Problems with RGB colors in Illustrator

Hello,
i have a problem with saving my artwork which is done in illustrator in PDF file. This artwork needs to be saved in PDF in RGB colors. It seams  that I cannot do this. Originaly artwork was done in CMYK. Option Edit/Edit Colors/conver to RBG is not working that is this option is not possible.
Any suggestions please. Printing company cannot process it if PDF is not in RGB colors.
Thank you in advance.

But there is no difference in either case as the file will not be overwritten.
True that the file will not be overwritten if you're careful not to do a regular save, but there is a difference.
When you switch from CMYK to RGB document mode in Illustrator, AI simply converts to whatever you've set as your RGB working space. Yes, of course, you can go into Color Settings and change your workspace profile if need be, but now you're monkeying with settings that you might not want to be changing frequently.
Why not, instead, take advantage of a feature that's there specifically to deal with workflow issues like this?
If the printer requires a specific RGB space that's different from your normal working space, it's much easier to select it from the destination color dropdown during PDF creation. If you'll be creating more files for this particular printer, simply record a custom PDF (job options) preset.
Even if one chooses to do it the Wade Zimmerman way, one should make sure to look at the color panel during PDF creation to make sure no unwanted space conversions are taking place.

  • Problems with PNG colors in illustrator

I'm beyond frustrated with illustrator's png export at this point, contacted adobe customer service 3-4 times with no answer, already made a post about this with no solution, here is the problem; everytime I export from illustrator as a png the color changes. It doesn't matter if I am working in RGB or cmyk, the color will always change, typically the colors just look faded/ less saturated. There is no way for me to match the color of an exported jpeg to an exported png. This is a problem because when I give my clients their logo in png I need to import it into photoshop or preview to change the color coding so that it matches the previous jpegs I would sent them, now while working with packaging (cmyk document) the png export looks pretty faded, but it prints fine. Is this typical? My in illustrator colors look fine and are the same as my jpeg exports, the only thing that has a different color look is png exports, no matter if I choose embed color profile (save for web), assign profile, bascially any color choosing option in illustrator. I'm wondering what does everyone else do when their client wants the logo in a png? Do you just work around this with assigning a profile in a program other than illustrator?

I am afraid that the workaround is all you can do at the moment; open the png file in Photoshop and assign sRGB profile (you can set the Ask when Opening for missing profiles in the Photoshop color settings).
There is no way to embed a color profile in a .png file in Illustrator (like you can in Photoshop's Save for Web dialog)
But that looks like a good feature request:

  • Problems with "no color" in the "Fill and Stroke"

I am having problems with “no color” in the “Fill and Stroke” function of Flash CS4 Pro.
I had been using CS4 for 10 days and everything worked fine. Then I tried experimenting with various color combinations (along with “no color”) for “Fill and Stroke” for a simple button. Suddenly CS4 locked up on me while I was working with the “color panel”. A second color panel appeared in the upper left corner and the program was not responding. All I could do was to end the CS4 task.
After that, whenever I created even a simple rectangle, at first the colors would appear as indicated for “Fill and Stroke”, but when I selected the object to see its properties, either the stroke or the fill color box would have a red slash line, indicating a “no color”, and I couldn’t select the color box to change it using the ink bottle tool, although the other box worked fine.
Rebooting did not help. So I uninstalled CS4 (and didn’t keep the preferences), rebooted, then reinstalled it. The problem was still there. Logging on as another user didn’t help. I tried restoring the Windows system to before I installed CS4 and resinstalling it and that didn’t work. I have a disfunctional CS4 now and I don’t know what to do to fix it. Please help me. Thank you.

Have you updated flash to 10.0.2?  Have you played around with a bunch of different selections, objects, and so forth to see if this box is always incorrect?  I think there's some particular selection (order of selecting things, and so on), where the color swatches in one location don't work as expected. However, it should not happen all the time and from what I recall it was fairly easy to work around (I can't even figure out what this was - so probably not it, as it seems hard to run into or perhaps now fixed).
Also make sure you have the stroke selected - if you don't have everything selected, either the fill or stroke will show no color and dim depending on the selection.

  • Problem with photos' colors

    Hi,
I have a problem with colors of photos which I'm using in a. InDesign document.
I've created a 20 page catalog, with first and last pages for the front and back of the cover. I placed one photo on the first page and second on the last page. When I opened them earlier on in Photoshop they were matching perfectly, so I figured that it will be the same in InDesign. When I placed them in Indesign it turned out that the photo on the first page has a different color saturation (lower) than the one on the last page. It looks as if the first page was converted to CMYK and the last page was still in RGB mode (the photos were initially in RGB).
I decided to change the color preferences of the photos in photoshop to CMYK and saved thm again for InDesign, but it didn't help (I also checked all of the doc and color preferences in InDesign and all looked fine). It seems that colors are different on the last page only. Is it possible that it has a different color preferences set up? I'm a new InDesign user and I would be gratefull for You help :-)

It sounds like you have transparency of some sort (effects, drop shadow, tranparent image?) on the front and not on the back, and that the transparency blend space is set to CMYK instead of RGB while your image is RGB.

