Problems with the mini DVI to VGA connection

Hi I have a macbook, when I connect to the projector the screen is unconfigured and not projected properly keynote presentations. I Probed change the cable adapter mini dvi to vga but the result is the same.

Hi Robert, I cannot answer for you, as I have the same problem, which only came to light yesterday.
The same problem is discussed in the MacBook Pro community and none of the solutions there has solved the problem for me.  Maybe one of them will for you.  The link to this other set of problems is:

My macbook pro no longer connects to my TV with the mini dvi to hdmi adapter. A while ago the computer fell down and hit the cable. How can I tell if the computer is working ok. Doesn't show mirroring any more. Was working while watching a movie but when I pulled it out from the computer and put it back in the system would no longer mirrorr the screen on the TV.

The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The evaluation will be for FREE!

My Macbook pro no longer outputs to my vizio led tv. It was working fine now I cant get any picture. It just says no signal. It is not the hdmi or the adapter because it works fine with my other tv. Any ideas on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Please be as specific as possible. Thanks. BTW--I am using the mini dvi to hdmi adapter in case that was unclear.

Since you say that the same connectors work on your other TV is suggests that the fault is not in the connectors but your Vizio TV.  I would check the settings on the Vizio TV.  Verify that is is set to receive HDMI input.  Perhaps you or some one else has inadvertently changed them.  Pressing the wrong buttons on a remote control device can do that.  (I am assuming no changes were made in SYSTEM PREFERENCES>DISPLAYS)
    Ciao.

  • Problems after trying mini dvi-to-vga

I plugged in my mini DVI-to-VGA and it worked for a minute. Then I bumped the adapter out of my MacBook and now it does not work. I can get an image on my tv, but it's only of my wallpaper, no matter what I'm viewing.
The bigger problem I have is that my MacBook screen is now magnified. I've tried playing with the display settings, and have confirmed that my zoom is turned off. Now that I think about it, I'm thinking this was caused by viewing a Netflix streaming movie on full screen. Maybe?
I don't know if these two issues are related or not but they started at exactly the same time. Help?

  • Aduio problems with the mini!  help!

I have serious audio problems with my Mini right now -- Please Help!
When I play iTunes, iPod, etc. I hear very bad static, and start and stops; like its an audio feed from the radio, a scratchy audo feed, that pauses.
At first i thought it was the old speakers that i run through the old display; but I plugged in Bose headphones to the mini itself and got the same bad, sound. this just started, can anybody help? thanks.

Check your Audio/MIDI Setup, making sure that your audio out settings are for 44.100khz, 2ch-16bit. I've seen some apps that arbitrarily change it to 1ch-8bit, which can cause the poor sound you're describing.

  • Problems with the FM Radio after USB connection

I've been searching around for anyone else having this issue and I though I would ask before I sent my N97 phone in for repair.
Does anyone have or seen a problem with the FM radio loosing all its frequencies after it has been plugged into the USB charger? Everytime my phone is charged, my radio plays nothing by static. The radio stations are still there, but nothing but static can be heard. I have to reboot my phone to get it working. Since I listen to the radio everyday (the reason I got this phone and my n95) I am constantly rebooting this bloody thing.
Also, I have a problem rebooting my phone. Sometimes it just won't enable the buttons after the phone has been locked. The side toggle switch doesn't work, and when I touch the screen it says to unlock it. So I'm forced to remove the battery to reboot it. It doesn't happen all the time, happens about 30% of the time.
Please if anyone can help? I really don't want to send my phone in for repair.

    Hello,
Try to remove the n97 battery and keep the "on" button pressed for a few seconds. Then reinsert the battery and turn the phone on. That should get rid of all the accumulated static electricity on the phone. As for your other problem, the only thing I can think of is reinstalling your current firmware and resetting your phone.

