Problems with Wi-Fi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Problems with Wi-Fi beginsed, Problems with Wi-Fi have begun  right after setup Mac OS X Lion. All devices can see the WiFi but they couldn't  connect to  most important resources exept googl.

The only permanent solutions I found for my setup (iMac mid 2010 Core i3 3,2 GHz / FritzBox 7270 v3) within the last three month were:
going back to Snow Leopard
replacing Lion`s wi-fi-drivers with Snow Leopard´s old wi-fi-drivers (http://rys.pixeltards.com/2011/09/04/osx-lion-wifi.html) > only works with the atheros-chipset and you can`t use Airdrop any more...
doing a permanent ping to google.com or whatever via a terminal-window > not realy comfortable...
switching to the 5 GHz-band (802.11 n+a) in my router`s configuration > iPhones can`t join the wi-fi any more as they only support 2,4 GHz in 802.11 n...
My choice is No. 2.
ALL the other tips/tricks/recommendations (from this community, different websites and Apple`s support-hotline) worked for some hours or days only in my case...

Follow the instructions below to set up IMAP1 access in most email clients.
Google Apps users, please follow the default instructions unless otherwise noted, replacing 'your_domain.com' with your actual domain2 name.
this is all greek to me. WHAT IS STARTTLS? On the first page of Apple set up there is a TLS certificate and it is marked NONE- should I change it to the long APPLE CERT option?  The next page under ADVANCED: THERE IS A BOX SSL MARKED.  Then IMAP Path Prefix - I put stmp.gmail.com.. is that right?  Port 993 can  use this one? as 456 doesn't work and 587 said it wasn't safe.  Under AUTHENTICATION I used PASSWORD.  Should I have used external client cert TLS?
Please help me set this up securely. Thanks

  • Is anyone facing problems with quicktime on lion???

I recently upgraded my macbook pro to lion osx and the problems keep showing up one by one... quicktime is the worst. it has literally stopped functioning! at first, there was this problem with audio and video not being synched; and then it got worse and was totally playing the videos without any audio track and now, after a week or so, the app is not working AT ALL!!!
I hit "play", the icon changes to "pause" as in : "i'm playing the video!" and then it stops and NOTHING HAPPENS. and it's not about the format of the videos either. i treid .wmv (which was working btw), .avi or .mov (made by imovies for crying out loud!)...
when its photoshop being slow and laggy, you can blame adobe! but isn't quicktime supposed to be the "official" apple player??? am heavily disappointed apple!

  • Time machine backup problem with upgrade to Lion - Choose Backup Disk button non-existant

Hi, I just upgraded my mac mini to Lion and have encountered a problem with by Time Machine. It no longer sees my networked drive for back up. So, I followed the instructions on this site http://code.stephenmorley.org/articles/time-machine-on-a-network-drive/ and get to item 6b. and have a problem I have not been able to sort out. Instead of the button "Choose Backup Disk" on the Time Machine window, I have a button "Select Disk" with a button "Options" under it. When I click "Select Disk" I get a window promtping me to "Set Up Other Time Capsule" and clicking that takes me to a window for AirPort Utility. (screen shot )
Anyone know why I don't have the right button for starters and why I can't access any drives on my machine at all? I followed the web instructions on the site I mention above because initially I had an error about AFP, so suspected the drive set up here (it is my work) is incompatible.
(The only IT guy we have is on vacation for 2 weeks and then I am on vacation for 2 weeks and can't wait a month in order to back up! Thought I would try here to see if I can get answers before I am away.)
    Thanks in advance!

i had a similar problem when I first installed Lion last year.  It seems that some network NAS products need a firmware update to work with Lion.  I contacted the manufacturer and they helped me out.  I am using a Synology NAS system.  Problem solved after firmware update.

  • Problems with recent Mt. Lion update? October

I'm having a lot of weird issues since running a software update. I'm on a 11-inch MacBook Air, purchased in August 2012, running 10.8.2. I ran the Mt. Lion software update and ever since then I've had the following issues:
    - Cannot empty trash. I've tried secure empty trash, holding down alt/option and secure empty trash, repairing disk permissions and restarting. Nothing. I get the error:
"The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items."
    - Wireless network connections timing out. This is happening at home and at work.
    - Google account-related things not working. I opened iCal and was prompted to deal with a certificate that was invalid. I thought maybe it was an application-specific password thing. I couldn't get the certificate info window to stop popping up. Ended up having to force quit.
    - Fantastical is also prompting me for my two Google account passwords, but when I enter them I get an error code. Error 1. I've e-mailed Flexibits about this issue.
    - Being prompted by all apps to access my keychain, sometimes more than once. I guess after the update it forced all my apps to prompt me for new permissions. This is more annoying than anything else.
Overall I'm still able to use my machine, but not in the seamless way I was prior to this update. Anyone having problems with this? Or know of a fix? I'm calling Apple later today to see if they have some ideas. Thanks for your help!

