Probook 455 G1 overheating CPU

Hello,
I have an HP Probook 455 G1 with an AMD A8-4500M processor which I bought about a month ago. However, the CPU runs very hot, even when idling, at 96 degrees Celsius most of the time. I've had the problem since I bought it, but I decided to take action now.
What should I do?
Thanks in advance,
Speedbird737

My HP Probook 6450b keeps overheating and turning off  When im watching a youtube video or playing Dolphin Emulator the fan gets very hot and soon it will just shut off i need help......

Your laptop needs internal cleaning,  dust builds up in the heatsink and fan which prevents proper cooling.  Try HWmonitor to check temperature of the processor/cpu .  Cpu cores should be under 70c, 40-50c is normal without doing much on it.
The best way to remove dust is to disassemble the laptop as blowing air in will only push dust everywhere else inside.  Disassembling laptops is quite tricky as many things are stacked in such a small space, also parts are sensitive to electrostatic discharges. If you are not used in doing it, I would go to a reputable computer shop to do it.  A quality thermal paste would be a good idea to be applied while the laptop is disassembled to get maximum heat transfer between processor/graphic card and the heatsink.
If you feel confident to do it yourself, I could be of help if you need it

EDIT:  Luckily for you, you should only remove the keyboard and switch cover to get access to the fan,  from there you will be able to remove the fan and remove dust from the fan and heatsink, be sure to check the fan thoroughly since "hairballs" often sneak in there.  Check page 99 of the manual for disassembly

  • HP Probook 455 G1 dts+ audio software & mute button light change missing on Windows 10

Dear Support! I upgraded my probook from win 8.1 to win 10 home and i have a few problems in relation with the audio. 1. In win 8.1 the audio driver has a dts+ software (if i remember good for the name) which can optimize the sound with effects and eq etc. The notebook sounds good with this but in windows 10 i can get this and the quality of the sound is much worse. In addition in the device manager on win 8.1 the audio card names as IDT High Definiton audio but in win 10 it is "High Definition Audio Device". I don't know whethet that matters. (also has an amd high definition audio device, but if i know good its the hdmi audio) So I want to ask how can i get this to win10. 2. The audio mute button in win 10 doesnt change color -the wifi button does it- from white to orange if there is a change. The funcionality is working so it mutes the sound. So i would like to get some solutions about that, i tried to download drivers from hp support but i didnt see anything for this. Thank you for your answers, Akos ConfigHP Probook 455 G1 with AMD A10-5750M APU

  • HP ProBook 4510s continuously overheating

    So, what's there to say.
Ran Windows 7 for about a year on this laptop for college, until I wanted to get back into using Arch again.. so now this laptop is continuously overheating when running Arch.
    It's a HP ProBook 4510s with Intel 5100 wifi, 320GB harddrive, 2.2GHz T6670 processor Core2Duo, 3GB DDR2, ATi Radeon Mobility 4330.
What bugs me is that it overheats because for some reason during the initialization of the kernel all my fans get turned off..
the modules I have loaded on runtime are these modules: http://home.deds.nl/~xanderbos/linux/install_mods.txt
I just wish I knew what I could do to alleviate these issues and get it to run normally, as suggested on the IRC channel I have installed the cpufreq-utils and use an ondemand cpu governer on my setup. I'm just really stuck on fixing it and I don't know what else to do.
    Greetings,
    Xander (Zandaa)

    HeSaid wrote:
    1. acpi-cpufreq does not show in your modules list.
You should add it to the modules line in /etc/rc.conf
    MODULES=(acpi-cpufreq)
    2. Also in /etc/conf.d/cpufreq you should have this
    some configuration here
You need to set the min_freq and max_freq for your processor.  Get that information from
    cpufreq-info
    3. Add cpufreq in your /etc/rc.conf
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng dbus hal cpufreq !network netfs crond wicd kdm)
    Reboot
That should resolve any cpu heat caused by running max speed all the time.
    Neal
Hey Neal, thanks for the reply, I already actually have all that setup and done, except my processor keeps overheating because the fans just refuse to turn on when needed..
The nasty thing is, it overheats when I'm running nothing at all and am not even running the X-Server yet..

Hi, I bought a refurbished Probook 6570b running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. It seems it doesn't come with the core cpu but rather a celeron B840 1.9GHz. Nor has it a discrete Graphics unit.

