Problems with Reading Word for Mac attachments

I have just 'switched' my wife from a PC to a Mac Mini. She is using Mail to send out attachments and some of the recipients are unable to read them. They are getting the message "can't start converter mswrd632". Using a similar set up with my Mac Pro I am not getting the same issues!
Googling the message I understand that this relates to a Microsoft security upgrade MS09-73 but I am not able to understand why her machine has the problem and not mine!! Both appear to be sending .doc suffixed attachments.
As the Mac champion in the household this is now 'my fault' and any guidance would be welcomed.

Are you sure that your wife is actually sending out Word documents? The error is due to a document having a ".doc" suffix but is really a text file.

On my MacBook Air late 2013 model I am having a problem with Microsoft office word for Mac where the window for the document becomes all gray and I can not see anything that I have typed or any menus for it and also windows will sometimes dissapear and I am having truble getting them back. If anyone has anyideas of what is going on or could even help me thank you.

    Glad that helped.
As time goes by (months or years), keep your eyes on how long Microsoft continues to support Office 2011 for Mac.  Eventually you should consider Office 365 or Apple's Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

  • Issues with Microsoft Word for mac closing when I try to open old or newly downloaded documents

When I download a document from my professor, or try to open an older document, my word automatically quits. If it's already closed and I try to open a document, it will show the dot at the bottom of the icon that it's loading to open but it quickly disappears and quits itself. Is anyone else experiencing this issue or know what I can do to fix it? Thanks.

  • Problems with Office 2011 for mac after upgrading to Mountain Lion

Office 2011 for mac worked fine with Lion on my MacBook Air.  I had been having some problems with my computer freezing and crashing, so the folks at the Genius Bar wiped my computer clean and installed Mountain Lion for me.
I have full backups (Time Machine) from before the wipe on my external hard drive, but I was told not to restore from the backup, that I should drag and drop files instead.  I was also told to re-install any program for which I had the disk.  I reinstalled Office 2011 via the disk.
    Two major problems followed:
    1.     I lost all my old emails (I use Mail).  Even rebuilding the library or trying to restore them from Time Machine don't get them back.
    2.     Word and Excel don't seem to recognize me anymore.  I can pull up and modify an old document or workbook, but I cannot "save" my changes.  I have to hit "save as." That's a pain, but there's a worse problem.
I have no trouble saving these "save as" versions to my desktop or to my Documents file.  But I cannot save them anywhere else — even to the folder where I found the original document.  I get a message that I don't have the necessary permissions to access or modify the folders. I'm asked to authenticate, and I do, but that doesn't seem to do anything.
I tried Get Info on the workbooks and documents, and I'm clearly granted Read and Write permission.
I've done a permissions repair via Disk Utility.  There were some things to repair, but it didn't solve my problem.
I know I can move all documents to an external hard drive and then recreate all the folders, saving all the documents and workbooks "as" but it seems a huge amount of work.  Can anybody suggest an easier route or how to get my email history?

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  'resetpassword' (without the 's) and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • Problem with Entourage 2008 for Mac

I don't know if this is the right forum, if not please direct me to where I should go. I have Entourage 2008 for Mac. I continue to have a problem with the font reverting back to Calibri when I am composing an email. I've set up in Preferences the font I want, but it doesn't seem to work. Anyone have any suggestions? Other than give up entirely on Apple and go back to a PC????? The whole Office 2008 program is horrible and whoever designed it at Apple should be fired.

  • Print Problems with Elements 9 for Mac

I cannot print borderless (randlos) on format 10 x 15 (or any other) on my Printer Canon PIXMA MP970. With Elements 8 for Windows there is no problem. I have tried any possible combinations of adjustements and have the lates printer driver installed.

10 x 15 cm is a standard European paper size but the choice ist not available in the paper size selection. The choices avaiIable seem to be only American. I have to define it as user defined (Benutzerdefiniert). I have contacted Canon but they have no solution for this problem. It seems that PSE 9 for Mac and Canon printer drivers don't like each other. A least the German versions. With PSE 8 for Windows everything works fine. There the standard European paper sizes and borderless printing can be selected with no problem. As mentioned in other topics rotating is although a problem. Lucky enough I have also a Windows system with PSE 8.

