Probs with new nano

Brand new nano wont let me get into 'music'. Every time I click centre button to get into music menu, it gives me black screen and then the apple icon.
I can however get into 'photos', 'extras', etc without probs. It only happens with 'music'.
Any hints???

  • 3rd party earbuds/phones not working with new Nano

So, I've got a new Nano ( a couple months old at this point ), and the earbuds that came with it got accidently trashed.
No worries, because I've got several other sets of earbuds / headphones kicking around.
The problem is that with all of them, the sound keeps cutting out / playback stops.  I'm fairly certain that this is the iPod detecting "no headphones" and stopping playback.
It happens whenever the plug flexes; it's as if the jack briefly loses contact with the internal connectors.
Since I usually keep my iPod in my pocket, this happens quite often.
I don't know whether the new Apple earbuds (with volume control/mic) would react the same way; I won't buy them, because I can't have them at work (anything with a microphone is banned).
    Anyone have thoughts / help?
    Thanks!

    Ok, more follow-up.
Roommate had a pair of iPod buds that he'd never used, and let me have them.
There are marked differences between the iPod 3.5 mm jack and a "standard" 3.5 mm jack.
The standard 3.5 mm jack has three sections, tip, middle, and call it 'core'.
The iPod jack has 4 sections, tip, middle, core 1 and core 2.
The seperator for each of the common sections (tip to middle/middle to core(core1)) are at the same place.
I suspect that the "core 2" is how the the iPod/iPad/iPhone uses the microphone.
No big deal, except I can't have a microphone, at all, period, at work.  Absolutely forbidden (if I want to keep my job).
Breaking out the micrometer (yes, I own a micrometer), it looks as though the iPod jack is a lot closer to the 3.5mm tolerance, than the standard one, which may be the issue.  That is, the core1/core2 sections are 3.5mm exactly, whereas the 3rd party jack is 3.46mm.  I wouldn't think that would make enough of a difference, but apparently it does.
So, I'm back to my starting point:
Is there an "approved for iPod" set of headphones that doesn't have a microphone built in?

Unlock iTunes / get write permission

Wanted to upload some songs from my iTunes Library to new Nano.
Hooked it up, went through the promps, choose two playlists to load, and before we could say oops, we saw that it was infact loading the entire library. We had no way of stopping the process so we unplugged it.
Now when I try to open iTunes it I get an error message :"The iTunes Library file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."
I verified permissions and repaired them. No luck.
    Help! Please!

i'm assuming the Error code HRESULT: 0x800763b3 means something and is the solution but where can i find the answer or am i going about this all wrong?
Yeah, this 0x800763b3 is a slightly unusual one. Normally with these, the iTunes install error code matches the error codes that people get on their Windows Update failures. But for the last two 0x800763b3s I've been involved in on an iTunes install (Liv and someone else), the 0x800763b3 on the iTunes install has been associated with an 0x8007000b on the Windows Update failures. (Liv's 643s were pretty much "generic" error message codes for Windows Update failures, which could mean anything. So that's why I/we went after the 0x8007000b, which has some Microsoft documentation on fixes.)
Doublechecking on other symptoms of your situation ... is your Windows Update not opening at all when you try to launch it?
If so, when you click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the "Programs and Features Control Panel" item, is the Windows Features dialog box empty? (No features are shown?)
(If we can't get the codes from the windows update failures, we might be able to make some progress if we can identify other symptoms that you're getting. I know some documentation for some of these codes that mentions the Windows Features thing as a possible additional symptom.)

  • Itunes problems with new nano, purchased songs

Hello all. I am having a few problems with my itunes and newly purchased nano that hopefully you guys can give me some advice on. First of all, when i plug in my nano, it does not recognize it unless i close itunes and reopen it. Then, it takes a few minutes to open and acts like it is a new nano every time i open it. Meaning, it asks me to name the nano and asks me to apply all the settings etc. After that it works. I then can eject it. If I then re open itunes, with my nano not plugged in, itunes thinks that my nano is plugged in and says its corrupted. If i attempt to do anything in itunes, it freezes up.
In an unrelated problem, i am forced to authorize my computer to play my purchased songs every time i open itunes. It never remembers when I authorize it.
Thanks in advance for your help i definitely appreciate it!

