Problems with Restore

I did a backup on my iPhone 4S prior to trying to updated to iOS6. I have it setu[ to backup to the cloud.
I tried to update to iOS6 but it failed. itunes showed the option to restore from my backup which I attempted to do, but it asks for a password and I forgot it.
How can I go about getting my password so I can do the retore and then try to update to iOS6 ?
Any advise would be appreciated

Update... I can log into iCloud & iTunes etc... It's only when I select a restore point for my iPhone  that it prompts me for password to unlock iPhone backup. As it stands I have no phone to call Apple...
I'm hoping for suggestions...Please !!!

I have found a solution to the problem with restoring Your Ipod touch and iphones on a Mac, When it stops restoring the device at the very end.
To fix this problem, boot using your OS disk and verify your disk and permissions and then repair them. Restart your computer and see if it fixes your problems.

  • Has anyone been experiencing problems with "Restore Purchases" after upgrading to iOS 7?

I've been having problems with restoring purchases on a majority of apps that I have previously downloaded and purchased IAPs. I've only successfully restored purchases on one app (Warhammer Quest); but other apps, such as "Legendary Heroes" (On which I spent $20 to unlock everything), no longer restore my purchases. Instead the "Restore Purchases" button prompts me to buy one "Remove ads" purchase. Some apps, such as Trinity Interactive's Tiny Legend Monster Crashers and Call of Mini Zombies do not have a "Restore Purchases" button at all. Has anyone else been having this problem? And even so, is this an issue with iOS 7 or just an incompatibility between the apps themselves and iOS 7? I've put way too much money into a bunch of these apps to have to repurchase everything all over again.

I would recommend using the SEARCH function of the forums and locating the many others posts that have already discussed this issue.

  • Problem with restoring my HDD from .dmg image

    Hello,
I encountered a problem with boot camp which couln't make a new partition for windows, because it couldn't move some files. It was a problem of defragmentation which i found surprisingly hard to solve. I'm a new mac user, and i was unable to find any defragmentation utility. Even the boot camp ask me to make and image of HDD, reformat it, and then restore from image. It was quite easy when i was reading it but after all i end up with new instalation of MacOS X without access to my files stored on HDD image.
    Here's what i did:
    1. I made images of HDD and and partition. To make images smaller i previously copied all of my multimedia files to PC. Images were created as read only, not compressed. They were stored on PC
    2. I have used disc utility after booting up from MacOS X CD, and made a new partition. It's name is the same as the one i made image from.
    3. Now it's the point when i should restore my partition from image but i encountered some problems. I copied images to mac again and was trying to restore partition from it but disc utility said it doesn't have any checksums or something like that. I read that it was a problem of verifying image with disc utility (the first button on the upper left side called verify.) It have checked image and made checksums but i still was unable to restore partition from it.
Now, i know it might be silly to try restore HD from image on the same HD but shouldn't it shows some oder errors? After booting up from CD i can't connect to PC to browse it's resources and writing address (http://pcname/folder/partition.dmg) in source line in restore tab does not do anything.
Is the only solution to connect a firewire hard drive to my mac with images on it? Or it is a problem with my images (making image process didn't showed any errors with HDD image and partition image).
Moreover i cant access those images on my MBP cos it's says that there are no mountable file system. Does it means that this image is bad?
Please help, I'm running out of options as i don't have firewire HDD and i'm really annoyed cos things like defragmentation are so easy on Windows and i don't get it why it's must be so complicated on Mac
    Sincerely
    PS sorry for my english

  • Problem with restoring Nokia N8

Yesterday I backed up my messages, pictures and videos because I had a problem with Nokia Maps. I did a Hard Reset and returned to install and configure everything. When I restore my files from the backup are restored only photos and videos but not the messages. I need to restore the messages too. What happens?
    Thanks for your time.
    Marcos,
    Argentina
    Nokia N8-00 user

