Problems with wrt610n and mac mini (MA206LL/A*)

i purchased a new wrt610n and one of the machines that is connected is a mac mini, 1.66 ghz intel core duo.
#ma2066/ll/a for those who want to compare notes. the computer is stock with the 802.11g wireless card
that came with the machine. it is running the current software and all the updates are up to date.
i am using wpa 2 personal w / aes
their is some kind of incompatibility or issue between the wrt610n and the mac mini.
either using the wireless connection OR connected directly to the router, web pages are very slow to load. sometimes it can take
up to 45 seconds for the mac mini to open up a webpage. for 45 seconds it is at 'contacting website'
when  i try to run software update, i get a time out error -1001, make sure you can connect to the internet and try again.
hulu desktop is also running slow.
copying a file from the mac mini to a another computer over wifi averages about 1 mb/s
when i informed linksys about this problem, they took my phone number and said that a linksys technician / senior tech support employee
would call me back. that was a day or so ago. i asked if i can have any newer firmware, considering the latest is 5 months old.
i am considering returning this router, but i don't see a lot of good alternatives that have similar features. i have 21 days to return this. the restocking fee will be 15% i am also considering various 802.11n solutions for the mac mini, even including the dell 1500 wireless mini card, i heard it works as an airport card.
if i do get a different model router i would like external antennas.
my previous router was a 5 year old wrt54gs version 2.0, and it never had a problem with any of the computers with the network.
the trouble shooting steps involved changing the beacon to 75 and the mtu to something else, i forgot. it did not make a difference.
i moved the mini and connected it wired to the wrt610 and turned off the airport wireless card and there was no improvement.
when i disconnected the wrt610n and connected the mac mini directly to my dsl modem. the issues were suddenly gone.
theres some kind of problem with this particular unit. and i would like to hear from others who have solved this or are experiencing
the same probem

  • Problems with bootcamp on Mac mini (Mavericks) late 2009

    Hi all!
The problem I encounter is that I get an error message saying that the files aren't available on the software update server (?). I don't get to the point where to partition the hdd or in my case the ssd.
I have tried with an external 500 gb hdd (FAT formatted in the mac mini) and with windows on a dvd but it doesn't work. I use 64-bit win7 ultimate, but can use any win7 version as long as it works. The mac has 160 gb ssd, 4 gb ram, dvd-drive, connected to the internet.
Can and would some kind soul help me get past this problem?
The error message loseley translates (from swedish to english) into: Can't install the software since it isn't available on the software update server right now.
    Regards
    Pierre

Ok. I now have downgraded to Mac OSX 10.6, made all the software updating and now i get to the partitioning part. Yay! But since bootcam now is 3.0.4 the win7 64 dvd won't boot. I suspect I need the 4.0.4 version of bootcamp to make that work. This is now undergoing.
If anyone can offer an explanation for this tedious task to get wn7 64 on the computr, please feel free to spek your mind. I know I would like to with some guys at apple...

  • Thunderbolt Port problem with (Late 2012) Mac Mini

I am connecting a (Late 2012) Mac Mini to an HP 2311xi monitor with a MiniDisplayPort-to-DVI-D cable plugged into the Thunderbolt port.
After the connection, the Thunderbolt bus Port Status in Systems Information states "No device connected".
However, the monitor works fine, just as well as when I am connected to the HDMI port (but without the blinking screen...).
The problem is that the TB port drops the video signal when I put the Mini to sleep. The monitor will not go into sleep mode (as it does with the HDMI connection) but flashes "No signal" which seems to wake up my Mini's hard drive. It spins up but there is nothing on the screen.
I'd appreciate any help on this, including the mystery of why there is "No device Connected" in Systems Information.
    Thanks in advance.

I thought about your dilemma while ASC was down, that's good news your welcome!
I spent some of the time replacing the 320GB 5400rpm HD in my 2010 Mac Mini with a 500GB Hitachi Travelstar 7200rpm HD. Then moved forward by Restoring Mountain Lion onto it from an External HD, instead of Snow Leopard from the original 5400rpm drive. I really prefer to keep my music and photos on the Internal HD and so I couldn't justify the cost of a larger SSD.
So basically I flip flopped and now running Mountain Lion on a larger/slightly faster Internal HD and Snow Leopard from a FireWire External HD when needed.

  • Using a 1TB G-Drive with macbook and mac mini

After checking the net for solutions, I have decided to post here. Hopefully I haven't missed something as to not be redundant.
Currently I am using time machine to do incremental backups on my unibody macbook to my g-drive wirelessly through my airport extreme via usb.
I ordered a unibody mac mini and I was wondering if I could connect the mac mini to the g-drive via firewire 800 and back up both mac mini and macbook to the one drive.
I know time machine can handle the multiple computer situation, but I don't know if it can handle the 2 inputs simultaneously. USB from the airport extreme and firewire 800 directly from the mac mini.
    Thanks for the help,
    Reardan

Well after experimenting, I found that the mac mini would not recognize the g-drive while it had both USB and firewire plugged in.
So what I did was unplug the usb and shared the g-drive through the mac mini with file sharing.
The issue is now that my macbook does not seem to be able to deal with the new path.
I can view the contents of the g-drive but the .sparsebundle file can not be opened on my macbook. It tries to mount it as a disk image.
Anyways, any insight would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Best USB 2.0 Hub to use with iPods and Mac Mini 2009?

