ProBook 4530s metal casing has leakage current while charging

Hi,
Recently purchased probook 4530s works fine. Only when it has to be connected to the charger the metal casing gives a very uneasy fealing of leakage current and is very annoying. Have searched the internet and found this problem common in HP models with metal body. Big name is going to get a big hit with this annoyance. Kindly help if anyone has found a specific solution or HP has provided with a solution to anyone.

try this:-
Perform a Dry Boot on the unit.
a. Shutdown the computer.
b. Disconnect the AC adapter, any externally connected device like External Hard Disk, External CD Drive , Pen Drive and remove the battery. Make sure there is no disc in the drive either.
c. Press the power button down for about 45-60 seconds.
d. Reconnect the AC adapter and not the battery.
e. Restart the computer
PURPOSE: This will discharge any residual charge present in the unit completely

  • Ipod has possible short while charging.

When I hook up my 8G 2nd generation ipod Touch by usb cable the back of the unit feels like it has a "static like" short. It makes it feel like your finger tips "stick" to the unit or vibrate real fast as you move your fingers on the back of the unit. I have used the cords from other ipod devices and plugged this unit into the usb ports on different computers with the same results. When the unit is not plugged in to the usb port it "feels" fine and operates normally. I have a 30G 2nd generation classic and a 120G 6th generation classic and do not have this issue. Any advice would be appreciated.

First off, 5 VDC is not going to cause this (that is all the voltage carried by this cable). However, a bad ground, open neutral, or reversed ground/neutral at the outlet you have this plugged into could give you exactly this. Since you didn't state your location in your profile, it is not easy to give you advice on how to proceed.
Simple circuit testers for wall (or mains) are available. I suggest you get one of those and check the outlet. In the meantime, you should change your charging location.

  • Current leakage/electric shock while charging

I just own the Macbook Pro Retina Display for a few days and everytime I'm trying to charge it with the supplied charger, the metal casing has feel of electrical shock! I encountered this at all location regardless of power sources, from various countries  in hotel and at home.
If I use the power plug adapter that has 3 pins adapter with extension cable, it will eliminate the problem as it has ground contact on the adapter. However, the 3 pins or 2 pins adapter that direct attach to the power adapter without extension cable does not come with ground contact. I would not want to bring the extension cable everywhere.
I approached Genius Bar but was told that it is normal. I couldn't accept the answer as this "normal" condition is greatly impacting Apple product user experience! I'm ok if Apple could replace my 3 pins adapter with a grounded pin and stay with the problem with 2 pins but not asking me to accept the fact that "it is like that, we can't do anything" or a defective product.

    Hi Casper-Tech
I am also the owner of the new retina display macbook pro and just few days after the purchase, i realised that it passes me electricity shock whenever I glide my fingers on the aluminium chasis body, especially the metal next to where we plug in out power (below the screen).
This happens when I use the 3 pin plug directly to the magsafe 2 whilts this problem is gone when I use the extension cable.
I have contacted Apple Care and they also said that this EXTREMELY WEIRD phenomenon is normal with the 3 pin plug as there is no grounding on the plug while the extension cable does have it.
I also realised that there is a difference between the 3 pin plug and extension cable, the latter has 0.5 A less fuse compared to the extension cable. Maybe this has caused the leakage of the electric current.
Meanwhile, I just intend to bring the machine and the plug to Apple Service Centre to have it look at and check whether there is a damage on my macbook pro.
If you feel unsatisfied/uncomfortable with this issue, you can get yourself a 3 pin plug with higher fuse rating or you can ask for a refund. That was what the Genius Bar suggested me.
Cheers. I bet there are many people with this problem but they just don't realise it yet.

  • Image on screen while charging for the first time

We received 2 phones today and one has black screen while charging and the other has a bright green image that says downloading and Do not  turn off Target!!!  Is something wrong??

This is why I make a verizon store activate and turn on my phone the first time. I recommend you do the same.