  • Trapping problems with spot colors

    MAC 10.5.4 CS3
I have had two books present similar problems with one of our printers. Both books are 2 color. The first is 2 spot colors and the second is spot and black. The problem is that the traps are showing up as white. It looks like anything that is trapped has a white stoke applied. One book has headers using the spot ink for the text, in a black box. These are all getting the white outline around the text. The other book has the the darker spot for text overprinting screened boxes of the lighter spot. The overprinted text looks ok.
I had previously posted about the illustrations in the 2 spot book and have been able to take care of the issue regarding Transparency vs. postscript. But as we are still having this issue with some text and there is no transparency used I am wondering if there is some setting I can adjust to fix this.

How is the trapping being applied? Did you set it yourself in InDesign?
I think the default for InDesign is to use an InRIP trapping. And I always thought that was not part of ID's setup.
Maybe I'm wrong. So let me know.

  • Very big problem with professional Color Managed Display in PS CC and CS6 win7 64 bits

    How to reproduce this problem:
    - Photoshop CS6/CC
    - Win 7 Ultimate 64 bits English with all the updates.
    - ATI 7870 / HD 550 and early graphics cards.
    - Dell U3014, CINTIQ 21UX (in the 7870), 2 samsung 2232 in the 5500 (all on, or one at the time)
    - Spyder 3/4 Elite, Eyeone Display 2, DispCal (argyll), ColorEyes 1.60
After the calibration and profile process with everyone of this Display profling tools (lets supose that is all right), open a image with more saturated colors (with Adobe 1998 RGB color space) in CS6 or CC, and hit the "F" key to toggle screens.
You will see that the saturated colors will change (will become even more saturated) in the nest two screen modes, and color come back to the "normal" if hit F one more time.
Seems like the photoshop get rid of calibration luts in the 2 F screens modes and come back to normal when the image are in the initial screen mode.
ps: the loaders startups of each display calibration, was choosed one of the time when I restart the PC ( so, there are no multi loaders trying to put your luts at same time)
    - PS CS6 / CC and WINDOWS are totally up to date
    - The driver of display cards, are the latest AND the windows certificated
    - There are no other software installed on the PC that try to handle the display card or even diferents CMS.
    - In fact the Windows is a fresh install
    - This happen in RGB and CMYK images.
    This is very frustating..:(

Dear Lundberg, in fact I'm wrong about this happen in RGB images, only happen in CMYK (whatever CMYK)
If you have an up to date Win 7 64bit, PS CS6 or CC, and calibrate your display with any colorimeter spectrophotometer and their respective softwares. Download an image like this flowers:
    http://hdw.eweb4.com/out/663221.html
Before, be sure to set in PS, this color settings attachad :
Open this file, convert to CMYK and hit the F key to toggle between screen modes.
If you have a calibrated display with,  let me say, Eyeone and Coloreyes, and the videoLuts loader is on, when you hit the "F" key, the colors on the CMYK image, will become way more saturated/heavy/dense, so Hit the F key until the screen mode is "normal" the color come back to the normal too.
I test this behavior in 8 machines so far, and in all this machines, the change in the colors are very noticiable, to reach a point that I cant be used in color professional works.
I hope that now I could express my self good enough.
    Regards.

  • Problem with RGB Values for Canvas Type ‚Horizontal Toolbar' in Webforms 10

    Hello,
I have a problem with the canvas type ‘Horizontal Toolbar’ in Webforms 10g.
When I try to set or change the RGB value of a ‘Horizontal Toolbar’ with the forms function
    Set_Canvas_Property(‘my_horizontal_toolbar’, BACKGROUND_COLOR, rgb-value)
(at runtime) it has no effect in Webforms 10g for the canvas type ‘Horizontal Toolbar’ (the background color of the horizontal toolbar doesn’t change).
But it works fine for other canvas types like ‘Stacked’ or ‘Content’.
In Oracle 6i (Client / Server) this function works quiet well (even for the ‘Horizontal Toolbar’ canvas type).
The reason why we are using rgb values instead of visual attributes in this case is, that the color of the ‘Horizontal Toolbar’ should be customizeable (via a RGB Field) for our customers (at runtime).
Further more we are using the same technique for Text-Field-Items, Content- and Stacked-Canvases (and all works fine).
Maybe it has something to do with the pre-configured IAS color-schema (blaf).
But changing the color schema (e.g.: from 'blaf' to 'red') has no effect also.
    Thanks for your help.

This is probably bug 777312. Call Support for the latest info on this bug and for help getting it fixed.

  • Problem with "unite" option in illustrator

    Hello,
I have problem with new Illustrator. I get distorted shapes after using "unite" in pathfinder or when rescaling, often shapes get distorted when expanding strokes to shapes, what is going on? I use illustrator for quite some time and never had anything like this. Screenshots attached.
Also I need to updade software through CC app each time I turn computer on, update seems not to register somehow.
    Please Help
    Kamil

    Kamil,
In cases like this, the first guess is Align to Pixel Grid
You may select everything and then untick Align to Pixel Grid in the Transform pallete, and also untick Align New Objects to Pixel Grid in the flyout options.
You may avoid document types with that as default (RGB for web and the like) or change the default for such documents.

