Process Management ES -- DB size
Hello,
I'd like to ask a question that may be a "dumb" one, but I want to be sure about something *before* an actual problem occurs
We're running a number of LiveCycle (ES U1) installations, both in test and productive environments, with quite some user-based processes. We noticed that the size of the LiveCycle database keeps on increasing over time. It's most noticeable on test systems which just use the turnkey MySQL, but it doesn't seem to be that much different with MSSQL.
What I'd like to know is this: What happens with data from processes that have been completed (especially instances of large document variables per step etc.)? Is there some kind of cleanup mechanism and if so, what triggers it? Is there any way to manually perform some maintenance tasks?
I guess every kind of information would be really helpful. Thanks a lot,
Steffen.
Hi Steffen
It's not a dumb question at all, it's a very good one.
There are two ways you can purge your LiveCycle database.
1. You can use the Adobe PurgeProcessTool. This tool completely deletes all trace of processes that meet a particular criteria (usually, they must be older than a certain date).
After you run the tool, that process and all its data will be gone - there is no record that it ever existed.
You can find a batch file (modify for Unix) at: C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\LiveCycle_ES_SDK\misc\Foundation\ProcessPurgeTool
Note: We've heard one report of corruption that may (or may not) be related to the use of this tool. (This is not FUD, just letting you know.) In this case, the user used "*" to try to delete everything from all categories. We recommend you only purge process types that you have created.
2. You can use the Avoka purge tool. This tool takes a slightly different approach. It leaves the old processes intact, but removes a whole lot of superfluous information that is stored along with the process instance. It removes:
The data associated with certain internal data structures. This data accounts for the vast majority of the size associated with process instances, and is generally completely superfluous. (The only exception is if you're invoking processes programmatically, and polling for the results.)
Optionally, the data associated with attachments within Workspace. It doesn't remove the record that there was an attachment, but if you try to download the attachment, it will be a zero byte file. Note that any attachments are duplicated at every single user step, potentially resulting in very large data in the database.
The bottom line is that it will dramatically reduce your database size, without removing your ability to search and track historical process instances.
You can find more information here: http://www.avoka.com/avoka/purge_util.shtml

S9 EPM Architect Process Manager fails to start.
Hi All,
I just tried doing Hyperion System9 installation and am encountering a problem.
The Problem is, Installations are all done and the Configuration also seems to be
fine as i get to know from seeing the Configuration utility window, but once i am done with
configuring the Performance Management Architect, i tried starting the
Hyperion S9 EPM Architect Process Manager and it was not starting, even i tried increasing the
timeout setting for the startup of the dimension Server in the BPMA_Server_Config.xml file.Still
it failed in starting..
Other than all the steps mentioned in the doc,Few steps i skipped during the Planning Installation was,
1.I didnt check the Activate instance option while creating the Planning Instance
2.I didnt Increase the Heap Size of App Server.
So could someone please suggest on what is creating the Problem during the startup.Hi,
For more detailed information on why it is not starting have a look in windows event log. In windows go to administrative tools > event viewer > application
Double click HyS9BPMA_ProcessManager and there should be a more detailed description in the window.
e.g. Service cannot be started. Hyperion.DimensionServer.ProcessManager.Interface.ProcessManagerException: Process Manager could not start because database connectivity could not be established. --->
Cheers

Unable to start Oracle Process Manager from the windows services for OBIEE
Hi,
I have OBIEE 11g installed on a 32-bit windows machine. Of the two windows services installed, I am unable to start the Oracle Process Manager. When I try to start it I get the following error:
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
At the back end, this service is calling the file opmn.exe which is placed at MIDDLEWAREHOME\Oracle_BI1\opmn\bin. On trying to execute this file the error we get is:
The procedure entry point longjmp could not be located in the dynamic link library orauts.dll
I have tried replacing the orauts.dll file, but to no avail.
Please let me know if you have any clue regarding what is to be done.
Thanks
NamanHi Naman,
This error occurs for the following reasons,
*Path variable is not set properly
*Multiple Oracle homes exists in the same machine.
Follow the below steps and let me know if it works,
1. Select My Computer -> Right Click -> Properties
2. In the System Properties screen go to Advanced Tab
3. Click on Environment Variables
4. In the System Variables section select PATH variable & Click edit
5. Now you will find that it will contain invalid directories. Remove the incorrect entries. This may happen when you have multiple oracle homes in the same machine
6. Restart the service.

