Process that creates tablespaces

Hi,
I wondered, and guessing, it is the server process that creates (create, and format) tablespaces & datafiles, logfiles, standby-log-files, standby control-files? Am I correct?
I am trying to google it out for myself, but... :)
Thanks in advance.

What you copied from the Database Administrator Guide is correct. Unfortunately it is not relevant to the question posed by the OP.
FMON is used to manage the mapping between tablespace blocks and other database files to the actual device. For regular file systems and simple disks, the mapping is pretty simple and FMON is not required. When interfacing to EMC frames and the like, the mapping can be important and can be a critical tool in troubleshooting. This is discussed in the DBA Guide a few paragraphs before the part you copied.

The server process operating on behalf of dbca or sqlplus that is used to create the database will be responsible for initiating the creation of the log files, control files, alert log, data files and everything else. However, the server process will probably not be the one to create the files. Instead, it will flag requirements and other processes will likely be the ones to carry out the operations in response to the request. This can be checked on Linux/Unix with tools like truss.
For example, log file management (switch into & create if missing), archive log file management and creation, etc. will occur even if there is no user attached and therefore no server process.
Most of the database file (dbfile) management (such as creating a new datafile for a tablespace) is initiated by the server process attached to the client used by a DBA. However, auto-extending a datafile does not require a DBA to be connected, although it is always(1) in response to an action requested by a client and therefore the clients server process.
Control file and data file header management are delegated to other processes, such as checkpoint process.
((1) never say never, never say always .... there can be exceptions.)
I would be interested in knowing why you care about this level of detail. It is not relevant to any tuning or DBA activity that I can foresee at this time but you may have other insight.

  • Creating Form Manually w/Process that Contains Multiple Insert Statements

    Hello,
I've been trying to create a form manually by following the instructions in the Users Manual under "Creating Form Manually - Creating a Process that Contains One or More Insert Statements." I have not had much luck and I think that it is because I'm not sure what is ment when said:
"Create a conditional process of type PL/SQL that executes when the user clicks the button."
Here is the PL/SQL that I used:
    BEGIN
    UPDATE T
    SET first_name = :P1_FIRST_NAME,
    last_name = :P1_LAST_NAME
    WHERE ID = :P1_ID;
    END;
I am not sure where to create this process, however. I've tried several areas (i.e. Processes under Page Processing, Processes under Page Rendering, Under Conditions on the Button, etc.) but will get errors or no effect at all.
Please let me know what i am doing wrong. If you could provide me with a simple example of how to create a form manually, that would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hello Scott,
I followed your instructions and the error that I get is that nothing happens at all. I submit the page and nothing gets updated, deleted or added.
I have the table, report, processes and form in place. Here are the settings:
Process Point: is "on-submit, after computations...(in the Page Processing Section)
    Type: PL/SQL anonymous block
    Source: BEGIN
    INSERT INTO T ( first_name, last_name )
    VALUES (:P1_FIRST_NAME, :P1_LAST_NAME);
    END;
Conditional Processing: When Button Pressed (Create (ADD))
    For the Button:
    Database Action: SQL Insert action
    URL Redirect: No Target
Should I have any special settings on the Page Item? (i.e. under Default: Default Value Type: PL/SQL Expression) or maybe under Conditions: Condition Type - PL/SQL?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks

  • Speed up process to create web forms that put info into database

    Hi All
Basically what Im trying to ask is that I have been developing jsp pages with some javabeans to insert information into databases and then to insert/retreive this information. I have been doing this by hand and it takes time even though I have a library of beans that I have built overtime. My management wants me to deploy new forms within 30 minutes.
    Current method of creating forms
    ==========================
1 - I make the form in dreamweaver
2- Copy and paste the code into my IDE jpadpro
3- Put in the bean connection in the jsp page and create new insert statement
4 - Create the result page
    5- Ftp pages to server
I am looking to speed the process of creating new forms which connect to ms sql server (insert) information. I have already invested in crystal reports to make reports which i think has cut my development time by 10 foldes. I am looking for something similar to insert information into the databases.
If there is no such software then is there a java IDE where I can design web page forms visually (like dreamweaver/ microsoft infopath) and create the jdbc connections through wizards. I think microsofts visual studio does this, but i cant use this as i am working with j2ee with ms sql server database.
I am currently looking into eclipse with the myeclipse plugin to see if it will speed things up. Any suggestions from anyone most welcomed.
Also will JSF be better to use?
    Regards
    Antek