  • Problem with iMac mini DVI output to TV via VGA

    Hi
I've searched these forums and Googled but haven't found the answer to this problem!
Basically, I'm trying and so far failing to connect an iMac that I bought in mid 2007 (v 5.1, OS X 10.6.5) to a new HD TV (Sony KDL-32EX403). I'm using a Mini DIV to VGA adaptor from the iMac with a VGA cable that goes into the 'PC' input round the back of the TV. When I try and select the 'PC' function from the inputs menu on the TV, the icon is greyed out.
No matter what I try - turning mirroring on and off, changing resolution, unplugging, restarting - it makes no difference. Weirdly the display menu does acknowledge that the Mac is connected to a Sony TV and gives a list of resolutions to choose from.
However... when I tried connecting my PC notebook using the straight VGA cable (output on the PC, input to the TV) the image appears fine. So I took the cable out of the PC, screwed on the VGA-DVI adaptor and plugged it back into the Mac and it worked! However when I switched back to TV mode I could not switch back to PC input, the icon was once again greyed out.
    Sigh...
I see no reason why this doesn't work without this awkward workaround so if anyone can help or has had a similar problem please shout!
    Thanks

I have my Macbook (early 2008) hooked up to a 19-inch TV I use as a second desktop. You won't find any cords that go straight from mini-DVI to HMDI, and even if you do I wouldn't recommend them. You'll have to get an adapter cable that goes from mini-DVI to DVI and then get a DVI to HDMI cable. I got the Apple-made adapter (about $20) even though it's more expensive because apparently third party ones can have problems. You can get a DVI to HDMI cable anywhere, they can run expensive but I got one off Amazon for less than $10.
That connection is video only so yes, you'd need a different connection for sound. As to how you hook the sound up, it depends on what you want to use for sound. If you want the sound to come from the TV speakers then you'd have to use a different cord than if you wanted to hook it up to a sound system. If you let me know I can explain what you'd need to do for that. Hope this helped

  • Problem with apple mini dvi to video adapter cable

I recently bought an apple mini dvi to video adapter cable and all that it would display on my television screen was black and white colors. The quality of the screen seemed to be okay but it was hard to tell since i did not have any color. Is there something that i can do to fix this problem

Your probably not doing anything wrong. There are thousands of users with Similar issues and it seems to be with many different adapters.
We have Mini DP to VGA (3 different brands) and they all fail most of the time. This seems more prevalent with LCD Projectors. I've tested some (50+) with VGA Monitor (HP) and they all worked, LCD Projector (Epson, Hitachi, and Sanyo) and they all fail, DLP Projector (Sanyo) and one worked.
My Apple Mini DP to DVi works most of the time. My Mini DP to HDMI (Generic non Apple) works every time.
The general consensus is that Apple broke something in the OS around 10.6.4 or 10.6.5 and its not yet fixed. As we are a school we have logged a case with the EDU Support group so will see what happens.

  • How to connect Macbook pro to a projector with the Mini Display to VGA adapter?

When I connect them nothings happens, the display has a blue screenshot for a few seconds and then get back to the normal view of my desktop. It's the same if I digit "cmd+F2"... Please help me.

The default method for adding a second display is called Mirroring. It uses a lowest-common-denominator approach to choosing display resolution, and often guesses wrong.
System preferences > Displays > ( Arrange) and drag the superimposed representations of the two displays away from each other to invoke "Extended desktop" instead. Then you should be able to set the resolution for the projector to a more reasonable one, and your picture should appear.

There isn't much we can do to help.  Without seeing any code, we can't even hazard wild guesses as to what your program is doing and why it isn't working the way you expect.

  • Help! Syncmaster 1100 blurry when connected to Imac with Mini DVI to Vga

    Hi,
I recently tried to use my Samsung SyncMaster 1100 (21") as a secondary display But when I connect it with the mini dvi to vga adapter to my imac the image looks blurry. Is there some compatibility isue with syncmaster 1100?
Please Help!, I tryed the imac with a different secondary monitor and it works fine. I tested my syncmaster with another pc and it works fine. I don't know what else to do.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Josh,
To start, it is considered extremely impolite to type in all capital letters as you have done. Please use all lower case, or preferably properly capitalised text, in future.
With regards to the problem you're having.. the reason you only see the desktop background is due to screen spanning. If you want the external display to display the same thing as the internal display, go to the displays system preferences pane, and check the box that says "Mirroring"
The color problem is probably due to a loose connection somewhere, either between the iMac and its adaptor, the adaptor and the cable to the projector, or between the projector and the cable plugging into it. If you're still having problems, try different adaptor cables, or try plugging it into a different monitor to try to work out which one is causing a problem.
    Good luck

  • Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter Problems in Boot Camp / Windows

I currently run Windows XP SP2 on my MacBook and recently purchased the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter so I could hook up the MacBook to an external projector, monitor, or TV to display what's on my Windows screen on the external device. However, when I connect it to any external device, it just goes nuts and sporadically continues to make the hardware connect and hardware disconnect sounds and doesn't allow for external output of the screen. Any suggestions...? Thanks!
    Marc

