Problems with some PDF files

Hi,
I have problems with some PDF files. After clicking on link to the file Safari shows me insted of normal document (which is working on Windows) hashes, numbers etc like it was a problem with coding or something. First I was using Preview, I though that maybe installing Acrobat Reader with plugins will solve the problem, but ofcourse it didn't. Did somebody has this same problem?

Back up all data.
Please triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
defaults delete -app Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Quit Safari. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing the key combination command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear below what you entered. You can then quit Terminal. Test.

  • Printing problem with some pdf files

This problem is with Windows 7 and XP.
When trying to print I receive the following error:
"The Document could not be printed.
There were no pages selected to print."
I tried the print image button and same error.
    This is Adobe Reader 10
I have also tried saving to different files and still same problem.
    Thanks

    Hi!
I've tested the issue again with Adobe Reader 10.1.4 on MS Windows XP Pro. SP3, MS Windows 7 Pro. SP1 32-bit and 64-bit with the following drivers:
    - HP Universal Printing PS package ver. 5.5.0.12834 (driver ver. 61.130.04.12834) for printing to HP LaserJet 4100 DTN (224 MiB of RAM) and HP Color LaserJet 4700dn (288 MiB of RAM)
    - Samsung Universal Print Driver PS ver. 2.03.09.00_41 for printing to Samsung ML-3051DN printer with 64 MiB of RAM
Printing of the sample 6-page PDF file (https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=ojv64pOBncq6XxtSiRqSkw) is still slow because the document stays long in the Windows print queue. Here are the test results:
    - printing with the HP UPD PS driver - 120 sec.
    - printing with the Samsung UPD PS driver - 220 sec.
When the same PDF file is printed in FoxitReader 5.4.4 the document stays in the print queue for only 15 sec.
Enabling the Print As Image option in the Reader's Advanced Print Setup can help to some degree (it gives better kB/sec. ratio but it increases the size of the print job).
I'd really appreciate it if developers at Adobe improved the Reader in order to solve the issue with the PS drivers.

  • Problem with printing pdf file

    hello,
lately i have problem with printing pdf file:
i click on the print button and the respod is very slow
it takes more than a minute till the print window apears.
i tryied to install version X but it's the same, the problem exist only when printing via adobe reader,
other programs i'd working much faster.

No, it is not set to overprint. Also, I have to add that the printing results were not consistent. Sometimes it covered and sometimes it did not.

  • Problem searching some PDF files in Acrobat Reader – Non-ASCII characters

Acrobat Reader cannot search some .pdf files.  I have put an example document up on Scribd here.
Any attempt to search for any word that can be clearly seen to be in the document fails with “No matches were found.”
This example document is NOT a scanned document – words and characters can be selected.
A hex display tool shows that the characters in a PDF document that can be successfully searched are in the ASCII/1252 range (A=0x41, etc).
Copying and pasting characters in the example document to a hex display tool shows that the characters in the document are not in the ASCII range.
    For example the letters A to Z in the example document are in the range ‘A’ = 0xDF (decimal 223), ‘B’ = 0xDE (decimal 222), through to ‘Z’ = 0xC6 (decimal 198).
However, characters in these non-ASCII ranges are displayed perfectly by Acrobat Reader, as can be see if the example document is opened.
Therefore, as Acrobat Reader knows what these characters are, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to say that it should be able to search for and find them.
Tests were performed using Acrobat Reader X v10.1.4.
Can anyone say what this problem is?

Hi Pat, thanks for your reply.
Your reference to the title of that page being 'HARNESSES' indicates that, when you view that document in Adobe Reader, you are seeing 'HARNESSES', not
"ØßÎÒÛÍÍÛÍ".  And that the remainder of the document is similarly being displayed in readable English language.
Yes as you say, you can search for 'ß' and get hits on 'A' (to use that as an example) in the example document.
But the need to form a word to be searched for into whatever code mapping this is using (for example having to enter "ØßÎÒÛÍÍ" for HARNESSES - I'm not even sure how that would be entered from a keyboard) doesn't seem to be very convenient.
Its clear the example document is using some code mapping other than ASCII / Windows-1252 (which has 'A' as 0x41).  But it is also clear that Adobe Reader knows what that mapping is, and knows to use it, as its displaying (for example) 'A' for the code 0xDF.
So I guess the question is - why isn't Adobe Reader's knowledge of this mapping being extended to its search input?