I can watch full HD videos on youtube for example, but when i try to play it on windows media player the video shatters and lags and I simply can't watch it. I found what seems to be a solution, Some people said i have to upgrade the CPU to a dual core 2.0ghz.. • Compaq CQ5-366SA overheating CPU

    Hi All,
Not too sure if any one can help me but will give it a go.
I have been asked to look at compaq CQ57 laptop as it overheating.
I have taken it apart and removed all the dust and applied new thermal paste.
It was runs OK but to make sure dust was at fault, I have decided to run a stress test(intel test utility).
All was going well until stress test. It shut down almost instantly! Tired another tool(intelInburn) with the same result.
I have then decided to take it apart once again and apply new thermal paste. Run the same test and I though it was all sorted as it run much further then before. However, few minutes later the same happened.
Checked temps and it goes all the way to 90C which is max for this CPU.
Tried different BIOS and Windows settings but no luck.
I have also tested RAM overnioght and MEMTEST did not show any errors.
    Is it faulty CPU then?
    Can anyone suggest anything else?

  • [SOLVED] What do do about overheating CPU?

    I kept getting
Package temperature above threshold, cpu clock throttled.
so I thought I'd set the maximum cpu frequency from 3700000 to 2700000 which should basically disable the turbo boost by intel. I tried
    cpupower frequency-set -u 2700000
as it is suggested in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CP … requencies.
    However doing
    sudo cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/*/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
after a reboot still gives back 3700000. Did my change via cpupower not take effect? Is the command I used for checking the current maximum frequency wrong?

Thank you for the hints. By the way the machine is a T440p with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4800MQ. The machine is about 4-5 months old.
I cleaned the fan but the overheating is still happening. I've got not thermal paste at hand at the moment. Frankly, I expect this not to be necessary for a machine of this age.

For testing I started burnP6 from cpuburn 4 times (quad core) and so far it seems as if the overheating occurs very quickly after I started the burnP6 programs i.e. when the fan is still accelerating and did not reach the rpm level on which it stays roughly constant. Once it reaches that level no overheating messages occur. Could it thus be that something is wrong with the sensors/the fan in the sense that the fan reacts too late? If so, what can I do about it?/ Is this controlled by the OS or is that completely hardware bound?

  • Battery life HP Probook 455 G1

    Hello,
I have recently bought a HP laptop (the model of the title).
    Its specifications are :
    CPU:AMD A10-5750M (2.50 GHz)
    RAM:6144 MB DDR3
    Graphics Card:AMD Radeon HD 8750M (2048 MB)
    Battery:6 cell, 47 Wh
    HD:750 GB SATA 5400 rpm
My Operating System is Ubuntu 14.04. And my battery lasts about 2 hours..The truth is that I expected something better.
But, I would like to ask you, if that is normal or am I missing something?

I am also a Linux user. I prefer Kubuntu but it is based on Ubuntu. I do have to use Windows for most things but have a Linux dual boot. Linux has always consumed battery power more quickly than Windows. Laptop power management has always been a weak place for Linux and I have been using it since about 1999. Recent versions (and I think you have the latest stable version) are getting better with each release.
Many power management settings that are automatic in Windows have to be implemented manually in Linux, Here is a good article about it:
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PowerManagement/ReducedPower
    Quoting from the article:
"There are many ways to reduce power consumption and extend battery life in Ubuntu. By default, most of these are not enabled because they are unreliable. With a little experimentation, you can get your power consumption down to a minimum."
You can do some simple tweaking of battery settings just by clicking on the battery or power icon in the toolbar and checking the GUI settings that are available. The biggest single thing you can do is reduce screen brightness to the lowest level you can work with.

Well basically summarised by the header. MBPro got overheated CPU more than 70 Deg and both fans avove 6000rpm while less than 5 mins into the game. Anyone having the same probs ? Any advise on how to overcome this and enjoy a game on such an advanced machine ?

Yes. When working hard it will heat up fast. As long as the fans are able to stabilize the temperature so it doesn't continue to rise, the machine will be fine. If the fans can't keep up because the ambient air temperature in your room is too high or you're resting the MBP on a soft surface that prevents air from circulating underneath it, it will shut itself down for its own protection before it overheats.

How long it will last? Predicting the future is a neat trick. If I could do it, I'd be responding to this post from a mansion, instead of an apartment.
Sound quality on ALL laptops is poor. If you're serious about sound, you buy speakers.
Still undecided? Flip a coin, bro. You're thinking too hard.
I'm fairly certain he's connecting to external equipment, so he's probably asking about the quality of the onboard sound card when used for "line out" purposes.
That said, onboard sound tends to be crappy in general, so I would strongly reccommend an external USB interface.
As to Sony vs. Asus - Sony has a bad habit of using oddball proprietary parts and technologies specific to Sony.  For example, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sony unit has a built-in Memory Stick reader instead of an SD/SDHC reader.  (I haven't looked at the detailed specs.)  I am, in general, not a fan of Sony and avoid buying Sony products whenever possible.