Cutting down development times of forms applications is probably why they created Formular (http://formular.redeye.no/ ).
In my company, we use Formular to define the data we wish to collect. We do this in XML. The XML is pretty straight forward to grasp. Formular uses this XML to generate the actual HTML form so you do not need to build several JSPs for each form you display. Formular handles multiple pages gracefully.
After building a few forms this way, you quickly learn ways to save time by establishing a library of commonly used components such as data field validators.
These are components you always end up using in many forms (such as data formating, value range checks, required checks, etc.).
The Formular package allows you to reuse those.
The other fine feature is the availability of data sources. These are classes that Formular uses to populate your forms (or example generate select lists, or radio buttons from data you have in a database or even a file).
Finally, you might be lucky to be in a position to create a single form processing model for your applications. What we have is a generic form processing class that receives data collected by Formular, and use the configuration data from the XML to determine how that data will be handled. You could for instance have a class that you call/invoke dynamically depending on how the form is configured.
I use the XML file custom parameters for this (these params and their values are invisible to the user but accessible by the generic form handler that comes with the package).
You might use these to specify the table you want that form to be posted into, and also maybe even specify exactly which fields.
For our usage, this package is of great value, and we found the licensing costs very attractive. A license is around 43 dollars per site if I remember well.
For the amount of work you put in, I'd recommend this software for you to evaluate.

  • Createtablespace.sql is creating tablespaces in wrong sid

    Hi,
We are in the process of performing system copy of EHP4 for TDMS shell creation using standard system copy process as suggested by sap.
During export while SAPInst asked for Import Migration Directory we provided the export dump of target system ( modified as per TDMS shell creation)
During system copy we are getting the error during create table space phase. SAPinst is creating the tablespace with source system SID. .i.e instead of T02 it is taking P02.
    create tablespace P02#USER1D
in nodegroup SAPNODEGRP_T02 pagesize 16k  extentsize 8 prefetchsize automatic
      no file system caching
Because of that we are getting following error during import phase.
    ERROR      2009-08-10 07:24:33.154 [iaxxinscbk.cpp:260]
MDB-01999  Error occured, first error is: <SQL0204N  "P02#DDICD" is an undefined name.  SQLSTATE=42704>
    Please suggest.

    Hi,
I have recently expierienced a very simialr sort of error doing a EHP5 upgrade.
(it's similar because I did a standard system copy (export/import) and got the same error )
It's not realy a solution but guidance:
If you check this table DDSTORAGE and search for the incorrect sid:
eg (assuming P02 is the incorrect SID):
select * from <your_schema>.ddstorage where text like '%P02%
you'll probrably find the erronous entries.
Since this a rare occurance, the best advice would be to open a message to SAP.
They would probrably want to remotely connected to the system and have a look.
I don't think there is a gerneral fix and each occurance would have to be handle at an individual level.
Since I use DB2 I used this component when creating my OSS:
    BC-DB-DB6-UPG
I know this thread is old but
I've answered here as hopefully it may benifit anyone else that finds this thread.
    Kind Regards,
    chris

You state you have dropped the tablespace (which does not necessarily automatically drop the datafiles in version 9i); and
You state you are trying to locate the tablespace's datafiles in a new file system where no files should exist.
    Please post response to
    ls -ld /server47/Bankareas/CFC/oracledatafiles
    ls -l /server47/Bankareas/CFC/oracledatafiles/globusdataxml01.dbf

  • Could not find application that created this file error in Acrobat

What is going on? I have an InDesign file that I want to convert by opening Acrobat and then converting to PDF. I am getting the error "Could not find application that created this file. [file name] Please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer."
I most often use this functionality when I have multiple files of different origins and need to combine them into one document. Now I'm reading the forums and some are saying this functionality is no longer supported by Acrobat. Pardon my language, but WTF?!?! This is functionality that is commonly used by me and I can only assume other users. Now you have two Adobe products that won't communicate? If so, then all the hoopla stating how great the Adobe suite is should be edited. I have never seen these products take such a step backward!
Sorry for the rant, but I find this to be ridiculous. What is the workaround, besides converting every document to PDF inside its own software and then combing the PDFs?

