Problems with Sandisk Cruzer flash drive

I've never used a flash drive before but I recently bought a 4GB SanDisk Cruzer flash drive to use for temporary backups of photo images. When I first inserted it into the USB port of my Mac Mini PPC G4 it wouldn't show up in the finder. I called SanDisk and they told me to reformat the drive using Disk Utility's OS Mac Extended which I did. The drive then worked fine. Recently I dragged all the photos saved on the drive to the trash and attempted to save about a 100 new photos to it and I got an insufficient space error message. As there should have been plenty of room for these photos I was puzzled by this and wound up reformatting the drive again in hopes that it would solve the problem, which it did. Am I doing something wrong here, and if not, any idea what's forcing me to to reformat the drive every time I want to add new files to it?
Thanks,
Win

As simple as it sounds, one has to ask first...
When you dragged items from the flash drive to the Trash
or had highlighted them all, and used Move to Trash... Did
you Empty the Trash - and clear the items from the flash?
The usual issues are with unmounting the USB flash,
and when moving a lot of content, the time lag; so a
few knowns continue to be similar with most users.
Once in awhile, you may get a defective item, and if that
happens right away, some retail vendors will exchange
the one that does not work with another, or credit back
if bought on a card and you can choose to try elsewhere.
Reformatting the USB flash drive is often a last resort;
but that should've fixed the basic problem. If flash acts
up you can also use Get Info on the item to see if it says
there is a content being held there after you've thought
to trash the files associated with its use.
Good luck & happy computing!

  • Sandisk cruzer flash drive and iphoto

everytime i insert my sandisk usb flash drive, iphoto launches automatically ready to import photos, even when there's no photos to import. i usually just command-Q to quit iphoto, but it gets annoying to do it everytime, especially when all i want to do is edit my documents saved in my flash drive. is there a way to stop iphoto from starting everytime i insert my flash drive?

    WuFong:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. In the Image Capture preferences there's a drop down menu titled "When a camera is connected". Select No Application as shown here. that will let you connect the flash drive without iPhoto launching.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Problems with a key flash drive of 32GB from HP

    Hello all,
I have recently acquired a USB key pendrive from HP with 32GB of capacity, but my 17" Macbook Pro has a problem while recognizing it. It is not even shown in finder, Disk Utility, etc.
Curiously, I have tried the same key pendrive in a 13" Macbook Pro and it works perfectly. Both computers run OS X 10.6.8.
Now, my 17" Macbook Pro actually recognizes the same type of key pendrive with only 8GB capacity (I own two) from the same brand.
Both pendrives have MS-DOS format (also called FAT32). I have tried modifying this format to MAC OS Extended, but my computer still doesn't recognize it.
Both are from the same version (11), have the same product ID (0x5a07), same manufacturer (0x03f0 - Hewlett Packard) and I have tried to erase their data and start again from scratch, but it still doesn't solve the problem.
What is the problem, then? I've though of compatibility problems with high capacities, but my computer (MP 17") recognizes an external hard drive with 500GB with no problems. So how can I solve this?
    Thank you,

  • Problem  with Lexar USB Flash Drive

I have a 2GB Lexar Firefly USB Flash Drive. It works fine, but when I delete files off the flash drive, the space taken up by those deleted files does not become available again for use. Any help??

try to empty the trash before you unplug the flash, maybe that might help.

  • Weirdness with SanDisk compact flash

I just purchased a SanDisk usb flash drive. I inserted (into the [usb 1] port on the mac keyboard), and formatted with Mac OS Extended/Journaled, I reboot and get: "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer", it then gives the "ignore" or "eject" options, I click "ignore" and it mounts on the desktop just fine.
If the thing isn't connected, and I then insert the flash drive, the drive mounts but it is then followed by a CD icon popping on the desktop with the name "Untitled CD" -- !!??
Recap: Reboot with the flash drive inserted, I get the warning. Insert after the computer is up and I get no warning but the CD icon appears along with the regular flash drive icon.
I tried this all on another partition with the same results. Also, I inserted a different "Lexar Jump Drive" without any of the aforementioned problems.
Can anyone give me a clue?
Could the SanDisk somehow not be compatible with the Mac?
    I'd appreciate any input.
    TIA,
    Geoff

