Process Thumbnail upon each adjustment

Initial speed performances of Aperture 2.0 were quite satisfactory. But now, almost each time I apply an adjustment I have a significant delay. It seems that _it is the thumbnail processing that slow down Aperture_.
Each time an adjustment I made is lagging, I see in between the viewer and the browser, +"Process Thumbnail"+. I never notice that before!
I always set the option "Maintain preview for project" off to avoid this kind of slow down while working. But now, *why Aperture is alway wasting time generating preview while I'm adjust an image?* What is this new behavior I haven't notice before in 1.5.6? Is there any preference that can be set to prevent this and generate thumbnail after adjustment is completed?

thanks to both of you. I know I'm running a low on computer spec for Aperture. that's why I'm very anxious to receive my the new MacBook Pro that's somewhere in the mail. meanwhile, I'm still on my G4.
thanks for confirming my though that preview and thumbnail generation aren't the same. but still... a few days ago, Aperture was far more responsive on adjustment than it is now. I though something was going wrong since I now see that it is always working on thumbnail while I'm trying to adjust an image.
for me, this situation is similar to what I've got in performances prior to deactivate the preview generation; i.e. losing ressources for generating something *that will be usefull only after I click out of the image I'm currently adjusting.*
in other words, I would really appreciate the possibility to turn off thumbnail generation during adjustement. let's say, the thumbnail can be regenerated to reflet my adjustments when I change image or simply, like preview, when I manually click update.
I understand that no thumbails = no way of seeing image. that's not my point; thumbnail are generated during importation. but there is not much value of having live thumbnail change upon each and every time I move a slider. that's a strange workflow for Aperture... at least, when you do not have all the CPU needed. this approach let me understand a little bit more why Aperture is so demanding on ressources.

Aperture creating new version of image for each adjustment applied!

To anyone out there who can sort this one out, I will be forever grateful!
Here's the problem. I'll be jamming away in Aperture, adjusting photos like a madman. After adjusting a random number of photos (it usually varies between 5-30 photos or so after starting Aperture each time), the adjustments panel will no longer update when I click on a new image (i.e. it holds the info from the last image I adjusted and will continue to apply new adjustments to that last image even if another image is highlighted). If I switch to the metadata panel and then back to adjustments it will refresh itself and recognize the currently selected image (although I have to do this for EACH image I want to adjust once it starts acting up like this). The BIG problem is that even if I get the adjustments panel to recognize the selected image at this point, for EACH adjustment I apply it makes a new version of the image. For example, if I first change the contrast, it will make Version 2 of the image and select it (which is what it's supposed to do for the first adjustment, because I have "create new versions when making adjustments" checked in my preferences), but if I then make another adjustment like changing the saturation, it makes Version 3 of the image (from the master, so that only the saturation adjustment is applied and not the contrast adjustment). As you can imagine, this utterly destroys my once incredibly efficient Aperture workflow and makes it pretty much impossible to use Aperture for adjustments unless I turn off "create new versions when making adjustments" in the preferences, at which point it does seem to work again (although I've only tried it on a few images, so not 100% sure it will work properly even then). If I restart Aperture (or my computer), it will work normally again for a few pictures and then will start acting up again with the same problem.
Originally I was running into this problem on my PowerBook G4, and so I figured it was just because Aperture didn't like my wussy G4 processor and was acting up when the load got too heavy (after all, the adjustments would work fine for up to 30 images or so). However I recently purchased a sexy iMac 24" 2.8 GHz and maxed out the RAM to 4GB, but I'm still getting the same darned problem with Aperture on my iMac. Yes, I'm using the same library of photos I was using on my PowerBook G4.
This problem has been plaguing me for about 3 months now (everything else in Aperture works fine so I'm still using it to import and organize my photos, I just haven't been able to make adjustments on large groups of pictures for a while), and I've searched and searched these forums countless times to see if anyone has run into similar problems, but I've not seen a single mention of it. I've also tried EVERYTHING mentioned for similar problems (rebuilding library, vacuuming database, erasing com.apple.aperture.plist preference file, repairing permissions, reinstalling Aperture, making burnt offerings to Steve Jobs), and NOTHING is working. ARRGH!!
For those who might have some words of wisdom to offer this delighted-***-miserably frustrated Aperture user, here are a few more details about my setup:
I have a library of about 37,000 photos, the vast majority of them being RAW .CRW files from a Canon 10D. The 25GB library file is stored on my internal hard drive, and all photos are referenced from an external LaCie 500GB FireWire 400 hard drive. I have a LOT of export plug-ins installed in Aperture, but no image adjustment plugins. I have generated previews turned off for all projects. I've had the same problem on both my PowerBook G4 and new iMac 24" 2.8 GHz. One other thing worth mentioning is that instead of upgrading from 2.1 (which was already giving me this problem) to 2.1.2, I downloaded the full version of 2.1.2 and installed it. I noticed that my 2.1 Aperture.app file was less than 100MB, whereas the 2.1.2 Aperture.app file is over 300MB. Don't know if that's normal or not.
The only other thing I can think of to try at this point is to load a new library into Aperture and import a large group of pictures and make adjustments to them to potentially see if my problem is being caused by Aperture or by the library. Will probably try that tomorrow.
I would appreciate any advice or feedback anyone can offer about this nasty little problem, as it's giving me a serious hormonal imbalance.

