Problems with sound when closing the lid (MBP and Yosemite)

Hi
i have a MBP and Yosemite.
Before the update i could close the lid when watching movies on the mac and connecting to HDMI to my TV and the sound and images worked OK ( i uses insomnia X for being able to close the lid)
After the update, when i close the lid the images works but the sound doesn't come out from the TV but from the mac.
it was working before and not anymore.. anybody knows what this ca be?
thanks

First time around, they gave me an apple tv for the inconvenience........ I will keep you guys posted once I find out more from the Apple Store.
Free Apple TV eh? Thats rather outstanding for a creaking on the plastic hinge cover.
Nice video, the "old door" sound of soft creaking plastic.    Thats not the (2 of them) hinge sound, which (ive only heard one make the noise, on an old air) is a 'grrr' sound of the alloy creating a rubbing noise.
Yes, find out what the Apple store says.  Pretty obviously the plastic hinge cover, which does nothing, is cosmetic and doesnt affect anything.
There could be a crack in the hinge cover I cant see that obviously. Another option is the cover isnt snapped into place correctly.
I wouldnt worry about it, its ultimately nothing, but youll get it serviced and fixed when you get to Apple.
Im shocked they just outright gave you a free AppleTV, thats a great 'deal' (meaning free), and top notch from Apple
heres the hinge cover pic:

Some progess I see. To be honest, i would not waste your time with trying to connect using wireless.
You are likely to get poor connections and dropping out.
If its working using a cable, then there is no need to bother with giving me the network settings, bu see how it goes, because sometimes giving the TV a static IP address can give better results.
There is an example of a couple of powerline adapters on the diagram below. Just ignore the network switch unless you want to connect other devices which are near to the TV.

  • We recently purchased the iphone5 (2) and are having problems with sound coming thru the earbuds when we plug them in to the iphones.  works fine with the ipad.  help please

recently purchased the iphone5 (2 of them) and are having problems with the earpods.  no sound when plugged in to the iphone.  both phones.  works with the ipad.  help please

    Hi P5052,
Welcome to the Support Communities ... and congratulations on the purchase of your iPhone 5's!
It is very unusual that neither phone is working with the new earpods.
Have you tried a different headphone just to see if the issue is with the earpods or the iPhones?
The article below will give you the basic troubleshooting steps for this issue.
Click on the link below to see more details and screenshots.
I've quoted some helpful highlights for you:
iPhone: Can't hear through the receiver or speakers
    Symptoms
When someone calls, I can't hear them through the receiver or speaker phone, and I can't hear music through the speaker. I also can't be heard by someone who is calling me.
Note: iPhone has one speaker, which is adjacent to the dock connector. On iPhone 4 or later models, the speaker is to the right of the dock connector. On earlier iPhone models, the speaker is to the left of the dock connector.
    Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (chooseSettings > General > Bluetooth).
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.
If the issue persists, go to the Service Answer Center - iPhone for information on service.
    Hope this helps!
    - Judy

  • MBP C2D Restarting when closing the lid

Every once in a while when I close the lid on my MBP, the computer restarts. When I open the lid it finishes the restart process and runs normally. Any ideas why this would all of a sudden start happening??

Wait for the light on the release button to start blinking before moving the laptop. The sudden motion sensor can act up as you move the laptop when it's still in the process of 'falling asleep'.

  • Tecra M7 : new bios shutdowns the digitizer when closing the lid.

it took me a moment to find the problem : power saving ? attacking wacom ? no. some very stupid "feature" in the new bios from Toshiba.
quote from the toshiba download site:
    *Version 1.70 - 2006-10-24*
*Incorporated Intel requirements for improved stability.*
**Made changes to ensure that the digitizer is not activated when the LCD is closed.**
    *Version 1.60 - 2006-09-21*
    *Changed the temperature parameters.*
i have no idea what they were thinking but since when i move i often close the lid, it's very, very annoying because i need to reboot in order to get my tablet working again. the more recent features are not a matter, i'll keep xp pro.
now give me a download link to get the version 1.6 of the tecra M7 bios. thanks in advance, i count on you.

