Problems with transparency/opacity

I made an opaque rectangular object transparent, at 40. After I later reopened the file, the transparency slider for that object is now at 100, although it is still the lightened/transparent shade. Is there a way to recover the original opaque color? In other words-- the color before I made it 40% transparent. I'm at a complete loss. I tried experimenting with swatches, but can't recapture the right tint. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you so much in advance.

Select the object and open the Appearance panel. Opacity can be added at any one of several levels as shown below

or you can use this to clear the color entirely

Importing .gif file into Pages - problem with transparency

Hi Apple Forum,
First-timer (on the forum) here. I tried importing a .gif image (with alpha channel) into a pages document. The image was imported, but it's not transparent. In other words, the alpha channel isn't working. The problem is NOT with the opacity button, in case some one wants to suggest that as a solution. Has anyone had this issue before?

Problems with transparent objects InDesign CS5.5

Hi, I have troubles with using transparent objects in InDesign CS5.5 (Win7):
If there is a transparent object in the background, is problem to move with another objects over this area. The object moving over the area with transparency "erases" objects below: texts, boxes.... They are not in fact erased, this effect tooks only for the moment of movement and little bit longer. I have to wait for a while and after it is ok, but the work is slower and software is not working fast as I was got used in older versions.
This trouble is not a problem of my computer (I have a new one with 16GB RAM, i5 processor), the same trouble with the same InDesign is on my laptop.
Updates of InDesign are automatically installed.
Can you give me some advice?

Yes, exactly, looks like glitch in the video. After I stop moving with object, everything is ok again. But not immidiatelly, there is a little delay (1 or 2 seconds). It doesn´t demage my work, it´s only glitch effect. But it delay me in work, it´s not pleasant to work with this glitch effects

Problem with transparent image

Hi everyone,
I'm having problem with embedding transparent image to PDF. Thin border appears when viewing the document with Adobe Reader, Adobe Acrobat Pro and even with Foxit Reader. But there are no such border in the image.
After some experiments I found that this border appears on the edge of fully transparent black and fully opaque white areas. And changing fully transparent black color to fully transparent white removes the border.
Is this an expected behaviour of Adobe Reader or is it a bug? Could anyone explain in which other cases such artifacts may appear?

It is related to the source from which PDF document is generated. Anyway if writing the image as is without pattern the problem still remains.

Problems with transparency settings

Hello everyone
I'm having some problems with the transparency settings of my u3d model when I import it in a new Acrobat sheet. I defined an animation with some transparencies in 3D Toolkit and when I import the whole animation into Acrobat 3D the transparency settings disappear, the whole model can be seen. Any ideas why?

Problem with chart opacity

When I use an image to color a chart (ex. istogram with a jpg texture) and then I change the opacity (ex. 20%) of the chart, knote 4.01 doesn't recognize the value of the opacity and show the istogram in presentation with a opacity of 100%.
Can someone help me?

Try resetting the brush tool and also check in the brush settings and make sure Keep these settings for all brushes is not checked.

Problem with transparancy and buttons

Hello
i have a strange behavior with buttons which shall be transparent.
On a JInternalFrame i placed several JPanels. Each JPanel and the JInternalFrame have opaque set to false, as does the contentPanel of the JInternalFrame. On one of these JPanels (does not mater which) has rows of several buttons. These Buttons shall be semi transparent, so i set their opaque to true and their back color to 238,238,238,207, which should let them be gray with a little bit of the background.
My problem is, that when i move the mouse over them that sometimes the content of a whole different screen location is painted inside the button, or the button gets the content of its neighbor. The Background is than not visible anymore.
Also, when i press the buttons, they turn light blue and are not transparent anymore.
Does anyone of you have an idea what i have to do differently?
I am using Java 1.5.0_08

@Kwun Tong – make the controlling buttons part of every state of the MSO.
So you could alter the color of "normal" state and "click" state of each of the buttons in every state of the MSO as you wish.

Problems with transparency in interactive PDFs

Hi, I am creating a 40pp document in InDesign CS6. The document is created as CMYK and will be issued as a printed piece but also there is an interactive version. For revision control purposes, I have created one document for both purposes, and have created the interactivity (internal navigation as well as hyperlinks to external URLs). The interactive buttons are on a separate layer so that layer can be suppressed when output for press.
The printed piece exports just fine using Pass4Press settings.
However, when I export as an interactive PDF, I find that each page seems to render differently, despite being based on the same master page items.
I have tried everything – changing the transparency blend space from RGB to CMYK (and vice versa).
This is causing me a real headache as my client won't accept this and I have tried pretty much everything. There is very little to adjust in the interactive PDF settings.
The document has a photographic strip along the top of each page (master item). On top of this are coloured blocks with text in them with the name of each section. The blocks are set to "colour" mode, (except when that is the current section, when they become "normal"). This is all done on the master, yet each page renders differently despite it being the same master with no page over-rides on the items in question.
I tried exporting back to .IDML and using the export functions of CS4 and CS5.5. This solved the transparency issue, but caused a whole range of other problems such as text reflow, shifting images and incorrectly assigned button actions/bookmarks, so the problem would seem to be the CS6 interactive PDF transparency handling. Using an earlier version of InDesign clearly isn't a solution.

