Problems with WRT54G v8 router

Can't get a stable wireless connection with my new vaio vpcee23fx. It logs on for like 10seconds and disconnects and keeps doing that as long as the wireless switch on the laptop is ON. I have 4 laptops  and a blackberry on thesame wireless and once the vaio is logged on on, all the laptops and the blackberries start have thesame problem.
I can only use the internet when the ethernet cable is connected to the laptop.
Anyone have any idea what am talking about? Need help because I need the wireless to work otherwise the laptop is useless??

my vaio has a windows 7 home edition (source of the problem)
one gateway with windows 7 home edition
one HP with windows vista
one dell with windows XP pro (my old laptop, which still works)
one dell with windows Vista
one blackberry torch
sidenote; when i connected today(on the vaio using the ethernet cable), a message popped up saying another computer had thesame IP address or something....

  • My iphone 5 does not remember the password of my home network. Well this is ot the case with my ipad. The wifi gets disconnected every 2 minutes. Its not any problem with my wifi router as my ipad and other devices work fine. So how do i fix this problem?

Well my iphone 5 does not remember my home network. This is not a problem with the wifi router as the ipad works absolutely fine. The wifi loses it connection in just 2 minutes. So could you please fix this problem.

Not unless the modem is causing a problem.
What you want to do is get it to work reliably over Ethernet first, then tackle wifi. Power off the modem. On your macbook, delete the Ethernet configuration and the Wifi configuration. Power up the modem, then connect the mac via Ethernet. Create the new Ethernet configuration and see if you can connect.

  • Network cable unplugged problem with WRT54G

I just got a WRT54G wireless router recently, and experienced some problems with it. There are 5 notebooks in my network using wireless card and 2 PCs connect to the router through cables. The router is with ver 7.00.1 firmware.
The router is working fine, the problem is sometimes it will show "Network cable unplugged" on my PC, and the whole network will be interruptted, the network will be resumed in few seconds and all machines need to get IP from the DHCP server again. It's quite annoying to be disconnected from middle of the work. I don't know what is the cause, seems like the router is re-reading it's configuration. I have tried to refresh the fireware but with no luck. Someone else got this problem before? anyone has a solution for this? Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Leo

Try the following tips to resolve your problem:
Disable the Ethernet network adapter if you are not using it. This applies, for example, when running a WiFi home network with computers that have built-in Ethernet adapters. To disable the adapter, double-click the small Network Cable Unplugged error window and choose the Disable option.
Check both ends of the Ethernet cable connected to the adapter to ensure they are not loose.
Replace the Ethernet cable with a different one to verify the cable is not damaged.
Update the network adapter driver software from the manufacturer's Web site.
Change the Link Speed and Duplex settings (using Device Manager) to use "100 Mbps Full Duplex" or "10 Mbps Full Duplex" instead of Auto Detect.
    Replace the Ethernet network adapter
    Good Luck,
    Ttech

  • File and Printer Sharing Problem with WRT54G

I am currently having problems sharing files over my network. My setup consists of:
    3 laptops (wireless)
    1 desktop (wired)
    WRT54G V6.0 router with firmware version 1.00.9.
All of the computers have File and Printer Sharing enabled, unique names, and are on the same workgroup. However none of the computers can see one another. When I try to view workgroup computers for my network places, the explorer window stops responding for about 30 sec. and then spits out a dialog with the error:
"Workgroup is not accessable. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available."
I think that this problem has something to do with the router, as I have been successfuly sharing files and a printer with these settings using a microsoft 802.11b router for over a year. After purchasing the linksys and swapping it out with my old router, filesharing no longer functions.
I have spent a little time browsing the forums and have seen other posts from people with simmiler problems, but was unable to find any solutions.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problems as you are, I have 2 computers on wired the other wireless the router is in between and I can't access from either side, although I can ping and remote connect but just cannot share files across the network. I have looked all over the forums too and there saying to ditch linksys and do something else.
Its not you thats caused this it is the firmware and the router that have the problems.
    My Specs:
    WRT-54G
    v5.0
That new firmware update 1.00.9 just isn't working right. I might downgrade my fireware to fix this problem.