BPEL Process Manager Generated WSDL
We are working on an ant build framework for a Oracle SOA Suite 10.1.3.3.0 project, consisting of a main BPEL process that is synchronously calling another BPEL process via an ESB. This second process uses the same ESB to call back the original process.
This of course leads to a circular deployment dependency, where the ESB requires both BPEL WSDLs before it can be deployed, and each BPEL process needs a WSDL for the ESB endpoint to be deployed.
We are attempting to short circuit this dependency by deploying a web application registry for the WSDLs in question, but this presents us with a further problem. The WSDLs used to communicate with the BPEL processes and ESB are not the project WSDLs, but appear to actually be describing web service wrappers generated on the application server side. In order to use the proposed web registry, we would need to be able to predictably generate these WSDLs (or at least representative versions).
In our example it looks like a case of generating binding and service elements and merging them with the BPEL project WSDL , but we do not feel that it is safe to assume anything about this behaviour and would prefer some kind of documentation to inform our decision.
So, a couple of questions:
1) Can anyone provide documentation and/or description of how the required web service endpoints are generated by the application server/BPEL process manager?
2) Alternatively, is there a better way of avoiding or dealing with the aforementioned circular dependency?
ThankyouI was wondering too what would be a could solution for the "circular dependency" situation.
In my current project we will build some mockup-bpels(just for the interface) for the time being. -
Problem to start BPEL Console of Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.1.0
Hi everyone!
I'm writing to yours because I installed Oracle BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.1.0 but I can't start BPEL Console. I tried to start it by the option menu of Windows XP and by Developer Prompt, but I get a HTTP 404 Not Found page. When I was installing the universall installer told me that it wasn't possible to set ORACLE_HOME variable because it had a value older than 1023 characteres. So, I continue the installation but I can't start the BPEL Console. The Dos Console teld me sometimes when I put http://localhost:9700/BPELConsole..timed out. So, tell me how to resolve that problem.
I'll be waiting your responses.

Thanks for your responses.
Greetings.Hi,
you said:
it wasn't possible to set ORACLE_HOME variable because it had a value older than 1023 characteres
What do you mean with older than 1023 chars?
I think the easiest way is to uninstall the BPEL Console and run the installer again with correcting the ORACLE_HOME problem... -
Problem installing BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.1.0
Hi,
I'm new to BPEL. I downloaded BPEL Process Manager 10.1.3.1.0 for OC4J for Windows. After the download while doing the Oracle Universal Installer I selected "BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier"
I get the following error:
BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier will run on top of a supported Oracle Applications Server 10.1.3.0 J2EE Server and Web Server OR J2EE Server instance. This location does not contain this instance. Please refer to the Installation Guide for supported versions. Please select a new Oracle Home that contains a supported instance.
Can anyone please let me know what could be the issue.
Thanks
-PrapoornaHi,
I'm new to BPEL. I downloaded BPEL Process Manager
10.1.3.1.0 for OC4J for Windows. After the download
while doing the Oracle Universal Installer I selected
"BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier" You would select the above installation option only if you already have an OracleAS Middle Tier - and it would then install BPEL PM into the same ORACLE_HOME.
The below error message is telling you the same. You have one of two options:
1. install Oracle AS midtier first and then redo the above install of the BPEL PM
2. select the standalone option (not the midtier option)

