Process chains can be created in Production server?
Friends,
I'm new to Process chains. We have 3 servers, Development, Testing and Production.
I want to know do we need to create process chain in Production server directly or we have to create in Development server and then move it to Test and then in to Production? Please suggest me.

Hello Joe,
Different people follow different ideas: You can make the chains directly in Prod and maintain them there, or you can also create in Dev and transport them. We maintain them directly in production. This point has been discussed many times in the forums...a quick search should help you get a lot more info.

In many Comp's Transports will be happening in a weekly basis or monthly basis, then if you want to use the objects urgently:
In production system you can create and maintain Infopackges, no issues.
Also you can create Manual hierarchies for any InfoObject.
For process chains best thing to do is go to RSPC go to unassigned chains you can find either process chains which are created and not being used or Test process chains, which can be edited.
Remove the processes from unused or waste chains and add Ur DTPs etc., so that Ur chain can be created. Assign that chain to Ur component in RSPC.
And the other option is you can create new chain in Prod system itself if you have developer access.
If you can Transport Ur objects on daily basis period then create a new chain in Dev, Test in QA and ransport it PRD.

Process Chain error while creating index on cube
Hi All,
I have two process chain P1 daily(except sunday) and P2 weekly(sunday), both have same process, i.e. cube C1 is loaded with same infopackage in both infopackage.
Now, on saturday after laoding the content index creating process on cube c1 is failed by process chain P1, but on sunday P2 have laoded C1 correctly and created indexes.
Now, my doubt is wheather i repeat process chain P1 from creating indexes or there is no need as indexes on cube are created by PC 2.

There is no need of running the process chain P1, the data has been bought by the process chain P2.
If there are any filters/data selection in infopackage level then you need to run the process chain P1.
Be make sure about the process chains and there infopackages/dtp's.

I installed the Progress OpenEdge ODBC driver for 32 bit database on my win7 workstation -- I used odbcad32.exe located at C:\Windows\SysWOW64 to configure the driver for 32 bit applications -- per the screen Shots here and I am able to connect to the datasource
from Excel Query.
I am able to connect to this ODBC datasource from Excel Query and see all the tables -- as in the screen shot. I can also access this datasource from a C# app.
Question: if I can connect to this ODBC datasource from Excel -- does this mean I should be able to create a linked server to it? I tried the following from SSMS Linked Serber Wizard on a Sql Server 2000 (I have used the Linked server wizard
successfully in the past as well as linking with Tsql SPs). This will at least create a mock Linked server on the Sql server 2000 (this does not work on sql server 2008 -- I tried), but when I try to view the catalogs -- I get the error in the screen
shot below. If the answer to my question is "YES" yes I should be able to create a linked server to this ODBC datasource what is the way to do this? I added the UserID and Password in the Security tab, but I did not see where to add the
port (4000). What do I enter for the Product Name? Can it be arbitrary or does it have to be something specific?
Rich PYes, you should be able to set up this as a linked server - from a 32-bit instance of SQL Server. That is, you can't use a 32-bit driver on 64-bit SQL Server. Now, since you have SQL 2000, I assume that this is a 32-bit instance. (But there was a 64-bit
version for Itanium of SQL 2000.)
For the Provider string, I would guess that you should enter something like
Driver={Progress 11.3 OpenEdge Driver}
just like you do in your application code.
Basically, in the provider string, you specify your connection string, except that you take out the provider name, which is a separate parameter to sp_addlinkedserver. Since I know nothing about Progress, I can't give any specific details.
The error message you get is somewhat puzzling, since this refers to SQLOLEDB which is the provider to access an SQL Server instance.

Process chain start variant repaired in production

I took up tasks from our previous Bi team
I am told we have followed the regular process of DEV -- QA and PROD for all process chains
I see a strange observation in Production for a particular process chain in its start variant
It is shown to run as immediate in the start variant, in the detail view , but
it runs scheduled at a certain time every day, I can see the scheduled jobs released
I see that in production it is attached to a request in repaired status
process chain works fine and triggers regularly
I am unable to understand why it shows as immediate in the start variant and however runs on a regular scheduleHi
1) why does the start variant of this META chain show up as immediate, when it is actually running scheduled ?
are you able to see the chain in green color(scheduled state).
when you right click on start process chain step and you have option to select display scheduled job?..if yes check the start condition by double click on job.
2)Does the change directly in production, could have brought in this behavior?
We can change the start condition of process chain, when right click on start variant and select display variant..here you can see last changed name
3) If , I re transport the whole META chain from DEV-QA --PRD , will the start variant change or will it cause trouble considering the fact that the start variant was repaired in PROD directly.
No need to transport again, if you know the start condition of process chain, edit the same in prod and save it.

Process chain failed on creating Indexes
Hello All,
Since a few days our process chains have failed because of an impossibility to create Indexes.
Job BI_PROCESS_INDEX can run for 3 days without any result. Usually it runs during 4 seconds.
When we stop this job, the next day the process chain fails to delete indexes.
If we run RSRV for our infocube we get the following error :
ORACLE: The status of index /BI0/E0PA_C01~040 is INVALID
Our DBA says it's a BW issue.
Any idea to solve this issue ?

