Processing images as 300 dpi jpegs, comes out at 72 dpi.

I've seen two other posts with the same problem with no answer, so I thought I try as well. I am using Ap 2.1. I've processed the images in both the preset jpeg original size with the edit to 300 dpi. I've also made a custom preset with 300 dpi jpegs. Both times the images open in PS at 72 dpi. I processed them as tiffs at 300 dpi and they open in PS at 300 dpi just fine.
I've tripled checked the file-export-versions-JPEG original size-edit-300dpi.
any ideas what's up?

J,
I am repeating a post I made in another topic about this issue -- I would appreciate your thoughts:
I conducted a test that may or may not tell us something, but: I had a project with an imported photo scanned at 600 dpi and saved as a .psd at the time of the scan, before importing into Aperture. If I export that photo as a .psd, then PS will open it with a dpi of 72, but GC will open it with a dpi of 600. However, if I export that photo as a .tif, then both PS and GC open and report it to be 72 dpi?
I am not sure, but I think this is an indictment of Aperture?
Please tell me about the possible impact at any printers you use, since if the print size is specified, and not pixels have been lost, the image will print as you intend? I have some reports this has been seen with iPhoto, but ultimately not an issue, but I have not research with any printers.

  • How do I ensure my book's images are 300 dpi?

    Hey everyone,
I need to submit a book I wrote using Pages to the printer in 300 dpi.  I used photoshop to adjust the resolution of the photos to ensure that they are 300 dpi. Unfortunetly when I submit the PDF at "best" quality I still get an error saying that some of my photos are low resolution.  I am trying to figure out what is going wrong.
I did notice that the photos in question seem to all have a picture frame.  Could that have something to do with it?  Or is there something else I am missing?
    Thanks in advance,
    Kevin

The actual picture frame will be rendered at 72dpi by the ColorSync filters when generating the pdf.
Steer clear of shadows, reflections, transparency of bitmaps and transparency of vector objects overlapping bitmaps, the fancy frames and 3D charts. They are all rendered at 72dpi by default in OSX.
Pages is not a professional DTP tool. Even though it might look like one with some of the features, Apple has failed to implement nearly every technical requisite to make high quality output possible. The defaults for output are set abismally low and there are no tools to permit consistent, reliable output.
Apple's huge profits come almost entirely from people who can barely manage the basics of day to day computing. That they have not entirely abandoned professional users has more to do with sentiment and a legacy of support than any current corporate business plan.
Don't expect Apple to do anything to rectify the problems. This has nothing to do with iPhones and iPads which are Apple's present and future.

  • When i transfer an photoshop image in Indesign, this one come out in very bad quality and pixelise even once print

    Hello,
I have an issu, every image i bring or change trough Photoshop CS6 and transfer to Indesign CS6 or Illustrator CS6 comes out in very bad quality and very pixelated whyle printed.
The original image in photoshop is 29x32 cm with 300 ppp.
When i transfer in Indesign, i have to reduce the site via the adjustment button and it comes in terrible quality.
It never happen before, its just recently, and i didn't change my way to save or the properties of my Photoshop, so if someone can help me to resolve this problem, i will be glad.
    Regards,
    Marie

Before I should save the image as a PSD (without Clipping Mask and dont flatten the image). the print would come out different colours...not the same.
Are you saying the printer can't get a .PSD to output, or a PSD's color is unpredictable? Sounds like your printer can print .PSDs, but you  have a color management problem. By different colors do you mean that the printed CMYK color values are different than what was in the placed PSD? If that's the case it may be that the PSD had a profile that conflicted with the InDesign document profile and you are getting unexpected color conversions somewhere in the workflow.

  • 72 dpi and 300 dpi

Is it the same image quality if I were to design an image in photoshop CS3 at 72 dpi and then change the size to 300 dpi for printing, as designing the image at 300 dpi right away?
If not, does anyone know the percentage I can set my workspace so that it would represent the original size?
I am designing a postcard at 6x4 and when its 300 dpi it is obviously huge on my screen and I would like to see it as the original size so that I can have an idea of how it looks.

First of all on the screen it is pixels (ppi) not dpi.
Having got this out of the way, a quick way to see print size it to select the Zoom tool and pick the appropriate button in the Options bar at the top.
For some basic information on resolution and printing go to www.scantips.com and browse through the articles. (It's not all bout scanning!)
..and of course there is the excellent article at http://www.peachpit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=1332854

  • 72 dpi versus 300 dpi???