InDesign uses a different method of making PDF files when you use the File->Export option in InDesign (even with Acrobat installed, it uses an internal copy of the PDF Library engine). As such, the two applications do not communicate directly with each other.
Support for driving the PDF conversion process from within Acrobat has been removed from Acrobat X, beacuse with the new features in InDesign CS4+, Acrobat doesn't have access to the settings it needs to control things such as multimedia, spreads and transitions. ID CS5 divides PDFs into two concepts - "print" and "interactive", neither of which match the presets used by Distiller. Creating PDFs from InDesign files must therefore take place from within InDesign itself.

  • Record of the user name that created a payment proposal (F110)

    Hello,
I would appriciate your help with a question I have regarding the payment proposal process (F110).
I am trying to find where the system keeps a record of the user name that created the payment proposal.
I saw this field only in the table REGUA (Change of payment proposals: user and time),
but I didn't see it for regular payment proposals (not in REGUH and REGUP).
In general, My goal is to be able to check that the user who is creating the payment run is different from the user who created the payment proposal.
    Thank you in advance.

In F110, display the payment proposal log. Shift+F7.
in the heading line 'ob log overview for job'  you can see the job name.
    say  'F110-20110104-FR4NA -X'
if it is F110-20110104-FR4NA -X / 05170400, you have to take the part before the slash that is F110-20110104-FR4NA -X
Go to SM37, enter this in the job name. Enter * in the user id. Enter the date , on which payement run was done.
Then execute. YOu will see, who has run the proposal or payement run in the resulting screen.

  • Trouble creating a pdf converting Word doc ..."Could not find the application that created the file"

    Hello,
I am working with Acrobat Pro 8 and am trying to create a pdf by converting a word doc. When I try that, I keep getting an error message, " Could not find the application that created this file...please select a file created by an application that resides on your computer." I can always convert a word into pdf first and then insert it into the pdf project that I am working on, however I have multiple files and I really would like to bypass that long step.
I found another thread in this forum which talks about a simillar issue (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/429585).I tried the solution suggested there by Bill@vt regarding the print menu. I am not really sure if t have distiller installed, so I tried opening it in acrobat, but it failed. During the process, I got the follwing message "Check the Status column for a list of files that could not be printed".I do not have any clue how to check for AcroTray running in the background.
I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks!

If Distiller failed to open, it sounds like you need to do a repair of your Acrobat installation. Have not heard that one before!

  • How to make an action that creates a composite onto one image from a non specific source??

    Hi
I'm trying to create an action, But having some trouble. I have a fair knowledge of CS4 and actions but this one is tricky.
Basically i need to create a new document out of a folder full of images. These images need to have their opacity reduced to 40% and their blending mode changed to Colour burn. They then need to be copied onto the same canvas with a transparent background.
Most of this is fine. But i need to make the action that is not image specific. So not the one i used to record it. This is for a mid process that is going to go between various other programs before display, and the hole process needs to be automated. When i hit pay or go through file-automate-batch it uses the images that i recorded with.
I realise i havent explained this terribly well but any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sam

You may have to look into Scripting to achieve something like this.
You could ask in the Scriptimg Forum
    Photoshop Scripting
But maybe it would suffice to insert the Menu Item
File – Scripts – Load Files into Stack
into the Action and then iterate through the Layers with [ or ] and reset the opacities and Blend Modes – but as Actions would not be able to change the number of repetitions of the operation conditionally a custom Script would still seem preferable.

