Hi DaveT,
For starters you do not need to set the binding to None (Object > Binding palette). I had this in the example, because originally I didn't want the field to take part in the import XML.
When dealing with data, more often than not you really do want the objects set with a binding.
Using $record are you accessing the imported XML or a data connection? If so I would set up the data connection first and then bind the appropriate fields to that data connection.

Can I import email addresses from a contact group into a new email?

Import email addresses? I'm trying to send an electronic invitation to a group of about 50 people. I have to enter each of their email addresses, and rather than typing them one by one, I'm wondering if I can import all of their email addresses from a group I created in my Address Book. I'm sending the invitation through the company's website, nut my email, so the email address does not appear when I start typing their names. Thanks!

Open a new message and start typing the groups name in the 'To' field works for me. Some e-mail providers have limits on how many addressees can be in one e-mail.

TS4139 I had 2 MobileMe email addresses, but only went thru ICloud process with one (my main address). Now the secondary address is not working with iCloud. Did I have to go thru the process with both addresses? Can I get that address back?

It was totally separate. I just now went back to a previous email from Apple to that secondary address which urged me to transition to iCloud. I followed the link and it prompted me thru the process and the address is now able to send/receive emails. Thanks.

Can't import the address part of a text file into Address Book

I am trying to import from a text file. It simply will not let me hit OK if I try to import the address information but works fine if I omit the address.
Any ideas? Getting very frustrated.

I exported my database in a tab delimited format from palm desktop on a windows machine.
I clicked import from the address book menu, selected "from text file". It opens the import window as you would expect it to. I begin to align the data with the proper fields. If I ignore all address information, it imports just fine, but obviously with no addresses. If I try to align any address information at all, it will not let me click ok. the button clicks, but does nothing. If I unselect the address info again, its imports. No directions are available to guide me and everything looks like it should work. Begining to feel like Im in windoze world again.

Unable to import Mac address book

I am unable to import my Mac Address Book into Thunderbird.
In thunderbird, I have gone to tools>import>address book>text file . Address Book is not highlighted, so I am not able to choose it.
I have also tried to export it from Address Book. In Address Book I have also gone to file>export>export Group vCard, and it's the same porblem, Address Book is not highlighted, so I am not able to choose it.
What am I missing? Can someone please help?

I just installed MFFAB 0.7 in a test profile of TB 31.1.1 with no problems, but on Win 7. Perhaps there is an issue installing it on the Mac OS, in which case I would contact the add-on author. Almost all add-ons can be installed on Win, OSX or Linux.
Otherwise, what happens if you open TB Address Book, Tools/Import, select Address Books, then vCard file, then select the .vcf file created from Mail app?

Problems Importing into Address Book

Trying to import my address book from a vcf file. I get the following error:
Are you sure you want to add 1511 cards to your address book? There were problems importing.
My address book file has 2308 cards, not 1511.
Any suggestion

If you open Address Book, click on Card menuitem and select Edit Template. This will show you what the current template is and what fields may be added to the template.
You can then edit the LDIF file when it's created to select only the desired export fields that will match the template.
I believe when you then import into Address Book you will have an opportunity to match up the corresponding fields. Been so long since I did this I don't remember.

Import of Addresses not working

I am trying to import the addresses that I had "backed up" to an external hard drive. But it isn't working.
First, I had to replace my hard drive. So, I followed the instructions in the Addressbook Help menu for "Backing up mailboxes and addresses". This directed me to copy the Mail folder, AddressBook folder and com.apple.mail.plist to my backup location. I verified that they are all there before I replaced the hard drive.
Now, as I try to reverse those steps, I don't get my many addresses. I also try the File > Import options (3 given) with no success.
I don't want to have to re-type all of my contacts. Why can't I just follow the simple instructions and they get moved into the current AddressBook?

I just found out one way to work this. Fortunately, my addresses had been copied to my me.com account. I was able to copy those back to my hard drive using the System Preferences > .mac > Sync commands.
It was a little scary at first because I didn't know if the next step I would take was going to erase my data. However, it eventually asked me if I wanted to "merge" my data or copy data to the computer or copy the data to me.com.
Me.com comes through! It could be set up a little better, but it worked.

You cannot. iTunes syncing of contacts is only supported through Outlook

did you follow the instruction on the spicebird web site http://spicebird.org/migration.html if you did your address book. settings and mail would all transfer without issue as the underlying formats are basically the same.

You cannot import addresses into Mail. You must import them into Address Book for them to be available in Mail. Open Address Book, then Help > Address Book Help, and read the “Importing contacts into Address Book” article to see how this works.

When importing my address book from Outlook why do I have multiple entries for the same contact?

I have an address book and it contains one list in Outlook. I just downloaded Thunderbird and imported my address book. The address book and one list imported very easily but there are anywhere from 3-5 entries for each person in my contacts. If I delete the extras they are removed from my list as well. Why are there multiple listings for each contact and how can I remove the duplicates without losing my list entries?

I just went thru all Seven copies of the pictures (accidental pics of my hands and the desk etc) and right clicked and moved them to trash, then I thought I'd look it up when I realized its not just these pics, but very many had een stored in groups of three or four.

Depends on where you saw them - If they were in the iPhoto library iPHoto has either two or three different versions (no duplicates) or each photos in its library - this is not optional and can not be changed -- If they were not in the iPhoto library then you can do what you please with them and they have nothing to do with iPhoto - iPhoto is only involved with the photos in its library

Very simple - if you do you will destroy your iPhoto library and have to start over losing all work you have done in iPhoto - The iPHoto library is a SQLite database and there are NO user servicable parts in the iPhoto library and any changes made using teh finder will corrupt the database and cause dataloss
