Problems with Serial Communication using Labview 6 and Solaris 8
I am working on a Driver for a Temperature Controller. But I am stuck at the very basics. I am using Labview 6 and the platform is Solaris 8 on a SUN Ultra 60 Workstation. I can not get the Serial communication to work. When I am running raw (uncompiled) code it works (I can read from and write to ttya and ttyb) but once compiled I get error code 37 (device not found). I have tried the following steps to fix this with no luck.
1) I made sure that the "serpdrv" file is in the same folder with the executable. I also make sure the serpdrv file is added as a support file when building the app.
2) I changed from using traditional serial VI's to labview 6's new visa functions. With these "new" VI's when
I try to initiliaze the visa device and wire a control to the "visa reference" input only 1 serial port shows up (ASRL2, missing ASRL1). I am not sure if this is part of same problem or whole new issue.
3) I reinstalled both visa and labview 6.0.2 update hoping this would help with no luck
4) I placed the following entry into the ".labviewrc" file
labview.serialdevices: "/dev/ttya:/dev/ttyb"
If anybody has had the same problem I would love to hear about it and if you have any solutions

Hi Jamie,
1. Do you have NI-VISA driver installed on the machine on which you are running this executable?? If you are trying to run the executable on the same machine on which the development program has ran fine, then you can ignore this point.
2. If you have done all the changes that are suggested by other discussions related to this topic, then try changing the Port input to Visa Serial Configure.Vi from a control to a constant and try it. In some case, I have seen this to do the trick. I think this point should solve your problem. If it does do tell me. :-))

Since the only thing that changed is the Launchpad, then that must be the issue. Are you sure this device can handle more than just the 9600 baud rate? Are you sure you are even setting the baud rate on this device? -

I can get itunes to start if I disable Bonjour or if I "repair" it first. Sometimes I can repair Bonjour though add/remove programs, sometimes it will only "repair" using WinRar. Sometimes I have to "repair" Bonjour 2 or 3 times to get iTunes to start.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling at least a dozen times. I have tried redownloading iTunes at least 5 times and from different links. This leads me to believe that the dnssd.dll file is not itself corrupt, but this newest version is causing a conflict with XP somewhere somehow.
Team, iTunes 10.2.2.12 has just been released. I installed it and checked, and BonJour's been updated to version 2.0.5.0, and there's a new 2.0.5.0 version of dnssd.dll on my system. So I reckon it's worth a try updating to that to see if it's of any help with your trouble. -
Problem with Join Queries using PHP and an Orcale Database
Ok, I am trying to build a simple php querying tool for my oracle database and for the most part it is working however I am having a problem getting data from my join queries. If I run the following query :
QUERY:
SELECT lastfirst,EnteredBy,Debit FROM students sts JOIN GLDetail gl ON gl.studentid=sts.id
RESULT SET:
Lastfirst EnteredBy Debit
caiu, test 204 1
But when I run the query correctly I get no results
QUERY:
SELECT sts.lastfirst,gl.EnteredBy,gl.Debit FROM students sts JOIN GLDetail gl ON gl.studentid=sts.id
RESULT SET:
sts.lastfirst gl.EnteredBy gl.Debit
and if I run the query combining the two above methods and adding a field (schoolid) that has the same name on both table I get the following result sets

Therefore, I have to have something written incorrectly in my php code and I just can not figure it out. My entire code is pasted below please provide me with an assistance you might have to offer. Urgent: Performance problem with where clause using IN and an OR condition

If I modify the statement to remove the "or (:1 is null))" part at the bottom of the where clause, it returns in .16 seconds. If I modify the statement to only contain the "(:1 is null))" part of the where clause, it returns in .02 seconds. With the whole statement above, it returns in 477 seconds. Anyone have any suggestions?

PeterThanks for the reply, but I have already checked what you are suggesting and I am pretty sure those are not causing the problem. The hr2.full_name column has an upper index and the (4) line of the explain plan shows that index being used. In addition, that part of the query executes on its own quickly.
Because the sql is not displayed in an indented format on this page it is a little hard to understand the structure so I am going to restate what is happening.
My sql is:
select a_column
from a_table
where ((:1 is not null) and a_column in (sub-select statement)
or
(:1 is null))
The :1 bind variable is set to a varchar2 entered on the screen of an application.
If I execute either part of the sql without the OR condition, performance is good.
If the :1 bind variable is null with the whole sql statement (so all rows or a_table are returned), performance is still good.
If the :1 bind variable is a not-null value with the whole sql statement, performance stinks.
As an example:

Problems with JDev 11g using JBOSS and ANT

I'm trying to migrate to JDev 11g with JBoss ( version 7.X ) as the AppServer
With JDev 10g all works fine with JBoss, even the Remote Debug, all OK
here is the problems I have :
1) ANT
JDev doesn't save my ANT settings
every time I launch ANT : Run Ant Target - I must set the Advance settings
JDev 10g I only need to do that once, the settings are saved but not in the 11g, why ?

it seems that is something related to dependencies not well configured during build stage of the EAR, but with 10g works fine
BTW, I can't run my project with WebLogic either, gives this error :

The reason you can't run the application on WLS is that you have not installed the adf runtime on your wls. The error 'application.xml: [Extension-Name: adf.oracle.domain, exact-match: false].' points to this.