Having Anna I have Reset the phone (*#7370#), reinstalled Anna updates - everything went nicely. After this I restored from a previously saved Backup the Contacts, Documents, etc. - all without Applications and settings, but also Messages.
Unfortunately Messages has not been restored by Nokia Suite (ver.3.2.100)!!! - Not a single message.
I tryied with PC Suite (ver.7.1.62.1) - most of the messages coud be restored, some unfortunately not (here I used the same backup file done by Nokia Suite, I do not have another as I have not backuped with PC Suite).
With NBU Explorer I see all the messages in the Nokia Suite backup file as saved correctly. So I can export all messages with their corresponding folders to PC, with files extensions of *.VMG.
I could restore the messages by:
    - Exporting them with NBU Explorer with their corresponding folders to PC, with files extensions of *.VMG.
    - Having prepared the folders in My N8 Message box I imported them folder after folder into PC Suite (PC Suite - Messages - Import into an empty PC Suite message folder) - this means they are already on the N8 (PC Suite synchs to N8), just in an wrong folder (PC Suite does not correctly synch with N8)
    - folder after folder I move the messages from the saved folder (uncorresct folder) to the corresponding folder.
    So I managed!
    BUT!
    - Apparantly Nokia Suite does NOT do its job in restoring the backuped Messages
    (appart from not being able to synchronise correctly as PC Suite with Outlook - Contacts and Calendar);

I don't do Windoze, but that looks like you've backed-up a virtual machine via Time Machine, and there's a problem with it.
First question: why are you restoring, and why are you using +MIgration Assistant?+
If you want to restore everything from your backups, do a full system restore, per #14 in [Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/FAQ.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Most folks exclude those from Time Machine, and back them up separately.
Your best bet is to skip the contents of the folder they're in while running +MIgration Assistant+, then restore everything else in that folder selectively, via the "Star Wars" display. You may or may not be able to restore the vm file(s), but at least you should be able to get everything else that way.

  • Problem with restoring from backup (iPhone 3gs)

My iPhone was having problems with syncing music from iTunes so I restored it to factory settings, then attempted to restore from one of my previous backups; all seemed to be going fine, the Restore in Progress screen came up on my iPhone, followed by the Apple logo and beneath it a loading bar. About 15 hours later and there's been no movement in the loading bar, it's still empty, so I'm assuming it must be frozen. I was wondering if this was a common problem and if there's any known solution to it? Cheers.

If you are using Windows, switching Anti-virus, firewall etc. might help.

  • Problems with Restore, PLEASE HELP

Well, I had an old old old ipod touch from Christmas 2007. Around that time, I dated a guy who wanted to try to jailbreak said iPod and basically messed it up to the point it wouldn't update anymore. So, with that and a broken home button, I got it replaced. It just came in the mail friday, and I've been having so many problems with the stupid thing I haven't even gotten to play with the new features I've been deprived of.
First thing's first. When I first got it, I could put music on it and listen to it, but it wouldn't connect to wifi. So after a series of bad events (iTunes wouldn't connect to the internet, old version of iTunes, etc) I came to the conclusion that I should try to restore my iPod and see if that would help. Yeah. Bad idea. I got multiple error codes (6, 9, 1601, 1604, 2002) on every attempt. Tried two different computers, same conclusion. So I called Mr. Apple Expert and asked what I should do. He says call Best Buy and tell them they gave you a lemon (basically). So, as a last resort, I tried a different USB cable (I'm stubborn and thought that might be the problem), and I got somewhere. Not all the way.
I'm stuck with a "Verifying iPod Restore" window on iTunes. It appears to be about 3/4 restored when you look at the iTouch screen. I am so incredibly frustrated now, and decided I might as well give this forum a try. I haven't been able to enjoy my iPod touch in forever (it was Valentine's Day of 2008 when my [now ex] boyfriend messed up a jailbreak) and just hoped someone could help.

Well, I'm under a three year warranty with Best Buy, and since Mother and Father do not wish to spend anymore money, I'm just going to have to raise some **** when I call and see if the next one I get works.
Honestly. I had a bad feeling about this iPod the moment I got it 3 days before Best Buy told me I would. I knew that too good to be true! I mean, the touch screen was kind of faulty when I was typing on it before it freaked out. The backspace wouldn't work. I believe you're right, I don't even think this is an iPod touch!
But thank you sooo much for dealing with my n00b-ish-ness and trying to help me! I appreciate it.

