Problems with win vista and an AX to AX extended network

Hi, I'm wondering if someone can help me out with a problem I'm having. I have a house with several floors and had patchy coverage from the Airport Express unit serving as a base station, at least down in the basement where my desktop is located. I decided to put a 2nd Airport Express unit halfway between, and choose to extend the network (using the Extend a Wireless Network option from the dropdown box, rather than WDS). For some reason, my pc won't connect properly to the 2nd AX, I get an IP address assigned, but can't ping anything. When I check the log, I see these entries for the mac address of the desktop:
Apr 25 14:18:18 5 Associated with station 00:1c:10:e4:05:7c
Apr 25 14:18:22 5 Deauthenticating with station 00:1c:10:e4:05:7c (reserved 2).
Apr 25 14:18:22 5 Disassociated with station 00:1c:10:e4:05:7c
Curiously, I have a laptop that works just fine, and I can confirm that it's connected to the extending station using the AirPort utility by seeing the wireless clients attached.
On several occasions I have managed to get the desktop to the base upstairs (in spite of the patchy reception) and reception permitting, it works ok. Very strange!
Other info:
my setup is adsl+ > thomson modem/router (from the isp, O2) > airport express base station (via ethernet cable) > airport express extending station
the desktop uses a linksys wireless g pci adapter, latest driver downloaded
the laptop is a sony vaio running vista business, the desktop vista ultimate
I am using WPA/WPA2 PERSONAL with AES encryption.
I have an integrated modem / router from my ISP that acts as a dhcp server and is connected to the AX base station via an ethernet cable.
My iphone also connects to the AX extending station
The AX base station is broadcasting 802.11n (b/g compatible mode)
Am I stretching the windows compatibility with this setup?

Sounds like it should work to me. I run the following for a network: AExt Dual Band on 2.4 & % Ghz, AExp as extender on 2.4 Ghz, AExp on 5 Ghz as extender, an HP Notebook with Vista 32 connects on 2.4 Ghz, Older IBM Notebook runs XP connects on 2.4 GHz, a new DELL Intel Quad running Vista 64 connects on 5 Ghz. It all works without problems.
I did have some connecting issues when I was using Norton 360 release 2.something. I upgraded to version 3, free with active subscription, and all issues have seemed to go away. Release 3 seems to be much more Apple aware.
Would encourage you to call Apple Support. When I called, I found them to be pretty knowledgeable and they actually speak US English as their native language.
Another tip, if you go to "Network & Sharing Center", you can see signal strength. I found this useful to tell where a particular system was connecting.
Hope this helps, Good Luck!

  • Problems with Windows VISTA and WPA-2

    Hi Guys,
I am using a Linksys router supporting draft-N; it seems that after some time of usage; Windows Vista stop being able to connect to Linksys using a WPA-2 PSK.
Everytime you search for the SSID and attempt to connect, the ''network is taking too long to connect''' and Windows always informs the user that ''limited or no connectivity'' even though the signal strength is excellent.
Is that a common problem in Windows Visa (I am using Home Edition)?

Yes thats the basica command problem with Windows Vista while connecting to the Wireless Network.... In this you can need to update your Windows Vista OS with all the Latest Patches and the Service Pack to improve more stability on your Vista Computer to get connected to the Wireless Network..

  • Problem with Wine, NVidia and fullscreen games

    Hi,
I'm writing about a problem i recently noticed with wine, nvidia gpu and fullscreen 2d games.Basically the problem is as follows - i am running arch with the latest kernel and nvidia drivers on Thinkpad T61 with NVidia Quadro NVS 140M. I have a problem with old 2d games like Red Alert 2, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Diablo 2, Heroes 3. All of these games do not support the native 1440x900 resolution of my screen and all of them work fine in window mode but crash if fullscreen is selected. I managed to get some of them working by making them work at higher resolutions. For example although Red Alert 2 does not support 1440x900, it can be easily made to work at that resolution and after i applied the necessary settings it worked. The same was with Heroes 3 - by default it does not support 1440x900 and it used to work only i window mode but there is a HD mod which allows it to run in higher resolutions and after i applied it it worked perfectly in fullscreen. I haven't thested Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale but i think it will work there too.
The problem is that i cannot use this approach to all games - for example i must run Diablo 2 and Starcraft in their original resolutions. I read somewhere that the problem is that wine can only change between the resolutions described in the xorg.conf file and if doesn't find the necessary resolution the game will crash or will only take the portion of the screen that is its resolution - for example when i play Starcraft rather than stretching it to the whole screen it simply takes 640x480 pixels of my screen and the game is displayed in the top left corner of the screen leaving everything else black.
I didn't have this problem before - it is something new though i'm not sure since when do i have the problem because i rarely play games. As for the idea that the problem may be related to the resolutions defined in the Xorg.conf file, my xorg.conf is automatically generated by the nvidia installer and there are no resolutions defined there.

