ProBook 6550b: No audio to 3.5mm output and speakers

Product: notebook ProBook 6550b
Prod number: WD700EA#ACB
Operating System: Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit
Changes made to system before the issue occurred: installed an audio driver "Version: 6.10.6341.0; 5.10.6341.0" (30 Jun 2011)
Problem: no output to 3.5mm jack or built-in speakers. When using my USB headset - audio is OK. But I also need speakers and 3.5m audio output working. Seems like I have the latest audio driver installed (please let me know if anything newer is available). How it's possible to fix this?

You can't simply use an adapter. You have to purchase a DAC converter.

Howdy. I don't know what's wrong with my laptop. Recently any headphone I have used with the 3.5mm output has been crackleing. I assumed the jack it's self was broke but when I set up my Audioenndine D1 amp it is still crackling from videos on YouTube, Netflix, iTunes. etc... It even crackles when there is nothing playing. If anyone has any idea what is going on I would apreaciate it.

You can try a NVRAM/PRAM reset:
Disconnect all peripherals, power off, power back on holding the following keys COMMAND OPTION P R
continue holding till you hear the start chime 2 times then release, reboot.
If it is still crackling it may be a hardware issue, you can bring it in to a Genius bar and they will disgnose it for free, and give you options.

Optical Audio to 3.5mm

I have a second generation Apple TV. I have got everything working as far as streaming, audio and video goes, but I want to have the sound coming out of my stereo system. My stereo system does not have an optical audio in. Is there any other way around this? I purchased a optical audio to 3.5mm but it does not work for some reason. Any thoughts?

Search for "digital to analog audio converter" on Amazon. They start at about $50, and have at least red/white RCA analog audio output jacks. If you can't find one that has a 3.5mm analog output jack, get also an adapter cable with two red/white RCA plugs on one end and a stereo 3.5mm plug on the other.
I use a Musical Fidelity V-DAC, but at $300 it might be too much for you unless you have a pretty good sound system.

Internal and external microphone doesnot working on HP probook 6550b

HP probook 6550b. Windows 7 Pro SP1 64bit.
Sound works without any problems but my microphone suddenly stops working today.
Usually i use my internal microphone.
I tried to plug in one of my external microphones to mic jack and it also doesnot working. I check my 2 external microphones on other PC and they both are woking properly.
1) Nothing new was installed today.
2) To fix this i tried to swich in sound properties default device but i dont see any green volume level behind mic images for both.
3) I removed all audio drivers
4) After PC was restarted windows installed default drivers but i still cannot record any sound. (Checked in skype and by green record level indicator in sound properties)
5) Also for default windows drivers i tried to switch my default microphone in 'sound' window settings and also plug in and out my external mics and without results.

Direct connections are always best, but if you insist:
Get a Griffin iTrip or replace your radio with one that has AUX inputs and/or Bluetooth.

Audio output and left USB port is not working!

Hi! I have MacBook Air 13" late 2010, Audio output and left USB port is not working!
What happened?

If the left USB port doesnt work with an external mouse its seems to be a hardware malfunction of this USB port.
The newest BIOS is already installed?
Have you removed all USB ports from device manager and restarted your notebook?
If you have already tried this, contact an authorized service provider. The guys can try to fix this issue and it should be covered by warranty, if you still have warranty on this notebook. :)

Setting External Audio Interface as default output

Hi.
I have a MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion 1.8.5 with the following audio output options:
Built-In Output
MOTU UltraLite Audio Interface
Bluetooth speaker.
I have the UltraLite setup as my default for "Use this device for sound output" and "Play alerts and sound effects through this device". And it works flawless. On occassion I have to play the audio to the Bluetooth speaker. And that works great too. However if I turn off the spearker the Mac defaults back to "Built-In Output". How can I set it to default back to the UltraLite instead? (Ps-I don't mind messing with files deep in the system).

Hi.
I assume you created WAD template.
In this WAD you inserted 2 webitems:
1. analysis item with dataprovider assigned to your query
2. chart item with the same dataprovider
If so you should set, as mentioned above, HIDDEN for analysis item (analysis item shows you query data - table) and VISIBLE fro chart item.
So by default your report data will be hidden and chart visible.
If you want to switch within WAD you should create any button "show/hide table" and attach command "SET_WEBITEM_PROPERTIES" and set visible for analysis item.

Live Type graphics interfering with audio on playback to output monitor

New to Mac, so bare with me.
When I drop live type graphics in timeline and play with the built in audio, plays fine. When I output it to mini dv to record via firewire, and hit play the audio is fine till the timeline marker goes past the end of the graphic, then the audio drops out for a few seconds, then its o.k. again. This happens on every graphic, no exceptions. Now the audio is coming through the NTSC speakers.
Funny thing though, we I play back the recorded tape, the audio plays fine.
The audio also plays fine on the built in speakers. Onlu when outputted to firewire to the mini dv.
This is very annoying.
Can someone help please?
Using a LaCie 500 gig firewire drive, via the 800 firewire port.