Sounds like your home folder permissions are out of whack.
Open Terminal and paste this command:
    sudo chown -R `id -un` ~
Put in your password and press 'return'.
Wait till it finishes, it might take a while. Restart the computer and test.

  • Problem with Messages (Mountain Lion)

Messages has proven to be very beneficial & convenient, however I'm experiencing one problem with the program... When I send a Message from my computer, it doesn't show up on the recipients' phone as part of our continuing, preexisting conversation.  Though it shows up on their phone as being from me, it starts a new conversation thread.  How can I ensure uniformity so that the recipient doesn't have two separate conversations on their iPhone with me (one from my iMac & one from my iPhone)?
    Thank You,
    Glenn

    You have two options here.
    One:
Wait for iOS 6 which, par the WWDC2012, is supposed to intigrate your cellphone number with iMessages.
    Two:
Have your friend add your apple id that you are using with your computer to the contact card they have for you.
Have them add the email address that you have tied to iMessages to your home or work email in Contacts.app on their phone in your contacts card.
Have the delete the two messages that you are having with them and then message them.
now when they text you they will be texting either your phone number or your email address, and they should all be in one chat.
This goes the same with facebook, gchat and aim. Adding those accounts to a person's contact card in Contacts will make it so any conversation you have with them will remain in one chat.
in other words, you friend needs to add your apple id that you are using with iMessages on Messages and delete the previous messages they have open, to have one unified synced imessages expereince.
    i hope this helped.

  • I have received my first mac from a designer friend who passed away recently. He had been having problems with crashing in Lion. His friend upgraded to Mountain Lion before his mac pro laptop, mid 2010, was sent to me. It has many problems and crashes

After sorting the material of my friends on the drive and creating a new user, I realized that the system was unusable with 30 or 40 crashes a day. I am a photoshop user and my friend had installed cs2 and upgraded to cs5. Actually everything was crashing and he had had the problems in Lion and they did not go away in Mountain Lion.
So my sense is the next best step is to uninstall and reinstall the operating system....but I'm entirely new to Mac though I quite good at problem solving on PC.  I have been messing around trying to get Mac up for over a week now so am learning quickly but feel uncertain about the steps in installation and don't want to mess things further.
    I have found this
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3351
    which seems useful.
I'm backing everything now to a usb drive, I have one copy in timemachine, but I need a clean install so I'm backing things manually as it's not so complicated my being a new user.
I have the original discs of Snow Leopard and a dmg file of Mountain Lion that were installed on this computer.
I hope I can find my friends Adobe id and password.....he does have a list of passwords, how can I check if they are correct.
Do I need to install Snow leopard from the original disks first and then update and then upgrade to Mountain Lion?
He upgraded first to Lion but I can't find that program to install, do I need it to get to Mountain Lion?
I don't have boot disks, does that matter?
What can I do about CS5 in a restore? I don't mind loosing other programs so much as this one.....I haven't seen the upgrades and only have CS2. What happens to all your programs...I guess they are just lost?
I haven't used mail, so I'm not worried about that.
Hope I can get some support with the process, any support will be valued that is at all related. Thank you