  • [HELP] Problem with restore and recovery to new host

    Hi, guys!
I have been trying for two days, but still cannot get it to work.
I have taken a full hot(online) backup with archive logs as well as the control file and SPFILE, and then copied the backup to the new host with the same directory structure and settings. Finally, I have tried to restore & recover the database on the new host but failed during the restore process.
Both the original host and the new host have the same Oracle installed down to the patch level. I couldn't figure out the proper solution to this problem base on my limited knowledge about Oracle DB.
Could anyone help me out here? Any advice would be appreciated!

Would it be something to do with the folder permissions?

  • Problem with restore.I have a 2 gen running firmware version 4.2.1

    Hello there !
Hopefully some smart persons here will be able to help me. First it has been awhile since i used my itune store because i didnt needed to and did a format of my computer after the last time i used it..so i had to upload my library etc and start from scratch. I downloaded a couple new games, everything was working fine..then when it came the time to sync and put these games on my ipod touch 2 gen the installation failed. I retried again and it keeps failing again and again so i choose to do a restore on it and expecting the problems would be solved. Problem wasnt not solved at all and it said an error (6) occured and i have the image on my ipod of the white cord trying to connect to itune store.
Restore doesnt work at all and it seems like my ipod is totally useless as i cant use it anymore. I did the diagnostic..it said no ipod were found. I also did the check up thing for the technician so ill paste it here maybe it will give some clues..
I have this error now as well... No iPod, iPhone, or iPad found. It also said secure link to itune store failed..not sure if these are all related to the same problems or all different at all..im clueless and need a generous soul to help me out.
Thank you tons for the help !
@Edit : Even with my other 2gen ipod i cant install these new games,it keeps failing as well..but at leasnt i havent done Restore on it yet and i fear to do it for reason you guys can guess.

  • Having problems with restoring my iphone 4 to iphone 4s

Hi everyone, I have been having a nightmare with backup and restoring my from my iphone 4 to iphone 4s since Friday night.
Naturally, I got home with my new Iphone 4s and wanted to get it up and running with my current contacts, sms and notes (and apss, etc) off my iphone 4.
I upgraded itunes to 10.5 plugged in my iphone 4 and did a backup and sync to my PC.
Once this completed, I plugged in my iphone 4s and did a restore from a previous backup and selected the iphone 4 recent backup.
This went through the usual process for 30 mins to an hour and then errored out, saying that it cannot complete the restore because....wait for it...the backup maybe corrupt or I am restoring to an incompatible device, something along those lines.  I have tried various things and various backups and restoring the iphone back to factory settings.  I think on the most recent back up, I got the backup error (-50) which I have naturally gone through all the Apple forums and looked at the resolves for that but it says it is USB and timeout related, but it is not that as I have manged to restore from a backup from April this year and that works perfect.
I know what you are thinking, why not plug your iphone 4 back in and do another back up and then try and do a restore again to the iphone 4s.  I would if I could but icloud has turned out to be my enemy in this case.  When I was at work and I got my new iphone 4s, I set it up at work as a new phone to see how Siri works and the icloud.  Obviously, it asks you to sign in with an apple account before you can go any further into using the phone for the first time. I did this and eventually got the phone on to look at the features.  The phone had the new ios5 and I played around with it for a bit.  Now when I got home and did the backup of the iphone 4, I connect and disconnect different phones and itunes likes to sync your phone as soon as I plug it in.  Now with the combination of icloud backing up the new iphone 4s which is blank and then the new itunes has icloud funtionality, when I replugged the iphone 4 in, it synced with icloud and gave me the new iphone 4s settings which are blank!!!!  I then had a blank iphone 4 and a blank iphone 4s, by blank I mean no contacts, sms, notes, etc and everytime I try to do a restore it give me the above errors.
I have since set itunes to back up to the PC, turned off icloud and played around with different restores,  It is now Sunday and I have not got my phone back to its more recent settings (Been on it for 3 days!!)
I was wondering if anyone knows what file my contacts, sms, notes is stored in and can I import just that file into my new iphone?  As for apps, music, etc, I can always sync them up afterwards using itunes.  My main concern is my contacts, sms and notes; email accounts would be useful to restore aswell as I had about 8-10 email accounts in there too (work, personal, domains I own, in case you're wondering).
I have worked in IT for many years and have put all my skills to the test but nothing gets my recent files back.  Is there anyone who knows a bit about the programming side of iphone backup files, although any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
For now I will probably revert back to an April backup until someone can help.
    Many thank in advance.

unfortunately there are tons of people with this issue but Apple has not given any answers for us to fix this issue yet. I wish they would allocate more people to solving these problems when they roll out new versions of itunes along with new hardware.