(Another) problem with custom painting using JApplet and JPanel

I posted regarding this sort of issue yesterday (http://forums.sun.com/message.jspa?messageID=10883107). I fixed the issue I was having, but have run into another issue. I've tried solving this myself to no avail.
Basically I'm working on creating the GUI for my JApplet and it has a few different JPanels which I will be painting to, hence I'm using custom painting. My problem is that the custom painting works fine on the mainGUI() class, but not on the rightGUI() class. My code is below:

Tristan PerryMany thanks for reminding me about the error catching - I've added a System.out.println() call now. Anywhoo, the catch block never gets run; the image get call works fine.
My problem was/is:

I guess I should have expanded on that. Basically whatever I try to output in the public void paintComponent( Graphics g ) method of the rightGUI class doesn't get output.
So this doesn't output anything:

I've checked and experimented with setOpaque(false), however this doesn't seem to be caused by any over-lapping JPanels or anything.

Communication through RS232c serial interface using labview
i am trying to communicate with a device through RS232c serial interface using labview 6.1....i have tried to run the example "Serial communication.vi" provided in 6.1 and it doesnt work....do i need any special hardware or do i need to configure my hardware to communicate through RS232c...

shriSeems like I placed a small (maybe 30ms) delay at the end of the serialcommunications.vi structure.. for some reason my PC didn't like running as fast as it tried to go. Also look into the actual serial communication.vi and open the vi's inside it - check that the port setting (0 or 1) are ok, the baud rate (probably 9600) are ok. I'm running with only three wires in my application, TX, RX and Common. The PC may need to be rebooted to enable the com port - or use device manager and see if it says the com ports 0 and 1 are both OK..
Try buildinga loopback plug with TX to RX, RX to TX, and Common to Common and see if hyperterminal (or other serial communications program works - there is also Loopback.VI in the NI library somewhere that can be used. Good Luck!! Dave -

CS 4 Dynamic Link to Encore doesn't work most of the time. Encore stops operating after opening and periodically Premier Pro stops working. I'm told that there has been a problem with CS4 when using Dynamic Link to go to Encore and build CD's. Is there a way around this? Is there a patch to correct it?

If DL is not working properly for you the way around this is to export from Premiere to either mpeg2-dvd for DVD or BluRay H.264 for BD-disks and import the files in Encore. -
Is anyone having problems with the battery drains quickly and the iphone4 heats up in use and in charging after upgrading to 5.1.1?
I have had the same problem but I seem to be getting somewhere to fixing it!!! My battery was going down at 20% an an hour now its 10% with constant use and 5 in standby !!! So improvement all round
First I did a restore then I drained the battery i started to charge it and when it came on I turned the phone off completely and let it charge to 100% I then left it for a couple of hours on charge at 100. I saw no improvement after 1st drain so I repeated the drain battery and charge steps again with the phone turned off when charging and have seen a very big improvement. I am going to do it again tonight and hopefully problem solved!!!!
The next issue is iMessage as that's playing up and wifi drop out

temperature control and watering system for greenhouse using labview and arduino

Go to Solution.Yes, it is possible to transfer files with the serial port using LabVIEW. Files are just collections of bytes and the serial port is pretty good at shipping bytes from one PC to another. You need to connect the serial ports together with a null modem cable.
First, take a look at the example for serial communication. In LabVIEW, go to the Help menu and select "Find Examples...". From there you can search for "serial" or navigate to Hardware Input and Output >> Serial. Select the "Basic Serial Write and Read.vi". Experiment with that example to gain confidence on the serial communication methods.
Next, it's time to learn about how to read and write files. For that, the examples could be somewhat confusing since they all deal with files that are presumed to have data of a specific type in them. I would recommend just getting familiar with the functions on the File I/O palette. Specifically, get to know the following functions.
Open/Create/Replace File - On your destination side, you'll need to create the copy of the file that you are trying to transfer
Close File - When you are finished reading from or writing to a file, you should close it. It cleans up the memory being used and finalizes any write operations that are still floating in the write buffer.
Read From Binary File - The best way to read from a file when you do not really care what type of file it is. In your case, you just want to get those bytes read and sent out so they can be written down at the destination.
Write to Binary File - At the destination side, this is what will store those bytes to the file you created with number 1.
Get File Size (under the Advanced File Functions sub-palette) - You need to know how big the file is so you know when you are finished.
OK, so once you are able to create files, write bytes to them, and read bytes from existing files you can move on to transferring.
The basic method I would suggest is to have the user specify a source file on the source PC and a destination folder on the destination PC. Then, find out the size of the source file using number 5. Divide that size number by the number of bytes you feel like transferring at once. The serial buffers are usually around 32k (if I remember correctly) so do not exceed that. Now begin sending data by reading some number of bytes and wiring that string output to the VISA Write function. On the destination side, you'll want to be monitoring the serial port for bytes and reading them when they arrive. Wire that string to the Write to Binary File function to add them to your destination file.
That is the basic outline of how to do it. You have to be careful not to overload the write and read buffers on the serial ports. Initially you can use delays on the sending side to make sure the reading side has enough time to digest. To get things moving faster, you can bring in some flow control.
If all that sounds a bit intimidating, there are Alliance Member companies out there (such as PrimeTest Automation) who can write such code for you and even provide a turnkey solution for you.