  • Internet Connection no longer working with WRT54G V3 Router

I have had a WRT54G V3 router working successfully for a number of years now with a couple wireless PCs through a cable modem with Comcast as my ISP.  All of a sudden yesterday, neither PC could access the internet.  No changes had been made to the router.
I contacted Comcast and they of course had me hard-wire one of my PCs into the cable modem.  That worked and I was able to access the internet.  However, when I tried to put the router back in place (in either a wired or wireless fashion), I could not access the internet.
I've tried following the online Linksys troubleshooting documention.  The lights that should be lit on the router are lit.  I can access the router setup web page which shows the settings still intact.  I've tried going through the power sequencing to no avail.  Comcast says my router is the culprit of my problem, but I don't know why it would all of a sudden stop working.  My wireless printer still works so it detects a signal and my PC shows it's connected, but no internet access is possible.
What do I need to do?  Are there any other diagnostic tools available?  The Chat people won't help because I'm out-of-warranty.
    Solved!

Here's a trick on how to do the reset on the router.

  • WRE54G wireless extender problem with WRT600N wireless router

My Vista laptops work fine with the WRT600N router but not with the WRE54G extender. On the other hand my XP laptop works fine with the wireless extender so I know that both router and extender are working. Linksys tech support told me that the WRE54G is not compatible with the WRT600N, which is simply not true. With my XP laptop the signal goes from poor (5-10 Mbps) without the extender to excellent (54 Mbps) with the extender. Also, the lower blue light on the extender blinks indicating data transmission. I can access the setup page of the extender only with the XP laptop and wired desktop computers but not the Vista laptops. I suspect there is a Vista network setting that is the problem. I've turned off the firewall but to no avail. I've also switched between mixed mode and G-only, which made no difference. Anybody have any suggestions?

I have a secure wireless network (WPA). Perhaps my 4-5 year old XP laptop is the only laptop on the planet that works with the WRE54G-WRT600N combination. But I can assure all the doubters that this laptop categorically works flawlessly when I would otherwise be out of range without an extender. Good luck to spalaw. Please let me know if you are get your WRT160n to work with the WRE54G, especially you're able to connect with a Vista laptop.
    Hi
I am Afraid and wont be surprised if ya all people are nt able to use a N series Router with a G series Range Expander !
the Reasons is simple - N series is not BackWard Compatible as u check out the sources around. (Back Ward Compatible means compatible with the previous versions for its wireless Band , e:g - G band and B band.)
as far as my experience is concerned regarding the Range Expanders , me and my bud wasted a whole Week Configuring a WRT350N and WRE54G v3 , and it worked somehow on the seventh day  for an hour and Lost the connection again! Dayumm !
and we tried setting up with the same expander with WRT54GS v7.2 , it worked like a charm.
Conclusion : " WRE54G is a g series 2.4 Ghz expander which will work fine with all g series router though may not work with N Serious routers."
and if you really wish to Use something which can actually Extend the range for ur N routers signals , Better go for WAP4400N !!!!!!
And if someone still wish to run around , wanna try some tweaks (which i dont preferr )!
for WRT600N , just enable 2.4ghz band . as Range expander doesnt support 5 Mhz.
Use Only standard Channels . e.g : 1,9,3,11 .(No Wide and stuff.)
Try using WEP encryption first . (cause thats how we made WRT350N worked for a while. sighs)
At last , Wish u Luck.

  • Problems with WRT54G and Call of Duty 4 hosts....XBOX360

I have a WRT54G wireless router and an xbox360 hooked up wirelessly to it using the wireless adapter made my microsoft for the 360. The problem is that it is nearly impossible for me to connect to ANY host at all. My internet works fine and I dont have this problem with other games. I'm wondering if anyone can help me out with this. My isp is Verizon DSL, i have a Westell 5100 modem, that is about all else I can think of that may have any importance. Thank you for the help in advance.

