Process Chain & DTP

Hi,
I am New to BI 7.0 but with some little knowledge about BW3.5.
I would like to ask for some brief explanation about Process Chain & Data Transfer Process. What are they?
I replicate a DataSource as BI7.0 datasource version, and I found that I must use Transformation in order to link it to my data target. But still I could not transfer data with InfoPackage, it could only extract data to PSA.
Then I just found that I need to create something called "Process Chain" & "Data Transfer Process", may I ask what these 2 things are? And if possible, I would like to ask for steps to extract Customer Master data ?
Here are what I have done so far:
1) Install Business Content for InfoObject '0Customer'.
2) Install Business Content DataSource in R/3 & Replicated as "DataSource" in BI7.0
3) Create a Transformation to link up the InfoObject & DataSource.
4) Create a InfoPackage (could only load data to PSA)
5) Try to create a DTP, but fail. In the first creation popup, the source of DTP keeps read-only, but mandatory, so I cannot get pass...:(

I right click on the DataSource in RSA1, can choose "Create Data Transfer Process".
A popup is shown asking for
1) Name of the Data Transfer Proc.
2) Target of DTP
3) Source of DTP (DataSource & Source System)
Here I can fill in 1 & 2.
However, for "3", the Text box are read-only, so I could not fill in the DataSource.
Am I doing it wrongly?

In a process chain we have a event passing information from one cube to another that stops and do not go until the end of the job. But it doesn't happen all the time, which is rather strange.

Process Chain - How to make decision based on data in PSA and execute DTP

Need to create process in Process Chain, which will execute the DTP based on data in PSA.
Say we have two DSO A & B, both getting data from same datasource.
In process chain, we need to read data in one of the date field in PSA and make a decision, which DTP to get execute in process chain.
Say if date field contains year = 2000, than load to DSO A, if year is 2001, load data to DSO B.
Suggest the solution. ...

1) Develop ABAP process types
ABAP report to read PSA data using function module
Trigger events based on year
event1 -> for even year data
event2 -> for add year data
2) Develop local process chains for each DTPs and schdule it with events mentioned above.

Process chain failing while executing DTP

Hi All,
My process chain is failing while executing DTP.
Error i got is: OBJECTS_OBJREF_NOT_ASSIGNED
Access not possible using 'NULL' object reference.
The dump is occuring in method : GET_FIELD_LIST_INBOUND
TRY.
      CALL METHOD cl_rstran_model=>factory
        EXPORTING
          i_tranid = i_tranid
        RECEIVING
          r_r_model = l_r_model.
    CATCH cx_rstran_exception.
      RAISE EXCEPTION TYPE cx_rs_step_failed

From SDN , i am quite sure that its a SAP problem and needs to apply some Note.
Could anyone please tell me, which note i should apply ?

DTp issue in process chain

HI guys,
I have an issue with DTP in process chain.
Actually we have a process cahin in quality as well as in development and production,the structure of chain in production and development is same but the structure in quality is not matching.we are getting 1 additional DTP in the chain in quality system .when we run the chain it get fail at the additional DTP,and the process cahin get stopped.
now iam not able to find out wher from this additional DTP came and how to find out wher exactly it is from and how to restart the chain.
can anybody help me out?Its very urgent for me.

Hi,
I have asked u to deschedule the process chain and then Check the Process chain using the Check View..
I think that this is a dummy process which has got added when u have done the transport.
Check if u can see the error DTP when u check.. then u can delete this DTP as this is a Dummy one.. and then link the processes if the link breaks bcz of this... and then check the PC again, and activate the same..
Finally u can use PC after this..

Save a csv file on local host, executing a DTP Open hub in a Process chain?

my client has asked me to try if there is a way to save in the local host c:\ a .CSV file generated from an Open HUB executed by a DTP in a Process chain.
when i execute my DTP it work correctly and it save the .csv file on my c:\ directory.
my client doesn't want to give th users authtorization on RSA1 and want to try if there is a way to put the DTP in a process chain
and when executing the process chain every user can have the file on his own local c:\ directory.
i tried this solution but it doesn't work i get an error on executin the process chain:

Hi Bilal,
Unfortunately, DTPs belonging to Open Hubs wich are targeted to a local workstation file, can't be executed through a process chain.
The only way of including such DTP in a process chain is changing the Open Hub so that it writes the output file in the application server. Then, you can retrieve the file -through FTP or any other means- from the application server to the local workstation.

First DTP in Process chain giving Error "CX_RSB_WRITE_ERROR"

Hi All,
I am facing a problem when I execute a process chain.
I have a master process chain and 3 sub process chains. Each of these sub process chains are having some DTP in it in a sequential order. These DTP's are Independent of each other, so even if the first one gives you errors, the remaining ones will get executed.
These DTP's are used to put some files in to the Open Hub Destination, which is the application server, using logical files names.
now the problem is that, when i execute the master Process Chain, the first DTP in each of the sub Process chains are getting failed by giving an error. the error is as follows.
Error : Uncaught_exception.
Exception : CX_RSB_WRITE_ERROR
Any idea in how to correct this? Any help in this regard will be highly appreciated.

You might have missed some parameters in the FILE transaction.

This might not be an security or authorization issue if u did not face such issue earlier. if so check with BASIS and add security roles to the generic user.