Your real problem is that PSAPUNDO does not exist. For an unknown reason you are using PSAPUNDO1. so, you must fix this:
    shutdown your DB.
rename tablespace PSAPUNDO1 to PSAPUNDO. this can be done with:
    brspace -c force -f tsalter -a rename -t PSAPUNDO1 -n PSAPUNDO
you will also need to change parameter undo_tablespace to PSAPUNDO
if using initSID.ora, change this manually. or else, do this:
    alter system set undo_tablespace=PSAPUNDO scope=both;
you might need to restart your database.
    good luck.

If you simply want to send the exact same message to everyone in your address book with emails ending in "@whatever.com", you can do the following:
Create an email with subject, message and attachments but no addresses
    Open Address Book, All Contacts
Search in Address Book for @whatever.com
Select the results and drag them into the To: or Bcc: field of the email. If Bcc: then put your email address in the To: field.
    Send the email
This will not personalize the emails (such as with "Dear firstname:" at the top of the message) but it will let you send an idential message to everyone who meets your criteria.

  • Create tablespace in Oracle 10g Express

    Hi,
I've been playing around over the last few days with Oracle 10g Express and I need to create my own tablespace and therefore create user associated with my custom table space.
I tried with the command create tablespace, but I am not successful with configuring the parameters such as the datafile location and such. I did go through the Oracle Concepts Guide which was very helpful, but I must be missing something.
Also assuming that my db scheme will be part of my application and therefore released to my client as script so they can re-create my database how would the table space integration work on their end.
I would I have to place my first line of the script to create the table space and ask them for database file location?
    Any advice will be appreciated.
    Thank you in advance.

Thank you.How about checking with the fine SQL Reference manual for the syntax of the CREATE TABLESPACE command?
Learning where to look things up in the documentation is time well spent investing in your career. To that end, you should drop everything else you are doing and do the following:
Go to tahiti.oracle.com. Drill down to your product and version.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what is available here. Take special note of the "books" and "search" tabs. Under the "books" tab you will find the complete documentation library.
Spend a few minutes just getting familiar with what kind of documentation is available there by simply browsing the titles under the "Books" tab.
Open the Reference Manual and spend a few minutes looking through the table of contents to get familiar with what kind of information is available there.
Do the same with the SQL Reference Manual.
Do the same with the Utilities manual.
You don't have to read the above in depth. They are reference manuals. Just get familiar with what is there to be referenced. Ninety percent of the questions asked on this forum can be answered in less than 5 minutes by simply searching one of the above manuals.
Then set yourself a plan to dig deeper.
    - Read a chapter a day from the Concepts Manual.
    - Take a look in your alert log. One of the first things listed at startup is the initialization parms with non-default values. Read up on each one of them in the Reference Manual.
    - Take a look at your listener.ora, tnsnames.ora, and sqlnet.ora files. Go to the Network Administrators manual and read up on everything you see in those files.
    - When you have finished reading the Concepts Manual, do it again.

IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfullyWhy i get those errors when importing? Seems like the main problem is that the export was done in Linux which have it's own directories like '/u01/app/oracle/oradat' and others but in my Windows OS those folders don't exist? The whole import fails because tablespaces couldn't be created, later Schemas couldn't be created and tables also. Can i get the import work somehow?
I runned the import as following:
    C:\Users\charlesr>imp userid=system/a FULL=Y FILE=exp_ddl.dmp log=imp.logMy Oracle 10 XE is installed into folder:
D:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0Maybe i should run the import command in drive D where my Oracle lives, not in drive C as i did?
And now when i tried to run the import on drive C, seems like my database user "system/a" is corrupted or password corrupted:
    C:\Users\charlesr>d:
    D:\>imp userid=system/a FULL=Y FILE=exp_ddl.dmp log=imp.log

ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon deniedUsername:I think i don't have on OS level rights to write to C-drive, that's why i got errors. But now i can't log in with system/a, why so?

You could use import option show=y to capture import run statements and find CREATE TABLESPACE statements. Keep in mind your target database already has undo, temp system, etc. tablespaces so you do not need to precreate them. Then rerun import.
