Problems with Remote Front Panel

Hi, I've seen "How to create a LabVIEW Remote Front Panel" video of Grant H.
I've followed the steps to create a remote front panel but doesn't work. When I open the URL in Explorer, show the title, header and footer but don't show the front panel, only a image that say: "Downloading front panel 0.00% of 0 Bytes" and don't work.
My Remote Front Server in turned on and I'm using LabVIEW 2010 in Windows 7.

I am having the same issue.
Is there anything I can look up to find possible solutions?
BTW, I run the same application in a different machine and it works just fine. I just can't seem to find where I should be looking...

  • Problem with Append Front Panel Image To Report.vi

I'm using LV 7.0 with the MicroSoft Report Generation toolkit installed. Under the Report Generation palette there exists an Append Front Panel Image To Report vi. Also on the same palette there is an Easy Print VI Panel or Documentation.vi which uses another Append Front Panel Image To Report vi located under the VI Documentation subpalette. Here is the problem; I have serval vi's that use Append Front Panel Image To Report.vi from the Report Generation palette and I have a couple of vi's that use the Easy Print VI Panel or Documentation.vi which is linked to the Append Front Panel Image To Report.vi located under the VI Documentation subpalette. Clear as mud!
This creates a conflict of intrest. In a nut shell th
ere are two vi's with the same name in different locations doing different things. I have a program with subvi's that need to call each respective Append Front Panel Image To Report.vi and that just is not working.
Is this a known issue with LV7.0 that has already been addressed and/or resloved?
    Thanks.

    ATC Herman,
Based on the picture you posted and what you are describing, it looks like you might have an incomplete install. What version of the toolkit do you have? Was it first installed on an earlier version of LabVIEW, or did you install it first on 7.0? Your VI Documentation Palette appears the same as if you hadnt installed the toolkit. Ive attached a screenshot of what it should look like. The VI in question is a polymorphic VI, which may be causing some of the confusion. If you right-click on it and select Open Polymorphic VI, it will show you what options you have, depending on the input. I opened both test and test1, and they appeared the same for me. I was able to have them both on the block diagram. The path to bo
th of them was C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.0\vi.lib\printing\ReportDocExtensions.llb\Append Front Panel Image to Report.vi. The .llb ReportDocExtensions has the polymorphic VI, as well as copies of each of the possible instantiations. Make sure you have these VIs in the .llb in that directory.
There is a KB on having the toolkit on multiple versions of LabVIEW and what files you need. Make sure you have all the files listed.
Please let me know if you are able to get to the bottom of the issue with the above information.
Thanks, and have a happy day!

  • LV2011 problem with several front panels

    Hello,
There is a bug in my software and I don't know it is common to every one or not. This not to be worry, I will notify you anyway. When I open only one front panel and one block diagram which having a program to communicate with a serial device. In this case, if I choose the VISA resource name, it obviously takes some time to popup the USB and after it show the port and front panel will stay in front you until you choose the device. Here, every thing is fine but when I open several front panels and working on only with serial program front panel to choose the serial device in VISA resource name. Then after some time, it took me to another front panel. I have seen this problem several times in past two months. More, even when I am decorating the front panel and front panel took some time after pushing some controls and switched another front panel.
Is this bug? Or I common for every one.
    Using labVIEW 2011.

I am certainly using labVIEW from two months. So, I did not use MAX in my past time. I only used one time to check my USB 6008 device but this is off topic here. I will tell you down here.
Suppose, If I open multiple VI's and I am only working with one VI that can communicate with my SERIAL device and the rest of the VI's(Block diagram and front panel) are rested. This case, if I click the drop downlist of "VISA resource name" of SERIAL VI, then it took some time(200ms or 100 ms, just it is a guess) to populate and it is switched to another front panel which were opened and rested before. Again, I need to come to my serial front panel again to select the COM port. This is one case.
If don't have any other VI's not opened than this serial Vi. Then it stays on the same front panel.
Is this bug came with labVIEW or  is it common?

  • Multiple remote front panels?

I have two separate applications running with remote front panels from this KB:
How can I use Remote Front Panels with Executables?
I can not get the two to run at the same time.  I was then shown this:
How can I run Two or more Executable with remote front panels?
This seems to be a little old (Version 8).  I am running 2012.
Has anyone gotten this to work?  How do you set up the web server to listen on more than 1 port?  How do you then direct that port to a particular app?

Thank you for the solution Todd. I was having the exact same problem.