Check the firmware of the router ... if possible upgrade the firmware .... Also try to forward the ports on the router setup page ..

  • Problems with WRT54G

this is my problem i have the wire from my modom to my router the internet light is on i have a cable hooked in to the back of the linksys router in the #1 port, the cable in #1 port is then hooked to my desktop pc . i have a WLAN light on  . ok know for the fun part i get a great signal on my laptop so it is seeing the router but will not connect to the internet.i have tried everything i can think of and then everything some websites have said but nothing works so can you tell me what you think is the problem or if it is operater error

I have the same problem with a slight difference - my desktop is connected to the WRT54G through a LinkSys WUSB54GC Adapter - it runs fine.  I have the same problem with a laptop - it can see the router but cannot connect to the internet.  I turned of security settings on the laptop, and have defined a unique SSID.  The laptop continues to see the router but not the internet!  The laptop has been able to successfully connect to a number of different wireless routers.  I have tried every logical router setting to see if the laptop can see the internet and nothing helps.  I restored to factory settings before I defined the new SSID.  Help!!!

  • Problem Using WRT54G As Router/Gateway

Have a home network with following configuration:
Windows 2000 domain with one box acting as the domain server, the DNS server, and the DHCP server.
4 PCs with wired connections to an 8 port hub.  All of the wired PCs point to the domain server for DNS/DHCP.
A DSL modem routed through a sonicwall firewall to the 8 port hub (I don't knw if I'm saying this right, but all wired PC's are routed to the firewall then out to the internet, while all incoming traffic is routed through the firewall before reaching the LAN).
This wired network has worked fine, but we also have a number of laptops with wireless adapters, so we purchased a WRT54G to work with these laptops.
My idea was to just have the WRT54G attached to one of the ports on the hub (with no direct connection to a computer) and have all of our laptops connect to the WRT54G wirelessly, then be routed back and forth using the WRT54G.
Was finally able to set up the WRT54G with only one connection (via one of the 4 ports on the back of the WRT54G) to the (wired) 8 port hub.  Our laptops generally can see the WRT54G, but routing is intermittant at best.  I disabled DHCP on the WRT54G...this seemed to help, but not for long.  I also established a reserved IP for the WRT54G on the DHCP server, but the intermittant problem still keeps happening (seems to route on the laptops for a while, then it just stops).  In Basic Setup, I set the Internat Connection Typt to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP".  IN Advanced Routing, I set the operating mode to "Router" (vs. Gateway).
Can anyone tell from this description where I'm going wrong?  I can get the laptops to see the wireless and route for a short time, but it never seems to keep working (also note that on a couple of the laptops, the network icon states that the laptop was not able to connect to the wireless network...but it's able to route using IE????).
    Thanks for any help!
    Dan

    Thanks Helm.
I had done what you suggested (which is consistent with directions I found last night at directions I've found at http://routersetup.blogspot.com/2007/08/connecting-two-routers-wired.html), but I'm still having some intermittant problems.  My Vista laptop doesn't seem to be having any problems at all, while one of the two XP boxes will connect for (only) a couple minutes after rebooting, and the other XP machine will not connect at all (although it seems to find the wrt54g...it just ends up saying it's having a dns problem).
With this in mind, I think my problem is not necessarily related to the wrt54g now (although we do have cordless phones, but they are 5.4 ghz)....will keep playing with this...is there any limit to the number of laptops that can be connected this way?

