Processing dimension fails ... the cube already exists.

Hi Gurus,
I'm getting a rather strange error ... when I attempt to process a dimension (any dimension included in a specific application) I get the following error straight after the "Create Dimension" step:
"The cube with the name of '<appname>' already exists in the <appsetname>' database. Server: The operation has been cancelled."
My System - 2 Servers:
Database: Win 2008 R2 64bit, SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit (DS & AS)
Application: Win 2003 R2 64bit, SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise 64 bit (RS & IS), BPC 7.5 SP6 patch1
BPC is installed to a named instance on the SQL/AS server & nothing else has access to that instance.
I can modify the application fine ... all the options are OK,
I can do a Light or an Incremental optimize, all options are OK.
a Full Optimize fails with the same error even if no options are selected, straight after the "Clean up fact data" step.
I have checked the following:
1.) ALL members in the FACT tables are valid base level members.
2.) No Dimensional formulas exist
3.) Default Logic is blank (everything commented out).
I have backed-up up the applicationset & restored it to my dev server and there it works perfectly ... (dev is Signle server Win 2003 32 bit)
I deleted the applicationset on production & restored it from a 2 day-old backup (which processed perfectly just before it was backed up), and it ALSO failed to process ... same message.
Any ideas?

I've resolved the problem ... but still don't know WHY it happened & how to prevent it happening again ... so PLEASE, gurus ... help me out.... Why did the problem occur, Why did the steps below help, and How can I prevent the problem reoccurring.
The steps to resolve the problem:
1.) Back up the AppSet
2.) Delete the AppSet
3.) Shut down SQL Database Services & SQL Analysis Services
4.) Delete any files & folders in the Database Services & Analysis Services Data  & Log directories that contain the AppSet name as part of the file name (There should be none if the AppSet was cleanly deleted ... There weren't any in mine, but I add this because it was a suggestion off a MS site.)
5.) Restart  SQL Database Services & SQL Analysis Services
6.) Restore the Appset
7.) ... Do a Modify on the problem Application & Then do a Full Optimize with all options selected.

    Now I want to create it again but I get this error even though I've deleted all websites, hosting plans, cloud service, etc from my Azure account.
    Any idea on how to fix this?

    At this point, I don't know how it happened, but we'll need to dig deeper. I believe there is a sequence that can cause problems if you create a site via Current portal and delete it via Preview, but I'm not sure.
    BTW, it seems you have 2 other sites that may be in the same situation (deleted in a way that you couldn't recreated them). They're 'shortl...dev' and 't..d' (not giving full name to avoid squatters!). Do you think you'll want to recreate them later? If
    so, we can do the same maneuver to get back to a good state.

  • HFM deployment issue on EPMA - The application already exists

    The first time I deploy the HFM application everything works fine until I try to redeploy after deleting the application. I have tried registering the application to SS and then try deleting it from there but that does not work. Here is my deployment abort details:

    Got around this issue by creating a classic application over the epma app, provision admin then delete it from consolidation admin.
    Unfortunately it seems that the epma application should never have been registered like a classic app. Always perform 'deploy' and never 'register' since it get stuck in SQL data tables. Unless you are a DBA I would not suggest monkeying with the tables to begin with.

  • Why does appimp fail with "id already exists?"

    After upgrading to a recent release of Portal on 8i, we have to use the appexp utility to export Portal objects. We exported an entire application and then dropped it. When we try to run appimp to put it back we get errors that objects will fail because "ID already exists". We found note 168309.1 on Metalink but it didn't give us a fix. Has anybody else encountered this and maybe found a solution?

    This may be happenning due to some residual data in the wwv_modules$ table pertaining to the application you want to export. Delete the residual data and the try re-importing.