OK, could not resist. I did go ahead and put my old run history back into the new & now restored Nano. No problems. Everything is fine. (Be remember, this is not something that is supported or approved by Apple or Nike.)
There may be no connection between adding the old run data files to the new Nano and the sound & freezing problems. Others have already complained about those.
However, what I will say is that you should never mess around with the Nike+ xml "Preferences" file or the "Best" file. These are invisible for a reason. You can put your old xml run data files into your "latest" folder and thus get them on your new Nano, but you CANNOT change your Totals on your new Nano no matter what you muck around with. However, if you try it and things go wrong, doing a "restore" should save the day.
And it should save the day for sound problems and recurring Nano freezes unless you have a defective Nano.

  • Old Apple USB Power Adapter with new nano

Hi. I have an older Apple USB Power Adapter (model A1102) that I've been using with an Ipod Mini (bought it with the mini a long time ago). I have a new 3G nano on order. Will this power adapter work with the new nano? Or will I be forced to buy a new one?
Output from the adapter is 5V - 1.0A
    Thanks

Since I also converted from a Mini to a 3G Nano, I thought I'd give you a couple of pointers; I probably spent a couple of days preparing my existing mp3 library (and that says nothing about videos).
    1) Make sure all of your mp3's are NOT marked read-only and load everything you want into the NEW iTunes
    2) Work on collecting/saving the NEW things like album covert art and lyrics (I sometimes use the lyrics area to list musicians/personnel)
    3) Re-construct your playlists and SAVE everything (iTunes actually writes back to the mp3 files--that's why you don't want them read-only)
    4) Only then start messing with videos, because they tend to crash iTunes depending on your hardware, OS, etc. (for example, iTunes doesn't work well with Vista). My best advice for videos is use a 3rd party converter (like Nero Recode) to ensure iPod format compatibility; don't even waste your time with iTunes for anything that isn't a downloaded/purchased item.

  • Replacing Ipod mini with New nano,

    Hi
I have purchased my wife to be a new Ipod nano (8gb), she currently uses an Ipod mini (6GB). We use the same PC & to keep both her mini and my 30Gb Ipod video. So she has to manually manage the tunes on her mini.
Now she has this new nano, she wants put the same songs on her shiney blue nano, but this as taken hers hours to shift through all 6000 tracks that we have collected in itunes.
So the question is, is there a simple way to copy the same tracks on the old mini to the new nano?

*is there a simple way to copy the same tracks on the old mini to the new nano?*
You can't copy from one iPod to another and since the old one is being managed manually then you've no original single source to sync from so I'm afraid there is no simple answer.
Something you might want to consider for managing smaller iPods with a large shared library is the option "Sync Music - selected Playlists". Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". This is particularly useful when your library is larger than the capacity of your iPod. When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to that playlist in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync". In future if you were to add another iPod it could sync to the same source playlist.
Open iTunes and create a playlist to update the iPod from, call it -My iPod Nano for example (the dash will position it at the top of the playlists in Sources). You can make it a smart playlist that picks the songs for you or just a normal one and drag whatever content you want to have into the playlist. Now connect your iPod and when it appears in the Source list click on the iPod icon to bring up the preference tabs in the main pane. Go to the Music tab and choose Sync Music and the Selected playlists radio button. Choose the playlist you just made from the selection and click Apply. You can also sync from any existing playlists by choosing the same setting, you just need to make sure that the size of the playlists don't exceed the capacity of your iPod: Syncing Music to iPod

  • Dock station compatible with new nano with multi-touch

Does anybody knows if JBL OnStage IIIP Speakers are compatible with the new iPod nano with multi-touch?
    Thanks.

I don't think you understand the problem then. When pressing 'menu/back' on the remote it goes back to the Album list, but there's nothing 'highlighted' and hence no way to switch between different Albums.
I'm guessing it's because it doesn't make sense to have navigation highlighting on a touch only device.
It does, however, work on the iPhone 3gs (and all other ipods I've tried), which is why I'm hoping for an update from apple that would fix this. I don't see why they'd purposely make previous ipod docks incompatible with the new nano... then again, it's Apple.
There's a bunch of software issues with the new nano, so I guess they'll have their hands full with more important problems for the time being.
I don't see how JBL could fix this.

  • Video issues with new Nano, can anyone help?

I recently bought 'South Park' from the i-tunes store to play on my 3rd generation Nano. Unfortunately when i try to sync it with my nano it says 'video format not supported', other downloads work fine but i-tunes have provided no information when downloading tv shows. It feels like i am flying blind when downloading, is there anything i am doing wrong?

Did you by any chance try to convert video within itunes? There is a choice to do this. Also, you can also contact itunes customer service.