I hope u followed the below to check cube.
RSRV -> Tests in Transaction RSRV -> All Elementary Tests -> Database -> Database Statistics for an InfoCube and its Aggregates
In that case, did u execute "Correct Error" (button in toolbar) to fix that error ?
If that does not fix the issue,
cannot u delete (button in toolbar) and reschedule Process chain (delete index -> DTP load to Cube -> create index) to create index ?? -

Thank youWhen I open any of the those apps, it creates a HTTP server with over 192.168.1.3:8080. In my own app it detects tha IP and return a "Conection OK" message but connection:DidFailWithError gives me the "can't connect to host" message.
When I open Air Sharing on my iPod and at the same time my own app on the simulator I got a succesful connection. So it makes me feel that I do not really know what is the correct command to open a connection. -
SunONE Web Server 6.1 on linux: can't create a new server

When we try to create a new server from the Admin server ("Add Server" button), and after fill the form and click OK, we get the following error in the "errors" log file of the admin server:

Process chain can't activate ods

I have a Process chain like this.

after the process chain has been scheduling the data loading process run very good. But it's stuck at the activate ODS. The ODS can't be activated so the data can't fill into the infoCube.
Is my Process chain well defined?
Does anyone know how to solve the problem?

when I check the request of ODS the request, which has been made by the process chain, it is green.
"Call log" of that request, them all green.
but it just has one tab:

instead of 2 tab like I load by hand:

Maybe the problem happen in the "Active data store Obj"

Yes you can start from where it failed.It depends on the process where the chain has failed.
Right click and see if you have option for repeat,
PC - Log -Failed Process -Right Click -Repeat(if system allows).

How can I create a portal server authentication user with a batch
hi,
I am trying to import users into the portal server emulating the create user procedure as plumtree. What I cannot understand at the moment is which classes are involved in the sequence of creating a user.
the problem starts from the fact that I have used a synch WS and it works but, being the table a dummy one and the users to be authenticated by the portal server, I couldn't use that synch as a definitive.
I tryed using plumtree.server.CIPTUser class with no success. could not understand how to actually create the user after setting the parameters to the object.
Is there any documentation explaining how to create the portal server emulation of create user. this could be usefull for all those cases when there is no central repository of user and passwords.

How can I create a web server with Java?
I was interested in working on a program that runs through it's own port on the server similar to webmin.. Basically I'd like a light-weight no thrills web-server for the base of my program I can tweak it later. How can I do this?

Can you create a product report with attributes?
I have tried create a customer and orders report in order to show a list of people who have purchased classes..
My product is setup as : SATURDAY CLASSES, with product attributes eg: JAZZ, BALLET, DRAMA etc
When I run the report, it only shows the initial product, SATURDAY CLASSES, and no attributes.
Report goes like this:
Custom Reports > Add a Customer Report
> Customers and Orders > Then I choose my fields required.. and Generate Report.
I realise to fix this problem I could change the products to individual products and group them together, but that means the product discounts I have set up wouldn't work....
Which makes it hard to see who has booked into which class..
Is there any way to run a report that will show attributes?Our reports currently do not include product attributes. I believe that this item is on the wishlist so I would encourage you to go there and vote for it.

Removing the "target server" from process chain jobs
Dear SAP Community,
Please note we are on BW version 3.5
We have a very large number of process chains that are used to load data in the production environment. Many of those process chains have a "target server" specified, so that the jobs will run only on the central instance.
A new application server has just been added to the environment, and we want to remove the "target server" definition so that the dispatcher will be free to load balance the process chain jobs.
We can see the attributes for each process chain are stored in a table called RSPCCHAINATTR.
Please let me know: can we update the value of field SERVER in table RSPCCHAINATTR, to set it to blank using SQL-PLUS ?
And then can we run a /$sync to bring these changes up into the application layer ?
This would save tons of time & manual effort, and it would set the target server to blank for all of the process chains at once, instead of clicking manually so many times to clear the value for each process chain.
Please let me know if we can take this approach ? Is there any chance of the process chains becoming inactive by doing this ?

Now, If u execute process chain, system will prompt you assign server/host name. To skip this follow the below.
Again use RSBATCH, under 'Background and Parallel Processes' tab, click 'Switch Off F4 Popup for Server/Host/Group', enter * (star) under Users for 'Users for Whom NO Server/Host/Group Popup Should be Processed'.
Now, If u execute process chain, it should run on either of servers.
Since u added Appln Server, best bet would be creating a server group. See the below link.

I am using BI 7.0. I followed the following steps to create a process chain:
1. Create Start Process
2. Create Process Variant
3. And once this is created and saved, I clicked on process types
4. I dragged and dropped the Execute InfoPackage to the right side
5. And here, when I click on F4, it says, No Data Selected.
I have lot of infopackages that are created in my Datawarehousing Workbench.
But I am unable to view them...please let me know, how do I go about solving them...would definitely assign points for the solution. Thanks in advance.

just go to your administrative workbench and select your info package and copy the technical name... and now go to your process chain.. now click on Execute info package process type.. -> in that search help.. you can choose find option and give your info package technical name..(which you copied ) and press enter..
