Probook 6570b - Are the CPU & GPU upgradeable?

Hi, I bought a refurbished Probook 6570b running Windows 7 Professional 32-bit. It seems it doesn't come with the core cpu but rather a celeron B840 1.9GHz. Nor has it a discrete Graphics unit.
My question is this. Are the CPU & GPU upgradeable?
Thanks for taking time to read this!

  • How do I measure the CPU/GPU split of load/usage in Java3D?

    Hello,
Is it possible to measure the split between graphics and CPU usage to find out how much work each is doing, what work is done, and which is doing the most work, for example? If so, how can this be implemented in the Java3D code?
For example, on a particular system, measure whether the GPU is doing the most work, or the CPU.
    Thanks for your help :)

In Linux, you can read /proc/uptime. It does NOT give you the load averages that the command uptime gives. It gives you numerically the amount of time the CPU was idle vs how much time it was spent doing something. You need to read these two floating point numbers one every second, or once every 5 or 10 seconds then do the delta on the change: The maths are as follows:
Read the file in twice in 5 seconds, parse into two floats/doubles:
double[] last;  // the first read of the file
double[] rect;  // the latest read of the file
    double ld = last[1] - last[0];
    double rd = rect[1] - rect[0];
double cpu = (1.0d-(rd/ld)) * 100.0d;This should print the CPU percentage in Linux for that given time frame (5 second updates).

  • What are safe CPU/GPU operating temps?

I'm running BONIC on my new 6 core Mac Pro, 32GB RAM, 1TB storage, dual D700 GPU's and I've been monitoring CPU/GPU temps and fan RPMs using Temp Gauge Pro ... once BONIC gets going you can see all the CPUs maxed out and temps begin to rise... as expected of course, but after about 5 minutes or so the fan is maxing out at 1900 rpm and I see max CPU temps hitting ~92 degrees ... GPUs are running cooler...
is this within the safe operating range ?

I have the base 4 core and with Mac FanConrol I get 60C GPU Diode, 57 CPU Proximity while running Setie@home and Einstein. Fan is 914

  • Did you guys change the thermal paste of the CPU/GPU?

I saw lots of my friends change to IC DAIMOND thermal paste but in the end their GPU still go BOOM and burned.
Is it worth it ? because i do not know how to apply it and i dont want to void my warranty as well

I replaced my GE70 with IC Diamond.  Seems to be working great after 4 months.  Like Chiyawa mentions, you should be cleaning the fan, vents, and other dusty areas on a regular basis.  I clean mine at least every month if not every 2 weeks.  Just helps keep everything clean.  But using the Cooler Boost certainly helps.  I rarely run games without using that.  Not a single glitch.
But in all fairness, I don't game all the time.  Maybe 10+ hours per week. I also added 2 mSata drives and replaced the HDD with a Samsung 830 256gb ssd.  I think this helps a lot with speed, weight, heat, and functionality of the laptop too.  Was a no brainer.  While I was in there to replace the drives, that's when I replaced the thermo with IC Diamond and also upgraded the Wifi to AC.  Tried the killer but the AC was a tad bit faster.

  • What are the typical temerature ranges for the black Macbooks?

    Hello everyone,
Posting this as a one-year owner of one of the earlier black MacBooks (Macbook 2,1 - mid 2007 - 2GHz Core 2 Duo) just wondering what the typical temperature ranges are for at idle and under load for this line of machine?
I have modified the device slightly, putting a 120GB solid state drive, toping it out with 3GB of RAM and have Lion installed on it. I use it for a mixture of general web browsing and work (which does include running a Windows XP virtual machine in Fusion 4 although again, nothing heavier than testing websites in IE/Chrome/Firefox/Safari) and have just become a bit aware of the temperatures.. At idle (nothing running at all) the system is at ~40C and under load about 70C-80C, with the fan running flat out to cool it down. Watching YouTube videos does also put it up at this temperature, but I understand that Flash and OSX do not play nicely. I have opened up the device and blown compressed air into and around the fan intakes to clean it out, and most (if not all) of the time it is on a flat surface with adequate ventalation.
I'm really wandering whether these temperatures are typical for this range of MacBook, as from experience a laptop of this spec should not be getting this hot.. Also a question for anyone that would be kind enough to take a stab - would it be worth me replacing the thermal paste on the CPU/GPU with some Arctiv Silver? I'd be comfortable doing that if it would benefit my heat issues. I've had a Google about this and the results are a mixed bag..
Thanks for anyone kind enough to take a look at this!