  • CS4 Printing problem with RGB

When I try to print an 8x10 image using the default RGB color, I get a vertical band about 2 inches wide along the left side or bottom of the document, depending on orientation. This band looks as though there were a filter over that portion of the image. This band only exists on that edge of the document (bottom edge if printing landscape). If I decrease the image size, the band will then cover less of the image until I make the image small enough that it is no longer overlapped by this band. What is very odd, is that it is not present on all pictures taken with the very same camera.
This band is only visible in the print preview and the print itself. The on-screen image looks just fine.
If I switch to CMYK color, the band no longer shows up, but I do not like the resultant image quite as much. If I change to lab color, the problem goes away entirely. I am not sure if there are any possible downsides of using lab color mode, but I would prefer to not have to change form RGB at all.
I have tried multiple images to include .CR2 and originally shot .JPG's. I also get the exact same results on my laptop, which also has CS4 on it.
This clearly has nothing to do with my Canon MP560 printer, as the issue can be seen in the print preview.
This is a hard one to Google, so any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Also a bit more information to provide you. If I convert image to JPG using Canons Digital Photo Professional, the band is no longer visible in print. If I simply perform a "Save as.." to .jpg from .CR2 in CS4, the band is still present.
The only way to get rid of the band is to convert it with 3rd party software or change color mode to CMYK or lab color within Adobe. Hope this helps.
The above pic is one that will have this band in the print and print preview. The border of this band will run right across my daughters lower lip.

There's nothing damaged about your JPEG image.  The one thing about it that may be different than that which you are getting out of Canon's converter is that it's using the Adobe RGB color space.
I suspect your Photoshop - printer driver interface is not properly handling the Adobe RGB profile.
Try this as a workaround / diagnostic:
    1.  Open the .cr2 file in Camera Raw.
    2.  Click the little link at the center-bottom of the dialog.
    3.  Change the "Space" field from Adobe RGB to sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
    4.  Complete the conversion.
    5.  Try printing that image.  I'm betting it will look better.
If your print comes out correctly, then what's happening is that somehow the Adobe RGB document profile is not being properly interpreted during the printing process.  If you want to be able to print documents using other than those in the sRGB color space then you may need a printer driver update, or possibly a change in the printing settings defining who does the color management.
There have been a lot of reports of Photoshop not doing proper color management with certain printers (e.g., Epson), and I recall at least one report very similar to yours where a driver update solved the problem.

  • Sync problems with ipod color

Hi I'm having problems copying music onto my ipod. I am running iTunes 5 with the latest iPod software (1.2 from ipod updater 2005-09-23) on a windows XP platform with Service pack 2. My iPod is connected to my computer through USB 2.0.
When I plug my ipod to my computer, everything works fine, it gets recognized, I see the "do not disconnect" icon on the ipod and it starts syncing but the problem is, way before it finishes tranfering the songs, my ipod comes back to the main menu. I can read in iTunes that the transfer is complete and that it's ok to disconnect my ipod, even though it was NOT complete!
This really bugs me because I can't put all my songs onto my ipod and have to disconnect/reconnect it all the time to actually put my songs in it. What can I do to keep the transfer "alive" ?? please someone help me.

    Hi,
I have the same type of problem with my iPod 20GB color running XP Home SP2. This happens when I import a large number of songs (over 100 or so) from my CD's in iTunes at one time. It will disconnect and then restart the transfer over again several times. I figured out that when your iPod is actually connected and doing the transfer, if you right click on the iPod (example: Joe Smiths iPod) in the iTunes left side menu, and click on "update" every 40 or 50 songs or so it will transfer everything without disconnecting. I discovered this yesterday while transferring about 270 songs to my iPod after it tried to automatically do it about three times. I don't know if this is the "real" fix for this but it worked for me. The problem doesn't appear to happen with a couple of CD's worth of songs.
    Good luck!

Hi  - Go ahead and try the steps in this document.  It will walk you through cleaning the contacts on both the cartridge and in the carriage.  What can happen over time is ink residue can accumulate on the contacts preventing the ink cartridges from working properly.  If this doesn't resolve the issue, try setting the cartridge with the nozzles face down on a damp paper towel for about 45 seconds just to resolve any problems with the ink nozzles.
    Hope that helps.

    Hello folks,
I recently updated from LR 5.3 to Lightroom 5.4 and since then I am having problem when using dng color profiles which were created with Colorchecker Passport. Every time I use such a profile which was created for my Nikon D 800 I get very greenish tones in the pictures.
I use Windows 7 Pro on a HP Z 210 Workstation. The monitor is a hardware-calibrated Quato which was recently calibrated.
Does anyone have this problem too and - if yes - know how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    Hello Andrew,
I do have a Nikon D 800 and a Fuji X-E1. I haven's noticed a problem with the Fuji so far. I think I will recalibrate my monitor tomorrow and see if the problem still exists.
I can supply raws and DNG profiles but I don't know where I should upload them - I suggest I could do it on my own webspace. Would that be ok?