I am using my Mac Mini as my iTunes station, and I have five iPods
that are connected to my master iTunes Station.
Recently I needed to add a USB drive to add more space to the mini.
Along with a wireless keyboard ( that uses a USB transmuting dongle)
I am short two USB ports. Can anyone recommend a good USB hub
that is compatible with iPod Touch, iPod Mini, IPod Shuffle, iPod Classic 30GB,
and iPod Classic 160GB for iTunes synching and charging?

Anyone have any luck with this hub:

looks like the White Belkin one, but is on Amazon for about half the price, and
other than being brown, I don't see a difference?

  • Loss of picture with samsung and mac mini

I just bought a mac mini and tried to hook it up to a samsung flatsceen new'ish tv using a mini dvi cable it worked for about an hour after initially coming up with a blank screen, even on the tv stations, (screen went blue.) Then after turning everything of and starting again the picture came back, also mac mini picture working.
But as I said after about an hour the screen flickered and went to blue again and now we cannot get tv or anything just sound?
    Any suggestions please.

    Thanks for your reply:
I have two cables both supplied by mac when i bought the mini, one short one which goes into the mac and a long dvi cable which goes into the tv one end and the mac mini adapter the other. I will try all the cables again to see if any are loose it is a possibility. I also have booked samsung tech to visit as the tv is still under warranty. He is coming on Saturday which might or might not resolve if it is a TV issue - thanks

  • Problem with en0 on Mac Mini (mid 2011)

    Hi all!
I have a strange issue with the network (en0) on my Mac Mini: it just stops working after a seemingly random amount of time.
I found this line in the system log (repeated hundreds of times):
    Mar 30 20:52:20 Kandinsky kernel[0]: AppleBCM5701Ethernet [en0]:        1        4 timeoutOccurred - logic error in eed/low-power cycling.  fReady, fSleepState
Any suggestions as to what may be causing this? Maybe a hardware issue?
    Thanks for your insights!

Hi Dirk, some things to try...
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

(SMC reset=  Shut down, disconnect power cord for 10 seconds, reconnect power cord, wait 5 more seconds, turn computer back on)
but it is slightly different:   (PMU REST = Shut computer down, disconnect power cord for 10+ seconds, reconnect power cord WHILE SIMULTANEOOUSLY PRESSING POWER BUTTON, let off power button for a few seconds, then press power button again to restart the mac mini.)
See if it's related to this...
It also seems to be related to later OSX versions, like 10.8.x & 10.9.x
The 2012 macs (and later apparently) (also later OSX versions on earlier Macs can do it also), not waking normally from sleep after hours being in sleep. (noted here ...

  • What's the best set up with AppleTV and Mac Mini with 2TB external HD?

    Hi
I have an Apple TV and 2TB external HD connected to my Mac Mini.
I want to stream through my Mac Mini and I want all my media stored in my external HD.
What's the best setting so that I sync only one way to my external HD the contents of my Apple TV? I don't want anything except unwatched media on my Apple TV.
I'm fairly new to Mac world and Apple TV, as far as I read iTunes and Apple TV sync both ways, how do I achieve a one way sync to my Mac Mini with external HD?
    Many thanks

    ali akidil wrote:
Ok that makes it clear, sorry I used wrong terminology,it should have been transfer rather than sync.
You don't want to stop transfers of purchased content. See This User Tip
While on the subject a friend of mine told me that the streaming videos doesn't work well,it kinda freezes and stops but the music stream is fine. Is that true or his set up is wrong?
It's not necessarily his configuration set up that's wrong, it's probably that he has a poor network by virtue of too great a distance or interference from other networks or other household equipment.

  • External usb microphone not working with FaceTime and mac mini with os x Yosemite

    Hello
When I try to do a phone call with face time through my iphone 6 face time is not recognizing my external usb microphone connected to my mac mini. I have just updated my mac mini to os x Yosemite. If I go to the audio system preferences and look to the audio input signal I can see that the external microphone (SB Omni Surround 5.1) is working (audio input level is showing an input signal).
Can someone help. I saw that this was also an issue in the beta versions of Yosemite.
    Thanks.
    BR Stefan

Interesting.  I don't have a USB mic on the Mac Pro.  Its the OLD FireWire 300 iSight.  It works for FaceTime calls but not the iPhone call via the FaceTime app.
I also have 2010 MBP that works perfectly, even since the first Public Beta.  I'm to sure if that mic is considered an external USB device or not, or if it has to do with device signatures vs. external or internal.  I would almost assume that the built-in mic is on the USB bus.  How would it be any different than the external USB.
I think I have to agree that this is a point release bug.  I have submitted a bug report at bugreport.apple.com, and would ask others to do the same, or at least post to apple.com/feedback.  The more noise we make through process the more likely to get a fix in the .1 release.

