Problems with usb / sd removable devices (not/badly copying)

Hi everybody
the problem is when I plug an usb stick or a SD card, all with FAT32 fs, GNOME (I use gnome-shell) asks me if I want to mount and open the device.
so, it loads properly and when it's open I can do all the things you are supposed to do with them.
The issue first appaired when I copied some pics to an SD card. It appaired the progress bar saying it completed the copy process.
So I umounted the device and removed it. Some other people said that actually there weren't any files in the SD card.
Supposing it was bad/corrupted fs I formatted the card and put back the images there. Same issue. I was starting to think the SD card was damaged
until I had the same problem while copying music to my phone (via USB cable).
I noticed it created all the files but didn't store any actual data (e.g. size of files was always 0 byte) or even didn't do anything (neither created the file) sometimes.
Searching the web I found that it wasn't syncing - so they told me to do the sync command on the shell - nothing solved.
So as I read on the wiki [fstab], I mounted the devices with options "sync,flush", which in fact solved the problem.
[Actually I later found that it works even without the flush option, just with the sync option]
Doing so I solved the problem and could copy all the data to the devices.
What I want to know is: how can I say to GNOME (or anyother GNOME uses to mount devices) "well, whenever I put a removable device, mount it with the sync option" ?

PS: [not so important]: I noticed very slow copying bitrate, and I did what the wiki says about but didn't solve anything. Any ideas?

Verify the discs in the disc utility and see if that works. It'll probably take an hour or so cos the disc utility's performance has been less than favorable.
Try this: Turn off the computer, disconnect the drives, then restart the computer. Now, re-connect the drives while the computer is running, let them mount and see if you can eject them. One would assume it is a permissions issue, however, with the multitude of glitches appearing with ext drives and USB devices in Leopard it's hard to assume anything.

I’m having serious problem to connect an usb to irda device.
My Ibook G4 12” 1,33 Ghz doesn’t want to recognized this device.
Any other usb devices it recognized immediately but this one no!!!
Is there ayone that can help me?
I need this device so that I can connect my Ibook with my mobile phone.

Please, take a look in Apple System profiler at USB pane should be visible this USB dongle. Take a look on vendor information, what kind of chip installed on this IrDA dongle and try to find driver for this chip. I think it should work out.

K7N2 deltas mainboards have a problem with usb devices ??

Ok here is my problem..
I had installed WinXP Pro with SP1..
I got a 20 GB USB2.0 disk.i connected it on the both front or rear usb ports.
When i tried to transfer files to my usb disk or to my PC, in the middle of the copying, i got "Write Delay Failed" error and lost my usb connection..
I had to plug it out and in again..
Now, i have an DSL modem..Last night, i was disconnected from internet and my modem's lights gone..I plug it again, no lights..restarted my PC, also completely shutdown Windows XP..Again no lights..
Then, formatted PC and installed windows 2000 Pr and SP4, until now, my modem worked fine..But USB 2.0 ports are still no use for my usb disk...
In bios , it's enabled as USB 1.1+2.0..
I think this K7N2 deltas have a problem with usb 2.0 devices and Win XP Pro..
Some guys talking about, removing 9th wire earth, but couldn't understand which wire from where ? From mainboard or from usd device's cable ?
Those cables are fabricated, i think it's impossible ?
My processor is Athlon 2500+, ram Twinmos 512 DDR 400

I'm also having this problem. It's happening with my USB flash disk. I was almost buying another one when I tried it with Windows Vista on the same machine and it worked ok, then I tried Arch Linux (with kernel 2.6.30.5) on another machine and got the same error. After that I tried Ubuntu and it worked ok. Seems that Arch's kernel doesn't like my USB flash disk.

MSI K8N Diamond - Boot problems with USB devices attached.

Hi There.
I have been seeking the forums, but havent found the answer to my problem yet.
This is how it goes with ANY USB devices attached to either of the four USB ports on the Motherboard.
When i turn on my system, it hangs in the POST right after displaying the BIOS version (Which I have updated to 1.6) - I cant use my Keyboard to get to the BIOS setup.
Without USB devices attached...
The system boots without problems. And in Windows XP SP2 i can insert my keyboard, mouse etc. and everything works great - both USB 1.1 & 2.0 devices.
I have disabled the KB/USB.. in BIOS and I have disabled the "Boot on other device" option as well.
As I have found on this forum, a lot of people have problems with USB Front panel and D-Bracket (USB ports) connectors causing the system to hang - But my D-Bracket (USB connectors) and my front USB port is at this time DISCONNECTED - so this cannot be the problem.
The D-Bracket shows the "Bios Sign On" information - and stops at that point
Am I having a malfunctioning Motherboard here, or are there any solutions to this problem?
Please help me as I am desperate to have my system work properly.