  • Problems with restore after corruption

while using my third generation ipod as a disk to transfer pictures from a mac to my pc it froze. i waited for it to turn off, and when i turned it back on (still connected) it gave me the folder with an exclamation point next to it. i was bummed because i just lost my external hard drive two weeks ago and this was the only place a lot of my music remained since my lap top doesnt have much in the way of storage capacity. but nevertheless, i tried to restore it using the latest itunes.
now, though, at the end of restoration my ipod simply gives the "ok to disconnect" screen with the big check on it, but wont turn off. it showed the screen with the green bar on my computer, but it never went through the restore screen on the ipod and never restarted. it still charges, but it now only reads "disk mode" on top, but wont open through itunes or through my computer. when i disconnect it and reconnect it itunes still gives me the "you may need to restore" screen. as of now, ive lost 20g of music and my ipod no longer turns on past the apple logo. i've tried it on three different, working computers and i get the same result.
this is the latest in many problems ive had with this third generation over the last couple years and my frustration is building to the point of wanting to just throw it into the ocean, but i dont have money for a new one. does anyone have any ideas?

    Hello,
If a sad iPod icon or an exclamation point and folder icon appears on your iPod’s screen, or with sounds of clicking or HD whirring, it is usually the sign of a hard drive problem and you have the power to do something about it now. Your silver bullet of resolving your iPod issue – is to restore your iPod to factory settings.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
If you're having trouble, try these steps at different levels one at a time until the issue is resolved. These steps will often whip your iPod back into shape.
Make sure you do all the following “TRYs”
    A. Try to wait 30 minutes while iPod is charging.
    B. Try another FireWire or USB through Dock Connector cable.
    C. Try another FireWire or USB port on your computer .
    D. Try to disconnect all devices from your computer's FireWire and USB ports.
    E. Try to download and install the latest version of iPod software and iTunes
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
    F. Try these five steps (known as the five Rs) and it would conquer most iPod issues.

    G. Try to put the iPod into Disk Mode if it fails to appear on the desktop
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651
If none of these steps address the issue, you may need to go to Intermediate level listed below in logical order. Check from the top of the lists to see if that is what keeping iPod from appearing on your computer in order for doing the Restore.
    Intermediate Level
    A. Try to connect your iPod with another computer with the iPod updater pre-installed.
    B. Still can’t see your iPod, put it in Disk Mode and connect with a computer, instead of doing a Restore on iPod Updater. Go and format the iPod instead.
    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
    For Window computer
    Go to folder “My Computer”
Hope you can see your iPod there and right click on the iPod
Choose “Format”. Ensure the settings are at “Default” and that “Quick Format” is not checked
    Now select “Format”
Eject your iPod and do a Reset
Open the iPod Updater and click “Restore”
In case you do not manage to do a “Format” on a window computer, try to use some 3rd party disk utility software, e.g.“HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool”.

    C. Windows users having trouble with their iPods should locate a Mac user. In many cases when an iPod won't show up on a PC that it will show up on the Mac. Then it can be restored. When the PC user returns to his computer the iPod will be recognized by the PC, reformatted for the PC, and usable again. By the way, it works in reverse too. A Mac user often can get his iPod back by connecting it to a PC and restoring it.
    Tips
    a. It does not matter whether the format is completed or not, the key is to erase (or partly) the corrupted firmware files on the Hard Drive of the iPod. After that, when the iPod re-connected with a computer, it will be recognized as an fresh external hard drive, it will show up on the iPod updater.
    b. It is not a difficult issue for a Mac user to find a window base computer, for a PC user, if they can’t find any Mac user, they can go to a nearest Apple Shop for a favor.
    c. You may need to switch around the PC and Mac, try to do several attempts between “Format” and “Restore”

