Process Chain variants

Hi, we have recently made a copy of our BW Production system to our Quality system. The variants for the Process chains were not copied during the copy.Because of this, now whenever we try to execute a process chain in quality we keep getting the pop up screens repeatedly saying that the variants are not existing. We are hitting the enter key to avoid these pop up screens.
I would like to know how to get rid of this problem and schedule the process chains smoothly.

If you have necessary authorization, you can remove the current process chains without variants and again you can repeat the copying of all process chains from Prod to quality with all the variants....this will take a little bit of work but solve your problem one for all

Error in process chain variant when executing BI IP planning sequence

Hi All,
I am trying to execute a planning sequnce as a background job using a process chain. Here one of the variant failed giving an error as : Overflow occurred when calculating <Key figure name> with value 6.5231044352058409E18+.
I tried executing that process chain variant separately using the ABAP program RSPLS_PLSEQ_EXECUTE as a background job, but still its not working.
At last I tried executing the individual planning step in the planning modeler, but again the same error.
Earlier such case was resolved by compressing the planning cube requests and executing the failed variant using the ABAP program, but this time even compression is not helping to solve this.
Can anyone please help on this issue ?

This Key figure is created of the data type CURR (Stored as decimal) for Amount type. Now the length of CURR is maintained by SAP as 17 with 2 decimal places, so do you mean that I have to switch to other data type to hold the large value that is getting generated.
My concern is : the error is coming for just one of the variant of the chain and not for other variants. If it has something to do with the KF data type, then certainly all others variants must have thrown the same error.

Error in process chain variant

Hi all.
I get an error "Variant ALL is not persistent" when I try to add the "Adjustment of Time-Dependent Aggregates"(TIMCHNGRUN) process type to mye process chain. The error message is RSPC023. I am unable to change the variant, or create a new one. I get the same error if I try.
I suspect that this variant is corrupt or something like that. Any help on this one?

How to delete Process Chain Variant

Hello,
1. Select the necessary process type from the menu.
2. Type in the technical name of the variant and click change button.
3. When maintenance screen is opened you can delete the variant by clicking delete button.
or
chk the tables for your variants :
RSPCVARIANTATTR
RSPCVARIANT
RSPCVARIANTT
RSPCTRIGGER
Or you can go to maintain variant for any existing variant and choose your variant form the list, delete it.

Process Chain Variant

Hi All,
We are using BW 3.5. We have a scenario where we are loading data from a Source ODS to one Target CUBE and one Target ODS. I have created the Delta Initialization for the Datamart Infosource and the Data got loaded to cube and ODS simultaneously. In both the target data was ready for reporting. Then I did a delta update, data got loaded to both but was ready for reporting only for Cube but not for ODS.
The Process chain which loads the Source ODS has Further Processing step but it's not taking care of Activating the Target ODS. Should I create a Process Chain variant to Activate the ODS separately?

Hi,
In the PC after the step where you have loaded data in the DSO you have to create a ACR to activate the DSO.
Do this:
Go to process types, select other BW processes. In that select 'Attributr Change Run' and drag it.
Create a variant for it. Then it will ask you for the Object type, there you have to give the name of the DTP or the info package whichever is loading data into the DSO. Finally click on save.
This will ensure the DSO is activated after it is laoded.

Process Chains Variants

Hi,
I have a number of Process Chains running in my company. Is there a way to know the technical variant name and technical job name for these Process Chains.
That way when I go to SM37 and check, I can make out the jobs and variants related to these process chains that are running.
Please let me know. Any help is deeply appreciated .

Here is answer for your queries...
The table RSPCLOGCHAIN would give you the information regarding which chains are running/completed/failed etc.
The table RSPCPROCESSLOG would give you, which process step in the process chain is actually executing.
Once you know the Chain Name, for which you want to get the status, use the following function modules
RSPC_API_CHAIN_GET_STATUS
Gives you if a chain is running/completed/failed.
RSPC_API_CHAIN_GET_LOG
Gives you a detailed log of the process chain(Each steps)
The tables mentioned above would give you the following information
R Ended with errors
G Successfully completed
F Completed
A Active
X Canceled
P Planned
S Skipped at restart
Q Released
Y Ready
Undefined
J Framework Error When Ending (e.g. Subsequent Job Missing)

Process chain variants suspended

Hi Friends
We have daily loads through process chains and every running properly and we are on BW3.5 version.
However last night all our daily loads start variant just started and cancelled the jobs, the following variants delete index ,data load from R/3 variants not schedulled.
It's not for only one process chainl,it's happened for all process chains.Just start variant started then the next variant could not started.It's on production system.
What could be the problem?