  • Problem with MS Office for Macs, can someone please help?

I am using MS Office for Macs 2011 on my new MBA, and have encountered a pretty annoying issue when I transfered all my Excel, Word & PP documents from my old Sony PC.  When I open an Excel spreadsheet for example, the computer also opens every single OTHER speadsheet.  Since I have over 30 Excel documents, this obviously becomes very annoying and time-consuming!  The same thing happens when I try to open a Word or PP document.  Is there some setting that I need to change to have only the document I actually want to open?  All the documents were created on older versions of MS Office, but I doubt this is the problem.  Can someone help please?  Thanks!

You could also try deleting the microsoft preference files, incase something has gone amiss there.
Make sure all Office application are quit fully
    Go to User/[unername]/Library/Preferences
    Look for
    com.microsoft.Excel.plist
    com.microsoft.office.plist
    com.microsoft.Word.plist
    com.microsoft.Powerpoint.plist
Outlook is there too, so if it is causing you issues, you can delete them too
Next time you open your office applications, the new prefernce files are created. Any particular preferences that you had set will of course need to be reset as they are now all new (default) again.
Another thing to check is in you System Preferences - General
Do you have the 'close windows when quitting an application' checked? if not, checking it may fix the issue.

  • Sync problems with AME CS4 for Mac

    Hi,
I've been trying to use Adobe Media Encoder CS4 to convert a 2 min video (MPEG2 Muxed, 29.97) to FLV/F4V, and the audio still does not sync to the video. I've tried in Sor. Spark, On2VP6, and H.264. I can't imagine it's a fps issue because in the Settings I always choose "same as source". Is there something else I should do that I'm not doing thus far?
For what it's worth: I'm using version 4.2.0.006.
    Thanks in advance!
    Dave

Thanks for the reply.  I am using  Photoshop 11.0.1.  I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard.  I have found both Photoshop and Dreamweaver to be pretty buggy for several versions now.  My suspicions were that they were really engineered for Windows and never really fully implemented for the Mac.  Dreamweaver crashes or hangs on me three or four times a day if I us it all day and does various annoying things like refusing to respond to the delete key after I have used it for a while.  I have pretty much stopped using it to some degree for that reason and also because there is other software that does a lot of coding things I do much more directly and simply.  Also Dreamweaver always seems to struggle to quit when I tell it to quit (that is, it takes a long time and gets hung up at places before it quits) and once it does quit, I always get a message saying that it has unexpectedly quit (even when I have told it to quit).
The problems with Photoshop  (starting with just taking a long time to load)  have escalated to the point I described today, which makes it almost unusable. I just reinstalled Snow Leopard to see if there was anything buggy in the system software.  I will report if problems go away.
Regarding both the refusal to open image files and the grayed out quit command, made me think something like you, i.e. there was some dialogue box open somewhere.  However, I couldn't find anything and I don't use two monitors.
So . . . Adobe just seems to be getting more expensive and more buggy.
Incidentally, why is it still running in Rosetta rather than natively?  Adobe now has a real Intel processor to work with.

  • Serious problem with Powerpoint 2011 for MAC

Hi, if anyone can help. We are a team of designers who work on Apple Macs, we use Powerpoint but have serious issues with the decks. When we move the deck window around the screen, it fragments the screen, leaving us unable to do anything else. Once this

  • Problems with editing Powerpoint for Mac in Office 2011

    First time posting,
I seem to have delayed functionality in editing slides.  e.g. inserting shapes/text boxes/table etc, can be viewed, but on next slide I try the same and it is not visible, but may appear 5 minutes later when editing.  Also can not see some detail on preview, but they will then print out.  Incidentally when I send a file I have been working on to a PC, I can then see the various inserts I have made with no issue.
I have Mac OSX version 10.7.5
    3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo; 4GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
and Microsfot powerpoint for Mac 2011, version 14.4.5

As Office is not an Apple product, I strongly recommend asking in the Microsoft Office:Mac forums here:

  • Trouble with MS Word for Mac 2008 file open from LaCie NAS drive after installing Mac OS X 10.9 Maverick.