How do I mix down the audio? Do you think that if I hit play on the timeline and then hit record on dv, that might work?

Trying to capture audio from the computer output.

I'm trying to figure out how to capture the sound output, and either record it as a .wav, .mp3, or garage band track.
The end goal(s):
1. Full screen video and audio capture -- for example, capture a window as a video, and any sound effects generated by that program. Note that capturing the full screen is just as good for me as capturing a single window.
2. Recording audio/voip calls. I know that if I run garage band and iChat, then the two will talk to each other, and record each person in a seperate GB sound channel. But other audio chat programs (skype, teamspeak, ventrillo) don't have that.
Garage band will record what I say into the microphone. However, what the computer generates over the speakers/headphones -- what the other people in the conversation say -- does not record.
Skype is the one I'm most interested in (this weekend).
Any advice/ideas? None of my searches turned up anything.

Outside of skype, I can't figure out how to record both sound out and sound in. It records either one, but not both.
And I still can't find anything like the Camstudio program for microsoft windows -- record either full screen, or fixed area of the screen, or a window, over time, along with the audio (either a single program, or the whole system).
Note that with this recording audio, a seperate program for recording video, and some way to synchronize a video and audio track that don't like up perfectly, that would do it. Any ideas?

How to repartition my disk on ProBook 6550b

I've got a HP probook 6550b with 160GB hard disk. It has 4 partition on the hard disk:
- System partition (~300MB)
- Windows partition (~130GB) - C: drive
- Backup partition (~15GB)
- HP tools partition (~2G) - F: drive
Now I need to create 2 new partition for my demands. All of them are primary partition, and I cant shrink the windows partition to create another.
Who can tell me the purpose of these partition? And how to re-partition my disk to have new partition?

Have you:
1) Created HP recovery media? either DVD or USB
2) installed UEFI?
Are you aware that you will lose access to the HP Recovery manager by the F11 key if you change the partitions?
There is a limit of four primary primary partitions on a hard disk. You can create logical partitions inside the primary partitions. I suggest you read a bit to gain knowlege of partitioning hard disks. You might find that purchasing an external hard disk is more practical.
System tools partition holds the UEFI BIOS update and diagnostics. If you delete this partition you will be losing the most tecnologically advanced means of updating BIOS available. You may or may not be able to recreate the partition.

I don't have a H4 but do have a H2. Did you set the H4 as a audio interface, after you plug it in choose interface in the H4 screen?
Did you choose the H4 input channel in the track info?

Webcam Probook 6550b

I have a Probook 6550b that trhe webcam is not working. Driver says its working properly. Camera light come on. On skype just see rotating arrow like it wants to come on but it doesnt. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the same result. Program for camera on HP site state system doesnot have any installed devices. Can you please help me?

Silent Audio Channels in Compressed Output Files ...

Has anyone experienced dead silent audio channels in exported MP3 or Podcast/AAC files?
This is included in the application release notes:
Exporting to Compressed Formats
" If you export to compressed formats (MP3 or AAC) using devices that do not use class-compliant Core Audio drivers built into Mac OS X on Intel-based Macintosh computers, the audio track of the exported file may be silent. To avoid this issue, use the Audio MIDI Setup utility to change your default output audio device to Built-in or to a device that uses the class-compliant Core Audio drivers before exporting files."
I'm on a Dual PPC G5, and my Motu interface is compliant. All exported compressed files [with or without video in AAC exports] have silent audio channels.
Any news on this?

All the pods are set to master. I've never set any sub-mix tracks in the
past, and, yes, these are set to zero (but I didn't do it). I set the submix
to 3 for each Stereo & Mono in project settings, default sequence.
Made no difference.
Original audio is standard from a Sony professional camera. Same
camera I've used on a number of occasions.
What baffles me is that I just don't understand the error message
language. In other words: what is it saying?

OK, the Master is Stereo, and you have 3 Mono Tracks, that should
mix-down to that Stereo Master, which will not be a problem.
Now, it appears that you have no Sub-mix Tracks. Is that correct?
Check to see what the Track Mapping is set to for each of those Mono
Tracks. They should be set to Master.
Having the Track Mapping set improperly could possibly result in this
type of issue, as DVD's can only have a limited number of Audio
streams and these are well-defined.
Maybe someone else will have more ideas for you.

PS - as a note, one cannot use ADL to Encore, if the Master is DD 5.1
SS, as that must go through the Minnetonka Audio SurCode DD 5.1 SS
encoder plug-in to get a DD 5.1 SS AC3. That does not seem to be
your case though.

Probook 6550b does not recognize ssd on reboot

Hi, I've installed an Intel 530 SSD 240GB into my Probook 6550b (replacing a crucial 128GB, which worked fine).
The computer boots ok on the SSD from a cold start, but does not recognise the SSD on restart. Also SSD is hanging and slow.
I have tested the SSD in an Elite 8560p and it works fine, boots both from restart and cold start.
Am I able to change the maximum SATA speed on the HP Probook 6550b? I didn't see an option to do this in the BIOS. Have the current BIOS v F.23.