we tried to download bpel process manager 11g but as per oracle it is under Oracle Fusion Middleware 11gR1 so we have downloaded the same also.....*
but the problem is agter installation we are not getting anuthing called oracle bpel process manager and also we are not able to run soa suite..........*
Can you please suggest how we can install the same or is there any other way so that we can run bpel process manager.*Hi,
Download SOA 11.1.1.2.0 from OTN.
1. Don't forget to download RCU (Repository Configuration Utility). It is an extractable zip folder. Extract it. Navigate to its bin folder. Invoke rcu.sh/rcu.bat. It will open RCU. Choose Create. Enter your db details. In the next screen, choose SOA Infrastructure schema. Provide a schema prefix. Default would be 'DEV'. Proceed with further steps.
2. After installing 11gR1, navigate to your $ORACLE_HOME/common/bin
Invoke config.sh/config.cmd based on your OS. This will open the configuration wizard.
Choose create domain option. Enter the domain name. Select the templates: SOA Suite and Enterprise Manager. In the JDBC Datasources screen, enter the SOA schema information, db details. Complete the wizard. No need to customize anything else. This will create a SOA Domain.
3. Run the setNMProps.sh/cmd from $MW_HOME/oracle_common/common/bin folder.
4. Navigate to $MW_HOME/wlserver_10.3/server/bin. Execute startNodeManager.sh/cmd. This will start the node manager.
5. Now navigate to your $DOMAIN_HOME. You will be able to find startWeblogic.cmd/sh file. Execute it. This will start your Admin Server.
6. Once the server started, login to WLS Admin Console (http://host:7001/console). Navigate to Servers. Click on Control tab. Select soa_server1. Start the server.
This will start the SOA server. To test your soa is up, access the url http://host:8001/soa-infra
There is no BPEL Console/ ESB Console / OWSM console in 11g. Everything is managed from your EM. EM url would be http://host:admin_server_port/em (http://host:7001/em) -
How to install Oracle BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier
hi,
i need to install BPEL process manager, so i download the following file from otn
1.soa_windows_x86_101310_disk1
2.soa_windows_x86_bpel_101310
here i read the document named b28980.pdf from bpel\doc\pc.1012 to install BPEL PM
so i start to complete the pre-installation task
1.installed Oracle database 10g
2.Run the Integration Repository Creation Assistant on the Database
3.Install Oracle Application Server 10g Release3 (10.1.3.1.0) and select either the J2EE Server installation type or the J2EE and Web Server installation type. selected J2EE and Web Server installation type
and installed according to the Oracle application server installation guide.
installed OracleAS in the path : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1
4.Install the current release of Oracle BPEL Process Manager for OracleAS Middle Tier
here they mention to select the J2EE and Web Server installation type because that type is selected in Oracle AS installed in Oracle Application Server
so i start to install the BPEL PM by selecting the setup.exe-->and shows the location source and destination
default destination is : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OraBPEL_1 selected next on the screen
the next screen is select installation type here there are two types named
1.BPEL process Manager for Developer (371MB)
2.BPEL process manager for Oracle AS Middle tier (107MB)
i selected 2.BPEL process manager for Oracle AS Middle tier (107MB) and click next
pop up window opens with title dependencies
error:
BPEL Process manager for oracle AS Middle tier will run on top of a supported Oracle Application Server 10.1.3.1.0 J2EE server and Web Server Or J2EE server instance. this location does not contain this instance. Please select new Oracle home that contains a supported instance.
so i changed the destination path to : D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\BIN then also i got the same error.
please any one mention the path for J2EE and Web Server instance for installing the BPEL PM for Oracle AS Middle Tier.
Thanks in Advance
Aswath ThanigaIf you choose the developer version you will be fine.
If you have installed J2EE and Web Server installation into D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1 then this is the location you install your BPEL PM into, not D:\product\10.1.3.1\OraBPEL_1 or D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1\BIN.
D:\product\10.1.3.1\OracleAS_1 is what we call the ORACLE_HOME, generally we create a new home for each install, but in this case there is a dependency on 10.1.3.1 OC4J container. So it needs to be installed into 10.1.3.1 oracle home.
The bin directory is just the executables for that home, its not the actual. home.
cheers

How to install Oracle imaging & process management in windows xp prof
Hi All
I am trying to install oracle Imaging & Process management in windows XP. Please let me know whether it is possible in windows XP or not... which I couldn't able to install in XP. when I saw the Install doc, it mentioned it is possible in windows server 2003. Installation guide mentioned that we have to setup 6 or 7 different server setups.
or
If any one have I/PM installation steps for windows server 2003 Please provide the steps.
Any input would be greatly appreciable.
regards
VijayVijay,
IPM is not certified to be installed on Windows XP (as for IPM services).
It is possible to install IPM on one server machine (or two, if you need Web). First, you have to decide, which services you have to install.