Okay well in lieu of any answers since I posted this (I am aware it was only a short while ago) but at the rate posts get buried on here, I wanted to post my own findings.
Various posts across the we show that the white series of these MacBooks operate at around 50C-55C at idle and under load reach up to 80C. Apple says that it should shutdown at ~90C - the highest I have ever seen my MacBook get is 87C, so temperature wise:
    Idle: 50-55C
    Under load: 70C-80C
    Thermal Shutdown: 90C
With the fans being noisy when under load, apparently there are two main "families" of the black MacBook. The earlier models (of which my one is) run at the above temperatures with a fan speed of ~6800RPM being fully open and ~1200RPM being idle. The Santa Rosa MacBooks however being a later model have a much more efficient - albeit more noisy - fan module. I daresay the Santa Rosa black MacBooks are more common being the newer model.
So my findings - my temperatures of reaching 70C-80C are normal for the work I do. The fan speed being up to 6800RPM is fine - and the noise is just a trait of this line of MacBook sadly.

  • Late 2011 MBP wont charge under cpu/gpu load

As soon as I start live streaming with Wirecast, my laptop starts discharging from the battery.  As soon as I stop broadcasting, it immediately starts charing again.  From what I've read already, this is possible due to a power adapter that is too small to handle the CPU/GPU load.  Is there a fix for this?  This is absolutely rediculous!  I spend nearly $3,000.00 on this machine for the purpose of live streaming and it can't handle it?!?!?!  Any help would be much appreciated!  Thanks!

I can see that by mistake I miscategorized my question:

  • Is it possible to upgrade the CPU or GPU of a Toshiba Notebook?

Many customers would like to upgrade/replace the CPU (Central Processing Unit) and/or GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) in their mobile systems to gain performance.
Toshiba does not support or recommend performing modifications on their mobile systems since the core components in these mobile systems are not upgradeable like in a desktop system.
    More Info: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm

    Hi there,
I think what John meant to say is: it is not possible because it´s too expensive and you won´t gain some really big speed. I don´t know where you read something, but I think if you were a toshiba technician and would be familiar with electronics and the machines or especially with your machine than you won´t have a problem to exchange it.
I already tried to perform such exchange on my Satellite P20 some months ago. I can truly tell you: it didn´t bring me really some speed or performance. You will gain more performance by upgrading your RAM or your harddisk, but not with exchanging your CPU.
And it doesn´t matter which machine do you have regardless if you own a Satellite, Satellite Pro or a Tecra. The result is the same because the models have all the same componentes (but not similar hardware :) )

  • What is the biggest bottleneck on this machine - CPU, GPU, RAM (now at 8GB), or the HD, and would I be better getting a current 27" iMac, a 2012 Mac Mini, or SSDs for my current Mini?

I currently have a 2011 Mac Mini Server. When using FCP X, what is the biggest bottleneck on this machine - CPU, GPU, RAM (now at 8GB), or the HD, and would I be better getting a current 27" iMac, a 2012 Mac Mini, or SSDs for my current Mini?
    Thanks people,

    Hi Tom,
I just wanted to ask you about what you said about the color correction. To be quite honest I'm not sure what the best workflow is, and I haven't gotten my feet wet in multi-cam editing. Basically my work-flow has been.
    1) Import from the camera as optimized media - I found that adding color-correction at the import stage cause a severe hang with my tape-based Canon unit.
    2) Color-correct the imported files before loading any files into a project
    3) Drag files onto the timeline
    4) Click on the color-correction box
    5) Start editing - Usually I have one camera zoomed a little tighter on the singer, one on the whole band, and my iPad or iPhone camera at different angles so I start cutting things according to who is the focus of the moment, add a Ken Burns effect every here and there, Titles, an occassional transition effect.
    6) Add music effects after the looks are taken care of
    7) Export
Are you recommending clicking on the color-correction box after everything is done?
    Thanks - TZ

  • What are the minimum CPU and Memory requirements for R12 Vision instance?

We are in the process of trying to figure out what the minimum hardware requirements are for installing the R12 Vision instance. This Vision instance would only have 5 or less concurrent users. We may have to order a new server and we are wondering what the minimum CPU and memory would be? Oracle Support will not give us this information.
We aleady know how much disk space it will need.

  • T530 with NVS5400M - would ExpressCard use the CPU or GPU, when attaching a extenral monitor?