    Advance Level
    A. Diagnostic mode solution
If you have tried trouble shooting your iPod to no avail after all the steps above, chances are your iPod has a hardware problem. The iPod's built-in Diagnostic Mode is a quick and easy way to determine if you have a "bad" iPod.
You need to restart your iPod before putting it into Diagnostic Mode. Check that your hold switch is off by sliding the switch away from the headphone jack. Toggle it on and off to be safe.
Press and hold the following combination of buttons simultaneously for approximately 10 seconds to reset the iPod.
    iPod 1G to 3G: "Menu" and "Play/Pause"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Menu" and "Select"
The Apple logo will appear and you should feel the hard drive spinning up. Press and hold the following sequence of buttons:
iPod 1G to 3G: "REW", "FFW" and "Select"
iPod 4G+ (includes Photo, Nano, Video, and Mini): "Back" and "Select"
You will hear an audible chirp sound (3G models and higher) and the Apple logo should appear backwards. You are now in Diagnostic Mode. Navigate the list of tests using "REW" and "FFW". The scroll wheel will not function while in diagnostic mode. For further details on Diagnostic mode can be found at http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/ipodsupport/diagnosticmode/
Try to do the 5in1, HDD R/W and HDD scan tests. Some successful cases have been reported after the running the few tests under the Diagnostic mode. In case it does not work in your case, and the scan tests reports show some errors then it proves your iPod has a hardware problem and it needs a repairing service.
    B. Format your iPod with a start disk
I have not tried this solution myself, I heard that there were few successful cases that the users managed to get their iPod (you must put your iPod in disk mode before connecting with a computer) mounted by the computer, which was booted by a system startup disk. For Mac, you can use the Disk Utility (on the Tiger OS system disk), for PC user, you can use the window OS system disk. Try to find a way to reformat your iPod, again it does not matter which format (FAT32, NTFS or HFS+) you choose, the key is to erase the corrupted system files on the iPod. Then eject your iPod and do a Reset to switch out from Disk Mode. Reboot your computer at the normal way, connect your iPod back with it, open the iPod updater, and hopefully your iPod will appear there for the Restore.
If none of these steps address the issue, your iPod may need to be repaired.
Consider setting up a mail-in repair for your iPod http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
Or visit your local Apple Retail Store http://www.apple.com/retail/
In case your iPod is no longer covered by the warranty and you want to find a second repairing company, you can try iPodResQ at your own risk
    http://www.ipodresq.com/index.php
Just in case that you are at the following situation
    Your iPod warranty is expired
You don’t want to pay any service charges
You are prepared to buy a new one
You can’t accept the re-sell value of your broken iPod
Rather than leave your iPod as paper-weight or throw it away.
You can try the following, but again, only do it as your last resort and at your own risk.
Warning !!!! – It may or may not manage to solve your problem, and with a risk that you may further damage your iPod, which end up as an expensive paper weight or you need to pay more higher repairing cost. Therefore, please re-consider again whether you want to try the next level
    Last Resort Level
    1. . Disconnecting the Hard Drive and battery inside the iPod – Warning !! Your iPod warranty will be waived once you open the iPod.
In Hong Kong there are some electronic shops offering an iPod service for Sad iPod, the first thing they do is to open up the iPod’s case and disconnecting the battery and the Hard Drive from the main board of the iPod. Wait for 5-10 minutes and reconnecting them back. The reason behind which I can think of is to do a fully reset of a processor of the iPod. In case you want do it itself and you believe that you are good on fixing the electronics devices and have experience to deal with small bits of electronic parts, then you can read the following of how to open the iPod case for battery and HDD replacement (with Quicktimes)
    http://eshop.macsales.com/tech_center/index.cfm?page=Video/directory.html
2.Press the reset button on the Hard Drive inside the iPod – Suggestion from Kill8joy
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2438774#2438774
Have I tried these myself? No, I am afraid to do it myself as I am squeamish about tinkering inside electronic devices, I have few experiences that either I broke the parts (which are normally tiny or fragile) or failed to put the parts back to the main case. Therefore, I agree with suggestion to have it fixed by a Pro.
