I don't think that ACR 4.2 will work with Elements 5.

  • Working with RAW files in PSE9:  Doable or better to use PSE12?

I have PSE 9 and will soon get a camera with RAW capability.  I notice that Adobe no longer supports PSE 9.  Am I in for trouble if I don't upgrade to PSE 12 since I don't know how to work with RAW files?  It sounds as if I will need something to convert RAW files?  Where do I get it?  Is it a big deal for a beginner with no software skills?

You can download a free DNG Converter from Adobe and then convert your RAWs to DNGs which can be used in PSE9.
You don't need PSE12, but if you want to purchase PSE 12, you get the most current features in the Raw processor (which in my opinion is a huge improvement over what is available in PSE9), and you don't need the extra step of converting to DNG.

  • Working with RAW files in iPhoto 5.0.4 and Elements 4.0.1

I take photos in RAW mode and download them to iPhoto. When I try to edit the photo in iPhoto, the picture is a tiny little file that is impossible to enlarge with any sort of clarity. Also, the word "RAW" does not appear anywhere on the iPhoto window like I read it is supposed to.
When I drag the file to Photoshop Elements, I get an editing window that has none of the tools usually associated with JPEG files. I get a separate window in which I can darken or lighten the image, that's it.
Clearly, I'm doing something wrong. No one in their right mind would ever use RAW if this is how it works.
    Any ideas?

    Hi Jack!
If you're new working with RAW files, your right, it just doesn't make sense. RAW <imho> is a bit overrated. One thing you will need to keep in mind when shooting in RAW, is you will still need to take a well exposed image. What RAW files will allow are CHANGES in all areas of the image v. JPEG which may allow you to ADJUST a few settings in the image. My only suggestion would be to kepp playing around with PSE until you get the hang of it, it is an excellent image editing software. But realize, a well exposed JPEG and RAW file are hard to tell apart...
Personally, I do not directly download RAW files through iPhoto but will create a folder and download to here, and simply drage folder to iPhoto to import (which are then 'converted' into JPEG files). This way I have the original RAW images safely located outside of iPhoto as well as in iPhoto. You should set Elements as your choice of application to edit files inside iPhoto.
    Good luck, Rick

  • Working with Raw files from newer camera in CS or CS2

I have a Canon 40d camera. I'm still using CS at home and CS2 at work.
In order to work with these files in these earlier versions of PS, I have to first convert them to DNG files. Though not a complete drag, it is a bit time-consuming. Am I sort of stuck with this unless I upgrade to CS3?
Also, (and I realize it may not be off topic), is there any particular reason Canon can't use the same type of RAW file for all the cameras, instead of a new RAW file type, or why have they not embraced DNG support?
    Best, David

    freedda,
I know you have probably read this many times before. But ACR in Photoshop CS3 is vastly improved. There are numerous new controls that provide you with much greater flexibility with your raw images. Unless there are other factors preventing you from upgrading, it is my opinion that you would find the upgrade well worth the investment.

  • Working with Raw files in Aperture

I bought a DSL are camera recently and have been shooting RAW
Naturally my library is filling up with raw files
My question is - when I want to export a very high quality image how do I get it out of Aperture and keep it as a large ihigh-quality image in raw?
The export options that I have - from dragging to the desktop to sharing as-  all end up leaving me with a JPEG image which might only be two or 3 MB. The raw file can often be 10 or 15 MB
So what is the best way to output the full image?

I have a RAW file (22 mbs),  I can see from your helpful guidance that I can go into Aperture/Preferences/Export and set the export format to (for example)  Tiff 16 bit.  When I do that the exported Tiff file is 53 mbs,  sounds like I have a got a pretty full version there with all the information store in it so no compaints.
I have another option, export as jpeg in 'original size'.  When I set that and then  'Share as email', the resulting image is 2.2 mbs.  Do you think a 2.2mb jpeg can be the full high quality image ?
My knowledge of this area, isas you can see, a bit limited. I do understand that if I was sending the image to a printer to get a high quality image, I would send him the 53 mb  Tiff file,   but is the 2.2 mb jpeg a lower resolution cut doewn version of the original  ?

