Process Flow in OWB

I understand that in OWB 9.0.4, available in Feb 2003, process flow diagrams can be drawn within the OWB design UI elegantly.
Does this also mean that we can schedule jobs to run from within OWB 9.0.4 instead of using another scheduling tool (e.g. OEM, Workflow etc.)?
Cheers,
Chris

Another question about process flow in 9.0.4:
Will there be better support for distributed environments? What I am looking for is the ability to at some stage in a Workflow start a second Workflow which has a different target (different runtime environment on a different server)

  • Executing Process Flow from OWB Deployment Manager results in RPE-01008

    Hi,
I'm using OWB 10.1.0.1.0 (10g) and just installed Oracle Workflow Server 2.6.3.
I can build, validate and generate Process Flows just fine. But every time I try to execute a Process Flow using OWB Deployment Manager, I'm getting a "RPE-01008: Recovery of this request is in progress". Execution of deployed Process Flows using Oracle Workflow Interface works just fine.
    Anyone has an idea?
    Thanks and regards

  • Experts VS Process Flows on OWB 10g Release 2 (Paris)

I was looking at the the new features list for OWB 10g Release 2 (Paris), and I notices the new feature called Experts. Does anyone have any insight into when an Expert would be used instead of a Process Flow? It doesn't look like Process Flows are going away, so I was trying to get a grasp of the use for Experts.
    From Here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/warehouse/htdocs/owb10gr2%20new%20features.htm
Experts. Experts are solutions that enable advanced users to design solutions that simplify routine or complex tasks that end users perform in Warehouse Builder. You can design these solutions in the Expert Editor which resembles the Process Flow Editor and shares many of the same commands and navigational tools.

    Hi,
Just to start with the Experts capabilities, they can be used for designing schema objects.......I tried with an expert for sampling the source files, creating External Tables on top of it....validating and deploying..........itz very interesting to work with.........I am unable to see the practical use of this for end users.....
where as we all know, the PF can only be for executing the deployed objects.....

  • Error While Importing Process Flow in OWB Repository.

    Hi All,
OWB Config Details is as follows:
Oracle 9i Warehouse Builder Client: 9.2.0.2.8
Oracle 9i Warehouse Builder Repository: 9.2.0.2.0
Following Error Message is displayed when i tried to import process flow from one OWB Repositoty to another OWB Repository.
Warning at line 23: MDL1312: Referenced logical location with name <PF_STG_INC_LOC> and UOID <F3940F1D5EB84985E0340003BA0AF737> not found for PROCESSMODULE <SALES_INC>. Logical location not set for this module.

Informational: MDL1134: COMMIT issued at end of import data file.

Hello, all the errors you've been given are related to missing objects.
You should re-create/import the location for you process flows before importing the process flows themselves.
Also verify that you have imported the procedures FLSTG.PROC_GET_ETL_DATA_DATE and FL_TRG_FLSTG.PROC_UPDATE_RECO_CTL because you use them in your process flows so you need them: OWB refuses to import a process flows if some objects are missing because it would break some links.
In general process flows should be imported where you have all the other objects in the repository because they are the final step and they reference many other objects.
    Hope this helps - Antonio

  • Problem with copying Process Flows in OWB 10.2.0.1..

    Hello
We have a complex process flow which runs fine. When we try to duplicate the process flow in design center by copy/paste operation, the new process flow seems to execute activities out of sequence. We tried saving/synchronizing the process flow (eact activity individually) with no luck.
We checked the repository browser and see all the activities and transitions in the right order. I looked at both OWB repository tables as well as Workflow tables/views. It just seems that the run time picks up the data in a different order and executes it.
Any idea on how to debug this?. We can't create each process flow from scratch every time we need to add new one which will be slightly different one from an existing process flow.
    Thanks
    Prakash

Find and read the thread about when queries take too long.
Something is different between the systems, possibly
    * indexing
    * volume of data
    * connect-by structure in table data
    * initialization or session settings

  • How to import Process Flows without OWB

    Hi,
I'm having trouble deploying my process flows to my PROD environment.
Process flows complile and run ok in TEST environment, and we are suppoused to deploy in both environments (TEST and PROD) from the same OWB repository, which is correct.
But due to technical problems with the net, by the moment I cannot see the PROD server from OWB repository installation, so I need to deploy manually (using scripts via SqlPlus or some other tool).
I can export the PFs from the 'generate' option provided by OWB, so I can get the file with the PFs' source code.
    What I don't know is:
    1) how to import/create that process flows in the new instance manually (I mean from outside OWB) from the exported file.
    2) where should I create them, in the workflow instance or in the owb repository instance?
    I'm working with OWB 10gR2
Can somebody help me with this?
    Thanks in advance
    Max

Many kinds of errors. For instance:
IMP-00017: following statement failed with ORACLE error 23327:
    "BEGIN SYS.DBMS_DEFER_IMPORT_INTERNAL.QUEUE_IMPORT_CHECK('ORACN230.WORLD',"
    "'IBMPC/WIN_NT-8.1.0'); END;"
    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 23327 encountered
ORA-23327: imported deferred rpc data does not match GLOBAL NAME and platform of importing db
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SYS_ERROR", line 86
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_DEFER_IMPORT_INTERNAL", line 30
    ORA-06512: at line 1
I dropped all users except for schemas related to database structure such as SYS,SYSTEM,OUTLN,SYSMAN,XDB, WMSYS. I do not have access to original database because it's belongs to another organization. Only I got is dump file and log which I know the exp is full database with username SYS. The original database and and destination database (which I handle) probablly have different features (when create database, optional scripts run from rdbms/admin might be different). I did use IGNORE=Y every time. I tried SYS or SYSTEM to import but always are scared by too many errors.