Process Chain Status Red, DTP status yellow, DTP is green from inside

Hello All,
I have a problem where the Process Chain status is red, but the process(DTP) status is yellow.
When I right click on the yellow process there is no error message and the DTP is green in Process Monitor.
But the chain did not complete and the rest of the process steps are grey.
After 20 minutes the Process Chain ran again(automatically after new data arrived) and this time without errors and it went green.
My question is, how to proceed with the red Process chain and complete the further process and make it green.

hi,
There are scenarios where you need to change status of a process chain or a particular step in process chain.
You might need to change the status in the cases where we need mark these steps successful so that dependent steps get processed. There are other scenarios where one needs to change the status of a single step in the process chain or status of whole process chain.
Step by step instructions on change process chain status
1. Right click on the failed step in the process chain monitor and go to displaying messages
2. Go to u2018Chainu2019 tab and note down variant, instance and start date
3. Go to SE16 and the table RSPCPROCESSLOG and enter variant, instance and start dates from step 2 and note down log_id, type, variant, instance.
4. Go to SE37 transaction and execute the function module RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH and enter the values from step 3 and enter the new status u2018Gu2019 in status field and execute the FM
5. This sets the status of the process chain (PC)
After you set the status using the FM, go to the monitor screen of the process chain, you will notice the changed status. Now dependent steps in the process chain will start running

Error in Process Chain for DTP- Job not finished

Hi Experts,
We have an issue with one of our process chains. When we execute the chain manually, there is no problem. BUt if we schedule the chain, issues arise. the last part of the chain is DTP. But the job doesnt finished even if the DTP step si already green. Locks occur for the DTP and the infoobject. When we look at the job log in SM37, it is still active. But this should not take a long time, since if we execute it manually it is ok.

The question is, why the program RSBATCH_EXECUTE_PROZESS is not scheduled. Is it because there is no free resource? Or poor response from SAP ECC?
Finally what does "EXTRACTION OF DATAPACKAGE 000001" mean? Its not scheduled?

How to identify the dtp used in the process chain in bi 7?

I have a a couple of dtp in the production system, i need to find out what are all the process chains using this DTP?

Right click on DTP - If 'process chain' option is enabled for navigation it means it's already used by Process chain - click on it will take you to PC
If it's disabled then It's not locked in any PC

Transporting Process Chains-includes the ERROR DTPs in the Target System

Hello Gurus,
Iam facing an issue in version NW2004s while transporting the Process Chains from DEV to QA. The Process Chains in the Target system are including the ERROR Dtps as parallel loads along with the regular DTP.This happens when there exists an ERROR DTP in the Target system at the time of Transport.
This will cause a problem
1.these would run parallel to the regular DTPs.
2.no of back ground processes running at any point will be beyond our limit.
Let me know if you have faced the same issue and how you resolved it.

Change of DTP tech name in transport causes error in Process chain

Hello people,
This message was posted before and I do not think there was an answer. I hope I have better luck.
When we transport DTP and process chain, the DTP tech name is changed in the target system while the DTP specified in the transported process chain remains as the source system. This causes an error in the process chain in the target system because it cannot recognise the DTP specified in it. To rectify it, I modify the process chain in the target system to point to the DTP with the new tech name. Is there another way such that I do not need to modify the target system.
I am currently trying to find an answer and I will share if I find one. Thanks.

I then re-transport the request with the DTP and process chain. The expected result is the dtp in the process chain should be pointing to the new dtp. CHeers.

Error transport, when the DTP is implemented in Process chain

If we deleted the DTP in the process chain first, then reimport the transformation, the transport will be succesful. But that is not really the solution, isn't it? What is here the phenomenon? Do we need some setting else or is there any SAP notes for this?

sorry that I may not be clear in my explaination. The Scenario is below:
- we create a transformation in C
- transport it to Q and create there DTP and process chain. It works well for a long time.
- then change something in transformation in C due to an enhancement
- try to transport transformation to Q, but it failed. Transformation inactive. DTP inactive.
- try again by deletion DTP in PC (in Q)
- reimport transformation again --> that works. Transformation transported and active in Q. But DTP lost and we have to re-create it in PC.
Question: is there any method to avoid the step of DTP-deletion ? Thank you!

after transportation DTP technical name is differ in prod and dev. process chain is went inactive.
i have read some related threads, i'm not find any suitable solution for this.
we don't have access to change process chain(they are not willing to open prod system)

Hi,
I have observed the behavior of changing technical name for DTP but still I think your process chain should not become inactive due to this. I think process chain somehow adjust the new technical name but anyways you should be able to change the DTP in process chain directly in production system.
If that is not possible you can just try re-transporting it.

Urgent Issue - Copy DTP and Process Chains in New Client Instance

We have created new client Instance ( CLNT 510 ) based on our present client ( CLNT 500 ).
We have all the process changes, application components from source system CLNT 500 and data ( both for master and transaction data ) in place for the CLNT 500.
Now we need to use the CLNT 510 for our futher development. RFC connection has been established.
Just want to know, do we need to create all the Application component trasfer , Transformation, DTP , Infopackages , Process chains again for the CLNT 510 data.

We have company implementing mutiple SAP Implementations in different countries.
Client for BW Dev is 400.
Source system for Client BWD :
ECC Client ERP Dev - 500 ( for Holland Implementation )
ECC Client EPR Dev - 510 ( for German Implementation - Instance of ECC 500)
We are completed with the Client 500 implementation.
We are starting the german implementation and they have created a intance of Holland ECC Dev client 500 for german implementation with german data.
Now they have setup 2 rfc connection in BWD 400.
Also finally when they move to QAS client they are going to integrate the data of the both countries into one client.
Presenlty I need to use ECC client 510 client for our german development.
We have around 40 SAP BI reports in our first implementation. and around 10 in our second implementation.
Just want to know, what are issues to be considered in loading master data ( will it overwrite the master data from the client 500, if i extract the master data from client 510 )...and all the other issues like can I copy all the process chains...etc from client ECC 500 to ECC 510, without creating all transformation, DTP , Infopackages to load all the master from client 510 again.
I need a broad understand on how to go about the development ...starting with Application Components transfer from source system Client 510 ....to report development. ( if possible using the already created objects....infopackages , DTP etc..)
