Problems with saving pdf as a word doc

hello, i
recently upgraded to acrobt x pro, and i went to convert a one-page pdf into a word doc.  i went to "file,"
"save as," "word document, and when i went to view
the word doc, the format/layout/font, etc. was completely garbled.  what could i be doing wrong?  thanks!

Your problem is likely with the PDF not having the tags that provide the format information you are expecting. Such information is not needed for the PDF, but is used for the conversion back to WORD. You could try converting a file from DOC to PDF and back to DOC with both a print to the Adobe PDF printer and PDF Maker to get the format info. See how they compare and you should get the idea.

  • Problem with saving PDF in Preview

When I open PDF file in Preview in OS 10.5. (make changes) and save it as PDF again, this pdf file does not display corectly on PC. Fonts are missing. When I save in Acrobat, everything is correct. I looked on the information about saved pdf, and Prewiev inserts some fonts to PDF. Acrobat reader on PC tells me, that some fonts can be removed and pdf may be not dispayed correctly. This problem is only in Leopard, because in Tiger was everything fine. Does anybody know any solution? Thank you.

I see this same behavior, and it is a serious pain for us LaTeX writers.
I have found a rather annoying work-around: if you manually close the file before re-opening it (Cmd-W), it will honor this "Start on the last viewed page" option and behave like it used to.
Of course, then it starts off at the start zoom level... but, at least, with a large project, you're not having to opt-cmd-g ("go to page") and remember page numbers.

  • Saving PDF as a Word doc.

    Hey guys...
when i went to save my PDF i got in an email, to a word doc, everything seemed fine.
once i opened the word doc in in microsoft word, it seemed to open it as a JPEG or something like a clip-art.
i need to be able to edit the text, take some words out, add some words, and then save that as either a word doc or return it to a PDF...
any help would be greatly appreciated, as i am at work, and never have had this happen, although i am fairly new to Acrobat Professional.
    thanks.

The "boxes" are "frames" which are a facility of MS Word that the application uses to provide a semblance of logical hierarchy (layout/format) to content from a source that does not have this.
The behavior you describe is typically associated with a PDF that is not a Tagged PDF.
Going to RTF results in the same thing.
Provided an authoring file is mastered with a proper and consistent logical hierarchy (One item, for example, is use of built-in headings - another is use of space above/below settings for Headings and Style vice use of the enter key to provide white space between paragraphs.)
and the authoring application has appropriate tag management for the PDF output then a Tagged PDF can be provided.
Tagged PDF is what provides the ability to export PDF page content to some other application while retaining layout/format/font information and such. Another facility of Tagged PDF is Accessible PDF.
As to editing page content that is bounded by the MS Word "frames" - it can be done with much copy-paste labor.
    Then the layout/format work begins.
    Really much easier to:
--| Print a hard copy of the PDF
--| Use Save As to a *.txt file
--| Open MS Word using the desired template
--| Open the *.txt file with MS Word
--| Establish the desired Headings and Styles (as dictated by the template)
--| Do the above while referencing the hard copy of the PDF.
Still a time consuming activity; but, not as ugly as trying to deal the content in MS Word "frames".
After developing the "clean" MS Word file use Publisher's File > Import Word Document.
    Be well...

  • Problem with saving pdf files to Mac

    Hi All
I'm having a problem with pdf files.  When I get sent a pdf fielder email I can open it with no problems but I cannot seem to save it successfully to my Mac. I've tried opening file and doing a 'save as', copy and pasting and dragging and dropping but I keep getting the following message
Adobe Reader could not open 'filename.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
Any ideas how I sort this out?

Can you use your email client's Save Attachments feature to save the file?

I realize that many word processors have an option to turn off the printer metric use. I finally found it in OFFICE 2007 and it is indeed off. It is not off in OFFICE 2003. Though it is available to folks, it is far from an obvious option in WORD. In the word processor I use it is NOT an option and there is actually a warning in the help about the printer metrics. The fact that there may be a switch in a package is not a given and the information I provide is not incorrect, though adding a comment about a switch option is reasonable.
Yes it's on in prior versions that wasn't ny uncertainity. I wasn't positive it was off in Office 2007. Why do you make a strawman argument over something that isn't the point of contention ? <sigh>
You were incorrect. Printer Metrics is the only answer because it's a global switch. You're not helping by telling people to use a solution that's not permanent. It's a clumsy hack.

  • Is anyone else having problems with saving PDFs to disk?