Hi, and thanks for your help. That would be a bit of a faff, as I have set the whole doc up for export as a Pass4Press compliant document for professional print. However, the client also wants a navigable PDF created from the same doc. Because of the length of the document, I don't want to have two source docs, as that would be a revision control nightmare.
However, I've been playing around with the master pages, as it is items from the masters that are being rendered inconsistently. It seems odd that one master can be rendered differently on various non-overridden pages.
Guess what? I just tried disassociating the items from the masters (Override All Master Page Items) and tried again. Now, although I now have lost the benefit of using master pages, it does actually render properly and consistently now! Go figure. Must be one of those freaky little bugs. It would be cool if this could be fixed, but at least overriding masters seems to be a workaround.
Hopefully, my document is approved, and I can export the final Press PDF, save the doc, Override All Master Page Items, export the interactive PDF and not save with the disassociated masters…

Problem with Transparency using PixelGrabbar.

Well, im having a problem.
Im creating a basic 2d game and using images, since im using alot of images and they are being drawn alot i use a class i call "GameSprite", basically it retrieves the file needed and then keeps it in a pixel array, but transparency dosn't seem to work with it. The reason im using this is because say i have 100 images to draw, it dosn't need to keep using the drawImage method because it draws all at once using a set drawing area on which the pixel arrays are possitioned, for example this is the drawing;

drawingAreaImage = component.createImage(this);Note that images created through this method are often times immutable. They will not respond to changes in the underlying ImageProducer. So "drawingAreaImage" is essentially a snapshot of whatever pixels "this" gave it.
An exception to this rule is if you use MemoryImageSource and set the animated flag,

drawingAreaImage = component.createImage(imageProducer);This time, whenever pixels is modified you can call imageProducer.newPixels() and the image will be updated.
On a side note, you are using a very old method of dealing with images (over a decade old since java 1.0 and 1.1). Are you doing this for compatability purposes? I would recommend you drop the ImageProducer/Consumer model entirely and stick with BufferedImages (which as been around since 1.2 and was the "upgrade" from the ImageProducer/Consumer model).

Since installing 10.6.4 problem with transparent Dock icons

Hi there;
I installed the Mac OS X 10.6.4 update via Software Update on three Macs. So far, so good on two of them. On my MacBook Pro, 10.6.4 is running fine except for a small but annoying problem. Some of the icons in the Dock are transparent now. The icons for Mail and Safari are transparent. If I drag those icons off the Dock and replace them with new icons, the new icons remain solid for a few minutes, then go transparent again.
Has anyone else noticed that problem and if so, have you found a way to fix it?

recently i have big problem in export Transparent videos ...
when i try to export this type of video's , after effect can not export them Correctly and Transparent background rendered as black solid ...
i do every thing that you think ... there is no problem in render option .. alpha chanel rendered with mov video (As export setting)
i changed the video format from mov to pnj image sequnce and problem temporarily solved ...
but when i try to render a project with proxy's , problem coming back again ....
so here my question ... what is that problem and how can i fix it?

Problem with Transparency of the Curtains transition

I have been fiddling in FCPX for hours and still don't undertsand a word.
I added the curtains as a transition between two parts of my movie, but it does not work, first the curtains have no transparent background, so I can see a black screen for a second (even if my fixed background is displayed) a,d then a nightmare when I export the project, the curtains keeps jumping from the beginning of the clip even if it should start after. The funny thing is I don't get the same bad results any time I export the project. what's wrong? no clue!

yep but the curtains effect can be put into 2 clips, the things is, I decided to remove the transition (fed up) but, and you must see it to believe it, I still get the curtains jumping after exporting H264, yes, I removed the curtains and still got them!!!!! I fixed the problem by using another setting to export the project, but it is still beyond understanding.

Problem with Transparent Background

Something happened and now when I go to edit a photo, something weird is happening.
If you notice the border of the overlapped... thats how the work area in CS4 should look but its not. I dont know whats wrong.

I think you confused me. I thought you were having an issue with the photoshop border.
Now it sounds like you are having an issue with the document it self.
Should I assume you are talking about a new blank document?
If so, when you create a new document the pop up window will let you specify a background color such as white or a transparent background.
After the document has been created and you have a white background. Select the layer in the layers palette and double click on it and click OK. This will unlock that layer. Now you can use any of the selection methods or go to the menu and select>select all. You should see a dotted line around the outside edge of the document, this tells you the entire document is selected. Just hit the delete key and the white background will be replaced with the transparent background.

CS4 Output problems with transparency

I have a gradient in InDesign that gets garbled when I output it on the proofer. It looks like this:
The gradient is a process color (Pantone 542)
My export settings are:
PDFx/1a:2001, Acrobat 4 compatible
Transparency flattener: high resolution
Output color: convert to Document CMYK - US Web Coated SWOP v2
The proofer is an Epson 7800 using SP7898 SWOP
I tried making it compatible with Acrobat 5 in include transparencies, but got the same result.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find anything online.

Oh really? Not that it makes a difference in this case, I think, but 542 is a spot number. Are you using the solid-to-process library or ink manager to convert?

What is the file going to be used for? For web png will give you translucence. For print you can use psd or tiff.
