Probook 4740s motherboard

Hi!
My laptop has a problem with the motherboard. Whenever I press the power button, only ventilation works. Nothing appears on the screen. just restart it every 5 seconds.
how can I solve this?

This is funny cause every word they`ve told you is similar to what "HP Help and support" application says in it`s "Before updating to Windows 8.1" article, except of rolling back to previous operating system. I recently purchased a brand new desktop for my family - HP EnvyPhoenix 810-001 er - and "HP help and support" app told me the same thing about updating to Windows 8.1. HP ProBook 4740s is not the lates one, but HP EnvyPhoenix 810 is the latest. Why do they not care about their latest products???
It seems like HP doesn`t care about desktops and laptops anymore and is switching their priority to tablets. This could be reasonable cause of rapidly growing tablet pc`s market. But it is unfair to other HP customers.
I`ve been with HP scince their first appearence on Russian PC market when first pieces of their equipment were simply imported from UK, France, Germany etc. My HP Compaq nx 7300 still works and I `ve updated it to Windows 8 recently.
I would have never ever thought that HP would have such problems with low-quality techsupport or anything else in their company.
I`ll try to reach our Russian Call center of HP TechSupport as "HP Help and Support" app is providing it`s number, but I think the answer would be the same.
Meanwhile lets get in toucn via this forum on any updates that might help us to resolve our issue.

I can't help you with that specific issue, but I would just call HP at this number 1-800-334-5144, and order a set of recovery disks for your notebook.
You will need to provide the model # and serial number.
Since the notebook is presumably under warranty as it is new, HP normally ships the recovery disks at no charge.
When a PC is out of warranty one pays $10 for a set.

Windows 10 drivers for HP Probook 4740s

Hello, I though about upgrading from Windows 7 (downgraded from Windows 8.1) to Windows 10, but the requirements checker from Microsoft didn't tell me much (nothing, to be precise). When I took a look at HP drivers page for Probook 4740s, I found out there are actually only drivers for network and Intel Rapid Storage for Windows 10 (64-bit). Does HP plan to support Windows 10 for Probooks 4740s? Or should I use Windows 8.1 drivers? Thank you for replies

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! You could try using the Windows Update Troubleshooting tool to fix any updates that have not come through for Windows 10. Please restart the Notebook twice to make sure all update have been completed. Here is a document that shows how to update drivers that are not working correctly with Windows 10. All drivers for Windows 8 should work fine for Windows 10. Here is a download for the Fingerprint scanner for Windows 10. sp71729.exe should work for you. Go to the Control Panel, Programs, HP SimplePassScroll down to Enroll Fingerprints. Click and enroll your finger prints. Deleted the old fingerprints in SimplePass and enrolled new ones. Now if you go to the Settings App, Account , Sign in options there will be an option to sign in using Windows Fingerprint. You can add finger prints from there . Restarted the Notebook and sign in using Fingerprint scanner. I hope this helps. Thanks.

Second HDD instead DVD HP ProBook 4740s

Hi I need help, how to add second hdd instead dvd HP ProBook 4740s.
I have:
Windows 7 pro
Second HDD WD (disk Initialization - GPT)
HP Probook 4710s 4730s 4740s HDD Caddy
The problem is that the laptop does not see it (second hdd), judging by the feeling it works. If it rearrange the main slot for HDD - hdd works and windows can be seen it.
What can be forced by the problem?

How to recover BIOS Admin password on HP ProBook 4740s?

Hi,
Unfortunately, business machines such as Probooks or Elitebooks have more stringent security than consumer models - they don't produce 'halt codes', the password cannot be derived from the Serial No. and the code is stored in non-volatile memory so removing the RTC cell will not reset the password in this case.
If you Contact HP Business support they should be able to send you a customised SMC.bin file which you can use at boot to reset the password.

Caps lock flashing (hp probook 4740s)

Hello i'm new here with an annoying problem
couple of months ago i had an issue with bios (product informantion not valid) this issue appeared after i tried to install windows 7 but failed but after 100000 attempts i finally got windows 7 on my laptop and yea everything was fine until some weeks everytime i press on the power button my screen stays black and my caps lock LED flashes and after some seconds my fan goes on max. rotation i dont know what to do.. but this might be a BIOS authentication failure
i am not sure.. i hope someone can help me out i would really appreciate it

Help. Need to find equivalent of HP Probook 4520s motherboard.

I have HP Probooks 4520s. One fine day laptop stopped working. Warranty is out and service (not HP authorised) told that there's a problem with graphics chip. I thought that the best way is to by motherboard, but there's no such models. In my city there are no authorised service centers from HP, so I think the best way is to buy mainboard on ebay.
On the label on the motherboard was written 628795-001, but there's no such models on ebay, there's 598668-001 and it's also from HP 4520s!
HP Partsurfer says that my (628795-001) motherboard is
SPS-BD SYS DISC PARK S3 W/RTC BTRY 15
and
598668-001 is
System board (motherboard) - Discrete graphics subsystem - Includes RTC battery.
I thing that they could be interchangeable, but I'm not sure. Both of these motherboards are part of HP 4520s. HP Partsurfer cannot suggest anything to replace my motherboard with and I have no idea what to do. I don't know if all the holes, dimensions? slots and system stats on these system boards are the same, so I hope anyone could help me to solve this problem.