  • Working with RAW files

I have a Nikon D200 and have been taking some pictures in their RAW format (.NEF) and have some questions. It transfers the pictures fine but then does some other weird stuff.
Sometimes, for seemingly no reason at all, when working in iPhoto, it changes the format to a jpeg and while others remain RAW. I looked in my iPhoto Library in my user folder and it looks like iPhoto automatically converts every RAW picture into a jpeg. But in the iPhoto window, sometimes you're looking at the jpeg and sometimes you're looking at the RAW. Is there some way to make iPhoto act more consistently? And can I make iPhoto stop automatically creating a jpeg version of each RAW photo?
Also, I exported some RAW pictures as TIFF's to work with in photoshop. Once there, the pictures only have a dpi resolution of 72 pixels per square inch. That's way too low for my purposes. Does anybody know if there is a setting or something where I can change this?

    Hi BW Lee,
I don't take RAW, but I can get you started with some info to help you out:

  • Working with raw files on an "n" wireless network

i shoot 3k RAW images, and would like to put all my images on a large harddrive accessed via an apple "n" wireless network. am i crazy to think that i can work on RAW files wirelessly in aperture?

Put it this way - if using an external HD for the master files, you should be using FW800 or eSata rather than FW400 or USB2. Any wireless network will be painful in comparison.

  • Problems working with source files

Just downloaded the new 1343 release. Really like the product. But ... working with source files in SQL Developer is my worst nightmare. When I open a source file either from SQL Worksheet or from File/Open menu my PC freezes for an extended period of time. CPU utilization shots up to 100% and stays this high until the tab is open. I am on Windows XPSP2. Help!!!.

We have reproduced your issue. If I open a large plsql program from the main SQL developer window (File Open) option it opens in a second or less. If from within the SQL worksheet, i right click and do a file / open on a small file it open in a second or less. If I right click in the SQL worksheet and do a file/open of a larger plsql program it appears to hang SQL developer.
We are looking into the issue.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Cannot download updates, and I can no longer work with RAW files without them.  Help!

I used to be able to get Bridge to read RAW files, but I cannot any longer.  I think I need an updated plug-in, but when I try to go to help-updates and download them, the message I get for all three (Adobe Bridge CS5 4.0.5 update, Photoshop 12.0.4 update for Photoshop CS5, and Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 Update) is this: "There was an error downloading this update.  Please quit and try again later."  I have tried shutting down and restarting the computer a few times over the course of several days, and have even tried updating my mac software.  I always get the same message.  Please help!  Thank you!!

Ok, Adobe.  I'm having a huge problem with your customer service here.  You list no email or phone to contact you, yet I have spent hundreds of dollars on a product I can't use unless I can get an answer to this question, which appears to be a problem with your system.  I've used the forum, which is the only option you list for contacting you, and have heard no response.  Can anyone please help me?

  • Working with Raw Files in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11

I shoot in Raw format with a Canon EOS 60D, when I import raw files into Elements it first loads Adobe Camera Raw. After working on an image & then opening the file in Elements 11  ( Expert tab ) it offers a variety of options to enhance the image. It seems to be doubling up OR ... my question is , can I import the file directly into Elements 11 & work on it without using Adobe Camera Raw ?
    Thank You

    Classic Directories

Thank you for your reply, I use Adobe Camera Raw to edit most of my photos & then convert to tif. I bought a book called " The Photoshop Elements Book " with tutorials for Elements 11 wich seems to confuse. I have sucessfully imported raw files directly into Elements 11 & worked on them. By doubling up, I meant how much work should I do in Adobe Camera Raw, as it seems everything you need to edit/enhance/convert is in Elements 11.