  • Keyboard has like "intervals" between keys HP PROBOOK 4530s

    LAPTOP: HP PROBOOK 4530s
You know how you hold down the "down arrow" key to scroll down web pages? if i held it down, all it does is scrolls once. And when i type "qwertyuiop" at normal speed, this is the result "qwtip". Weird cause the missing keys work. Theres just something like intervals between keys pressed in a second i guess? has this happened to you guys?
This is the 3rd time it happened. Tried to talk with HP customer service, they didnt even know what to do. Only had the laptop for a couple of months.

Just so you know, I experienced the same thing for the first time tonight. On rebooting it worked fine, but I did notice the fan was kicking into high gear just before the keyboard started flaking out.  My probook is about two weeks old, I applied the most recent bios update to it the day I set it up.  Did anyone ever get a satisfactory resolution for this, or is this one of those kind of things where new mainboards are quietly replaced on a per complaint basis.
What I did notice as unusual when setting up this laptop is it hung up while it was unpacking software.  I had let it go for about an hour thinking maybe it had a lot of stuff to install, but 5 hours later it was still at the same spot.  Forcing it off by holding down the power button and starting it up again, everything set up normally.  I was worried I had a lemon right off the bat so I ran full diagnostics on the hard drive and ran a memory test without any faults found, so chalked it up to crappy software development.
I think it's eat related, even though this thing doesn't seem to be running that hot.  CPU-Z shows my CPU is hovering around 42-43 degrees.
I guess now I know why these things are now being sold at near rock bottom prices.

By hanging do you mean it just gets very slow to respond? This only happens when you plug in the charger? I would make sure all your drivers are up to date. Do this happen when the computer is running off battery?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59001-59500/sp59291.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, download and reinstall the Chipset driver on the following link.
    http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp52001-52500/sp52145.exe
When the reinstallation has completed, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' ( or Speakers/HP ) once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • HP Probook 4530s IDT High Definition Audio Codec Speakers

    As the title states:
    HP Probook 4530s
    Windows 7 OS
    IDT High Definition Audio Codec
The laptop quit playing through it's speakers, but will play through the headphone jacks when plugged in.  Tolerated it for about 8 months now.  Recently, while playing with it I noticed that if the System is set to headphones and you double click on the slider it begins to play through the laptop speakers for approximately 1 second.  You have to keep double clicking to maintain sound through the speakers.
Now, when I go to Speakers/HP Properties it shows that the sound is to the bottom 3.5mm jack & front 3.5mm jack.  This laptop has NO bottom 3.5mm jack on it, only the front 3.5mm jack.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, looked for new drivers and thought about installing an old driver but not sure how far back to go.  Any suggestions would be a great help here.  If you need more info please let me know what you need and where to find it and I'll provide it.  Now that I know the speakers actually do work, I'd love to be able to use them again.

Now to help out with troubleshooting this here is a pic and what I think is going on:
Notice that the jacks are allegedly on the bottom and front for the speakers, only issue is there is no jack on the bottom and the front jack is for the headphones.  the 10-18-2012 update that HP is tossing around ignores the fact that there is no bottom jack for the HP 4530s, g7, pavilion and dv7.  I've had all of these over the years.  It seems someone wrote a driver that is one size fits all and totally missed that these speakers are located someplace else.
So the question is, how do we reassign the location so it puts sound to the speakers?

  • My iphone4 have leakage current phenomenon, design problems?

When my iphone4 charging with the data cable
    It often electric shock me
    Not always so
Especially the headphone jack、mute switch and metal antenna
    why?
    The design problem?
    How to solve?

When using the supplied Apple charger do you have any problem? The apple supplied charger has a very low leakage current of about 30uA when connected to the phone.
If you connect your phone to a PC or Mac and you get a shock this indicates the leakage current of the connected device must be high, it does not indicate a fault with the iPhone!
Sometimes the design of a power supply means you may feel a shock for a moment when contacting the metal parts, but this is more like a static discharge effect as the power supplies internal capacitances discharge. If the tingle sensation continues you may have a higher than normal leakage current form the mains power supply.
Given you mention you have a notebook (PC non Apple I assume) then maybe your power supply is not as good as it should be. Try to measure the current between the metal chassis of the power supply and earth using a amp meter (multimeter set on mA). For a class II double insulated power supply there should be less than 250uA (0.25mA). For an earthed, class I, power supply it should be less than 3.5mA.
If it is an earthed power supply and you get a shock then either the earth to the power supply has broken or your mains outlet (or entire dewling) may have no earth! If so call in a professional electrcian ASAP!