I am looking through this material, it's great. I'm wondering though, does command r work in #8 if my original disks where Snow Leopard?
Yes, when the operating system was upgraded to 10.7 then to 10.8, it 10.6 was replaced so those 10.6 disks are only good now for completely erasing the entire drive and reverting the machine back to 10.6
10.7 and 10.8 has a Recovery HD partiton on the boot drive.
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
I have a mountain lion dmg file that was used to upgrade from Lion, would double clicking on this equal the same thing as reinstalling mountain lion over itself?
I wouldn't use this, as Apple is now changing things, so you need to reinstall 10.8 via the Recovery HD
I would prefer to keep CS5 photoshop
Not going to happen, if it's working now good for you. But according to Roaring Apps it's not working for 10.8. and it needs to be upgraded to CS6
If you revert the machine to 10.6 or 10.7, your going to erase CS5 and everything else.
Doing #20 would be a bit beyond me and I don't know another mac user so that I can work from their mac.
Why do you need another Mac users machine?
    Print out the instructions.
Here is some more about secure erasing for a new owner
How do I securely delete data from the machine?
    Installing OS X 10.8 again
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
Does the reinstall have to go from Snow Leopard which was the base install, to lion then to mountain lion,
No, you erase and install 10.8
When Apple upgrades 10.6 to 10.7 then to 10.8, it's a complete operating system replacement, it's called a upgrade because it's still OS X but leaves all your files and most programs intact, none of the older operating system version remains.
Just like if you would upgrade Vista to Windows 7, or Windows 7 to Windows 7 Pro.
Can I install the mountain lion upgrade over a freshly installed Snow Leopard?
Yes, but it requires erasing the entire drive (including 10.8 Recovery HD) from the 10.6 disks, then installing 10.6, then Software Updating to 10.6.8, then buying 10.8 from the AppStore, then downloading it and installing it, then the machine will be 10.8
Or you can use the Recovery HD and just erase the Macintosh HD parittion then reinstall 10.8 that way for free.
How to reinstall just OS X or erase/install OS X
    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
See what is confusing you is there is a hidden Recovery HD partition on the boot drive, it can do all the things like a OS X install disk can do, erase the Macintosh HD partiton (where OS X, programs and files are) and install a new copy of OSX from Apple's servers so it reboots to a brand new machine again (no Cs5 though)
Instead of a boot disk, there is a two bootable partitions on the boot drive, one is Recovery HD and the other is Macintosh HD which boots into OS X.
SO your command r booting the operating system in Recovery HD to erase the other partition and reinstall OS X into from Apple's servers, got it.?
Your going to need your AppleID and password to reinstall OS X 10.8, all part of the new world order.

  • Problem with Itunes or Lion. Not quite sure.

Hello, during this summer I upgraded my mac first to snow leopard via disk, then to Lion via disk from a Mac Store in Eugene OR (which I received after purchasing through itunes in the store on my father's account). I upgraded my computer and it was working fine up until I updated my itunes. Now it has stopped working completely. Once I updated the Itunes to the current version it began to crash before it even began, also if I put in my Ipod or Iphone, the same error appears. I need Itunes to function so I can update my Iphone, ipod ect. I've looked up similar errors, and it seems that the problem arises because of a devolper's kit? I have paid for a legal copy of Lion and not the developers kit, yet the store in Oregon seemed to have given me a developers kit without my knowledge and I have installed that. Without the ability to open Itunes I cannot download it to even try to reinstall the (idk what the terminology is) "normal release build". Please any advice would do. I am a college student and not being able to use my iphone, ipad, or ipods is extremely inconveinent expecially when I need to put my books for next semester on my Ipad.

I think the problem is the fact you got a developer kit version.    Time to bring it in to an Apple Store yourself, and report the Oregon store you got it from for distributing data that was likely under non-disclosure and in beta form.
http://www.apple.com/retail is what you need to go to.   If you can't get near one, you might want to contact the store yourself.  Usually the phone number plus 5 as an extension will work.   But try several if it doesn't until you can get a real person.

  • Mouse problems with v10.7 Lion and VMWare Fusion 3.1.3; reboot of Lion temporarily fixes it

Since installing Lion, my VMWare Fusion 3.1.3 Windows 7 and XP virtual machines have very strange mouse problems.  I thought it might have been caused by 3rd party software on my iMac (Mouse Zoom), because it seemed to work after removing the software, but I have now discovered that it is actually the reboot of OS X v10.7 (and now v10.7.1) that temporarity removes the problem.  However, after a while the problem comes back, requiring another reboot of Lion.
The problem is strange behavior of mouse button clicks inside the virtual machine, e.g. unable to double click on a folder or program in Windows because it jumps back to the higher folder tree, as if I had hit the ESC key.  In addition to my USB and BlueTooth mice, the Mac touchpad also has the problem.  I have confirmed that the problem is probably in how VMWare maps the iMac human interface devices (HIDs) to the virtual mouse inside the VM, because I am able to get correct mouse function by attaching one of my mice directly to the Virtual Machine (there is an edit to the VMX file that enables HID devices).
I have deleted and reinstalled VMWare Fusion 3.1.3 per suggestions on the VMWare support site and/or various forums, but that did not help.

According to: http://roaringapps.com/app:61 Version 3.1.3 has issues with Lion.  There is a 2011 beta that works better.

  • Problem with permissions on Lion.