Well I have read about that somewhere in here, but my problem is NOT with an USB hub, but with any USB device attached to the motherboard's USB slots. It is driving me nuts to be honest!! I think it might be time for RMA
What do you say guys - is my Motherboard ready for RMA, or do I have to try something specific berfore sending it to the retailer??

IPod nano works with USB 1.1 but not USB 2.0

Anyone using an iPod nano that works with USB 1.1 but not with USB 2.0? I am using Windows XP and when installing the iPod software from CD it recognizes the iPod and am able to transfer songs using iTunes but when installing SP1 or SP2 to enable USB 2.0 transfers, Windows XP only recognizes the iPod nano as a USB Mass Storage Device. This is the same with iPod Updater.

I have a similar problem with the following configuration:
- Dell Dimension 4100 Desktop with 2 integrated USB 1.1 ports, Windows 2000 SP 4
- PCI 6-Ports USB 2.0 Card ("Mentor" resp. www.bona.com.tw), Model USB20-PCI/6P
What works well?
- All my USB add-ons (1.1 and 2.0) on the internal 1.1 ports as well as on the USB2.0 PCI card
- iPod Nano 4GB on internal 1.1 ports (external drive in windows 2000 as well as iPod in iTunes)
- iPod Nano works as well as on the USB 2.0 card ONLY WHEN my old 4-port USB1.1 hub is connected between Nano and USB card
What doesn't works?
My iPod Nano directly connected to the USB 2.0 card. Symptoms when connecting:
- Windows is very slow, process "scvhost.exe" or "system.exe" using 99% of CPU for some minutes
- iPod is recognised as external drive, but when I click on it, it is empty and copying files to it results in "I/O error"
- iTunes doesn't recognise the iPod (of course, if even windows itself cannot read from it...)
I removed all USB drivers, reinstalled iTunes, iPod (by the way, I still don't understand what "iPod update" is good for, except for updating the iPod's firmware), deactivate the internal USB1.1 ports, no result.

Can't mount external HDD? "usb 1-1: Device not accepting address"

I just bought a Medion HDDRIVE2GO (Full Speed) from Aldi, and at first when I plugged it in, everything went fine (well, I thought so). Appearently it had some errors with HAL not being able to read the HDD (error name="(unset)").

I found this post on linux forums which say It's a HAL related problem.
"rmmod ehci_hcd" made it work for some of these guys Which one of them explains It's a data speed issue. Cables.., 2.0 1.0, that sort of things. Read it, I bet you'll get more out of it, It's old though.
Try removing the module, plugging the drive, check dmesg, and mount manually.

Satellite M30X: Problems with USB 2.0 external HDD

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite M30X. I recently bought myself a 200GB External Hard Disc. It has its own Power supply. If I connect it with USB 2.0 to my Laptop it happens to diconnect and reconnect permanantly. Sometimes it works, then I can put Data on the Disc. Then again it diconnects and reconnects many times. I've already tried another USB Port, but there is no difference. It's very strange, because I connected the External Hard Disc to many other Computers (Laptop and Tower) and it ALWAYS works!!! Its only with my Laptop it disconnects and reconnects the whole time. As I said, not always. Sometimes it works for like an half an hour or so then the action starts again ...
Can somebody help???

I really dont know why this happen. A friend of mine has the same problem with his desktop. While copy process runs the HDD is suddenly disconnected and there is also acoustic sound when the hardware is removed.
I have connected his HDD on my Tecra and there is no problem. I really dont know what the problem can be. Maybe there is some problem with OS because I can not believe that there is some contact problem with USB ports.
If you use many different USB devices at the same time maybe there is some conflict between few different drivers. Sorry but it is not easy to give some precise explanation.

Hey guys!
i'm really having a problem with my apple mobile device..
whenever i connect my cable to my computer WITHOUT the apple mobile device support file/program..my ITOUCH can sync and it WORKS!
but ITUNES doesnt sync in with my itouch because ITUNES doesn't work without the apple mobile device support program.. SO...
i reinstalled my ITUNES
i reinstalled my mobile device support file/program
i even changing it to AUTO (what they said about control panal, program, service, thingy)
I RESTARTED everything.. i think i did almost everything there is in apple support!
with NO LUCK! was it able to connect my computer.. UNLESS i take the apple mobile device support program OUT! @.@
i really need your help guys D:
P.S i dont have a Virus! i have a really good computer that is stable, so i'm certain i dont have a virus doing this.. but do you happened to know why it's causing this? Also how can i fix it?
BTW.. IT IS A CODE 52 i don't know what that means..