  • Problem with opening pdf files in Explorer

I'm trying to use a button to open a pdf file. It's always
worked in the past, but now I'm receiving an "object error" and the
pdf is not loading. Does anyone know if this is a problem with the
new version of Internet Explorer? Any work arounds?
    Here's my code:
    on (release) {
    getURL("NameofDoc.pdf", "_blank");
    }

    Hi,
    1. It's Adobe Reader XI, ver 11.0.08
I guess the version of the plug-in corresponds with the version of the reader itself?
    2. "Page cannot be displayed", mostly
Some say it takes a while for the (small) pdf to open, but we could no recreate this behavior yet.

  • Preview displays blank page with some pdf files but prints what is hidden

Some of my pdf files have started coming up as blank in Preview. There still is data underneath, which selecting areas will disclose as though you are scraping white out off the print.  Printing is unaffected, and only some files are affected.  Tried repairing permissions, but no luck.  I recently did the OS update, and didn't notice the problem before that.  I have restarted the computer a couple times,.  a few odd artifacts have shown up on the screen as well, though box selecting over these causes them to disappear.  I haven't been able to find any consistent difference in the pdfs that will display properly and the ones that won't.  doesn't appear to be associated with when they were created or  which version of software they were created with.  Saving them under a different name doesn't help.  Adobe reader works fine, so it is specific to Preview ( which I would rather keep as my default reader )
Any ideas what went wrong?  How to fix it?

I have no trouble viewing the file you posted in the same version of Preview that you have.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Problem with open PDF files

update I did, as you've mentioned, and now it works - let's say in 95%  When I receive an e-mail with PDF, I hit "save", and right away I cannot open the file. However, when I will go back to e-mails list, and wiev once again the same e-mail, I can see the PDF directly from the level of mail. Bit strange, however big improvement comparing to the former situation. Perhaps there is some kind of bug in stock e-mail app?

Hi, I have following problem with my Xperia Z3:- when I receive the e-mail with PDF as attachement, I can just save it, but cannot open it. It says: "you have no application installed, please install one.."- when I save the file, and open it from File Manager, I can easily open it with Acrobat, Foxit or any other. There's no problem- when I try to do the same directly from "Downloaded" apps, again I cannot open it As I receive some part of e-mails with PDF's, the best way would be to open them directly after saving from e-mail client. Saving them, and then going to File Manager to open makes it more complicated.  Do you know, what can be the problem here? It concern stock e-mail client, Android 5.0 Hope you may know some solution

  • Problems reading some pdf files in Playbook

    Hi
I have downloaded some PDF bus timetables and maps from the website of our local operator but found some problems in opening a few of the files -strange error messages or just grey screens
However I have just found that the app qPDF opens the "problem" files successfully
So maybe there is a problem with the Playbook version of Adobe or perhaps a problem with the latest OS...???
But anyway qPDF has got me to where I wanted to be
    Peter

I have had problems opening the same bus schedules Peter mentioned above. Most of the schedules on that companies routes open without problems with Adobe Reader.
I get an email notification of my cable bill. When I go to the website to open the Pdf bill, it only opens page 2 of the bill, page 1 is blank. Before the last update, my bill opened fully with Adobe Reader. I will be looking at qpgf

  • I have a problem with uploading pdf files. This was raised in April by Mariano and the solution given - but the link to the solution does not work. How do I get to the solution?