I am not sure about the cause. But we faced a similar situation. I will explain the procedure we peformed to resolve it.
Symptom: The chain is hanging in yellow state at start variant itself without going further (when it is not getting triggered / process is in yellow for a long time). If that is the case try this.
Go to Chain in Planning view.
then go to variant maintenance for the start process. (Where we schedule the chain)
Select "Start Using Metachain or API" option and save.
Come back to planning view and Trigger/Schedule the chain.
Go to Log View.
Then go to tab "view" and select "Merge active version".
Come back to Log view and right clic k(context menu) on the process which is in yellow/incorrect process. you will see a message called "Stop process again".
Click it and then refresh.
The chain should start running from where it was hanging.
Procedure for System Administration (Once the chain is over)
Steps added to put change the Process Chain back to the original stage:
1. Re-select "Direct Scheduling"
2. Re-activate and schedule the Process chain.

Process chain variant for Acivaton of DSO error!!!

I have a data flow which has three data sources A B C ...A and B are connected to DSO X and C is connected to DSO Y,
DSO X and Y are again connected to DSO Z....DSO Z is connected to Final Target (Info Cube M).
Now Iam created a Process chain ...After Start Variant Iam running the Delta Info Packs for B and C (A's Delta Info pack runs in some other chain).
Then using Update from PSA for A B C ...using AND for A&B PSA to load in to DSO X...paralelly I used C PSA update in to DSO Y...Then used AND to load X& Y to Z...
When I run the process chain it runs good twice...we created a job in SM37 to run this job for every 4 hours....when I come back and see ...DSO X has data loaded and activated
But DSO Y loaded the data but activation doesnt took...When I see the Process chain logs its giving the following error msgs.
                                    - 1 -
      Request REQU_D3DR8GR9CPUIA56IMER47VWW7 (0000060949) is not
      available in data target. No PSA process possible.
Like this error each chain is showing error messages with the request numbers which are already activated in DSO.I donno when the req is already there as active why activation looking for that old req?
I fixed it by manually updating the DSOs and Cube...Can anybody let me know how to fix this in Process chain.

I think you may have a timing issue, as when you perform this update manually there is no issue's.
I would suggest you load both ODS's then you activate the data on both, then you have the AND step once both have been activated to then feed the data to the subsequent Infoprovider.
This should resolve your issue.

Process chain variant time not getting changed

Hi All
I have a process chain which runs at 7.00 p.m in the evening..but now i want that to run at 11:00 p.m..so i went and changed the variant and saved it..even after that it is getting executed in the previous time only..can i know what would be problem...

Hi ,
You need to Remove the scheduling of this process chain and then re-reschedule it again to avoid any error.
TO remove from scheduling
RSPC --> Select the respect process chain > Go to "Execution">click on " Remove from Schedue"
then go ahead with re-schedulling steps again.

Deleting Process Chain variants

I apologize if this answer is already in these forums! I'm a first timer and I've searched as much as I know how.
We have created many process chains over the past 2 years which have been tweaked and tweaked. Whenever I add a new Process type to a chain, I'm prompted for a variant. I can either pick from an existing, or create a new one. Our list of existing variants has grown and I would really like to clean up old / unused variants. I would like to know if there is a way to find out whether a variant is currently used in a Process Chain or not.
Some of my searches on the forum have retrieved a list of tables associated with Process Chains, i.e. RSPC*. I'd prefer not to cross-check each step in my chains against this list of 29 tables to determine which is actually used. I'd hope there's an easier way?

Hi:
You have some options to do this. some are.
a) In RSPCM, Click on process chain, go into PLANNING VIEW. Now when you edit the process chain (ex: double clicking on the START variant), it will display the variant properties. You can find the delete button on the top, just click on that.
b) If not, just do a selection criteria (F4) on the variant, select the variant you want to delete and then hit delete.

Improper working of Process Chain Variants

Hi Guys,
I have created a process chain and put a variant to delete all PSA requests and overlapping requests in cube, but it seems that these variants are not working properly. As while execution it shows Green (working properly) but if check the PSA, I could still find previous requests and it happens in the case of delete overlapping requests as well.
Please suggest something as it is hampering the performance of Production system, also due to full load in cube causing report out of balance.

Hi Saurabh,
If you are using the Delete Overlapping Request deletion step then make sure that you are using correct settings for the request deletion step.
Just reveiw your settings, Please refer the below thread and confirm if the settings are correct? There several links have also been mentioned, please refer them aswell to get a clear picture of the settings to be used in overalpping request deletion for it to work fine.
Re: Delete Overlapping Requests from Cube not deleting old full requests
For PSA deletion not working fine, i suspect if there are any incosistent requests in your PSA. These requests would need to be deleted manually before your PSA request deletion process start to work fine. Please use the program RSAR_PSA_CLEANUP_DIRECTORY_MS
First select " persistant staging area" , put the PSA table name ( PSA table name can be obtained from Manage screen of DataSOurce)
and check the "repair" option. Once the PSA partition is corrected , you would be able to delete PSA requests there after.
also in case if there are more than 1 PSA's then i would suggest you to create a seperate chain for PSA request deletion as suggsted above, this would help you monitor the PSA deletion in a much better way.