  • Problems with dvd and mac

When I burn song on to a dvd or cd on computer ( mac intel) cannot play on cd player only on computer.
Is there any way i can play on cd player?

If AHT detects no errors with RAM, try Rember.
One of my Macs was having problems and AHT was not able to detect any problems with RAM. As soon as I tried Rember, it was able to show me the error right away.

  • Problems with Itunes and my mini Ipod

My itunes skips songs, playing them for one second, usually skipping about 4 or 5 before playing anything fully. Is this an Itunes 5.0 problem? I'm using windows XP.
Will I have to uninstall itunes 5 and replace with 4.9?
The problem has also manifested itself onto my ipod, it does exactly the same thing, skipping songs. And now, my ipod won't charge properly. It says it's fully charged and then the battery lasts for about half an hour.
Does anyone know what is wrong?/Have any helpful suggestions?
    Thanks

    Read this:

This may or may not be at the core of your issues, but I would say the chances are good.
I have been told by the moderator here that I don't know what I am talking about regarding these problems, but I beg to differ.
None of these issues were present in 4.9 for Windows. I am seeing some strange behavior in the Mac version too, but not as bad as the Windows version.

  • Problems with Bluetooth and Mac OS X 10.4.4

    Hello all,
I recently installed the the X.4.4 update on my PowerBook, and now it is having problems connecting to my RAZR. When I try to "Rebond" to it, it says an unexpected error has occurred (on the PB), and shows no bluetooth devices. Also, I am using a program called "BluePhoneMenu", and about every 15 seconds, it changes from active, to error. It waits another 15 seonds, and changes back (never connecting to the phone.) Does anyone have any suggestions? I have created a website to show visually what the problem is. It can be found at http://homepage.mac.com/chwebb1
    Thanks,
    -Chris

For some reason, Bluetooth is temporarily working. Is there any suggestion to get bluetooth to work 100% of the time? It is really annoying that is only works intermittently. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Helvetica font problems with DW and Mac OS 10.5

wondering if anyone else has seen this, just upgraded to 10.5
and DW (CS3) doesn't seem to be able to access system-wide
Helvetica fonts. I get odd symbols that require the page to be
encoded in Unicode, but odd symbols still show up, and I can't get
rid of them, even by trying to eliminate them in code view. Even if
I use Arial as default font, DW's inability to access Helvetica
seems to be introducing the symbol problems. I also use Suitcase
Fusion, and they recommend switching Apple's Helvetica.dfont with
Postscript version of Helvetica, since not all apps can access the
.dfont. Since this is a system-wide font that has it's own issues.
Searched help and these forums but didn't see anything about this
online. If anyone has any tips let me know. thanks.

If it happens in a new user you may be able to repair this with the 10.5.4 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • Problems with mail and Mac App Store, can't reinstall mavericks.

I have a 2012 Macbook Air. A while ago, I started getting this message when I tried to open mail.
Also, when I try to open the mac app store, it looks like this regardless of the tab I choose.
First, I tried backing everything up through time machine and restoring my mac, but that did nothing. Next, I tried repairing the disk through recovery mode, but it said everything was ok. Lastly, I tried reinstalling Mavericks through recovery mode, but I got a message saying "OS X Mavericks failed to download. Use purchases page to try again." Of course, I can't use the purchases page because it won't load . The nearest Apple store is 2 hours away, so I'd really like to avoid visiting one, if possible. I would be grateful beyond words for any help. Thanks in advance.
    Lane

Just to confirm, you can boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
When you select to reinstall OS X, what happens?
    Fix for missing MAS
It's possible #1 will do the trick, but you might need to do the additional steps in Keychain access.
    1.  Delete the files /var/db/crls/crlcache.db and /var/db/crls/ocspcache.db. These can be found using Finder’s Go >; Go To Folder menu (Cmd + Shift + G). This resets the cache of accepted certificates in the system. It doesn’t remove them, it just forces the system to rebuild the caches upon restart.
    2.  Open Keychain Access (/Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access). Select Certificates in the Category picker on the left side. In the search bar, type in the word Class. Look through that list, and find any certificates that have a blue + symbol over their icon. These are the ones you need to modify.
Select one that has a blue +, and hit Command + I. Click the disclosure triangle beside the “Trust” list to show the list of permissions. Now, what we need to do is to set this certificate to use the system defaults. However, for some reason, when you select it, it doesn’t save. So what you need to do is this. Under “Trust”, where it says “Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)”, change the dropdown menu to say “No Value Specified”. Then, close the window. It will ask for your administrator permissions. Then, open the info pane for that certificate again. Under “Trust” again, now set the dropdown that says “When using this certificate:” to say “Use System Defaults”. You can then close out of the info pane, and enter your password again. Do this for any of the certificates that have a blue + on their icon. There should only be one or two at most.
(Note: I had to toggle the settings before it would stick)
    Restart your system.