  • Using Current iTunes Library With New Nano

My daughter's iPod Mini seems to have played it's last song and a new 2G Nano is on it's way. Is there anything that I need to do that may not be printed in the manual to transfer her current iTunes library on our PC to the new Nano? We run Windows XP. Should all of her Playlists transfer as well? Will there be any issue of these songs already being on her old (an now dead) iPod?
    Thank you for your help!!

  • Itunes 7.4.3 not working on one PC with new Nano, 7.4.1.2 working on Lappy

I have a new 3g Nano, replaced my 1G Nano.
My new IPOD will not work with Itunes 7.4.3, the USB drivers seem all screwy. It will mount, unmount, etc. It works great on my laptop running 7.4.1.2. I am NOT going to update the laptop. I do not want to reinstall ITUNES on my desktop, because reinstalling everything is a pain I don't want to deal with, but that's the PC with all my movies and music.
Is anyone else having an issue like this? The IPOD won't stay mounted, and Windows gives a USB error message.

I don't see any reason offhand why this form would not work... do other forms work on the system that you're having problems with? I'm wondering if there's a problem with the Acrobat installation on that PC that's causing the scripts to not run.

  • Downloading songs troubles with new nano

Hello. I recently revieved a new pink ipod nano for the holidays. I am having some trouble downloading songs onto it.
I curently have one ipod mini and one itunes account.
I have followed the little instruction thing that came with the new ipod nano but i have no luck.
[when it told me to turn off the computer it did and it turned back on and nothing really happened after that]
I would just like the songs to transfer to the new ipod nano. everytime i plug it into my computer it just is charging the battery and is not downloading any of the songs from the existing itunes account. do i need to make a brand new itunes account?
i would really not like to make a new itunes account on my other computer due to the ammount of space taken up by it.
i think i am doing it right but having the already existing itunes account has made it difficult? i really don't know and am confused..
if anybody could help me with this i would really appreciate it!!! i would like to have this problem resolved within the next day or two seeing i am going on a trip.
    not sure     none

    A few questions for you.
Is this music purchased from the iTunes store you're having difficulty with, or all music?
How do you normally transfer music? Any error messages?

  • Running with New Nano?!

I cried on Christmas morning when I got my Nano! Truly I did. I cried today when I saw they changed the design. Why would Apple change a winner?! Did anyone do Focus Group Research to see if this new product was user friendly to runners? If you hold generation 2 in your hand while you run, you can easily manipulate the wheel to change a song. The sleek design of Generation 2 is very user friendly for runners. No pockets? Gen 2...no problem. Does anyone know about the new design and running with Gen 3?

I have big hands so I actually find the wider body of the 3G much easier to hold. Like the 2G they are still 0.26 deep. Just a little shorter and a little wider.
The 3G has a better hand feel for me, but like all things preferences are an individual matter. As was mentioned above though. It is worthwhile visiting your local store and spending a little time with them. You may find you like it

  • Bluetooth probs with new Mac Pro

I am setting up my new pooter this evening and I'm having trouble getting my wireless mouse and keyboard (both are Apple branded) to work properly. If the devices are within a foot or two of the CPU they work ok. If they're much farther away than that, they refuse to work. I d/c my wireless system/antenna which is nearby, but that had no effect. My keyboard and mouse work very well on a Mac mini which is located in another room, so I don't think it's a device problem. (Plus, bringing in the keyboard and mouse from that system gives me the same results.) Are there problems with the Bluetooth antenna in the Mac Pros? Is the aluminum interfering with the signal? Thanks for the help, Bill.

  • Nano sim from iPhone interchangeable with new nano sims in Moto X and new Droids?

    >> Duplicate post removed to comply with Verizon Wireless Terms of Service.  See iPhone 5 nano sim can be used in Moto X- interchangeable? <<
Message was edited by: Verizon Moderator

Thank you!! I knew they were the same size, but I just called again to a different rep who said the same thing- they are not interchangeable (she said flat out that if I put the nano sim from my iPhone 5s into the Moto X it will not work or be able to activate)... She couldn't explain exactly why except that "Apple" nano sims are singular and don't work in other devices.
I hope you are right and wouldn't mind the voicemail thing as long as I could interchange them easily :)
Thanks again! I am wondering if anyone has tried it?

  • Can someone help with new nano? song duration turned to dots??

i pressed something by mistake yesterday and now where the song duration/time usually is at the bottom there is just 5/6 dots?? can someone please help ?

    Press the center button.
This will switch between volume, scrubber (position in song), rating, lyrics and artwork.
The 5 dots screen is a rating scale. Select this screen, roll the wheel to select 0-5 and press the center button to rate the song.
There is a problem sometimes with this though.
Don't press the button too quickly.