Since installing Max OS X 10.9 "Maverick" when I open Word documents from my LaCie NAS drive they open as empty documents. When I copy them to my local hard drive and then open them the content is fine. Has anyone else run into this? I contacted LaCie and they said "we do not support OS X or MS Word so talk to Apple and Microsoft. I have a thread with Microsoft and here is one with Apple.
    Thanks
    James Anderson

I suspect that the issue with the EFI partition is unrelated to your Mac’s slow performance. I have had this same error message with Disk Utility. The EFI partition is related to firmware updates, and as it is not even booted when you boot from your usual boot drive, it is not relevant. (I was able to repair the EFI partition with Techtool Pro 7 , though, but then it reappeared, which makes me think it is a bug with Disk Utility.)
I’d uninstall the following items, which are frequent flyers on the list of culprits for misbehaving macs:
    Blackberry
    google keystone agent
    Chrome
Perian stopped being supported by the developer before Mountain Lion, so I doubt that it’s compatible with Mavericks.
I have the same 8,2, BTW, and it is very fast. I like Kappy's suggestion. If getting rid of those 4 items above doesn't fix the problem, then a clean install (and not reinstalling your old "utilities" or other junk) will.

  • Print problem in Microsoft word for Mac

So I try to print my file, but every time I print my file, there will be one additional page that contains the print job information (file name, time printed etc). They don't ask me whether I want to print this or not but it's just directly printed on the next page of my print job.
This is really annoying since it waste another paper and ink of course, can I disable this annoying feature?
Since I got the wrong packet of ms.word with me (I got it in French when I need English), if you can help me to solve this problem, would you mind to tell me step-by-step menu really clearly ?
So that after that I can just translate it via google translator.
    (e.g : File-open etc.)
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello,
Since this forum is for troubleshooting Apple Software Update for Windows, a software package for Windows designed to update Apple products that run on Windows, and not related to Microsoft Office, you should really consider posting issues with Office on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac products as they would be focused more toward the issue than an Apple forum and there are Microsoft appointed MVPs there to assist.

  • Multiple problems with Reader 11 on Mac

I just downloaded Adobe Reader replacing Adobe Reader 8.  This is the WORST version of Adobe Reader yet.  I have multiple problems navigating documents.
        - There is no "next page" arrow on the tool bar.  There's a "previous page" (which is totally useless on page 1) but no "next page".  Even if you go click
View->Show/Hide->Toolbar Items->Page Navigation->Next Page it doesn't work - the arrow doesn't appear on the toolbar.  None of them do - Last Page, First Page, none.  Only the "previous page" arrow appears on the tool bar.
        - Clicking View->Show/Hide->Toolbar Items->Page Navigation->Last Page brings up a sidebar for comments.  Sometimes.  Other times it does nothing.
        - Searching doesn't work.  I can search for text in the document and it won't be found, even if I can see that text on the page I'm currently looking at!!  Btw, the same search on the same document in Adobe Reader 8 works correctly.
        - In Adobe Reader 8, next to the search box, were two icons for "previous" and "next" that took you to the previous or next occurrence in the document.  To get that functionality, you have to open a separate window in Reader 11 instead of it being conveniently on the tool bar.
If anyone can tell me if Reader 10 was better and can tell me where to download it, I'd appreciate it because Reader 11 is useless.

    Hi,
Please let me know what MAC OS version you are currently using.
Have you checked the performance after updating Reader to v11.0.09.
You can download older versions of Reader from: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/mac/

  • Problems with Microsoft Office for Mac 2008

    Hi,
I replaced my old mac around two months ago so I now own a Macbook Pro with Lion. Since then, whenever I open Microsoft Word, or a previously saved document, it also opens other documents I've saved since I bought the laptop. However, this does not include the documents I managed to retrieve from my previous Mac.
Is anyone aware of a way to prevent this happening?
    Thank you

I'm sorry, but I have the same problem and neither the article indicated or using First Aid on the keychains have fixed it - problems occurred after installing Office 2008. What else can I try?