    Hello
Fact is that Toshiba offers all tablet PCs with WXP tablet edition and many additional software that offer full functionality when you use this tablet PC in tablet or normal mode.
So, in my opinion you should use tablet edition and install all available Toshiba tools and utilities.
I dont have much experience with tablet PCs but if you check Toshiba Europe support and download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Download you will see that your Tecra is fully supported for WXP tablet edition and you can download all necessary stuff.
Interesting is that there is also ready for download Installation instruction document with exact installation order.
You can also visit Canadian download page under http://209.167.114.38/support/Download/ln_bymodel.asp and see what is available there.
I really think you need to install all Toshiba specific tools and utilities to have full control and possibility to use it in both modes.
Sorry I cannot tell you more about all this.

  • Screen not turning off when closing the lid

I have Windows 7 64-bit installed on my MacBook Air 13.3" as the only OS.
Everything is working great with the bootcamp drivers except that when I close the lid the screen does not turn off. I don't want to turn off the notebook but only want the screen to turn off when the lid is down. I have looked a lot for a solution and am not able to find anything which can solve this problem.
There is nothing in the power options that can be done. Bootcamp is supposed to recognize this by itself, but unfortunately it doesn't.
Does anyone know a work around for this?
    Thank you

That is correct. I have noticed the same thing. Windows 7 gives better battery life on MacBook Air then Mac OSX.
I went to talk to a Genius about this, pretty useless, told me to wait for an update. It has been half a year but no update yet. This is the only problem with the Bootcamp drivers I have experienced. I have managed to live with it, but is still pretty annoying. I always once in a while think about finding a way to fix it, but there is nothing that can fix this problem. Unless someone at Apple sees and listens to what is going on in the online fourms and fix the problem.

  • Problems with sound when I embed multiple videos on auto play into a composition widget.

I am having problems with the sound when I embed multiple videos on autoplay into a composition widget in Muse. It sounds as if they are all playing at once. Note that within the compostion widget, options - the auto play is disabeled.
I've a television set that has buttons below and I want the users to flick through the channels.
I need the oriantaion to be stacked as they're contained within a frame (the tv). I have tried the lightbox view (which at first seamed to solve the problem), but unfortunately the position, orientation moves when shown on different divises. It Had to be quite precise as I was ovelaying the original frame within the light box.
Could you please help me with this?
Also, I wanted to let you know that I think this software is amazing. Great job!

  • Problems with sound when Boom v 1.5 is on.

When I updated boom to v 1.5 for mountain lion, there would be no sound on my computer. I can fix this by going into system preferences -> sounds and select the internal speakers and this would solve the problem, but after some time goes by, the sound is gone again and I would have to repeat those steps again to make it work. I know this is a boom problem because when I uninstall boom my sound always works. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Jerry,
I think it is a Boom issue.
I've had it occasionally myself, though I can't really figure out what circumstances cause it.
I think for now the System Preferences>Sound workaround is the best solution.

  • Problems with sound when upgrading to 3.1.2.

    Hi
I have a 2nd Gen iPod Touch and I have just upgraded from 3.0 to 3.1.2. Everything has gone smoothly, but I now have no sounds coming from the iPod. I have reloaded the firmware upgrade and I still have no sound. I have also played with the sound settings (volume lock, sound check) with no luck.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I've just tried upgrading to 3.1.3. and I still have no sound coming from the iPod. Has anyone found a solution to this yet? It's getting quite annoying that I have to downgrade my iPod to 3.0 each time to gain sound and even more annoying not being able to contact Apple over this matter.