  • Problems working with linked files in illustrator

Hi everyone, i hope you can help me with this doubt that had given me problems since I started using illustrator. I'm using linked files in illustrator because i'm able to modify the files later, as I do in InDesign too, but in both cases I had have a lot of problems with the links, I don't know if i'm doing something bad, but this is what I do: I create a folder where I place my file (illustrator or InDesign) and the files that should be linked. Whit this i'm expecting of it to work like an html where the links works while they are in the folder, no matter if you move the folder, the links keeps working on the HTML.
But I have noticed that it doesn't work in the same way, because, I had have cases when the links work perfectly, but then i format my computer (Mac) and after that, I open my files againg but the links don't work already. I have exactly the same problem with my coworker, because im trying to edit a file with linked files since the place where it is in the other computer, obviously it opens perfectly there, but in my computer it asked to repair the links, so I select to repair automatically but I ask me to does it manually... So this is getting me tired, because I must repair the links here in my computer to work on it, and when for it get finished, my coworker should repair the links again, and this is going to be always we share files or i format my computer. It is important to mention that my coworker and me use mac with leopard and the same version of adobe (CS4).
So, as I said before, i dont knoe if my method is incorrect, should I do something different? any option to activate? or program that I should use? because I have herd a lot of Adobe Bridge, I don't know if this could have a option that could help me.
I hope finally somebody can help me with this doubt, because im sure that I'm not the only one having thie problem.
    Thanks for your help

Hi. I am also experiencing this very annoying problem. Currently using version CS2, but this problem dates back to version 9.  I check the box to link a tif file, not embed it, in Illustrator. All is well until I save and reopen the file. Suddenly the file is embedded. No other changes have been made to the folders or anything else. It just embeds itself and cannot be linked again.
So far, I conclude that something in the file itself has corrupted, because it is not possible to place a new file and have it link correctly again. So if I anticipate more changes, I create a new file.
Notice the upper left corner of the top toolbar. If you click on a file that has embedded itself, the file will be identified as "Group" instead of "linked file."
I've tried all kinds of things, like trying to ungroup it, trying to release a clipping mask, and so forth, to see what went wrong. Have not figured it out.

  • Working with RAW Files and JPG

I have a high end digital camera that takes pictures in RAW format as well as JPG format. When I import the photos, it only imports the JPG format. Is there a way to import RAW photo's into iPhoto?

It does (and should by default). However after it stores them in the ORIGINALS folder, it creates a .jpg copy in the MODIFIED folder and uses that by the looks of things. (Use Spotlight or Finder to see if you've actually imported any raw's).
You should see the RAW's displayed in the iPhoto window after import. If not, check the connection settings in your camera menu ... and make sure you are using a program or creative mode (my 20D does not take raw's in the preset or Green mode).
To work on RAW's you'd need to go Adobe Photoshop with Adobe Camera Raw (incl.in CS2) or Apple Aperture.... now significantly cheaper.

  • How to work with raw files from Nikon D600 in Lightroom 3

I need to know how to process my raw files from my Nikon D 600 camera in Lightroom 3.6 and Photoshop 4?
Message title was edited by: Brett N

Support for the D600 was added in Lightroom 4.2.
Updates are no longer released for Lightroom 3. The final update, 3.6, did not support the D600, so you cannot open raw files from this camera natively.
You can use the DNG Converter to change your NEF files into open source DNG files that will open in any version of Lightroom, including 3.

  • Help! Can't get DNG Recover Edges to work with RAW files from Olympus E-M5.

I've imported the RAWs into LR 4.4 (on a Mac), converted to DNG and run the plug in as directed.
Then I go into the develop module and select crop, then click "Reset."
    Nothing happens!
    What am I doing wrong?
I can see the missing image data in the import module, but can't recover it.

Thanks for your link but i don't think it has something to do with relinking libraries since i never had to to that on my first machine. I'm currently pursuing a different approach: I'm comparing the files used by ccpd and cups on both machines with each other. These are the results:
On the machine with working capt service:
    http://pastebin.com/Fyif7zxz
    http://pastebin.com/n0KQj14z
On the machine with defect capt service:
    http://pastebin.com/rtUW5Gfm
    http://pastebin.com/vh94E3Jv
One thing that i noticed is the two libraries resolv and nss which are used on the defect machine. Could it be that?

  • Iphoto began running slow right after the last update. I'm working with raw files. when I have an open moving from photo to photo some times it slows way down, Never did prior to last update. Thanks

iphoto is running slow at times. This never happened until I installed the the last update. The program gets slow when I have an event open moving with the arrows back and forth.  It doesn't make a difference in full screen or smaller

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import a number of raw image files and test to see if the same problem persists.