    Make sure you donot have any data in cube. If you have some data in cube, then you will not be able to see Delete option.
    Right click on the cube-->Delete data.
    Then double click on the cube>Goto Edit mode> select the IO under that Dimension> right click> now you will be able to see the Delete option (provided you have deleted all the date from Cube)
    Then right click on Dimension-->Delete

  • PSE 9 and 5 will not import - says the file already exists in the catalog !

    I've already wasted 2 days looking for answers to this. When someone buys this program, at least half of the price is paying for the database in the Organizer - yet even John Ellis himself, who seems to know more than anyone about it, has gone to Lightroom. This is bad coding!!!
    Upgraded from 5 to 9. If you read my previous posts, this took 2 days too, and phone help from a tech, because it would not install in my XP computer. It did upgrade the Organizer from 5, although many of the symbols are unusable and don't work to help me identify my tags. However, now I see that neither 5 nor 9 is able to look at a file and display thumbnails that are in it.
    I move files around a lot for my business. Any half-way good database should be able to find the missing files, and also add any new images. Say I have 10 images in file A, then add 2 more to make 12. It can't see the added images! Says can't import, the file already exists in the catalog.
    I tried: updating thumbnails, recover, repair, in both 5 and 9 - nothing works. to import the images that I can SEE in these folders! I read here  that it will not import files if the same name is somewhere else. That alone is a problem.  But I think it's more than that: even if the file used to be in another folder, folder B, it won't recognize that it's in folder A now!
    Since PSE9 uses sql db, shouldn't that be better than 5 and be able to do simple tasks like this?
    Any advice or similar experiences eagerly welcomed.

    Do you mean the first little section that says photos may not be displaying? Yes, those just reveal hidden photos and are very basic. I did them.
    I guess we disagree about databases and what they are designed to do, or maybe I didn't explain this well.
    I did not move the images outside of the catalog: I move them to various folders, all already imported WITHIN the catalog, as I send them to various editors. (these are all drawings, not photos, and I do this professionally, so it needs to work).
    Folder A and Folder B and Folder C have already been imported into the catalog. So if I move 2 images from folder B into folder A, the Organizer is simply lost, says image already exists, and everything is totally screwed up, as the image is no longer in folder B, and it can't find it in folder A!!! The problem is, unless I memorize the image name, say Image 9, I can't tell it to reconnect, as there is no longer an image in front of me! So there are 2 images, without names, now nowhere to be found. Inefficient, to say the least.
    I've never tried Lightroom or Filemaker, but I cannot believe that they would lose data like this. I think it's the Folder coding that's not working in PSE, and I wanted this to work so badly!!!!!
    I am willing to do it the PSE way, since you now have captions, keywords, etc, and it is a very powerful database, when it works. I understand that one is supposed to move images within the Organizer, obviously. But now many images are disconnected. I could start all over importing, but is there any way to do that without losing tags and categories?

    I'm on devsuite 10g. I'm using webutil to download files from DB using webutil function db_to_client.
    What I need is to check if the file already exists in the client directory and if yes to display a message to ask the user if he wants to overwrite or no. How can I make this???

  • Basis for creating the dimension for the cube

    Dear All,
    I have one basic query.
    We can build the ODS and pull data from source system to BW system. But now if i am suppose to build the Cube for my reporting then how do i make decision to build dimension for the cube?
    I mean what are the parameters which we need to consider before we build the dimension for the cube and what type of objects will be there in each dimension??

    Hi,
    There is as no thmb rule for it. Generally we try to balance the dimension when we create them. For example, It is not advisable to include Material and Vendor in a single dimension.(otherwise it will lead to dimension explosion...large no. of records in a single dimension.)
    The idea of dimension tables is to group associated characteristics to reduce the number of fields in the fact table and to reduce redundancies in storing frequent combinations of
    characteristics values in a table. Examples of characteristics typically grouped into one dimension include Customer, Customer Group, and Zip Code grouped into a Customer
    dimension, and Material, Material Group, Color grouped into a Material dimension.
    A special case of a dimension is the line-item dimension, which is used for characteristics with a very high cardinality. Atypical example is the document number in a lineitem-
    level InfoCube.