I have just come across this problem uploading pdf files on FF 3.6. Mariano posted this same problem on 5 Apr ( I found his post after a Google search as a search of this Forum gave no result). It is shown as "solved" but when I click on the Show Solution link it just loops back to the question.
How do I get to see the solution?

The following line tells me that this is not a template file, but a document created from a template called index.dwt
    <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><!-- InstanceBegin template="/Templates/index.dwt" codeOutsideHTMLIsLocked="false" -->
This means that you saved a child document as a template file at some stage.
If you go to Modify->Templates->Detach from Template, you can remove the template structure from your document. All you then need to do is to re-save the document as a template.

  • Problem with printing pdf file created from Illustrator

    Hello,
In a drawing I created with Illustrator 10.0.3 I covered part of a circle with a white rectangle (to make it disappear). I saved it as pdf. When printing the pdf (under Linux with a HP printer), the covered part reappeared. However the pdf-file is how it should be. Anybody knows what the problem is?

No, it is not set to overprint. Also, I have to add that the printing results were not consistent. Sometimes it covered and sometimes it did not.

  • Problem with saving pdf files to Mac

    Hi All
I'm having a problem with pdf files.  When I get sent a pdf fielder email I can open it with no problems but I cannot seem to save it successfully to my Mac. I've tried opening file and doing a 'save as', copy and pasting and dragging and dropping but I keep getting the following message
Adobe Reader could not open 'filename.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
Any ideas how I sort this out?

Can you use your email client's Save Attachments feature to save the file?

  • Does anyone have a problem with opening PDF files in iBook after updating the program recently

I need to try to open the pdf file a few times before it goes in iBook.
It is making me look like a fool cos I use iBook for my presentation to my clients

I'm presumably having a similar problem with pdf's in ibook.  It seemed to work fine until about two updates ago.  We're using ipad II's with ibook (latest version as of today) for our board of director's reports.  These are sometimes several hundred pages and password protected pdf's.  Now the more whiney members of the board are *******' at me, so I need to find a solution relatively quickly.  Is there a way to back off the updates?
    What it does.
When a PDF is chosen to open from the library, ibook open a "blank" file -- showing only the ibook background.
One can try closing and re-opening the PDF and after three or four times it'll open -- seems to be random.
These PDFs are created in Adobe Acrobat 9.

  • Problem with opening PDF files in Google Chrome browser

We have a web page displaying links to dynamically generated PDF files located on the internal repository. This files are not just text PDF files but PDF forms created using XFA technology. This means that they must be opened and filled only in Adobe Reader and not in Foxit Reader or browser's built-in PDF viewer.
Now, the problem is that a Google Chrome browser opens any PDF file using its own PDF viewer. And I want to force this browser to open PDF files in Adobe Reader.
How can I achieve this without disabling 'Chrome PDF Viewer' plugin since I can't do this for all users of our web site?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
    P.S. We use LiveCycle ES3.

Each user would have to set each browser individually.
Note: I don't think it's possible to set the default PDF viewer with code for every user who visits the site.
See the following link to enable Adobe Reader as the default PDF viewer in different browsers:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html
Note: Not all PDF viewer browser plug-ins support PDF submissions, and most 3rd party viewers may not support forms created with LiveCycle or forms with Extended Reader Rights enabled.

  • Problem opening some PDF files in Adobe Acrobat

I have several PDF files that cannot be open in Adobe Acrobat.  I have the message as shown below:
There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.
But I first discovered the problem in Adobe Reader: the files cannot be open in neither Adobe Reader 9, X nor XI, in Win7 64-bit as well as Windows Server 2008 R2.  The original post in Adobe Reader forum is in this link: http://forums.adobe.com/message/6163936
BUT the files are NOT damaged because I can open them with another software called XChange PDF Viewer.
Where can I file a bug to Adobe so they can fix the bug?
    Thanks in advance.

The Acrobat Family complies with the ISO standard for parsing PDF files, and it will reject files that contain unrecoverable errors. Third-party applications may decide to ignore the errors or display the corrupted content anyway, but that's their decision.