Thanks for the reply RB, but my current workflow depends on me creating new versions when I make adjustments. I suppose as a temporary solution I will probably have to either turn this preference off or just be willing to constantly restart Aperture. At least I finally found another thread with the same problem, so finally I don't feel completely alone in the far reaches of the Aperture universe. It appears this problem is closely related to the ubiquitous black viewer problem that seems to be plaguing far more users than my issue (although I've run into the black viewer problem a few times myself), as both problems force Aperture to output the following message to Console:
Main Thread Exception in Aperture: * -NSCFArray objectAtIndex:: index (1) beyond bounds (1)
It seems that both of these problems existed in Aperture 1 and 1.5 up until the 1.5.6 upgrade which seems to have fixed it, but then with Aperture 2 the problem seems to have returned. At least that's the gist of what I've been reading on a number of threads. Whatever the case, I hope Apple gets this sorted out in their next update!
As it appears there is no proper answer to this problem at the moment, I'm gonna go ahead and mark this thread answered (and since you were kind enough to at least take the time to reply RB, you can be credited with the answer... thanks!).

Can it be a moving thumbnail? I see where it can create index marks at auto intervals but no associated thumbnail.

Use a video thumbnail submenu for the first submenu, add the auto chapters, then use the chapter index feature:

Then make each submenu animate buttons. (Perhaps that last step can be done after the first submenu is added; not sure about that.)

what version of iPhto? Of the OS?
there is a thumbnial size slider in either the lower right hand or left hand corner of the iPhoto window - does sliding it resolve your issue?

After each adjustment ...

Lightroom 2.3, OS X 10.5.6, 4G ram
After each adjustment in the Develop module, all adjustments are reset and reapplied.
At least that's what it looks like. After an adjustment, it appears that the reset button has been pressed. "Loading" appears at the bottom of the screen. All adjustments appear to then have been applied.
This is annoying. Thought it might be a resource issue. But, I've got 2G memory free.
I apologize if this is a known bug. I looked and didn't find anything. If you're pissed that I didn't look hard enough, don't get your panties in a twist. I'm only looking for answers.
I don't remember ever seeing this on 2.2.

That would indeed be annoying, but it isn't normal behaviour for Lightroom. Have you tried deleting your preferences file? See the FAQ for its location on a Mac.

Aperture unexpected quit when processing thumbnails

Every few minutes, Aperture quits while processing thumbnails. And I don't mean previews, just thumbnails.
Any idea?
I have tried deleting all my preferences for Aperture, and creating new ones, and I even have tried so far as erasing the program and installing a new one.
But I am sitting here and watching it crash after it loads about 500 thumbnails, then crashes again.
Anyone having this issue?
I am on 10.4.10 and have all the latest pro-application updates.

It sounds like maybe you have a corrupt image in the Library. Try Importing small sets of images into new Projects so you can isolate the corrupt image. If this is the case, you'll be able to run fine after that image is deleted.
You might try with a New Library since the Image could be somewhere in your Library already.

Should we use only one process order for each CO-product?

Dear All,
We have process orders. One process order opens per day.
Now we need to use CO-products and calculate actual cost of goods manufactured for them.
Suppose we have 30 process orders. We have specified Apportionment Structure in Material Master.
Then when we create process order we define actual Apportionment Structure in setllement rule as well.
After we have setlled all process orders would Material Ledger/ Actual costing run consider this Apportionment Structures from all 30 process orders?
I heard opinion from Consultant from SAP that it will not work.
Has anyone heard anything?