I remember that issue, with the 302 series.
I have Nvidia 304.48 installed and the problem still exists (it also happens with Catalyst). This didn't occur with 295.59 using the same version of Wine.

  • Problems with Windows Vista and Speedster 945GT?

    Hi!
I've been trying to install Windows Vista on my Speedster 945GT-based system for some time now, but I am unable to get it to run stable.
It hangs on random occasions when installing and if one is lucky it's gets thru the install but then it hangs at the desktop in Vista.
I'm using the latest BIOS version out (1.2) and a Core2Duo T7600 CPU.
I have even tried other CPU's to rule out CPU error with the same results. Same goes with different sticks of memory.
Does anyone have a sollution to this problem?
Btw, it works fine when Windows XP is installed.
    Best regards
    Johan

I had similar problems with Vista 32-bit (Ultimate). I got the board with BIOS v1.0, while I also purchased a T7200 Dual 2 Core. This did not work at all. MSI Netherlands was kind enough to flash the BIOS for me with v1.2 so I could get things working. However, I was not too lucky with Vista. Could just get to the boot screen, but then it hung.
BIOS v1.3 did the trick. I have things working now, but the onboard video is a disaster. Windows Update installed new chipset drivers but this did not help. Intel Graphics drivers did also not improve things.
I started with an analog connection to my 1280x1024 Philips 170B2. Worked ok, but could not get the system working in a higher resolution than 1024x768 which is obviously not preferred. At that time, the DVI connector of my monitor was in use by another system, soon to be replaced by this one.
Instead of worrying about the resolution on the analog connection I thought it was time to hook my monitor up via DVI. And then things started to get even worse.
The POST is visible, you can see Windows starting but then there is a black screen. Windows is fully loading, I can hear through the speakers. I can even login, but still no screen.
So I went back to analog VGA and guess what - same issue with analog VGA now!
System works 'fine' in Safe Mode, but even the 640x480 boot option does not help.
My temp solution now is to use my 7600GS, but as the onboard video might be good enough for me (if it works), I would prefer to get things working.

  • Database connectivity toolkit problem with WINDOWS VISTA and Microsoft jet 4.0 provider

    Hi again,
I'm experiencing a problem with Database connectivity toolkit and Microsoft Jet 4.0 provider (MS ACCESS mdb database).
I was able to get my application to work properly on my PC: WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL, VERSION 2002, SERVICE PACK 3 and Msjet40.dll ver. 4.0.9511.0 (Windows XP SP3 and Security Bullettin MS08-028).
The same connectivity toolkit seems to have problems (although I didn't get any error dialog) on a laptop with WINDOWS VISTA ULTIMATE, SERVICE PACK 2 and Msjet40.dll ver. 4.0.9755.0.
Does anyone have an idea whether it is a sort of compatibility issue or a different thing?
Would it be possible to include my DLLs into the installer in such a way LabVIEW application calls those DLLs instead of the ones it finds on the host PC?
Thanks a lot. Any suggestion or advice very welcome and appreciated.

I ran into this with Windows7 64 but, could not get the jet 4.0 to work.  Endnd up dumping access and used sql server express, its free, and all my code worked fine, just used a different UDL to connect.  I wasted lots of time trying to find a way of getting the jet4.0 to work with 64bit windows.