I think I solved this problem.
It was in issue for me. My second monitor would only display the Windows XP screen when it was loading, then it would black out. I couldn't even move my mouse arrow to the other side. Then I fixed it, here's how (running Windows XP SP3):
    1. Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes
    2. Display
    3. Go to tab "settings"
    4. Double click the blue image with the "2" inside it. This is the second monitor, adjacent to your first, or primary, monitor. The blue box may be a desaturated, greyish blue, meaning that the monitor is disabled. Click it and it a box will pop up asking if you want to enable the monitor. Click OK, and then like magic, your monitor is resurected in it's Windows Glory! From there, adjust the resolution, and it should work perfectly.
This isn't a Boot Camp compatability issue, it's just a problem with the lack of familiarity that users of OS X have with using XP.
    Have a nice day!

  • Mini DVI to VGA problem

    Hello,
I just recently bought the mini DVI to VGA adaptor for my new MacBook because I wanted to use my laptop as a dvd player and plug it into the TV in my room. The TV is a Samsung LCD ln S1951W, when I plug it in the computer detects the display but the TV still flashes the no signal thingie. I've tried it with a proyector and it works fine. It's not the vga-vga cable because it works fine when i connect my iBook. Could anyone help me fix this problem please?

If you are just using it for that specific screen (just for the moment use a workaround). I have the same screen.
Download SwitchResX and make the following setup under "Custom" 1360x 768 at 60Hz. Restart for the settings to be available. It should solve the flashing problem for this specific screen.
If you don´t want to pay for SwitchResX, just check that the new resolution settings are available in the normal mac display options (which they should) and unistall it... the settings will be stored and you can use them indefinitely.
Wait, just re-read your post, you are not getting any signal at all? Then I have no clue if this will solve it. Try it anyways.
    Cheers.

  • Samsung P400 Projector not working with mini-DVI to VGA

I've never had so many hardware problems with a computer before... sigh.
Why they labeled a 100-240v 50/60Hz power supply with a sticker that says 100-120V 60Hz is beyond me (Sony did the same with their original US PS3s but that's another tale). Anyways, here's my issue.
I just bought the new 2009 Mac Mini along with a Samsung P400 Projector. This is one of those new pocket type with the LED bulbs.
The Samsung P400 has a native resolution of 800x600 60Hz and can accept analog composite or VGA video signals.
So, in my blind belief that Apple would sell me the correct adapter to go from mini-DVI to VGA, I went and I purchased said adapter. And lo and behold, it doesn't work.
Now, I'm a computer guy, I've built my own systems. I know the difference between analog and digital, DVI-I and DVI-D, etc. So, when I read the specs on my merchandise and they all use the same connection labels DVI, mini-DVI, VGA, etc. it really irks me to find that they are all incompatible with each other. I don't understand how this is supposed to help the customer. It's ridiculous. Apple is supposed to be user friendly but this is downright evil.
But, I've invested over a thousand dollars in this venture and I want it to work. *SO, before I go and run out and spend another $30 on a mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter, can anyone tell me if it will work with my projector????*

    Thanks for your help.
But I had just figured out a solution today. I guessed that the resolution wasn't holding when I switched monitors so I went and picked up a mini-DisplayPort adapter to run the monitor along side the projector at the same. This way I could see what was going on.
Turns out that projector was automatically being set to 1600x1200. I changed the resolution to a lower one and it was fixed. Of course, when I tried to switch back to the mini-DVI to VGA adapter, OS X forgot the settings again and I had to redo everything.
I'll try your solution as well but for now, I think I am okay. I will just use the mini-DisplayPort to VGA and not unplug the projector unless I really have to.
I'll test your solution just in case I need to reset the resolution again.
    Thanks once again!!!

  • Mini-DVI to VGA flicker with Snow Leopard and 2nd monitor

I have a 24" iMac (fall 2007) and recently purchased a 26" Vizio (VMM26F10I) and connected it as a 2bd monitor for my iMac using the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter Apple sells.
The new monitor will flicker now and then and some times will go to no signal. I have to change resolutions to something else and then back to standard setting to get it to come back or unplug adapter and plug back in.
Is there a fix for this?

26" VGA...? Which resolution/frequency? Have you tried a fresh cable with clean connectors, etc....
What did Vizio say when you contacted them with this question about your new purchase?