Recently, I have not been able to download and save PDF files on my iMac. Every time I download a file it is blank. The problem started several weeks ago and I thought at the time that the file was somehow protected. However, I successfully did a download and save to my old iMac G4 without a problem and opened it in Acrobat Professional 7, copied the file over to my Intel iMac with OSX 10.8.2 and opened the file successfully in Acrobat 10.
    Here are Acrobat specs
    Architecture: i386
    Build: 10.1.5.33
    AGM: 4.21.25
    CoolType: 5.8.121
    JP2K: 2.0.0.26663
    ADM: 10.01x33
The same problem exists on my MacBookPro running identical software and OS as my Intel iMac.
I faithfully upgrade my Mac OS software with each new release and do the same with my Adobe Suite software. The problem has to reside with the OSX 10.8.2 since things work normally on my old iMac G4.
Does anyone know of a fix for this? I'm not going through the uninstall and reinstall process without exproring all avenues first.
    Dan

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
    If that doesn't work...
To find out if it's system wide or user specific, try this...
Open System Preferences>Users & Groups, unlock the lock, click on the little plus icon, make a new admin account, log out & into the new account.
Does it work in the new account?

  • Problem with saving pdf in CS5 and opening it in CS4

I have just got an Illustrator CS5 – my colleague’s works in CS4. We are always working directly in pdf-format.
If I make a pdf in CS5, my colleagues can’t open this pdf in Illustrator CS4.
I know that I can save to CS4 if I work in AI-format, but I would like to continue working in pdf.
Have any of your tried the same and can you help me with this? Thanks

Thank you for your reply :o)
It could have been so nice if it was possible to decide which version I would save my pdf in like it is possible in Autodesk products to save to an older version of there dwg-files.
All can read pdf but there are so few who can read AI. So If I want to work in CS5, I have to save in AI to my CS4 colleaques and in pdf to my pdf-reading customers.

A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially.
I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • How to open and read pdf and micrsoft word (.doc) files or documents

My problem is how to use my BB 9800 software version 6.0.0.546 to read/view pdf files and microsoft office documents. I have also bought documents to go from online and have installed it on my phone, but whenever i try to open it I receive a message that it is incompactible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi, Sammy.
Why not install a 3rd party PDF reader and Word Doc reader to help open and read pdf and micrsoft word (.doc) files or documents? You can google it and select one whose way of processing is simple and fast to help you with the related converting work.  It will be better if it is totally manual and can be customized by users according to our own favors. Remember to check its free trial package first if possible. I hope you success. Good luck.
    Best regards,

  • Font changes when i try to create a pdf from a word doc

I am trying to create a pdf from a word doc. I have tried multiple times and each time i do the font i used in the word doc gets changed on the pdf

This seems to be a common problem... this is not the first time I have seen this. Unless it is a general system font, such as Arial, then it seems not to convert too well.
So, if it doesn't matter what font, then just change the font.
Hopefully, Adobe fixes this in the next year. xD
    Good luck

  • After I exported a PDF to a Word doc and downloaded it, I can't get the pointer tool to work.

After I exported a PDF to a Word doc and downloaded it, I can't get the pointer tool to work. When I click on the document text, the only tool is the "move" tool. I can't edit or select text. Please advise.

Version of Adobe: Adobe ExportPDF (not Pro)
    Operating system:  Windows 8.1
Steps I am taking: When the PDF file is selected and opened, I clicked on Tools menu on right side of the screen; then I clicked on Select PDF file; then under Convert To, I selected Microsoft Word (*.docx); then I hit the box below that; and clicked Convert. I then see the message that says it is Converting to Export PDF Online. Then I see a link below that, that says Download Converted File. This takes me online to Adobe Acrobat .com, where, I see the command, Export PDF, and see a blue box on the same screen that says Select PDF Files to Export. I click on the thumbnail of the file I want to export. This brings up, online, a screen containing the file I wanted to convert to Word. Then, on the same screen, I click on the icon on the right hand of the screen that says Download. then I click on the box on the bottom the screen that contains the Word document I had wanted to convert. This brings up the Word doc. in Compatibility Mode the latest Word version, which I am unfamiliar with and which has a Picture Tools tab that I cannot escape from and I cannot get any selection tool other that the Move pointer, and I cannot find the Select text pointer to select any text on the page. I don't want this Word version and do not know how to return to the old version of Word that I am familiar with.
    Can you help me, please?