  • Partition problem with Win 7 and Lion

I have a 2011 Mac Mini with two hard drives - the original 500GB drive and a SSD.   The SSD is laid out as follows:
    $ diskutil list
    /dev/disk0
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *60.0 GB    disk0
       1:                        EFI                         209.7 MB   disk0s1
       2:                  Apple_HFS OSX Lion SSD            19.0 GB    disk0s2

       4:       Microsoft Basic Data BOOTCAMP W7             40.2 GB    disk0s4
It has my two bootable operating systems and works fine (for now) so I am happy to leave it alone.
The problem is with the second drive.  It has:
    1) EFI partition 200M
    2) Original Lion install 40G HFS+
    3) Original recovery partition 650M
    4) Space set aside for OSX HFS+ 160G (has some big files in it)
    5) Space set aside for Windows NTFS 300G (no files in it yet)
I think there is a problem with MBR vs GPT and Disk Utility vs Disk Management.
Disk Utility or fdisk calls it
    /dev/disk1
       #:                       TYPE NAME                    SIZE       IDENTIFIER
       0:      GUID_partition_scheme                        *500.1 GB   disk1

5:       Microsoft Basic Data NTFS stuff              300.1 GB   disk1s5 (this entry seems right)
and I cannot access the partitions in Lion.
    Gdisk calls it:
    GPT fdisk (gdisk) version 0.8.1
    Partition table scan:
      MBR: hybrid
      BSD: not present
      APM: not present
      GPT: present
Found valid GPT with hybrid MBR; using GPT.

    Disk identifier (GUID): 0000303E-4D40-0000-1B4C-0000F9090000
Partition table holds up to 128 entries
First usable sector is 34, last usable sector is 976773134
Partitions will be aligned on 8-sector boundaries
Total free space is 2061 sectors (1.0 MiB)
Number  Start (sector)    End (sector)  Size       Code  Name
       1              40          409639   200.0 MiB   EF00  EFI system partition
       2          409640        73900919   35.0 GiB    0700  Customer (name is wrong)
       3        73900920        75170455   619.9 MiB   0700  Recovery HD

       5       390590464       976773119   279.5 GiB   0700  Basic data partition (name is wrong)
Windows Disk Management is happy to see inside the HFS partitions, so I know all my files are at least still there.  I had a 5th NTFS partition formatted, but upon going into Lion and back, it disappeared.
I think ideally what I would like to have is a spare Lion + recovery partition on this drive in case my SSD barfs, then a big NTFS partition to hold my Windows files.  I guess merging the 40G OSX and 160G HFS+ partitions will be ok.  Could the problem be related to MBR having a limit of 4 partitions?  There isn't any data on this drive that isn't backed up, but I would rather do this partition fixing shuffle without having to restore big files.  Any suggestions on how to proceed?

I managed to fix the problem.  First I used Disk Utility to delete the NTFS partition.  It hung during the process, so I quit it, and the partition was deleted anyway.  Next, I used gdisk to change the partition type from 0700 to AF00 and AB00 for the Lion and Recovery partitions respectively.  It worked and I can access the partitions under OSX again.  Thanks, everybody, you've been super helpful.

After I have installed Win2000 or Winxp Pro( first time boot, it pop blue screen with the msg systemroot\system\ntxxx.dll..I have to turn off and and turn on computer, it let me to boot up.) After that, when I restart the computer it boot up with blue screen(Sometimes, it let me boot up without any problem). I didn't install any third party software(OS only). It's weird. Even though, I have installed FAT file system and the result is the same.  I have tested windows 98. It's very stable and no problem at all. Here is my PC configuration
    AMD 950
    MS-6167
    Creative TNT2 Ultra 32MB(AGP)
    Sound Blaster Live
    Sony DVD ROM
    External Modem.
Other than that, I build another PC for my fren here is the configuration

    Winxp Pro
Any clue? Do I need to update bios? But I can't find MS-6167 model bios. How come it's doesn't support win2000 and win xp? I got another PC AMD 1.1 Thunderbird with ASUS A7V. • Problem with  Windows Vista and Ipod!!!!

