Procedure/PSP page problem

Question

I have a PSP page where I insert into a Global temporary table records that are based of a query, The query is complicated with multiple full outer joins. One of the parameters in my where clause is date variable. If I pass hard coded date values, the query is fine. However when I pass a date variable with a value in it, the procedure blows up.
This works:
PROCEDURE Weekly_unit_forecast (
var_input_date IN VARCHAR2 default '04/25/2005')
BEGIN
insert into table_xxx
select val1, val2 from table_yyy
where my_date between to_date ('oct-01-2004', 'mon-dd-yyyy') and to_date ('04/25/2005', 'mm/dd/yyyy');
end;
This blows up: ORA-00923: FROM keyword not found where expected

Here is the part of the actual query, instead of var_input_date if I put actual hard coded date, query works fine. When I pass a date variable, the query blows up. :