I am having a few different things going on with my macbookpro. On a different question I was told that the problem is probably a hard drive and I should replace it. However, ican not do that at this time since I am traveling.
The permission problem is this. When I try to download the update for lion and then try to install it I am told I do not have permission. I did run the verify permissions and then repair permissions. I did this twice . Both times itrepaired something. I also follow a suggestion fron Linc Davis on a different thread. This did not work. What I did do is login as a guest and then tried to download and run the updates. And yes under guest I can do this I have permission!
I would like to know how to repair the permissions in my admin account. If it can't be fixed then how do I make a new admin account?
As a side note when I attach my camera to upload pictures to iPhoto or aperture these programs will not recognize the camera as a device. I don't know if that is related to permissions again. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have some other issues going on.
You need a fast relaible Internet connection so you can first Repair Disk and Reinstall just OS X, while command r booted from Lion Recovery HD/Partition.
Note: a few programs that have kext file in OS X at boot will no longer work afer Reinstalling just OS X, resinstall those programs from fresh sources and update. If you get a Gray screen or other hang, hold the Shift Key down to disable them and either remove the offending program (use their uninstaller!) or update it.
If you know OS X and the drive is good, then you can create a new User account in System Preferences and log into that to see if your problems continue, if so it's like a program or Applications area problem.
If it's isolated to the previous User account, try to locate what program(s) it occurs, corrupted files etc, if it's on the Internet or not etc.

  • Sleeping problem with OS X Lion?

I have a new 15 inch Macbook Pro that shipped with Lion which has recently succumbed to a sleeping problem.  When I have the computer plugged in to the wall outlet for charging, and I close the lid, it goes to sleep, but the sleep light stays on solid; it does not blink/fade on and off.  Then, under these same circumstances, when I open the lid, I see my login screen for about 1.5 seconds and then the screen goes black.  If I click the F1 button to turn the screen brightness down, the login screen returns, and I can login and use the computer as normal with no issues.  If I unplug the MagSafe charger and allow the computer to run on its battery, none of these issues occur.
AND all of the Energy Saver preferences are set to the default, and all sharing is disabled.
    All help is sincerely appreciated,
    Jake

I have the exact same issue! I'm so glad it isn't just me having this problem ..
I also have a 15 inch Macbook Pro with OSX Lion.
I really don't know whether it's a new feature of Lion or a bug.
Sleep mode seems to be disabled while charging ...
If you put the Macbook Pro to sleep with the magsafe adapter plugged in, it won't go to sleep. You can still hear the fans running, and the light won't blink, as you indicated. When you open the lid again, the screen lights up for a few seconds, then turns black. I haven't tried the F1 key, but I do know the screen comes back when you unplug the adapter ...
And it's getting even stranger: when you close the lid with the magsafe adapter plugged in, my MBP won't go to sleep. But when you plug out the adapter while still having the lid closed, my MBP WILL go to sleep. When you plug the adapter back in while sleeping, it will still keep asleep but the battery WON'T charge, although the adapter 's connected (the light is green while it should be orange, since the battery is not fully charged).
None of these issues occur when you put the MBP to sleep without the power adapter connected; it goes to sleep seamlessly.
It seems to me that this could be a bug, but it could also be an extra safety feature of apple ..
Maybe they wanted to protect the battery this way? I hear a lot of people say it's bad to keep for your battery to keep your laptop plugged in all time, although I doubt it.
Someone who knows more about this, or has a fix for this 'bug' ?

  • Problems with wifi after lion upgrade 10.7.2 but only at home

HI, my wifi conection was problemless till I upgraded to lion 10.7.2. After that, it is impossible to connect through airport but only in my home´s wifi. Other computers work at home (including my iphone) and my macbook pro connects everywhere else with no problem but it doesn´t at home. Inmediately after choosing the desired conection it says: Not posible to conect due to conection time run out (or something like that).
    Any help?

  • I deleted the extra boot partition, will there be any problems with upgrading to Lion 10.7.2?

I have a Macbook 5,2, with a triple boot setup including Lion, Windows 7, and Ubuntu, managed by rEFIt.  After upgrading from Snow Leopard, the Lion installer created a "boot partition" before my Windows partition, screwing up my mbr/gpt sync and making me unable to boot into the other operating systems.  After many tries at other fixes, I deleted the boot partition after first copying its contents to an external HFS+ partition, and resized my Lion partition to include that space (although there is still a few hundred megabytes separating Lion and Windows).
Since the 10.7.2 release notes specifically mention changes to how the boot partition is accessed, I wanted to make sure, before upgrading, that it will not once again wreak havoc on my partition scheme by installing another boot partition or trying to modify the Windows partition thinking it is the missing boot partition.  I think I read somewhere that in certain multi-boot setups, the Lion installer did not add the boot partition specifically to avoid the problems I was having; how do I make sure that I do not have them again?
    Thanks.

You shouldn't have any issues, since Parallels v9 is the current version.  You might want to visit the Parallels support forums to see if users there are aware of any issues.  I know I upgraded my MBP from Mountain Lion to Mavericks and I had no issues with my Parallels v8.  A short while after the update to Mavericks, I did upgrade my Parallels to v9, but I wasn't really having any problems on v8 either.