I tried a couple of times to import my music from my computer and cds to my ipod nano .
The thing is that I know I have transfered some songs and photos properly cause I can see the files are in the ipod memory but as soon as I unplug it from the USB and try to find them in the nano menu it's empty , no music , no photos , nothing...
    What can I do?
Can somebody help me or give me some advice?
    thanks a lot

if you were on an XP or 2000 box, my first thought would be to check for a Windows drive letter confusion, as per:
Windows confuses iPod with network drive or hard drive and may keep iPod from mounting or songs may seem to disappear
i don't have a Vista box at this stage, so i'm not quite sure where Vista keeps its "Drive Management" analogue ... but if you can find that, try changing the drive letter to see if that helps.

  • New MBP 17 inch Problems with Windows Vista, and BF 2142

    Hello!
So I just have 2 little issues that bug the **** out of me. OSX runs flawless. I love it.. But I use Vista to run Battlefield 2142.
So my first issue is the microphone. If I go to close the lid of the MBP, I get feedback from the speakers, and microphone. Even though I have the microphone on mute for Vista, it doesn't mute the microphone all the way.
If I Hook up a headphone to the output jack I can close the lid since it disables the MBP speakers.. But all my tapping and grunting can be heard via the heaphones.
Does anyone know if there is a fix? Or why the **** Vista isn't muting the device properly?
Now my other issue is Battlefield 2142.
I can get it running only when I have a External monitor plugged into the MBP, and the Lid is closed.
If I try to run Battlefield 2142 without a external monitor, and using the Display of the MBP, it crashes.. I have tried a ton of different Resolutions, and it is always the same story each time.
If anyone else has had these issues, and has found a solution, please share.
    Thank you!
P.S Oh, another thing. I have a Quad G5 that I run Logic Pro on. It came out right before the Intel Mac Pro machines. If I sold the G5, and and used this new Macbook Pro, would the Macbook Pro that I now have perform better than my older G5 in Logic Pro?

found a fix. has to do with the ini file... just had to do more searching on google.

  • Printing problems with 10.4 and 10.6 on same airport network

We have an HP LaserJet 1160 connected by USB to a Mac wireless hub (Airport). On the wireless network there are three Mac computers, two of them pre-Intel running OS 10.4 and the third an Intel machine that has recently been upgraded from 10.4 to 10.6. A consequence of the upgrading is that after we have printed to the 1160 from the OS 10.6 machine we cannot print to the 1160 from the 10.4 machines: the printer status window states 'Opening printer connection' for an indefinite period and no printing occurs. On the two 10.4 machines I have updated the 1160 driver to version 2.0 . The work-around is to power-down and restart the Airport hub after printing from the 10.6 Mac and before printing from one of the 10.4 machines, but that doesn't feel like the 21st century! Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Johnny,
Is it possible to put on 10.5/ 10.6?
Nope G3s are left out for 10.5, and every G3,G4, & G4 (PPC) is left behind by 10.6.

  • ITunes / Quicktime Video Problems With Windows VISTA

I took up Windows Vista as soon as it was available and initially had no problems with iTunes. Then later, video clips (those purchased from iTunes and those I had converted myself) started stuttering / freezing and eventually crashing iTunes and finally I lost audio as well.
Ayyway to cut a long story short, I have uninstalled / re-installed Vista now about eight times for problems with installing drivers for USB devices (I've finally solved all these problems). After the last install the first program I installed was iTunes, tried video and it worked flawlessly. Then, each time I added a hardware device or program I would restart Vista and retry iTunes video.
The first item I added was a USB thumb drive (as I had on all previous occasions to take advantage of Vista's 'Ready Boost'). The thumb drive is a 'Sony 2GB micro vault tiny', and meets the transfer speed requirements for 'Ready Boost', as soon as I had set the drive up for 'Ready Boost' I started having the same problems with iTunes video and Quicktime.
Removed the thumb drive, restarted iTunes and had flawless video playback again. Have tried this over and over with the same result.
So my question is, has anyone else had video playback problems with iTunes / Vista and found similar problems. Trying to tie down whether this is a compatability problem with 'Ready Boost' or the thumb drive used. I have also tried a Sandisk Titanium 2GB with the same result.
I am not sure exactly how 'Ready Boost' works, I thought it added memory that was used to cache page files to the thumb drive instead of to the HDD making a faster seek /access time? Which should make things faster. Another article I read today was talking about 'Ready Boost' being an affordable extension to RAM, in this case I could understand the problem as I would think the access to a USB 2.0 thumbdrive would be slower than that to RAM.
Any help appreciated, but I guess my bottom line is anytime I want to watch video on iTunes, I just pull the USB thumb drive .
PC Pentium 4   Other OS   Windows Vista Home Premium

