Problems with Scientific American podcasts.

I cannot download any podcasts from scientific america. I was able to download 60-second science up until about a week ago, now I'm getting error 8006 for all 60-second podcasts and error 9006 for science talk. All other podcasts are working fine.

Got a second reply back from Apple, they are insisting it is a firewall issue. They say that because the podcasts are user made, something in the way Scientific American makes the podcasts is triggering a problem with my firewall while all my other podcasts are working fine. This sounds like hogwash to me but I tried, again, downloading 60-second Science without my firewall, and, it worked, sort of. The lastest one, which iTunes tried to download automatically when I ran iTunes earlier, still wouldn't download. But, when I had it show all available episodes and then tried to download the ones from yesterday, they downloaded, even tho they wouldn't download yesterday. This still doesn't solve my problem as I'm not going to turn off my firewall just to download podcasts, but it does seem like a firewall problem. I'm going to make sure my firewall is up to date, although I'm sure it is. Not sure what the next step is here, anyone knowledgeable about firewalls, namely Zone Alarm, have any suggestions?

If their is anything incorrect about this then please tell me.

In the <enclosure> tag, which iTunes uses to locate the media file, you have a period at the end, after the 'mp3' - this invalidates the URL and produces a 'file not found' error, hence the 'no episodes' complaint.

  • Sync problems with music and podcasts

    Hi there,
whenever I put new content to the music playlists or I got new podcasts loaded down by iTunes to sync them to the iPhone, the first sync process breaks down. The iPhone applies again after 10 seconds in a locked condition so I have to unlock it fisrt to keep on syncing.
I always have to sync twice to get a result. For example, to get new songs to the iPhone, first I have to put the songs on the iTunes playlist, then I have to sync with a disabled checkbox at "music" (the complete music will be erased at the iPhone) and then I have to sync again with an enabled checkbox (complete music will be sync comletely new at the iPhone).
It takes a lot of time to do the sync process in this way, can anybody help me? Am I doing something wrong?
    Best regards

Another user recently reported a similar problem and it turned out to be an issue with email.
What I would do would be to turn off all syncing except for music and podcasts, reset your phone (perhaps even restore) and try the sync and see if it works. If it does at least you can narrow it down to something other than music and podcasts.

  • Problems with abc video podcast

I'm not sure what's causing this but none of the Abc news video podcast will play in iTunes on my Mac (10.4.4).
If I load the files in Mplayer they work, with a bit of grey pixels here and there.
The podcasts works just fine in iTunes on a windows machine
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=115624496

    Found the problem.
Had a quicktime plugin that was causing the hiccup.
Be careful if you're using the "3ivx D4 4.5.1 for OSX".
I just removed it, and now everything is fine.

  • Having problem with speed of podcast ios5

I have just noticed this morning when I started to listening to a podcast on my ipad 1 64gb 3g with IOS5 that now it only play in 1/2 speed and the control to affect the speed (like in the past 1/2 - 1X - 2X ) is no longer visible.
This is a serious problem, i usually listen to my podcast a 2X so listening at half the speed is painful and useless.
Any work around to at least put them in normal speed?

Thanks, i just did before writing this post this morning, we should allways report problem like this with feedback, was just hoping for a work around in the meantime.
Was i've remember is that the feature is also ( or was) offered in audiobooks, the problem is that i don't have an audiobook in my ipad at this moment and it seem we can get all the music we purchased from the cloud right now, but not the audiobooks.
I'll have to wait to be back home to test this. If i can affect the speed of an audio book maybe the speed will "stick" and will stay identical to it when i play back a podcast.
    Let's just hope.
    I'll update after i try.
Or maybe you can test is if you have a chance.

  • Strange problem with one particular podcast

I have searched on the forums, perhaps I'm not using the correct search terms, but I haven't been able to find another post about a problem similar to this. I use my iphone to listen to various news podcasts while driving. One of them - "CNN Marketplace Update" started doing something very odd at the end of 2009 - every time I update the podcast, I get the 12/31/09 podcast. If I download the one from 4/5/2010, it begins with "Happy New Years Eve! blah blah blah". I download the one from 4/1/2010, it begins with "Happy New Years Eve! blah blah blah". It is actually downloading and saving separate podcast files, but they are all duplicates of the same podcast. I tried unsubscribing and re-subscribing to the same podcast, manually deleted all of the podcast files, and the problem has persisted through an upgrade of the version of itunes I am using. Has anyone else run into a similar problem?

    It's not Apple's responsibility.
Podcasts are created, managed and made available though the iTunes Store (not in the iTunes Store) by the Podcasts's producer. If the same thing happens again, you should contact the producer of the podcast.