    Curiousity is
attaching a Asus MB MB168B+ (external FHD USB 3.0 monitor), and having it use the NVS 5400M, rather than the CPU.
Had read that attaching it via the laptop's USB 3.0 would process the graphics using the CPU.
How about.. attaching a ExpressCard to USB 3.0 adapter.  Would that use the NVS GPU?

Obviously heat is a big enemy of electronics but people make too big of an issue about it, I think. Your computer's fans rev up as the heat goes up and if the computer approaches dangerous temps it will shut off. My 2011 doesn't seem to be any hotter when connected to the electricty than when on battery power.
Using it on battery at a desk or table you shouldn't need to be worried. If you intend to keep it on your lap just from the stand point of your own comfort a lap table with fan or fanless is a good idea.
Heat vents out the top and back - I'd recommend against using it shut while gaming. Obviously most games dont take advantage of having a second display but when I'm connected to my external monitor for non-gaming purposes I like having the second monitor.

And what do you do with that spare CPU cycles? Imagine that things are now better as the CPU utilisation has dropped by 10% or so?
What are the ways to control CPU usage precisely in database host that has multiple 10g instances. That is the kernel's job. Or do you think you know better than the very sophisticated processing and scheduling models that the kernel support - and should override that and control that from userspace?
I fear that particular instances overallocate CPU resource on the host and this affects performance of other instances on the host if CPU_COUNT value is set to default for every instances. Sounds like baloney to me. What you fear and not not fear does not change reality. What is the reality? What is the problem? In crystal clear technical details?

When I try to open the EOS digital solution disk ver 24.1 for my new Canon Rebel T3i camera on my Mac 10.5.8 a notice "this software is not supported by the CPU you are using" comes up
You need to contact Canon - or read the software specs - it sounds like the software you got form them is not supported by your computer
    Do I need this software?
Probably not - exactly what about it do you want?
Can I just download the pictures to my Mac without using the Canon software?
Probably - if you are shooting JPEG - launch iPhoto and in the iPhoto preferences set action when a camera is connected to launch iPhoto and connect your camera - iPhoto should launch and you should be able to import
Some cameras need to be set to mass storage mode - read your camera manual for details and procedures
If you are using RAW then your camera needs to be on this list and you need the versions of software noted - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757 - for older OS versions you can use google to find the list of supported cameras

  • With many open tabs (80+) Firefox regularly (every 10sec) hangs for a few seconds because of session storing where the CPU is at 100%. Btw that is the reason why videos in Firefox are hanging every 10sec, too. Why is this operation so demanding?

When I'm using Firefox for a long time and I'm working with several open windows and many open tabs (80+), Firefox hangs/freezes every 10sec for 1-3sec. This is very annoying. The reason for this seems to be the session store operation, which gets executed every 10sec. In my experience (or rather on my computer) this isn't noticeable when I'm just working with around 40 open tabs.
This also seems to be the reason for hanging videos in firefox (although youtube is quite robust; others are not) because they stop every 10sec, too. For this time (the 1-3sec) the taskmanager tells me that firefox is using all the available cpu power. I'm really wondering why the session store operation has such an influence on Firefox' behaviour.
My computer is a Core 2 Duo E6600 with 3GB RAM and a decent hdd.

    Just some additional info:
I just had the problem again, and it even occurred when I did not have any tab open! I did not even use Firefox, but just wanted to start to use it, but it did not respond. There was _nothing_ open, and when I checked the TaskManager, the memory consumption was up to 300 MB, and the CPU was again at 100%. After the CPU was down to 0% again, the memory slowly decreased as well. First, to ~260, then to ~200, now to ~170 MB. Maybe it will decrease even further...

  • What are hiutil and mdworker? - they're maxing out the CPU!!

So I upgraded this afternoon to Lion on my 13" macbook air from the App Store; first of all the reboot crashed, then a hard off and back on sorted that out.
Now hiutil (and sometimes mdworker) are trashing the CPU constantly at 90-100% (and making the fan go crazy with it)
Anyone have any idea what these threads are?
My MBA is now unusable because of these!!
    Cheers, Simmo

mdworker is the Spotlight indexer. Spotlight is a bit wonky in Lion (as it was in SL 10.6.0)…be patient; it might not be fixed until 10.7.2 or so. If you don't use Spotlight, consider turning it off in SysPrefs. It'll cut that process.
hiutil seems to be a low-level process for Help pages. It's probably indexing those (to get the snappy search results from the Help menu).