I have the same stuttering video issues with iTunes and Vista. While I have used a thumb drive to transfer files (not Sony) I have not yet messed with Ready boost. I have seen several others complain about the video problem, perhaps they will chime in as well. Unfortunately, your solution doesn't work for me. I pretty much ignore iTunes, waiting for the next version (only god knows when it will be released).
I do have an external firewire drive connected, I'll disconnect later today and see if that has any affect.

  • Installing WRT54G with both Vista and XP OS Access

First, I'm a new member of this forum.
I'm am preparing to update to a new Linksys WRT54G router.  We have one computer (HP 8100N) which has Microsoft Vista Home Premium installed; but our other 3 computers all use Windows XP SP 2.   The Linksys WRT54 G and Linksys Router are all plugged into the Vista machine ---with one other PC (Gateway) and 2 laptops (Toshiba and a Dell) all connecting wirelessly.
RIght now things work ok --- but it's been 5 years since I've made any major changes.  However, I've experienced a rash of virus challenges lately and suspect somehow the router has been compromised; hence my desire to completely change it out.  At the same time, I'm not too excited about creating problems with the Vista and XP connectivity.
Any recommendations would be appreciated. Apology to Forum if this is posted twice; it appeared not to go through the first time.
    Thank you very much

    Chris:
I have experience with both, Vista and XP. I use a MBP 15" 2GB RAM and I have had great success with both. I really no not overload my system. I have software to connect to the internet and full office 2007 Suite. So, mostly internet and productivity software. No major issues with either.

  • Problem with Win 7 x64, WWAN or WiFi card and Windows XP Mode

I have a T500 with switchable graphics (2056-4RU) with a clean install of Windows 7 Pro x64 with the AT&T WWAN card.
With all the Win7 RTM drivers and Access Connections for Win7, I had a problem that the WWAN card (Ericson F3507g, purchased from Lenovo and working flawlessly under Vista 32-bit) would not initialize. Support told me to uninstall the Win 7 versions of the Power Manager Drivers, WWAN card driver and Access Connections and replace them with the Vista counterparts, which restored the functionality of my WWAN card. Based on the speed with which the support tech came up with the suggested fix, I suspect I am not the only one with the disappearing WWAN card problem.
Now I have found that starting the Windows XP Mode virtual machine kills the WiFi functionality (Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN) until I disable and re-enable the WiFi adapter in Device Manager and then restart the system. (I have not problems with XP Mode and with the Win7 drivers / Access Connections opening Windows XP Mode did not cause the problem with the WiFi.) Opening Windows XP Mode causes no problem with the wired network adapter on my system).
Thus it appears that I can have functionality of the WWAN and WiFi adapters with XP Mode using the Released Win 7 versions and functionality of Windows XP Mode together OR I can have WWAN but not WiFi functionality with XP Mode using the Vista drivers that support suggested. However, it seems that I cannot have WWAN, WiFi and XP Mode concurrently.
I reproduced the above XP mode / WWAN problem / WiFi problems on a T500 with Win7 x64 owned by another family member.
Does anyone (particularly anyone from Lenovo) have fix for this?
    Thanks.

for the sim card, try this:
    http://jack.ukleja.com/update-ericsson-f3507g-mobile-broadband-on-windows-7-with-lenovo-thinkpad/com...
I have another operator and I finally gave up. apparently it's also no that easy to install the SIM card, if the plastic thing that helps to remove the SIM card  is not the right position, it will overlap the SIM Card chip.
can't help for the WIFI. I had the problems too with access connection and decided to remove it. I use Seven's network manager, which does an equally good job.
Since I have the switch to turn off the wireless, I don't really need access connection anyway.
Finally, something that I learns while struggling with the bluetooth driver: the order in which power manager, access connection and the different drivers are installed DOES affect their effectiveness. I forgot the details but I remember 2 things:
always read the TXT file that is available on the driver page on the lenovo web site and install power manager and access connection last.
    Good luck
