title 1" with a click on the button that contains the table of contents, it doesn't work like the others who are not a folder. I need that it works like a dropdown menu at the same time that it allows me to see the contests of that title in a quick way, clicking on it.
    If someone can helps me with that questions i'll be very grateful. This is my first work with captivate and it has become in a nightmare.
    Sorry for my english, it isn't as well as i would like.
    Thanks to spend your time reading that.
    Best wishes.

    Hi,
    Please find my answers next to your question --
    Creating a Quiz, i need to put two questions on the same slide but i don't know how. You would not be able to isnert two question on one question slide. Can you elaborate your requirement, why you would like to haev such a set up? You can increase the number of attempts for a single question, but once you answer that correct it would do the action set for "success".
    About the interactive buttons, i wold like to find a only button that shows and ocult a text box. I mean that this button must show the text box with one click, and after reading must close it with another click. I'm sure that adobe captivate can do it, but i don't find the solution. By text box, you want to display a static text caption or a Text Entry box? If you just want to show and hide a text caption, why don't you try roll over caption, which would easy your task and user can see the caption once they bring their mouse to roll over region.
Folders are used to structure your content, so if you want to display you slide 1.1 Title, you can rename this slide as Title 1 and uncheck all slides under this folder, this way your purpose of going to First Slide udner the Topic 1 would be solved.
    Thanks,

  • Major Problems with Captivate 5.5 and Connect Pro

    I have a bunch of quizes that have 30 random question slides. Each slide pulls from various question pools. All of these quizes where created in Capitivate 5 and converted to Captivate 5.5.
    My problem is that Captivate 5.5 is corrupting my quizes and preventing me from posting them to my Connect Pro server. If I fix the quiz to where it will post CAptivate 5.5 will eventually corrupt it again.
    When I try to publish I get a "Failed to publish your project to the Connect Pro Server. Verify your Network Connection and then retry."
    Also Connect Pro starts throwing up errors about my number of concurrent users has been exceeded. That is impossible since I have not release any training yet to anyone other than myself.
    I did not have any of these problems until I upgraded to Capitvate 5.5.
    I am about about two more errors away from abandoning Elearning as a career and going back to marketing and design. I have not seen one elearning product out there adobe or not that's not riddled with bugs. I though using Connect Pro and Captivate together would work because they are both made by Adobe.
    ANy Ideas? I at the edge.

    I just realize something. If I open a CP 5 file with quizzes save as a CP 5.5 with out making changes to the quiz it will publish with no problem. However if anything is changed on any question pool slide the project will no longer publish to Connect.
    Every question has to be changed because Captivate 5.5 messes up all of the text alignment and some of it runs off the stage area and is not visible.
    This is ridiculous. I should not have to rebuild all of my project files every time I upgrade.

  • Problem With Captivate 4 and Windows 8

    Hi,
    I've a problem with Captivate 4 on Windows 8 projects :
    The mouse is not tracked.
    I've applied the last patch for this version (11/15/2011).
    Is there another patch for this ?
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi there
    I know this will come off as sounding snarky, but please know it's honestly not intended that way,
    Windows 8?
    I never was able to make Captivate 4 run successfully on Windows 7. So I'm not the least bit surprised to hear it has issues with Windows 8!
    Personally, I'm thinking you are due for an upgrade to Captivate if you want it to work on Windows 8. But then again, I'm not even certain if Captivate 6 is Windows 8 compatible.

  • Problems with captivate 8 and windows 8

    I´m using captivate 8 and windows 8, and I am having problems with the visualization and publication of my projects. For visualization, there is a message of an error with syntax of the files ou directory, and nothing happens. For publication, I can´t see the project published in the browser. It opens only a text file, with the codes. Is there anyone thar can help me with that?

