ProBook 6465b - does it support SATA III?

Hi,
I have ProBook with A6-3410MX on AMD A60M FCH, which should has only 6Gbps SATA. But my friend has the same ProBook with A4 on the same chipset, and he's bought Crucial m4 SSD and benchmarks results show that it is only SATA II (3Gbps). Can anybody confirm that 6465b support or not 6Gbps SATA?

Hi pepe,
that's the point - it should support but results from AS SSD on my friend's 6465b shows that it not support SATA III. And I try to discover why. Is it hardware (HP do not include SATA III) or some software problems. Unfortunatelly, i don't have any SATA III SSD or HDD to check my notebook.

Have a look at the write speed. My SATA II Corsair has the same write speed like the SATA III M4 256GB and 512GB. Reading is just 415MB/s (my has approx 275MB/s) for all of them. I would expect a better read/write performance from a SATA III SSD..

I've just picked up a new Satellite Pro C850-1EQ laptop, and am looking to replace the slow 5400rpm drive with an SSD.
I can't find the SATA specifications of this machine anywhere - does it support Sata III (6Gb/sec)?
    Thanks,

    Hi
As far as I know it supports the SATA II (3Gb/s)
But you could install some software diagnostic tools like *SiSoft SANDRA*
This would provide all details about the hardware configuration.
Could you confirm that its SATA II?

  • Does the Mac Pro Support SATA III?

Hi everyone, I've been wondering for a long time: Does the late 2012 12-Core Mac Pro support SATA III 6Gb connection? If not, is there any way of making it SATA III?

Most commercially-available rotating drives cannot possibly source data off the platters at higher than a momentary bursts of up to 125MBytes/sec, or about 1.0Gbits/sec. That means SATA-I speed is not a bottleneck.
A few drives are faster, and some SSD drives are faster.
Many drives available today are capable of transfers at up to 6Gbits/sec.They will operate correctly at the Mac Pro's 3Gbits sec Bus speed. But since they cannot produce data from the drive platters at those speeds, you get at most a tiny, momentary burst at that speed.
6Gbits/sec is far higher than other bottlenecks in the drive. There is no point in paying extra for this spec, as the drive cannot achieve it steady-state, and it provides no measurable advantage. I refer to such practices as "specsmanship". Feel free to read "cr@p".

Please see the "HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide" for the technical specification of your computer. It appears that the computer supports SATA, but no exact information is given. The is most likely SATA version based on an AMD A60M chipset would be SATA3.

  • Does dv6-6153cl support SATA III HDDs?

I'm having trouble with my laptop and I think I've narrowed the problem down to the HDD. I want to replace it, and upgrade it, but I'm not sure what HDDs I can use.
I'd like to know if I can install a SATA III HDD into my dv6-6153cl laptop. From what I can tell it currently has a SATA II HDD installed. Can I upgrade to SATA III or am I stuck with SATA II?

Get the SATA-III. Even if the motherboard would only support SATA-II (not true in your case) you can use SATA-III drives. SATA is fully backward compatible. But, again, your motherboard has the HM65 chipset which supports SATA-III. A good rule of thumb is if it has USB 3.0 it also has SATA-III. Not 100% true but awfully close to always true.

The chipset is HM65 which should be able to support SATA III.
I want to confirm this before I upgrade my harddrive to SSD.

    Thank Kamat & Pepe.
I heard that there is a difference between the cable for SATA II and SATA III.
Do you know the connector within this laptop is installed for SATA III or only for SATAII as Kamat said?
And by the way, are you guys from HP?
The SATA III connectors may have more pins than SATA II but because SATA III is compatible with SATA II the connectors look like the same. I believe that SATA III connectors in Sandy Bridge laptops are installed for a hard drive and for an optical drive. I mean 2 different cables from 2 SATA III ports on the motherboard..
Yes, Kamat works for HP, but I don't..

  • Macbook Pro 2011 do not support SATA III?

Macbook Pro 2011 do not support SATA III?

Yes, they do, sort of! It's funny because I was about to complain about my THIRD 2011 MacBook Pro and while SATA III works fine in the main hard drive bay, it will not let me put a second SSD into the optical drive bay for a RAID 0 solution. This affects all 15" and 17" MBP's, but strangely enough, it works just fine on the 2011 13" MBP's. GRRR! This is so infuriating.

  • My laptop supports SATA III 6Gb / s?.

    Hi all.
    I have the Pavilion DV6 6C16NR and I want to buy a SSD (OCZ Vertex 4) III SATA 6Gb / s.
    I investigated if the laptop supports 6Gb / s.
    1. The manual says 3Gb / s.
    2. A few days ago i talked on chat with HP technician and he told me that the chipset supports 6Gb / s, then obviously,  your laptop supports it.
    3. Talk to another technician today and tells me that he  talk to the supervisor and the laptop does not support 6Gb / s.
    I'm really confused.
The chipset of the laptop if it supports 6Gb / S, if you search the web you will see that Intel says it.
Can you help, supports 6Gb / s or not?.
If not supported, it makes no sense to spend the money it's worth a SSD.

Hello, I downloaded the program but do not see where it says 6Gb / s.
I think that all new laptops with Sandy Bridge should support 6Gb / s.
I want to be sure before buying the SSD.