But we use process orders, not CO-production orders.
We open process order each day because management wants to have information about KPI of each schift.
We have defined in material master apportionment structure, When we create process order we define apportionment structure in settlement rule as well.
When we settle process orders our cost distributes to finished good and CO-product according with this apportionment structure.
But when we run ckmlcp ML/actual costing doesn't distribute raw material's price differences and Semifinished good's price differences according with this apportionment structure.
What can we do here?

Can't edit imported files; iPhoto asks for file import upon each launch

Hi,
My hard drive recently went bad and I lost all photos (didn't back up...I've learned my lesson). An authorized repair shop replaced the drive and installed 10.5.2.
I just tried to import 150 new photos from my camera. After importing from the camera, iPhoto said all files were imported successfully. I was trying to create room on my memory card, so when asked if I wanted to delete the originals, I said yes. (I was planning on backing up the photos just as soon as I got them onto my drive).
I see them as thumbnails, etc., but I get the grey/black exclamation graphic if I try to edit. Fullscreen gets me a black screen, that's it. Each time I launch iPhoto, it says that it detects 150 pictures not imported. Would I like to import? I choose yes, but the same problem persists.
When I view each thumbnail, the reported sizes average about 2 mb, so it seems that the real photos are somewhere. I just don't know where. As a last resort, I guess I could try to do screen captures of the thumbnails, but that'll take forever, and I really want these originals back.

Are you running a Managed Library or a Referenced Library?
If you're running a Managed library, then it's the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
If you're running a Referenced Library, then you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing.
If you're running a managed library is sounds very like a damaged database file to me.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Need render process to run each time form is opened.

I need my SQL queries to run each time the form is opened. This is whether the form is opened by the original user, an approver in workspace, or when someone opens a form (possibly rejected) via an attachment in e-mail. It appears that the processes for "Render" seem only to run when the form is originally opened by the end user. Can anyone help in explaining how to get the form to run the render processes (and other processes) each time the form is opened, no matter how it is opened?

I just started getting a new window opening upon each fresh opening of Firefox even though I closed it on the last shutdown and each time the website that opens is different.

I usually leave several tabs and 1-3 windows open on shut down of Firefox so that I can have access to those sites when I restart Firefox. Recently I started getting an extra window opening when I start up with a website opening that I've never been to or am aware of. Each time I close that window out but it returns the next time with a different website usually trying to sell me something. Please help me get rid of this annoying encroachment.

Batch processing prompting user each time

Hi, we have a batch job that adds a watermark and then adds a footer. The watermark and footer are defined in the sequence via the Edit option in the "Select commands..." window.
Run common on: select folder
Select output location: specific folder.
When we run the sequence, it opens the first file in the folder and then prompts the user for the same watermark or footer settings already defined earlier. It evens defaults to the setting we entered originally. So the user clicks OK, gets prompted again, hits OK, etc....
We can find no reason for this behavior. Any suggetions? Thanks.

I have no problem with version 8.1.1 Professional. After creating the Batch Process, I only need to highlight the process, click "Run Sequence", and click "OK".
But I do not have the selected input and output folders being the same and do not have the "Do not overwite orginial file" output option selected.

IPhoto shows blank squares or the same thumbnail for each photo.

I am on iPhoto 11, 9.2.1 and work on Macbook Pro OS X 10.6.8. My iPhoto has had a complete melt down. When you open it, it either shows blank squares where the photos are or it picks the last photo you look at at displays this for every single photo. If you click to enlarge the photo it will display the correct photo. When I close it everytime it shows that it is updating the library. I have tried shutting down my Mac hoping that it would reset itself. I have checked that it is up t date.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. It can take 3 or 4 goes for this to work

Crash upon slider adjust.

I'm helping someone setup after effects over TeamViewer and whenever he adjusts one of the slider values it crashes.
"Error in AE_OpenGL"
Example:
New composition
New text layer
Transform text layer opacity
Add keyframe
Turn opacity down from 100%
"Error in AE_OpenGL"
I tried replacing his AE_OpenGL file with mine, but that didn't work.
Any help would be much appreciated.

As noted by Andrew - forego OpenGL entirely. It would seem that the graphics card and its settings are simply not compliant. I'd also thing the remote maintenance has some negative influence in that it may disable some functions. The interesting question therefore would be: Does it work without these tools running?

I accidently dropped a clip on top of another one on the timeline and it disappeared. I need it back. How do I get it back?

Furthermore, it won't let me drop clips more than three rows down. What's that **** about? Where am I supposed to place them???