How to reset BIOS password on HP Probook 4740

My son blocked BIOS with administrator password and now I can't logon to BIOS and change boot order. Tried to register at support, but h20565.www2.hp.com timed out from my place. Please, inform me, how to pass password recovery procedure and reset password? Son forgot password and we can't boot from any other device, but hard drive. If Windows will broken, we can't recover it by boot CD. Please, help.

ProBook 4740s - AMD Radeon HD 7650M

I need to make a basic video card - AMD Radeon HD 7650M. And Intel subsidiary. Some programs think that Intel is the main card.
Or I need to upgrade AMD Radeon HD 7650M to Catalyst 14.9, right now I have 13.152.1.9002 driver. From AMD I cant upgrade, my graphics adapters doest work when I do these.
One more, when I instal my system I install only one driver its AMD Video Driver and Control Panel and Intel Video Driver and Control Panel doesn't . Why? I rty to download driver fom my Intel HD Graphics 4000 from intel site and it also doesn't instal. Thanks

This driver installs the drivers for both the AMD and Intel GPU's.
Never install the standalone Intel HD graphics driver or allow Windows Update to install a newer Intel graphics driver, or the switchable graphics in your notebook will no longer function.

I can't upload new BIOS f.40 on my Probook 4740s

Hi. I can't upload new BIOS or older BIOS on my laptop. why? How can I fix it? I bought a new laptop from store with windows7 in it, but it doesnt work correctly. I downloaded a new BIOS f.40 from HP site, it showed me, that BIOS instaled in my pc is F.01. I find out, that it isn't for my computer. maybe that because I cant upload new BIOS? So, how can I solve this problem? I downloaded a programe for BIOS to flash BIOS from usb stick, but I couldnt finde BIOS F.40 right for that program.

There is a F.40 version of your notebook's BIOS. Here is a direct link.

New HP Probook 4740s with Raedon HD 7650M adapter 2Gb ram Premiere says adapter not compatible?

This adapter is shown as compatible with the Macbook Pro and I have updated the drivers which made no difference.
Can anyone help on getting this running or providing a switch to bypss video checking.

Probook 4740s battery not charging, OS lies! ;)

greetings all, and HP . for a while now my laptop refuses to charge the battery.., at first i thought it was the batteries faulth.., as it did have 1 slightly loos connector point.., i replaced the battery and it got recognised ( before the replacement the OS did not even see it as connected.., now it does see it.. ) the battery seemed to work well.., when plugged in it displayed as " connected -charging " as it does to this day.., however.. after having used the battery without power connected it has gone empty.. and even though it displayed as charging.., it is not. nor does it charge when the whole laptop is turned off but connected to the AC. i have tried the remove battery hints and all the styles i could find on the internet.., although i had noticed that for most it would display as " not charging " whilst for me it would exually say its charging.., but absolutely no power is being deposited into the battery.

Mines doing the exact same, Can you help please?

Probook 4740s - disk change

Hello there HP community, I recently updated my notebook with new hard disk drive, It was Toshiba drive, it uses Sata 2, so my question is, how to change it in bios, so I could install my Windows 7, I get error 0x80070017 - I found alot of answers, but none helped me, my CD is alright, tested it on another computer, I also made bootable flash disk, yet same error, I tried to install XP and it gave me simillar error BSOD, Ubuntu installation had no problem, so I guess there is something wrong set in bios, anyone knows?

Windows 7 should be almost the same.
1. Install the chipset driver first & reboot:

The following steps are used for installing AHCI drivers in the Windows XP operating system installed using the IDE mode.
2. Download the AHCI driver from downloadcenter.intel.com, and then extract the files to a folder you name. Put the folder on your C: drive and remember where you put it so you can browse to it.

3. Right-click the My Computer icon, click Manage, select Device Manager
4. Click the + symbol beside IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers , this would show the devices under this category.
5. You will find the Intel Serial SATA storage controller driver installed.
Yours should be an Intel Series 7 something or other.
6. Right-click the Serial ATA storage controller listed, and click Update Driver .
7. In Welcome to the Hardware Update Wizard, select No, not this time. Click Next .
8. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) . Click Next
9. Select Don't search I will choose the driver to install . Click Next
10. Click Have Disk
11. Click Browse
12. Select location: c:\folder you saved ACHI drivers to.
13. Select iaAHCI.inf
14. Click Open
15. This will list several SATA AHCI Controllers. From this list, select the Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller. Click Next.
16. The Update Driver Warning will be shown. Click Yes
17. The driver will install, and completing the Hardware update Wizard appears. Click Finish
18. You can find the updated controller in the device manager.
19. During restart, press the F10 key and boot to BIOS setup utility . Go back to your device configurations sub menu and change the SATA Mode back to ACHI, save settings there (F10) and upon exit, save changes and reboot.
Now, the SATA driver is successfully installed and the notebook will boot into Windows with SATA Mode set to AHCI.
