Process variants ?

Hello,
I am question regarding process variants when we are trying to model a process chain. When you create a new process chain it asks you for enter a existing rpocess variant. What do we have do there.? Like do we have to create new variants or SAP pre assigned for any particular process say delete indices or data load....
Then when you try to add a process to the start process chain it again asks for process variant.?
I am just confused as to what do we have to do there and how is related to the processes that we want to do.?

After you have selected a process to be used in the process chain,the variant actually indicates the 'specific' and 'unique' details of the process currently inserted.
For example,once you have selected the data load option,it asks you to select the infopackage.The infopackage indicates the specifics for this 'data load' process.
Another example is attribute change run.You insert the steps for the data loads of the attr/hier of the various infoobjects.Then when u want to run the attr change run you drag and drop this 'change run' process.The variant of the process actually indicates for which infoobjects this change run is to be scheduled.
Convention usually is that each separate start process has its own unique start variant.
Often as a shortcut..when u select a cube/ODS from the left tab,it gives a list of all available processes on that cube/ODS..drop/build indexes..data load..create aggregates..compression..delete previous requests..etc..The system will create the variants for you here,easing the job.

I am not able to find that in sm62.
Let me give clear picture.I updated the master process chain by putting wait process in between the infopackage and attribute change run.This wait process worked well in test system,but its giving an error in the production system when i try to activate and schedule the chain.So i am not able to schedule the chain.

What is a process variant? i try to add Infocube compression to the fi process chain. To accomplish this task, i have to create process variant. please tell me the step by step process how to create process variant and successfully add the compression to the process chain. The process variant is the name of the process Within the process chain context, it displays the configuration of a process of a particular type set at the time of definition. A variant is only consistently defined together with the process type. A process can have various variants. With the load process for example, the name of the InfoPackage is the name of the process variant.
The user defines the process variant at the time when the process is scheduled. With some process types, the variants are determined internally and are stored as GUIDs.

You can create process chains directly in Production. Most of the times system allows(depends on system settings). But this is not a proper way of working. Create in Development and transport it to Production.

Check the log files in /Platformservices/workbench/workspace/logs folder. You will be able to find out the error

Repeat Delta process was success in InfoCube and request is in green status while in process chain process variant still red until repeat process variant 2 to 3 times then only process variant turn into green at same time my process chain subsequence process not triggered please guide me

For the subsequnt process to finish U can run a FM: RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH
RSPC_PROCESS_FINISH is a Function Module...........U hav to copy the detals from the table RSPCPROCESSLOG.........

How to create process variant for delete index in a process chain

Respected all
I am creating a process chain, but unable to create process variant for the delete index. kindly tell me the
step by step proceure for creating the variant for delete index. also if we use variant which is previously prepared then will it be safe? will it affect the other running process chian.

Hi,
Please do not use an already created variant for index deletion. It might delete indices of some other cube.
You can follow the following steps -
1. Open the chain in Edit mode and click on "Process Types" button
2. On the Left hand side you will have various process types. Choose "Data Target Administration" and expand it.
3. Choose the first process "Delete Index" (it will be marked with a trash bin sign) and drag it to your chain
4. It will ask you create a variant. Press the create Button
5. In new window enter the Process Variant technical name and description
6. Then in new window choose Object Type = Cube through dropdown and Object name via browsing. After choosing the cube name click on "Transfer Selections"
7. Save and return to your chain
8. It will automatically generate a create index step also after delete index.
9. You need to break the link between create and delete step and insert infopackage in between to get the following steps - delete index --> load cube --> create index.

How to delete process variant

Hi.
In process chain maintenance I have several process variants which
are used nowhere.
I can't remove them because when I am trying to do that by pressing
Delete button, no action is performed.
Is there another transaction where I can remove process variants
or what may be possible reason of strange behaviour of Delete button
in the RSPC transaction?

The ways :
1.You can find Delete Feature in the Variant Itself. Open a variant - Delete
2.In the process do F4 and get the variant into the chain - delete now.
3.when you edit the process chain, right click on the process and select maintain variant. On the next screen you have a delete button.

Process Variant does not exist in version A:

Good day
I have changed an existing process chain by removing an InfoPackage that had no link to any other process but the 'start'. When I 'test' the chain the message: "Process Variant AND .... does not exist in version A" is displayed. I have not even touched the 'AND' process.
As a result the chain does not want to activate.
What am I missing here?

Thanks for your quick response. Sorry, I did not give you all the information. The 'AND' process was still connected between two Ioad processes (One IP loads Mdata from a flat file, then the AND process, then the second IP load from CRM (0BPARTNER)) BUT there were two AND's with the same name. I think I removed the process of the one AND at one stage, but the second remained (Copy of the same AND).
I have removed the AND process in totality and created a new one and it is activating now.

How to use the 'Decision between multiple alternatives' Process variant

Can anyone tell me how to use the 'Decision between multiple alternatives' Process variant in BI 7 Process chains ?
The requuirement is that I have a DSO eg DSO 1 from which i have to load DSO 2 and DSO 3 . Now if the number of Records in DSO 1 are < 100 i will load DSO 2 from DSO 1 else i will load DSO 3 from DSO 1 .
So in the PC i have used a 'ABAP Program' variant (which counts the number of rows in DSO 1) after loading DSO 1 and after this 'ABAP Program' Variant , i have used the 'Decision between multiple alternatives' Process variant. Problem is it is giving me only some some system fields in the formula , like sy-datum or sy-timlo , which are of no use here .
It would be great if i can receive some help here .

in RSPC you create a ABAP processing type "ending with specific values".
We use true or false for things as you specify.
your abap program should return a true or a false to indicate which of the situations is applicable.

Transport Request Ended with Process variant error

Hi,
One transport request related to process chains failed with the follwoing error.
Process variant CHAIN SCOMMONMD does not exist in version A.
Process variants are not avaialble with version A in target system.
Anyone suggest me how to mainatain process variants to resolve this error.

I want to put fiscal month as a condition in the formula for Decision making Process variant in a Process Chain.
It seems it only allows System Date.

Any help on why not seeing all these "0TCT" process variants in RSOR?

I am following some instructions on installing BW Statistics for BI7, but I am stuck at a point:
1.
In RSOR, Object Types, Process Chain, I am supposed to select all Process Variants that begin with 0TCT
The only one I found is 0TCT_MD_C_FULL_P01 Content Master Data
what could be wrong? Am I at the right location?
2.
Later I tried, RSOR, Object Types, Process Variants, looking for all Process Variants that begin with 0TCT
Here this is what I found:
0TCT_C01_AGGRE_INIT_LOAD
0TCT_C21_AGGRE_INIT_LOAD
0TCT_C22_AGGRE_DELTA_LOAD
0TCT_C22_AGGRE_INIT_LOAD
0TCT_C23_AGGRE_INIT_LOAD
But in the instruction, there is a long list of these 0TCT process variants.
what could be wrong? Am I doing something wrong?
3. What is the best way to collect all those process variants with 0TCT?
I was looking for a way to search for all 0TCT for selection, any hints?