Problem with USB speed

I am new to MSI forum, and have some questions.
I have MSI K9NU Neo-V mainboard and have problem with USB speed . I have all the latest drivers installed and the latest BIOS for my mainboard but still have the problem that mainboard detects all USB devices like USB 1.1
MB MSI MS-7270 ver. 1 (K9NU Neo-V)
CPU AMD Athlon 4200+
VGA MSI 8600 GTS
Memory 2 x 512 MB DDR2 667 Corsair XMS matched Pair
PSU Gigabyte GE-R 460 V1
DVD-RW Pioneer DVR 112D
HDD Western Digital WD2500JS
OS Windows XP SP3 x86
Any idea about this?!

Yes, everything is installed and updated with latest drivers even from nVidia WEB for ULi chipset. the devices that we are talking about are USB removable storage like 8GB USB Flash Drive from Kingmax, 2GB Flash Drive from Xerox, 1 GB USB Flash drive from Kingston, USB case for 2,5" HDD from Spire ... 4s Hotspot tethering only works with USB and BT but not with wifi

Hi,
XP sp3 - iPhone 4s with ios 5.0.1 - on Three one plan
Tethering with wifi works to a friends Samsung phone, wifi on the pc confirmed working with the apple store wifi, tethering with USB and BT works with good connection speeds on my laptop but when i try to tether with wifi it connects to the laptop at 54mbps and all appears well, even claims to have received a small amount of data packets, but no data comes to any browser. The iPhone reports 1 connection to the hotspot and stays connected with a non-pulsing blue bar after the first minute.

I've deleted my firewall (zone alarm) completely and turned off windows firewall to go naked surfing for a second even though they don't cause a problem with USB tethering, makes no difference
I've deleted the network connection numerous times

turned off the wireless with a hardware switch and on again
disabled bluetooth
rebooted many times
reinstalled itunes (latest)
loads more things i can't remember
This is causing me a nightmare. I've been through everything i can find online, been to the Apple store genius bar (genius appeared to have sub zero knowledge / interest as it involved a MS machine), been to a Three shop (legally not allowed to touch my PC apparently) and been to a Sony shop (laptop make, not their fault if my iphone doesn't work). All very frustrating.
Please help if you can! Any suggestion will be tried unless it involves sledge hammers or lakes, and only then for a few more days at most.

Turned off bluetooth on phone, turned off hotspot and on again, phone asked if i wanted to turn on bluetooth or go with USB and wifi only, said usb/wifi only. Still nothing. Rebooted PC and iphone. Turned on hotspot, pc seemlessly connects to network, still no data comes.
One odd thing is zone alarm asks me to "select a security zone for the wireless network at ip address: *******.0" every time and doesn't seem to remember the setting over sessions. When i get the status of the connection the ip address is *****.2 and default gateway is same ********.1 Not sure if that's anything.
Also getting a javascript error about an undefinded component (trustcheckermozilla) since i updated zonealarm but as i said even completely uninstalling zonealarm made no difference. I'll update firefox as well but tried with IE and still no data.

With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Reboot and see if all is well
In case that your OS is Windows 7 (64 bit)
1. Open windows explorer, go to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
2. Copy file "SQLite3.dll"
3. Open new windows explorer, to to location C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
4. Paste file "SQLite3.dll" to the location.
5. Reboot your computer, it should not display that message, it should be clear.

Satellite M70-190 - problem with USB

Hi!
After uninstall Windows XP and BIOS update, i have a problem with USB ports. My USB flash drive does't work. Windows find it as USB flash drive, but i can't find it in "My computer"
So have anyone idea about this problem?
PS External HDD works perfect, as USB mouse, and USB WiMax modem.
Im hoping someone out there can help with this problem.

Is described issue the same on all USB ports?
I mean, I have Satellite M70-159 in front of me and since long time I use 8GB SanDisc and 2GB Toshiba USB stick and both devices are recognized properly.
I still use original Toshiba WXP installation (updated of course).

Problems with usb / sd removable devices (not/badly copying)