Apple are likely to use different batches and makes even in the same model Mac. However I believe the above Hitachi drive to be a SATA II which is 3.0Gbps.
You should not pay too much attention to that however. Not only is this only a 5400 rpm drive (slow) but any single physical hard disk cannot come even close to fully loading a SATA interface. You only need to worry about this if you get a SSD drive and even then you might need to have a RAID0 stripped array to merit a SATA III 6.0Gbps interface.

  • My laptop model is Q dv7t-3300. Does it support SATA 3.0?

I want to install SSD that supports SATA 3.0.

    Hi,
The dv7-3300t doesn't have a sata 3 controller.  Right now the OCZ Vertex 2 is about the fastest sata 2.0 hard drive on the market.  A sata 3.0 SSD should be downward compatible with a sata 2.0 interface.  I have tested my Vertex 3 (sata 3) on diifferent PC and laptops that only have sata 2.0 and I didn't have a problem.
Your laptop should have room for a second HD so that would allow you to reuse your current HD in the second hard drive bay.  If you post your exact product number I can check and see if there is a hard drive mounting kit available. If you already have two hard drives then the kit is obviously not needed.

     Question:
I have read the specs and could not find anything who says is compatible with SATA 3.
I want to buy this SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227727
But im not spending this much without sure it will work properly.
     Can any1 gimme a light?
ps: whats the better SSD i can buy for 280$?
    thank you!!

Unfortunately i have bad news i asked before msi and they said that didn't know about it.and i got some information about chipset from here
    http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/chipsets/mainstream-chipsets/mobile-chipset-hm67.html?wapkw=hm67
Serial ATA (SATA) 6 Gb/s and 3 Gb/s:High-speed storage interface supporting up to 6 Gb/s transfer rate for improved data access. Provides up to six SATA ports with up to two ports supporting 6 Gb/s transfer rates.
As you see unfortunately the two port is for USB 3.0 because on data sheet there is no info about usb 3.0 so that means two sata 3 ports are for usb 3.0
that is bad :( i didn't try that but it seems bad...:(

  • Yoga 13 Supports 500gb Boot drive but not running as SATA III?

    Hi All,
I had previously installed a 250gb Plextor drive in the second mSata slot and upgraded the RAM to 8gb in my Yoga 13 IdeaPad which I purchased early in 2013. I followed the installation instructions and guidance offered by the Community so thanks to all who posted and other than the occasional skipped heartbeat as I removed cables it went well.
As SSD prices are now dropping I decided to try adding a Samsung 840 EVO 500gb. I was a little skeptical about taking the chance after reading the comments posted here and elswhere regarding the 256gb "ceiling" for both slots but decided "no pain, no gain" and went ahead anyhow.
I'm happy to report ( I think) that I was able to install the drive. First, in the secondary slot and then finally, as the boot drive in the primary slot. I had originally installed it in the 2nd slot after removing the Plextor drive and leaving the original 128gb boot in place. I entered the bios and it was recognized, I saved the settings and then initialized and formatted the drive with the disk management tool. No problems.
I then wanted to move the Plextor drive to the primary so that I would have a larger boot drive. Since the old primary was a Samsung I though I might be able to use the Samsung migration utility to clone the old boot drive to the Plextor. Following suggestions from others I put the Plextor into slot one and then put the old boot drive into an external usb3 housing.  I tried several times to boot from the old boot drive through the usb but couldn't get it to work so I reinstalled the old boot drive back into slot 1.
Just for kicks I ran the migration utility with the Plextor attached though the usb. It didn't recognize the plextor drive but it did offer the option to clone to the 500gb in the second slot. I figured I had nothing to lose so I went for it. The clone finsihed and I then swapped the 500 gb into slot 1, put the plextor back into slot 2, started the bios, verified the drives were present and that the 500gb was the boot, and saved the changes. Presto, it booted just fine and everything appears to be ok. However...
Went I started the Samsung performance tool it told me that my drive was not connected to a sata III controller. The performance benchmark would back that up as my read/write and iops performance are pretty poor compared to what I was hoping. I've confirmed that the Intel C216 chipset that is installed does indeed support sata III 6gbs rates but the drive doesn't seem to think so.
There doesn't appear to be anything posted on the board about the controller or any similar issue - can anyone offer some guidance?
    Thanks,
    Paul

Well dont worry as to whether the Tranfer Mode is Reporting you S-ATA Drive at, as the UDMA Modes do NOT apply to S-ATA Drives, so if it is Reporting UDMA-5 or UDMA-6, there is No Difference with the Transfer speeds as far as S-ATA Drives are concerned........And I would Try to Enable the RAID Option in the BIOS, If indeed you are running a RAID Array ...............Sean REILLY875

  • W520 support for SATA III or 6GB with Vertex 3 240GB SSD

I need a laptop that supports 16GB memory, HD display (1920 X 1080) and SATA 3 with 6Gb speeds to leverage my existing Vertex 3 240GB SSD.
Looking up PSREF, I find the W520 specs state SATA 3Gb/s (SATA II?) while the chipset is QM67 which is supposed to support SATA III 6Gb/s.
So the question is, does the W520 support SATA 3 at 6Gb/s? I need the throughput to leverage the throughput of the Vertex 3 240GB SSD  for multiple VM's on my laptop.
    Thanks and regards

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Just for the record i been using several SSDs with the W520 including the OCZ Vertex 3 and OCZ Vertex 3 max and they both fit fine with the rubber rails in the W520. Just don't mount the case that is normally around the HDD/SSD. You won't need that case anyway when using the SSD in the W520. Use only the rubber rails and the SSD will fit fine and should be seated fine as well.