  • Process Flows in OWB

    Hi,
I am working in Oracle WareHouse Builder.
Is there any place in repository where i can get the metadata related to process flow.
As for mapping, we get it in view - all_rt_audit_map_runs. It gvies information related to a paritcular mapping.
But i want information related to a particular process flow.

    Hi Bharadwaj,
did you read this [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/owb.111/b31278/ref_processflows.htm#i1154803]Start activity in OWB user guide ?
And don't forget to [url http://blogs.oracle.com/warehousebuilder/2009/12/a_quick_way_to_inspect_dimension_loading_behavior.html] enable option Prompt for Execution Parameters as suggested Shawn

  • Design for process flow in OWB

    Hi Experts
I want to design my process flow. Please send the processflow design template/Document.
    Regards
    frnd

You define an Oracle Workflow location to specify where you want to deploy your process flows. The Oracle Workflow location points to a workflow schema that runs in the target database. Warehouse Builder process flows comply with the XML Process Definition Language (XPDL). When you generate a process flow, Warehouse Builder generates an XML file in the XPDL format. You can plug the generated XML file into any workflow engine that follows the XPDL standard.
Process Flow Modules include Process Flow Packages that include Process Flows. The Process Flow Package is a grouping mechanism that determines which process flows you can interrelate. At run time, you can launch one process flow that launches other Process Flows that exist in the same process flow package.
The Process Flow Module acts as a container by which you can validate, generate, and deploy a group of Process Flows.
So, it concludes that there is no standard design for process flows, it all depends to your datawarehouse and your ETL process(extracting, transformning. loading)

  • OWB-OWF - Process Flow Deployment - Database Link

    Hello there,
This post is basically related to my problem with Process Flow deployment.
Could someone please shed some light on the following:
When we create a Process Flow, during this process OWF creates a Database Link. For some reason, this link is not functional unless I remove the part after "." in that defines the "HOST" in the DB Link definition. How do I know it is not functional - I know because following query does not work:
    select * from [email protected]@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    Here is the link definition:
    ORIGINAL:
    create database link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    connect to RR
    identified by "<pwd>"
    using '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CENTENNI-2077E4.CENTENNIALCOLLEGE.CA)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=OWB92TRG)))'
MODIFIED (it works - above query runs OK):
    create database link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG
    connect to RR
    identified by "<pwd>"
    using '(DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS_LIST=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=CENTENNI-2077E4)(PORT=1521)))(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=OWB92TRG)))'
My second question is "using what userid/pwd should this link should have been created? Should it use "Runtime Repository Owner" or "OWB Repository Owner" or "Runtime Access User" or "OWF_MGR"?
No matter what userid I use, it works when I run the query but I always get following error when I try to deploy the "Process Flows" in OWB:
RPE-02085: Failed to test wb_rti_workflow_util.initialize through deployed Workflow Database Link OWB92TRG.US.ORACLE.COM@WB_LK_WF_PKG2. Please check that "EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE" privilege is set and that the OWB Runtime is available.
    - ORA-04052: error occurred when looking up remote object [email protected]@WB_LK_WF_PKG2
ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I have already granted the "EXECUTE ANY PROCEDURE" to OWF_MGR. I am not sure, though, what is meant by the "and that the OWB Runtime is available" part of the error message above.
I have also tried to fix this by running the "catrpc.sql" script but it did not help either.
I am stuck on this step for past few days. I would highly appreciate help in fixing this problem. Here is the configuration I am using:
o Source database : Oracle 9i (9.2) on my local PC
o Target database : Oracle 9i (9.2) on my local PC
    o OWB 9i
    o OWF 2.6.2
o OWB and OWF repositories are on the TARGET database
I am able to successfully deploy and run my MAPPINGs.
    TIA,
    Amer

    Hello Oracle support,
Should I open a TAR to get this problem resolved?
    Regards,
    Amer

  • Owb Process Flow getting hanged/stuck .

    Hi,
Problem description  :-  We have designed a Process Flow in OWB our project. The Process Flow is scheduled to run at 12.00 AM daily Dutch timings.
We have been facing a problem for around 3 months wherein the process gets hanged/stuck in between without giving any specific error message.
There isn't any kind of locking happening in the background as well. The OWB log gives the message "Forcibly deactivating execution with audit ID 1660235 ",
During the time at which the process hangs  The process gets hanged in different timings in different sub processes(not in a particular process, so no specific pattern has been observed.)
To complete the process flow, we need to kill the process and rerun it again. When reran, it runs perfectly without any error.
The above error message appears in the log only when a process hangs. There is no such kind of logging during a successful execution.
Can you please let us know when and why does this message appear in the OWB log file.
Is there any specific kind of settings or configuration parameters that needs to be set to resolve this.
    Regards,
    Rosy Mukherjee

You might want to check to see if you have anything "parallel" running
We recently had an issue with one of our mappings where one day it decided to just stop working and "freeze"
Our DBA found that we had a Oracle hint for "Parallel" in the code and removed it. After that the mapping ran fine.
    Best of luck

  • OWB Process Flow without  OWF

My question is very simple : is it meaningful to create Process Flow in OWB without any installation of Oracle Workflow (or something else like OWF) ?

I have same question. In addition, I would like to know if we use 9.2 process flow editor, do we need to know work flow? I need this info to decide we our folks need training on Oracle Workflow. From what I understand, with 9.2 Process Flow editor, we may not need workflow product.