  • Remote Front Panel Problem

    Hi
I am using a TAB control in a VI that is published as Remote Frontpanel.
When changing TAB the controls are often grayed out in the browser even when they are not in the running LabVIEW VI !
A Combo box may also contain the apps default values instead of the values from the running VI !
Any hints to solve this ?
I have login/logout in my application, and i need to auto logout when the last Remote Front Panel User disconnects.
How do I detect that there is no listeners/clients ?
The "connection manager.vi" is password protected, so i can't get any hints from there !
    Best Regards
    Teddy

I see thank you. Very funny because i thought i had to do something with duplicating the real time target.
So regarding the above problem, is there any way to be connected remotely to the target and when the link is broken to reconnect without affecting the operation of the VI running?
For example, lets assume we connect to a remote front panel which has a simple VI with just a 1 second period timed loop running and for each iteration of the loop i monitor and i save the index of the loop. When i connect to the VI i request control and i click run. The VI starts running. After one minute, at loop iteration 60 the link between the host and the target breaks. The VI should continue running.
After 1 minute of broken link the network is again available.
What can i do to re-establish connection without affecting the VI operation and continue monitoring the VI. If reconnecting after 1 minute i will be expecting to see the loop iteration to be 120 and keep running. Is there any way to do this?

  • Remote front panel reconnection problem

    Hello,
I have created a real time application build for myRIO and i can succesfully run it as startup. After MyRIO reboots, through the Project Window i select Operate/Connect to Remote Panel. I enter the local network IP address 192.168.0.101 and port 8000 and the Front Panel of the Startup VI opens. I run it and everything is running as expected.
This setup is installed on a UAV and acquires data from scientific instruments all data is writen on a USB flash drive on myRIO
It is expected that sometimes the local network link will break during the flight. To simulate this i unplugged myRIO from the ethernet cable will the Data is saved.
I noticed the following strange things:
    1. At time X  i connect to the remote panel and i start the DAQ which acquires data
    2. At time X+10 minutes i unplug the ethernet cable which connects myrio to the local network
    3. At time X+20 minutes i poweroff myRIO
I was expecting that after the connection was broken the VI would have kept acquiring the Data until myRIO powers off.
Instead i noticed that myrio acquires data for only 1 more minute after the ethernet cable is unplugged.
It is very important that after the UAV takes off whatever happens to the network connection the VI keeps acquiring data for as long myrio is powered on.
I also tried the web publishing tool but i could not connect using a browser. It seems that the web server was not running properly. I also noticed that the html file was not located in the target destination folder. I tried to manually copy it using a map networked drive but the file could not be copied.
I will appreciate any help on the above issues.
    Thank you,
    Christos

  • Able to interact with a cRIO remote front panel from one computer but not another

I have a cRIO application that publishes a remote front panel for monitoring and control of the application. From one PC (Win7 & firefox) I can see, interact and control the cRIO through the published remote front panel. From a second PC, also Win7, I can see and monitor the cRIO's state, but the remote panel that is opened does not allow for any interaction and this is true whether I'm using IE, FF or Chrome as the browser. When either PC is connected to the cRIO, it is via a dedicated Ethernet link and only the cRIO and the one PC are on that network. For this two-device private network, the PC is always at address 192.168.1.1 while the cRIO always uses 192.168.84.199 (port 8000).
The firewall rules on both PCs are setup to allow all incoming and outgoing programs/ports/protocols to be used between these two IP addresses.
Both PC's have up-to-date LabVIEW development systems installed on them (which more or less guarantees they have the minimum require LV runtime needed to see and use a remote front panel).
What might be different on the PC that view but cannot interact with the remote panel?

As far as I am aware - only one viewer of the remote front panel can control the panel at any time - the rest can only view.
As I tried to say in my original post, there was only one host physically connected to the private network at any given time (by virtue of the fact that the one Ethernet cable connection to the private network was being moved back & forth between the two hosts) so there was no way both hosts could be trying to control the cRIO at the same time. I even went so far at one point of restarting the cRIO while it was connected to the problem host to see if would render it functional, but it did not.
But I did not know that it was possible to do what you suggested, much less that there was a right-click context menu associated with a remote panel, so I tried it and it worked!    Thank you!

  • How can i access remote front panel in RT with LabVIEW run time engine in client PC

    Hi to all,
I have developed the RT application with cRIO 9075 integrated chassis. And i have access its remote front panel in client PC. Now i want to access the remote panel in the client PC without having LabVIEW runtime engine. If i connect the remote panel with that client, it shows only the vi border. i doesn't downloads the  front panel.
How Can i access its remote front panel without LabVIEW runtime engine in the client PC?