    Hi, Geoff.
    1. You wrote: "I just purchased a SanDisk usb flash drive."What specific model or model number? Given how many they make, that's important information relative to your question.
    2. You wrote: "Could the SanDisk somehow not be compatible with the Mac?"It's possible the firmware on the specific UFD (USB Flash Drive) you have is designed for PCs. It may have specialized firmware for other functions, such as security, that do not work with Mac OS X or Macs. The anomalies you are seeing do seem strange.
I recommend you contact SanDisk. When you have problems with third-party hardware or software, it is often more expedient and effective to start with their Web site and their support. You paid them for it, they should support it. I'd at least recommend you look at their Self Help.
    3. If you want to continue troubleshooting before contacting SanDisk, you might try reformatting the UFD. When you formatted the UFD, did you select the device, not the volume on the device? For example, In the column on the left in Disk Utility, you might see something like this:<pre>38.2 GB IBM-DTLA-307045
Macintosh HD</pre>The first line ("38.2 GB..." etc.) is the disk, the actual hard drive itself, also known as the device.
The second, indented line (Macintosh HD) is your Mac OS X startup disk, aka your boot volume. This is a volume on the device. Volumes -- partitions on a disk -- appear indented below the disk in Disk Utility. If the device has multiple partitions defined on it that Disk Utility can recognize, there will be multiple volumes listed below the device. The UFD may also have a hidden partition that Mac OS X cannot see, such as software or firmware related to special features, like security.
With your UFD, select the device for erasure using the Erase tab of Disk Utility. You may also want to add one of the Security Options available from the Erase tab before formatting, e.g. Zero Out Data, to assure there are no "bad spots" in the flash memory, akin to bad sectors on a hard drive.
    Good luck!

  • Problem with dreamweaver and Flash

Hi, maybe someone can help me, i have any problem with
dreamweaver and flash, i have a page and i have a menu and
    sub-menu, and the same page i have a category en flash 550 x 700 (
photography and more... ) but when the menu to unfold
the menu to see under flash and it cant see ( sorry my
english is bad.... i hope you can understand me, and help me.. )
i dont now why always flash ever stay up, or first, and
another information under flash... this a problem... if you have
    menus...
    thanks.... have nice day.....

This is a drawback of using flash or any other active
content. By default, all active content including flash will
display over every other content and thats why your menu stays
under the flash movie. Some people make the flash background
transparent to show content under the flash movie, but that will
    not work for menu items.
I would suggest that you make the menu such that it does not
    overlap with the flash movie.

  • Problem with Installer and DVD drive

I am having problems with my dvd combo drive reading discs. It keeps spitting them out. More importantly, I am trying to load Adobe Illustrator CS2 and cannot get all the wat through the installation proccess. Is there a patch I am not aware of??

You could be looking at some kind of driver corruption issue (say if that sector on your hd had gone bad, or the file was dorked somehow). Have you done repaired permissions on the hd recently?
Do all types of DVDs fail -- music, movies, and apps? If some work and others do not, then it could be a problem with a particular app.
It never hurts to check the cables. Insufficient data or power can cause all kinds of problems.

  • I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

I refurbished my macbook air 7 months ago because there was a problem with the steady state drive. Now my battery seems to be dead again. How long does the warranty last? Do I need to pay for a new battery?

As I wrote Apple will diagnose an Apple product even if it is out of warranty for free. That should be your first step to find out if the problem is the battery or something else.
Once you have Apple telling you a 7 month old battery is defective (if that turns out to be the case)  then it becomes a game of horse trading. You'll need to speak to the tech and when he tells you there is nothing he can do you will need to speak to the tech manager and when she says most likely there is nothing they can do you go to the store manager, etc.  It is unlikely (though possible) that they will give in easily you need to be firm, polite and let on that you're willing to accept a partial reimbursement.
So again the first step is to find out what is wrong.
    good luck

I currently have a mbp 2.3 gighuz intel core 7 16 gig of ram with two internal hard drives ( took super drive out) which for a video editor like myself is a dream I can edit video anywhere, my question can I order a new mbp with 2 internal flash drives?