  • Problem with starting/stopping podcasts with Apple headset button

Often, when I have paused a podcast on my 3GS using the button on the included headset and then try to play it again (using the headset button), it will play for a couple of seconds. Then the sound cuts out but if I look at the counter on the screen, it is actually still advancing. The only way to rectify it is to use the on-screen controls to pause and then play again. This has happened dozens of times over the span of several months, and it used to happen on my old 3G as well. I have reset and restored many times, so it's not related to that. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yes, I have the same problem. It is quite random and thought at first I was doing something wrong.

  • Problem with certain BBC Podcasts in the UK

I've been subscribing to alot of the BBC Radio 1 Podcasts in the UK (I live here and have had no problems downloading them before), however certain ones simply won't allow me to download. Instead I get a short clip saying 'Sorry, this podcast is only available to download in the UK'.
    Anyone else having this problem?

This problem seems to have solved itself

  • Problems with TED video podcast in ipod classic 80gb

I have a lot of TED video podcast on my itunes on PC but i can't listen and view it on my ipod, i've red somewhere that video podcast with 46kbps are no longer supported by ipod classic? is that right?
    there are any solutions?
please help me, i'm really interested in it

    Yes, I'm still stuck too.
Some of my TED videos showed up in iTunes under "movies" when I migrated to a new computer; likely iTunes found the native files.  These movies play fine but re-subscribing to the TED video podcast and trying to play them under "podcasts" on my iPod Classic (120 gb), they still won't play (screen goes black for about 1 sec, then it skips to the next podcast...repeat until entire list is done).
I saw someone post about a "convert to iPod", but I can't find that option in iTunes (windows 8, iTunes 11)
    Thoughts?

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.

  • Problems with new podcast

    Hi,
I'm having problems with my new podcast. It's already been approved and release and when I look at it on the iTunes Music Store I can listen to my mp3 file without a problem but when I subscribe to it my podcast list doesn't show any files!!! Please help!

    Okay, I took a look at your podcast (in the Store . . . then I subscribed to it . . . then I looked at it in a browser). Anyway . . .
The reason your podcast doesn't work when subscribed-to is that you have some bad code in your rss file. Here is the run-down from Feed Validator.
The highlights are: 1) you have a "bad" (unsupported) character in your <copyright> tag; 2) the <itunes:description> tag only goes under the <item> level, and shouldn't be under <channel>; 3)you have two <pubDate> tags, and instead of "6 May", you need to have "06 May"; 4) you have too many keywords in your <itunes:keywords> tag; 5) you are missing the <itunes:explict> tag.
Those are a lot of things for you to fix - and the reason I list them is that I want you to understand what is/was wrong with your feed. But since it is quite a bit, I went through and edited your code:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <rss xmlns:itunes="http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd" version="2.0">

Now, all that you have to do is copy the above code and paste it over the old code in your file. This should fix all of your problems with iTunes.
If you want to see results fast, go ahead and put this address (https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/pingPodcast?id=254020919) into your browser and hit return after you are done doing all of your updates. Let us know how you fare.

  • Please help I have problems with songs, podcasts, and just general media play

hey guys, I'll get straight into it. My problem is that many of the songs and podcasts in my library come up with the little exclamation mark when I havn't changed anything or deleted anything, so I have to find the original files, which occasisionally just dissapear for no apparent reason. Also I have problems with d/l podcasts as sometimes it wont d/l the newest edition etc but comes up with the little '!' mark. I have just upgraded to iTunes 7 and although the problem was occuring before the upgrade just aggravated it, and messed up my library files causing me to revert to an older library.
Now last and most importantly, my audio has suddenly become choppy since I upgraded. This is similar to the problem I have with the sound in Quicktime only working properly if I keep all other apps and tasks to a bare minimum (even if they take up barely any system resources). This seems strange as my system is not exactly poor performance.
    Thanks in advance guys !

    Hi,
If you right click a file, and do getinfo on the summary page this will give a file location, is this matching the file location on your hard disk? If not that might explain the exclamation marks?
    Kind Regards
    Rich

  • Problem burning my enhanced Podcast (.m4a files)

    Hello together,
Since i have updated to the new iTunes 8.2 i've got some real problems, with burning my Podcast Sessions. (itpc://www.marcomendez.ch/?feed=podcast)
For all my subscribers out there with an iPhone or an iPod touch i create all my podcast episodes as enhanced Podcast. So that they can browse it easily. (Track for Track)
Before i installed the new iTunes, burning my mixes and all other m4a mixes and podcasts of other artists have been splitted track to track on the CD. So i could easily switch between the different tracks in my car, when listening. Unfortunately, with the new iTunes version, the whole mix is burnt as one track. So that i get 1 track with 60 minutes music...this is pretty sad... :((
    This anyone have a solution?!

I downloaded the 64-Bit version of iTunes 8.2 for my pc running Vita - found the same problem with enhanced podcasts. Real bummer! Am considering reinstalling 8.11.