You cannot view a remote front panel without the LabVIEW runtime - the LabVIEW runtime is what makes the remote front panel possible.  What you will want to do instead is likely create a Web Service that you can access from a remote PC without requiring the LabVIEW runtime.  However, this will require you to develop a web-based HTML or similar UI to interact with the VIs running on your system - NI hasn't yet created a way to export a LabVIEW front panel as an HTML'ish page.

  • Remote Front Panel Problems and Best Practices

    All,
    Problems
I'm currently attempting to host a Remote Front Panel from a cRIO 9073. The intent of the front panel is to control and configure the services running on the cRIO. Currently I've been experiencing quite a few problems getting this to operate smoothly.
These are the problems I'm currently experiencing.
    * Front panel takes a very long time to load (~45 Seconds).
    * On close the front panel may reset the cRIO.
    * Front panel may cause excessive CPU usage.
    * Plugin has problems in Firefox.
I'm fairly sure that I've installed all of the Latest NI software (I'm using LV 2009f2)
I currently cannot post the code as it's proprietary.
Currently the front panel consists of two timed loops one running at 500ms intervals and the other running at 1000ms intervals. The GUI is basically a tab control and on the heaviest tab contains about 15 buttons.
    Questions
Is it not possible to use event structures in embedded LabVIEW? So far I've had to code my own event loop to handle all the events I wish to process on the remote front panel, and I feel this might be causing a problem.
Is the sort of functionality I'm trying to achieve acceptable in Web Front Panels?
It seems that the reason it takes very long for the VIs to load is that the VI Front Panel Server must fire up. Is there a way to make this or whatever the component is that handles it fire ahead of time?
Thanks for your time, I look forward to discussing this.
    Regards,
    Ken

    Hi Ken,
Is this a remote front panel for a real-time VI?  Is it built into an executable?  If this is a RT VI, you cannot use event structures.  More details are available in this KB:
Can I Use the Event Structure in LabVIEW RT?
I assume you have seen this?
How Can I View Remote LabVIEW Real-Time Front Panels in a Web Browser?
Are you still having the cRio reset issue and CPU usage increase?

  • Remote front panel with labview 8.6 executable

I am trying to create a remote front panel of my application, built in an executable using Labview 8.6. I want to run that application on a target machine (not the one used for developing the project) and view and control the front panel of the VI from a web browser on another computer.
    I have followed these steps:
How can I use remote front panels with Labview Executables?
But when I finally open the web browser and navigate to the URL I obtain that the page cannot be found.
I have my Labview project created and I have built a web page using Web publishing tool. I have saved it in my Labview 8.6/www directory and added it to the project. I have built my executable including HTML file and copied all the obtained folders to the target PC.
Then, I have modified the .ini file like in the step 7, but when I arrive to the step 8 I don't know what to do. Which  niwebserver.conf should I modify? The one localized at Labview 8.6 directory of the target machine? Or the one that is created in the directory where I have copied the executable when I run the executable?
In the DocumentRoot tag  I have to replace the default Labview/www with the location of my HTML file. Should I use quotation marks or no?
Have you got any ideas of what is happening?
    Thanks!

Ok, but when I create the executable, in the folder where the application.exe and .ini are there isn't a file called niwebserver.conf. When I run the application a file with this name appear in the directory (the one I include), but it hasn't the section Directives that apply to the default server as in the manual.
What I have done is to copy the niwebserver.conf file ubicated in the Labview 8.6 of the target machine in the same directory of the executable but it doesn´t work...

  • Configuring Remote Front Panels on a Real-Time Target, smart camera, but there is no image in the web page.

I do see the web page, but the image  itself is not loading.i know a problem is with the installation of the LabVIEW ActiveX plug-in or the IMAQ ActiveX plug-in.  The LabVIEW ActiveX plug-in is required for ALL remote front panel viewing, and the IMAQ ActiveX plug-in is needed for VIs that use the Image Display. how can i do ?where can i get the the IMAQ ActiveX plug-in. help me!

Got it working, after much experimentation.  Seems to require installing exactly the right combination of items on the RT target, as some items (web services? web configuration? the "application web server"?) apparently run a separate web server - or instance of the web server - on port 80, which prevents remote front panels from being served on that port.