I wouldn't think so because the newer ones with Retina displays don't have an internal SuperDrive that can be replaced. Therefore the newer logic boards wouldn't have the two SATA/SATA Express connections on the logic board.
At least that was the case as of 2012. I've seen newer ones and they also don't have a SuperDrive.

Do other USB devices work on your MBP?
Does this USB stick work on other MBPs?
There is a possibility that the stick requires more power than the MBP delivers.  Try it on a powered hub.

  • Compatibility problem with macro media flash active control

I am getting a message on my screen "compatibility problem with macro media flash active control, it isnt compatible with my version of windows (vista).  How can this be fixed?  why am I suddenly getting it now?  I have the latest Adobe flash player installed.

the latest flash is probably the problem... it's seems that the latest flash has been causing a boat load of issues. i did a system restore to undo the flash and mozilla upgrades and it's still crashing but not as bad as it was with the upgrades.

It is normal for it to get warm when it's being used, especially if it is hot outside. It can even get uncomfortably warm. As long as it is not causing you physical harm (as in giving you burns) or displaying a temperature warning, then it's normal behavior. It's like taking your laptop outside and using it. Except the laptop will probably burn you.

  • New Keyboard Not Compatible With All USB Flash Drives

    Hi,
I've noticed that the new super-thin iMac keyboards are not compatible with all USB Flash Drives. Here's an example.
I have 2 USB Flash Drives. One is a ByteStor 2GB USB 2.0 High Speed Dataferry Flash Drive, the other is a Kingston DataTraveler 1GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Neither of these drives used to work with the previous design of iMac keyboard, giving me the "low power" warning.
However, the ByteStor works just fine with the new super-thin iMac keyboard, but oddly enough, the Kingston DataTraveler doesn't. Does anyone know why this is? What's the difference? When buying a new USB Flash Drive, how do you know if it's compatible with the new iMac keyboard or not?

Thanks. Yeah the Kingston DataTraveler works just fine if I plug it into one of the USB 2.0 ports on the back of the iMac. But if I plug it into the new thin Apple Keyboard, it gives the low power warning.

Anyway, I'll try that new keyboard software update and report back.

  • I am having an issue with a USB flash drive.

Hello, I am having an issue with a USB flash drive. I have a 2012 iMac OS X 10.9. Drive keeps on disconnecting after about 30 seconds. I tried to reformat through Disk Utility but doesn't allow me to verify or repair as it disconnects. This same drive works fine on Windows machines. I tried all USB ports but all give the same issue. Message is: "Disk Not Ejected Properly. Eject "No Name" before disconnecting or turning off." When I attempt to copy data from the disk it comes up with the message: "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "" can't be read or written (Error code -36)". I believe the solution for this error is to format the drive but as mentioned this function doesn't work. I need to copy data from a Windows machine to my iMac. Any suggestions with this is appreciated. Thanks!

I went back to a Windows machine, formatted it to NTFS (so lost the data but had a backup), recopied the data. Went back to the Mac but same issue happened after I tried copying the data "Disk Not Ejected Properly - Eject " " before disconnecting or turning off." One of the USB ports didn't detect the 32GB flash drive at all. And disconnected on another one.

  • Problems with Elitebook 8460p graphics driver

    Hello
I´m having problems with Elitebook 8460p display driver. The last version (15.28.20.64.3347) posted on 16 jun 2014 have some issues on the laptop. When the notebook is running on batteries the screen suffers from flickering and corrupted graphics, as you can see in this video:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ1w0aOaF7A
(you can see the flickering between 0:20-0:22)
I contacted with local hp support and send me an IT guy, who changed my mainboard and CPU, but nothing worked. I tried to contact with intel for support (the issue is present with intel non-oem drivers) but they send me to OEM. I would like to have an actual driver that works with the system (3347 is a year old driver), is this possible?
This issue isn´t present at all in linux drivers, plus mainboard change i totally discard a hardware problem.
I can provide feedback for any solution provided.
    Thanks!

    Hello @falken2k5
To get your issue more exposure I would suggest posting it in the commercial forums since the Elitebook 8460p is a commercial product. You can do this here Notebook - HP ProBook, EliteBook, Compaq, Slate/Tablet PC, Armada, LTE