  • Bluetooth radio missing, not found in device manager - Probook 4530s

I have a Probook 4530s with Windows 7 Ultimate, 64-bit installed on it. A little while ago I wanted to use bluetooth for networking, but thee was no bluetooth adapter in the Network Connections window. I looked in Device Manager next, thinking maybe there was something wrong with the driver, but no bluetooth adapter showed. I've tried rebooting, turning it off and on in BIOS, and even just pressing the wireless button, but nothing has worked.
Along with Windows, I have Mac and Ubuntu installed. Bluetooth dooesn't work on any of the operating systems, but it used to.
Any help with getting my adapter working again would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Its more than likely Ubuntu that has caused the problem. I can't say for sure though as I've never used the model of laptop you have. With the WiFi/Bluetooth portion of the hardware its not just a driver that keeps the hardware running correctly, there is a firmware as well. I managed to kill my WiFi card for a while when I was messing with Linux OS's.  Find out the precise model of the bluetooth adapter on your laptop (it may be a WiFi/Bluetooth combo card?) then start searching the Linux communities for information about the firmware for the cards.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.

  • ProBook 4530s MousePad Is Giving Me Problems

Hi, I purchased a ProBook 4530s three days ago and I immediately noticed that the mouse pad is almost useless. The pointer bounces around the screen while I'm trying to scroll, sometimes the pointer just sits there even while I'm  undoubtedly touching the pad. I get the adjust screen size thing A LOT without me making the gestures to do so. I have to press on the mouse pad significantly harder than any other mouse pad I've used before in order for it to react. It's truely annoying and I don't know if I can deal with it. Its actually kinda terrible...It's disappointing because the laptop its self is great but the mouse pad is awful....This problem alone has me contemplating on returning it. What should I do?

    Anybody?

  • Probook 4530s keyboard problems

We have a probook 4530s that the keyboard has started randomly on it's own typing in caps and duplicating characters.  The caps lock is not on when this starts happening, and the user has a hard time getting it to stop.
Any suggestions for what is causing this?

I got my 4530s 2 months ago and the keyboard problems started right away. The keys that are used in gaming to direct my character were repeating causing my character to to be very eratic. As the keys spring back into place and the game was just updated, I thought the problem was in the game. After finding out that there was no problem in the game, I called HP and they sent a new keyboard. Problem solved? NO! The new keyboard was better, but still had the same basic problem AND I could see key repeats in MSWord. Called again, had trouble convincing the girl rep that I knew what I was talking about, but they sent another. Fixed?  NO! The new keyboard is slightly better, but the problem still exists. While typing this I experienced for the 1st time the caps issue. If there is a resolution, I hope they come up with it soon. This is very frustrating. F.Y.I.  I spent 30 years in the computer industry.

  • Electric current felt on surface of macbookpro while charging

While Charging my MacBookPro the entire metal surface conducts current. The same thing happens with the metal part of the charger also.

I've experienced this myself. With the same system that DOESN'T show these symptoms 9.8 times our of 10.
In my experience, this is usually the case when you're using power that is badly grounded to begin with.
Look into that first. This sort of  issue is something easily missed and shows up more easily when using Macs and not other gear precisely because of the metal casings! You'll lkely find that this is an issue with the power being used that needs to be tended to one way or another, but that you otherwise would have remained unaware of until an unlucky, lethal exposure!
    Answer:
I have exchanged my Macbook twice with Apple and in bothe machines it is the same.
All people I know who use a Macbook have this problem.
I also talked to a Apple Support consultant for the University, and he said that all Macbooks since about 4 years or longer have this problem that they usually conduct an electrical current through their entire metal body, and it is not healthy.
He himself uses an old 17 inch MacBook, which did not have this problem when it came out already a long time ago, and he doesn't want to sell it, and he doesn't want a new Macbook.
None of my other Windows notebooks ever had this kind of an unhealthy and dangerous problem that electric current would flow through them.
The Macbook has this problem constantly without a break as soon as it is attached to the adpater and electric mains.
