Problems with restarting, connecting wirelessly Mac OS 10.4.8

I have restored the system that came with my iMac, which is 10.4.7
My iMac now restarts, based on what I arrive at the conclusion that the problem was with 10.4.8 update that I installed before the problem began.
I also hoped that 10.4.8 update was causing all the wireless connectivity problems I had. However:
- after I installed 10.4.8 update I began experiencing slow connections and my iMac would not resume WiFi after sleep mode until after I restarted the computer;
- now that I returned back to 10.4.7 where everything was working perfctly, I CANNOT CONNECT TO MY WIRELESS ROUTER AT ALL!!!!!
The problem:
I have my third-party wireless router in the list of available networks (thanks God!), however, when I choose to connect to this network and introduce my WEP password, the system says: "There was an error connecting to [name of the network].... network". That's it! (very informative, isn't it?!)
I use the same f*ing password to connect to the same router from my PC, which is according to Steve is not the best computer in the world, or at least not the one he likes - well, you know Steve, THERE IS NO PROBLEM connecting from PC and I have spent already the whole day trying to understand what the problem is with the best in the world iMac or Mac OS X or whatever....
Okay, I know Steve will not read this. So if anyone knows anything - please let me know. Thanks in advance.