  • Macbook Pro Problems with D-Link Router

My router D-link (Dl-624+A, model available in Asia) 802.11g/2.4 Ghz wireless router serves a G5 iMac, a G4 Aluminum Powerbook plus a Windows laptop and desktop. We have never experienced any problems with the network.
I have recently bought a 17" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz laptop (intel MBP) and have not been able, in any combination of modes, to join the network. A dialogue box simply says that there was an error trying to join the network.
I have no problems joining other wireless networks around town its so easy, just the one at home is the problem.
What is going on? Is there a fix? Thanks

Hi, my MacBook Pro can't connect to my D-Link DSL-G604T router via wireless too.
Airport can see my wireless connection and asks for the WEP password to connect. I put the password key in and an error pops up saying it cannot connect. I can connect via an Ethernet cable. Also, my previous system PowerBook G4 is able to connect via to the router via wireless, hence there is nothing wrong with my network.
Based on the suggestions from other threads, I tried to set my security to WPA instead of WEP. However, after I set my security to WPA, and tried to connect to my wireless network, the AirPort popup only gives me 4 options for the Wireless Security:
    WEP Password
    WEP 40/128-bit hex
    WEP 40/128-bit ASCII
    LEAP
There isn't an option to use WPA. Can anyone advise?

  • Problems with linksys wireless router please help!

Me and my 2 flat mates share a wireless network, and for some reasons if cannot connect to it. I have vista home premium and a belkin dongle. We used a Linksys router to begin with, not sure which model, but we recently had to buy a new one because that did not belong to us. I can see the network so the dongle picks up the signal but every time I connect and put in the network key I either get Not close enough to the net work point (the router is about 5 meters away) The network key is incorrect (I created the password and it works on the other two people lap tops) The network has timed out. Sometimes I can connect to the network for a moment then it kicks me off. The connection wizard shows the network at full signal. I’m not sure what the problem is, I have done a full restore on my computer and the dongle was installed onto my computer via the disc it came with. I do have another dongle that is a Linksys one; however it does the same thing. Not sure what the problem is here, can anyone help before I have to go out and buy long network cable and have wires all over my flat i have a heap of work that needs doing this week so any ideas would be really helpfull

I would first try and bring your computer (if possible) closer to the connection point. That way it will have full time to connect. Also sometimes some materials in the walls mess with connections due to the type of material.  Sometimes if your IP address is not quite right you will connect but then get booted offline. Sometimes if you don’t broadcast your ssid you cannot connect. (one of my Visa Networks does this ssid broadcast must be on).
Are you using WPA or WEP because Sometimes WEP is not as stable with some wireless modems/ so changing to WPA might solve your problem

  • Problems with wrt54gs v. 06

I keep losing internet acess on all computers with this router. Now when I hook my old router back up that is a linksys b router it works fine but then i hook the g router back up no internet. I have did the powercycle and it didn't work. I notice the G routers been having this problem.

Ok it keeps disconnecting from my the computer its hooked up too. And I updated the firemware it stayed on for one day. Then i powered up the computer the next day it wouldn't work. and this is all the computer the wired one and the wireless ones (I have a laptop and another desk top connected wirelessly). It just annoying that I have to keep hooking up the b router cause the g one keeps cutting off. I have Windows XP on all the computers. I got the Usb adaptor on the desktop and My dell has the Intel Pro Wireless 2200 b/g card. once I get connection on my computer that has the router hooked up to it I have no problems with the wireless ones.

  • Airport Extreme Problems with 802.11b router

I have a Netgear MR314 LAN and wireless router. I have a G3 iMac and 2 G3 iBooks with Airport Express cards and they work fine with the wireless connection with this router. I have a 12 inch G4 iBook with an Airport Extreme card running 10.4.3. Every time when this iBook connects with the wireless router it works for about 10 minutes and then the router locks up. If I re-set my cable modem and the router then the system will work again.
Because the router only goes up to the speed of 802.11b and not the 802.11g potential speed of the Airport Extreme I know that the card has to run at the slower speed when it connects with my router.
I am trying to determine whether my Airport Extreme card is defective. Any suggestions?

I have updated the firmware in the router and that seems to have fixed the problem.