  • My iPod 5 screen is black the camera will make the clicking sound when pushing the home button and sleep button at the same time but the s teen stays black !! I hope someone can help

I have an iPod 5.  The screen is black, I tried charging it.  It makes a bing when I plug it in so power is going to it.  When I hold the sleep button and home button to use the camera it takes a pic although the screen stays black the sound is there.  I hope someone can help me !!!

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Having trouble with sound when streaming videos on Netflix and Hulu

When I watch videos on Hulu or Netflix my audio is very bad (as well as my video). It stops and starts and has a horrible robotic background sound, like a speaker is blown (though I know that's not the case because the sound is the same through my TV when connected via HDMI cord). My audio and video files are all up to date... What can I do??

     HI @MKC2287
    Thank you for your response.
To try and rule out hardware as the issue here is a link to Testing for Hardware Failures (Windows 7)
Have you checked for viruses and malware? Malicious Software Removal Tool
You can try this step to try and find and repair corrupt files.
Go to the command prompt and right click and run as administrator
Type sfc /scannow and press enter.
You mentioned that it is generating a lot of heat so here is a link to Reducing heat inside the PC to prevent overheating
If the issue remains, you can try installing the original driver using the recovery manager
Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7)
The next suggestion would be to do a full recovery back to factory.
Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7)
During the recovery there is an option to  backup  your personal files to prevent data loss. If you have not done one recently I suggest you do one now.
Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 7)
Once this step has been completed, please run the HP support assistant to obtain any HP updates.

  • Video Playback Problem with Developer Walkthrough of the Continuous Measurement and Logging Sample Project

    Hi!
I have serious problems playing the video Developer Walkthrough of the Continuous Measurement and Logging Sample Project.
As the video pauses every few seconds for buffering. I am not able to watch it. Just wanted to check if you can playback the video:
    http://zone.ni.com/wv/app/doc/p/id/wv-3401
This happens on any browser (chrome, ie, firefox). I am using Win XP and the latest Adobe Flash Player. About 2 weeks ago NI Germany confirmed the problem and promised to contact NI USA as they are responsible for these videos. So far nothing happened. In the meantime I received an e-mail that the problem could not be confirmed although they had confirmed it before...
    Thank you for any feedback.
    Regards,
    Anguel

  • My MBP freezes when closing the lid.

Problem started after I installed Lion.

Sorry, I didn't have any answer. But I did'nt have this problem for a while now. I have to say too, because maybe the problem is there for me, that my machine's motherboard have some issues and I'm working with an external hard drive in the USB port. I'm waiting for a new motherboard from Apple. Maybe my problems are caused by the motherboard.

  • Problems with sound, when connected to soundsystem

    Hello everyone!
I have problems when my iMac 24" is connected to my soundsystem and plasma TV. The sound comes out perfect from the iMac's jack port, but along with the sound (from a movie or song etc) is a VERY annoying wholing sound.
I have narrowed the source of this wholing sound; it comes from the iMac (although i do not know which part). When I put my ear very close to the iMac I can here the exact same wholing sound; so my soundsystem is (of course) increasing the sound, along with this wholing sound.
My question: is there a way to remove this unwanted wholing sound? I hope there is a way - thanks!

Ignoring what the sound sounds like at th moment, I'm confused.  Are you saying  you think the sound is coming from the machine, but not not its internal speakers, and only when you have the sound system plugged in?
And I don't understand the phrase "it's like the Jack stick is too sensitive or something".
The only moving parts in a imac are its fan and hard drive.  Initially I was going to say I think it is the hard drive when you said "very high-pitched".  But then you added the rest of that post.
I doubt now it's the hard drive since you say you only hear the sound with the sound system plugged in, but just in case, here's a link to a bunch of hard drive sounds.  See if any of those match what you are hearing.
I guess another theory is that with the sound system plugged in the fan revs up.  Not sure why it would do that though since the machine should really not have any additional load simply because you are using the line out jack.  I thought I would mention it anyhow because I am running out of ideas.