  • Error accessing Remote Front Panel on RT Target after upgrade to LV2011

I'm upgrading a real-time application (target is a desktop PC running the LabVIEW real-time) from LabVIEW 2009 to 2011.  Under 2009, it was possible the view the main VI remotely by browsing to a static HTML page that embedded the front panel.  After upgrading to LabVIEW 2011, instead of the front panel image I get an error saying "Server does not support Remote Panels."  I have already gone through the list of possible causes from "Server Does Not Support Remote Panels" Error When Connecting to Remote Front Panel, and none of these resolved the problem.  I am using the standard LabVIEW web server, there is a direct ethernet cable connecting my computer with the real-time system, and I have recreated the web page to reference the correct plug-in version.  I reformatted the RT system and then did a clean install of the components from LabVIEW 2011 (using the Add/Remove Software feature in Measurement and Automation Explorer).  I also created a new test project with a new simple VI; I was able to access that VI remotely on port 8000, but not on the default port 80 (which used to work under LabVIEW 2009).  What changed in the web server between LabVIEW 2009 and 2011?  Can I use the standard HTTP port 80 to serve a static page with an embedded VI, or does this now only work on other ports (and if so, why)?  Will I need to recreate my entire project in LabVIEW 2011 in order to get this working at all?

Got it working, after much experimentation.  Seems to require installing exactly the right combination of items on the RT target, as some items (web services? web configuration? the "application web server"?) apparently run a separate web server - or instance of the web server - on port 80, which prevents remote front panels from being served on that port.

  • Why does refreshing my web browser page increment the number of users connected to my Remote Front Panel?

    Hi,
I'm using LabVIEW 2010 and a cRIO-9118 to broadcast my RT Front Panel on the web with a Web Server.
I successfully configured the web server to be able to control my Front Panel remotely. However, I have an issue with "Refreshing" the browser.
When I press "Enter" to search the adress of the web server, the number of users connected seems to increment by one and then tells me that "Too many users are connected to the front panel". Once this has been done, the only way to "unlock" the web server is to reboot the cRIO.
Is there any solution to avoid this behavior?
My current web browser is Internet Explorer 8.
    Thank you

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Mathieu,
Unfortunately, there currently isn't a very good solution for the problem you are facing. It seems like this is a known issue that R&D is working on. It so happens that in addition to simply refreshing, this issue also occurs if you try to access the Remote Front Panel using a second tab in a tabbed browser. One "fix" would be to invest in a higher count Remote Front Panel license. If that's not feasible, then the current recommendation would be to avoid connecting to the Remote Front Panel from a second tab or refreshing the view in your browser. Once you exceed the number of connections to the Remote Front Panel, you will have to restart the RT controller -- there isn't a way to change this default behavior. You can track any fixes by R&D by keeping note of the CAR (corrective action request) ID for this issue, which is #202702.

the remote panel connection manager says that they can find it certainly i've save and open it with the same name and folder where i save the project.
can youm tell me why  i can't do that?
tanx before, sorry for bad english

What do you do differently the second time from the first? Are you opening it up differently? Are you using an executable? It doesn't look like it from your description but if you are there is a link below that may help. do you have a firewall up or a proxy server? The second link may help if the problems are being caused by one of these.

  • Remote front panel in tablet

    Hi all
I am trying to establish a remote front panel connection on to a windows 8 32 bit OS on 64 bit atom processor tablet from an exe deployed on myRIO. I had verified the remote front panel connectivity on the development PC (windows 8 64 bit OS on i7 processor), installed LV RT engine 2013 and the 32 bit drivers on the tablet. The problem is that the remote front panel connection gets stuck after some time. I am connecting the target to a B type USB which is connected to an OTG cable and then to tablet microUSB port.
    1. I reduced the data rate to some 200 samples per second (displaying 20 values on a graph per 0.1 second), still the problem persists
    2. The remote panel works pretty well when connected to development PC and to another PC (windows 8, 64 bit OS with LV RT 2013 installed) via USB, it is just the tablet that is losing the connection after a while (it says remote panel connection refused by specified server)
    3. I connected target to a local network, enabled WiFi on the tablet and got remote panel working perfectly. It is just the physical USB connection to the tablet via OTG cable that is creating the problem after sometime
I came to the conclusion that the problem could be with the 32 bit drivers (the display gets stuck only after sometime though), OTG cable (i tried another one too) or that the tablet is running on 32 bit OS. I even installed LV 2013 on the tablet, developed a test exe and tried getting remote front panel, still the same problem persists. Any inputs as to what the problem might be?
    Thanks
    Arya

If the WIFI works, I would just use it. Alternately, I would look into a better cable. With cut-rate calbles the first place thay start trying to save money is with the connectors.