    I am using VB .NET 2003 and Crystal Report XI.
    The report has two sorting fields and I want to change the sorting order through programming.  It has been working well until my computer died.  After I got a new computer and set up everything, restored the source code from Source Safe, now everytime I try to change the sorting I get this error
    An unhandled exception of type 'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred in crystaldecisions.crystalreports.engine.dll
    Additional information: The sorting already exists
    Here is the code causing this error:
    obj1.DataDefinition.SortFields.Item(0).Field = FieldDef 
    Where obj1 is a ReportDocument.
    Does anyone know what is going on?

  • Adjusting dimensions in the cube

    One of our cubes have more than 40 million records. But the reports on it are running slow. so i checked the fact dimension ratios, then they are not efficient. So, I need to adjust the dimensions in such a way that they are efficient. In order to do that i have to delete and load the data again which is very huge...
      Is there any way that without deleting the data can i adjust the dimensions in the cube? Please let me know.

    How do you say that? Did you try to do some checks in RSRT. May be some indexing or aggregates might help.Tru to use reporting agent.  If not, try this in your dev syste or sandbox.
    1. Send the data to another cube ( may be you have to make a new cube as copy of the old cube).
    2. Model another cube the way you wish to remodel the cube.
    3. Create update rules and schedule the package.
    4. Take care of things like partioning, cache, use of multi provider, etc.
    5.  Perform stress and performance test.
    6.  Copy all the queries fro the old cube to this cube.
    7.  Collect all the objects and transport.
    If you are in 7.0, then you have some options. But in 3.5 it is bit hard.

    When I try to dynamically sort Crystal Report in ASP.NET application, I'm getting error "The sorting already exists" if I sort by the fields that had been used before.
    I've found an article in the KB - 1218210 - stating that this was a bug in CR 10. But I'm using CR 2008. How to get rid of this error? Is there a way to clear previous sort?

    If you can't access the App Store from the Apple menu, Dock, or Applications folder installing the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo will reinstall the App Store for you.
    It's ok to do this even you are already running v10.6.8.

    After loading data with the following command...
    import database $5.$6 data
    from load_buffer with buffer_id 1
    add values create slice;
    I am attempting to generate aggregated views using the following command...
    execute aggregate process
    on database $app_name.$db_name
    stopping when total_size exceeds 1.5
    enable alternate_rollups;
    This command fails if I already have a set of views on the database. I was hoping that this command would be able to add to the existing set of aggregated views realizing that there were no views set up for the new slice that was just generated.
    Is there a way (with MAXL) to build aggregated views on a database that only creates views for a new slice without going through the process of defining my own views?

    The views are automatically updated when you create the new slice, no further processing is required.
    From the DBAG:
    You can incrementally commit the data load buffer to an aggregate storage database to create a slice. After loading the new slice into the database, Essbase creates all necessary views on the slice (such as aggregate views) before the new data is visible to queries.

    Previously I tried to migrate it to another Server of the same pool, the migration Job was successful, the VM resulted running, but actually it was cycling rebooting itself every minutes, after a few steps of the booting process. So I killed it (stopped it) and migrate it back (while in a stopping state) to the original server. When I start it on the original Server, I get the error above.
    Please note that "xm list" on the Server doesn't show that this VM 0004fb0000060000b17c866636533d63 is running, nor that any VM with ID 199 is running.

    I don't think that advsiing to change the UUID inside the vm.cfg file is too beneficial. It might solve the immediate problem, but it won't make the "ghost" dom go away, which will need a OVMS boot to get rid off.
    Further more it seems like Oracle has fixed this issue and will likely roll the patch out in an upcoming update to xen. Users who have OVM under CSI can request a patch mentioning this BUG: 20687187
    I just received that patch and I will try that out tonight.