    Acrobat 8 is not certified for Win7, particularly the x64 version. If you got the installation to go, the first step is to update AA8 to at least AA8.2. The x64 with XP required at least AA8.2 and I suspect that has not changed. I would suggest updating to the latest, either from the help menu (until no more updates are available) or by downloading the updates from the adobe.com>downloads page. For the latter, download ALL updates after your current version and install them in ORDER. They are not cummulative in most cases. You only need to reboot after the final update. The updates may get you going. If not, you may simply have to upgrade to AA9 or search for what others have been able to do in your situation.

  • Adobe Captivate 5 - Problem with scoring with Quiz exported to PDF

    Hello,
    I have created several review quizzes that have been exported to pdf and uploaded to the internet. They are elementary school quizzes that are listed on a canned school web hosting site that only allows uploads in common formates such as Microsoft Word and pdf.
    I tested these pdf quizzes with no problems and from my  computers they still work fine; however some people are having problems with the scoring element. Some - not all questions are not tabulated correctly in the end review section. I have been told that the questions were answered correctly but the end review showed some questions as wrong or not answered. The quizzes are reveiw only and no reporting or LMS is used.
    Has anyone else seen this? I had a feeling that perhaps the adobe reader was at fault, but so far everyone is using reader version 9.
    One of the quizzes can be found here.. http://www.germantownschools.org/faculty/jwoger/4th_math_topic_1_quiz[1].pdf
    Tim

    Hi,
    I have since my initial post been told that certain elements of the quiz slides are also not working. Correct answers have a sound clip that plays when the "correct" option is selected.  This is not working for some users. Like I said I have no problem with the pdf quiz from any  of the computers I use and don't know why it doesn't work for others.

  • Problems with getting captivate 5.5 to report completion with Internet Explorer?

    Hi guys. I've been trying to get my head around this issue for quite a while now. We´ve created a pretty standard course for one of our clients, around 40 slides with some video and a quiz. We just want to check Complete/Incomplete measuring slide view completion. All reporting is as expected using browsers like Firefox or Chrome . But using Internet Explorer 8 or 9, the course reports Incomplete even with all slides visited. This occurs in both of the LMS-systems that I have access to. Has anyone else had similar problems with CP 5.5 and Internet Explorer, or does anyone have any suggestions on possible solutions?
    Kind regards
    /Jonas

    I'm wondering if your issue is perhaps due to IE going into Quirks Mode because of the way the standard Captivate SCORM HTM templates are coded.
    One thing IE does not like is having any comments outside the HTML tags at the top of a page.  This is something that the Adobe Captivate templates have by default.
    Take one of your published test mdoules, open up the HTM file in a text editor and remove this text at the top of the page:
    <!-- Copyright [2008] Adobe Systems Incorporated.  All rights reserved -->
    <!-- saved from url=(0013)about:internet -->
    Then try running this again to see if you get better results in your LMS.
    If that doesn't work, try using the Pipwerks modified templates for Adobe Captivate.  They are much better quality and have removed a lot of bugs that foul up some LMSs.
    There's a series of articles on his blog about the changes: http://pipwerks.com/2012/01/11/cleaning-up-adobe-captivates-scorm-publishing-template-part -1-introduction/
    You can find the links to download and install his version of the templates on this page: http://pipwerks.com/2012/01/25/cleaning-up-adobe-captivate%e2%80%99s-scorm-publishing-temp late-part-7-giving-the-revisions-a-home/
    You need to back up your old templates before changing over to Phil's new versions (there are separate templates for SCORM 1.2 and 2004) but I recommend you at least give them a try.

  • Captivate 8 Course - Problems with Launch in LMS

    I created a Captivate 8 course with a PPT with animiation. Added audio to the Captivate. So far, so good. Uploaded it to our LMS (SuccessFactors). Went to test the course in the staging environment. Course looked like it was going to launch, then the entire screen went black. Anyone run into this problem before?

    Hi, Yes we are currently experience problems with our course in which the loading icon appears for the course.
    For some of our users, if you press the play button, the course will start and for some, clicking the play button has no reaction.
    Also, for some users, it'll automatically play without a play button (this should be the setting bc we have enabled the autorun feature).
    Not sure what to do!