Setting Parallelism in Process Chain Variants

Hi,
How to I get an ODS Activation Variant to use the default setting for ODS Activation maintained in RSBATCH? Once the parallelism setting for a variant is maintained I can only specify a value. I'm unable to remove the setting so that the variant uses the RSBATCH default for ODS Activation. Anyone know how to do this?

Try this,Go to Tx RSBATCH-- Settings for Parellel Processing--Select the process(ODS Activation )
Select the tab * Mass Maintenance of All Settings for Parellel Processing.*
You will be able to see the ODS activation settings in the row,select that row , delete it and save.
It should remove the settings.

Process chain program variant will not change from yellow...

I have a process chain that has two branches with 3 process chain variants on each leg in a parallel configuration. The process chain variants run different program variants. I am using variant object called "ABAP Program with Success/Failure " which can have a yellow, green, or red status and has status arrows that can be either red or green that connect to other process chain variants. The program executed with these variants is a customized BPS UPC_BUNDLE_EXECUTE program. When I run this PC the first variant on each leg usually hangs indefinitley on the yellow status. In the Backg tab log (double click PC variant in Log View) I can see the various SQL code that was ran. The last line of the log is an SQL-END:... Sometimes it will get past the first 2 varaints and hang on the next set of 2. Other times it will just hang on the last variant of one leg. It is very sporadic.
<b>What I have observed and tried:</b>
If I check my SM51 for the server the chain is running on I can see that the program in question is not running. If I run the same program through SE38 that runs via a PC variant it runs sucessfully in an appropriate amount of time. If I kill the process that has been running indefinitley through SM51 the process chain variant will go from a yellow status to a red as expected.
I changed they way I ran the programs from running in parallel in 2 legs to running all of them in one leg serially. That did not work. At least one program variant will hang on the yellow status.
I replaced all the variants using "ABAP Program with Success/Failure" to "ABAP Program" which has a red/green status but no red or green arrows, but black coming out of the variant forcing it to move down the chain on a sucess or failure. The process chain variants also hung in the yellow status using the "ABAP Program" variant.
I have tried starting the process chain using both "Direct Scheduling" with "Immediate" and "After Event." I have also kicked it off using "Start Using Meta Chain or API" so it was functioning as a sub process chain. Programs were still yellow in every case without changing to red or green.
I created new process chain variants for every single program/variant that I am using. Still no luck.
I have tried removing the chain from the schedule and re-activating and re-running and still no luck.

Process chain transport issue: variant

Hi xperts!
I've an issue regarding incomplete transports of process chain variants.
I've maintained the variant description & the recipient list.
When the request is imported in QAS, I'm missing the details of the variants. QAS-table RSPCVARIANTT is empty regarding type MAIL.
In addition the recipients 've not been imported too.
How can I transport the missing settings?
Pls. give an advice. Txs a lot in advance.

Hi,
would suggest you to go by this..
in the RSPC t-code go to the chain you want to transport and activate each step and sub chain if any...firsy and store it in a temporary request ....and then click on the truck button the top.....it will take you to the transport connection and there you can see obnjects are still in temp TR.
delee these TR now refresh the window of transport connection and you will see that it's not present in any TR now.
once done just select the main chain and then again create TR.
this time you can see it contains all the objects.
try to keep only necessary objects and delete all the unwanted objects from that.

Cannot update data from DSO to Cube with further update in process chain

              This is the message am getting when am trying to update to cube by process further update with process chain.Process fails at further update with the following below message.
However at DSO level i can see the data mart status but no request at cube level.
Error Message:
Cannot update request REQU_D57WAP7Z2WAI1CG5Y5OQ5W7JR in data target
    Message no. RSM1523
Diagnosis
    System checks show that request REQU_D57WAP7Z2WAI1CG5Y5OQ5W7JR cannot be
    updated to a data target.
    The system checked whether
    o   request REQU_D57WAP7Z2WAI1CG5Y5OQ5W7JR is already in the data target
    o   the data target has active update rules for the InfoSource
    o   the data target was selected for updating
    o   locks exist
    o   for a DataStore object as a data target, that the request was
        updated in the correct order, if the DataStore object stipulates
When i check the monitor screen under status tab it says "A caller 01, 02 or equal to or greater than 20 contains an error meesage" and under details tab "Data Package 1 : arrived in BW ; Processing : Data packet not yet processed "

It seems you used infopack when you select update data inot datatarget then system prompts you a infopack.That's the infopack which is generated by system being used in process chain variant to update data into datatarget.
Create new infopack/ DTP manually then use that infoapck/DTP on the process chain variant then try.