I've always been a bit confused about photos and dpi. I'm working with a Canon G10 (RAW), am not quite sure what the dpi is (my Photoshop recently corrupted itself and I have to yet to solve the problem, or find the original disks). But I'm pretty sure it's NOT 300 dpi. (I'm wondering if there is some other app I might have that will give me the dpi? - My 'GraphicConverter doesn't seem to like the Canon RAW files).
My experience in the past - using stills drawn from SD or HD video - was that if I bumped the image to 300 dpi in Photoshop I got a much better final print (than if I left it in 72 dpi).
I want to publish some photo books through the Aperture\Apple setup, but would like to get the best quality possible in the final output -- would like to know if I should alter the dpi before completing the book in Aperture. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Ben,
You might want to read the discussion at:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=9868789&#9868789
Now having presented all that, when you then proceed to do a book, then you are needing to consider the print size, and maintaining an adequate PPI to get good reproduction. But, even though I have not done a book, if your master images are the type from modern, high resolution cameras, then Aperture will fit the images into the book, and maintain the pixel dimension and ppi necessary for that.
For stills from a video, you should export one as JPEG at original size, and then with Graphic Converter check what the resolution is when, without resampling, the image size is changed to approximate what will be on the page in the book.

  • Images with high dpi

    Hi,
I have an aplication that works like a image bank.
It´s displaying images with 72 dpi perfectly, but do not show images with 300 dpi.
There is a limitation in image field type? Can it be adjusted?
The image is being loaded with read_image_file.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Image quality cannot be greater than what your screen can do. At this very moment, I'm not sure that any screen is capable of displaying 300 dpi images.

  • When printing objects with lowered opacity prints come out pink

At the office here we have a SHARP MX-5112N PCL6. We use Adobe Indesign CS6 for designing and printing our marketing material. A problem I have encountered is everytime I use a lowered opacity on a filled coloured object the print comes out a pink/magenta colour no matter what the colour is on the document.
I have attached two images to show what the print should come out like (first image) and what it does come out like (second image) on the SHARP MX-5112N PCL6.
I have tried various printer colour settings but nothing seems to correct this.
If anyone has a solution for this please leave a comment below. This only happens when using tints/opacity adjustments so its definately a software issue.
    Many thanks,
    Nick

Have you got the latest print driver for your printer?
Have you downloaded a postscript driver for your printer? If you do - you can install the PS driver as a separate printer in your printing options and try print from that instead.

  • Why jpeg file exported from Aperture with 300 dpi's it opens with 72 dpi's on PS ( image size)? I've tried several combinations and all give different results. And I am confused on what is the best workflow for me.

    Ok.
    My workflow is
RAW > Aperture Library > export jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > one file on PS > edit > Save us jpeg. The I realised that files from PS were being save in a smaller size from the ones exported form Aperture. That is when I went o see <image size> on PS and files were with 72.
Since ten I've trying different things
    1. Aperture > export as PSD > open on PS > edit > Save us jpeg = small file (around 15 MB)
    2. Aperture > export as jpeg high resolution 300 dpi's > open on PS > CHANGE dpi's to 300 on <image size> edit > Save us jpeg = big file (Huge, actually)
What am I doing wrong? Would someone give me guidance and tell me what is the best workflow, considering I edit photos to deliver to my clients and I shall give them 300 dpi's.
    Thank you

  • I have a 5x7 invitation I made in illustrator. I need to export it to a friend for her to print but everytime I export to jpeg it comes out as a 8x10. How do I send a high quality 5x7 image to someone?

I have a 5x7 invitation I made in illustrator. I need to export a high quality image it to a friend for her to print but everytime I export to jpeg it comes out way bigger than a 5x7. How do I send a specific size to someone? Do i need to use photoshop? Please help. Thanks!!

It sounds as if the Artboard is 8 x 10. It should fit the Artwork (at 5 x 7).

  • Why does exporting to jpeg or png come out blurry in Illustrator CC?

    Hello,
I am dying to export a poster ( size 27 x 41 in) from Illustrator CC into a jpeg. The image comes out blurry and text is fuzzy and not legible.
300 dpi, anti-aliasing optimized. Why does this happen?
The pngs won't even save, it takes hours and shuts down?
How can I export this crisp and clear in a format that client can use to print it form Staples or other center?
    Kind,

    Hi There
I am experiencing the same issue. The jpg / png files which are exported from Illustrator CC turns out bad... and I did not want huge files (example 72dpi for web images) Can @Adobe @AdobeCare please provide assistance? I am using the Retina Mac Book Pro laptop.

  • How can I get 300 dpi tifs out of webex stills & then worked on in adobe illustrator?

How can I get 300 dpi tifs out of webex stills & then worked on in adobe illustrator?
I have been trying to convert images created in webex and transferred to illustrator into 300 dpi tifs. They download as ucf's when generated on white board. Or I have to upload files from other webex participants coming in at 72 dpi, converting them to something bigger in photoshop to paint in before taking them back into the webex session as a doc that then gets worked on further during the session. Later they go into illustrator for some more work with vectors. That's fine for the web but now a publisher wants them as 300 dpi tifs and I can only get things back & forth as 72 dpi pdf's. If I try to bump them up with a resample, they come out teensy weensy. What am I missing and is there any way to make them look good?

What I need is to be able to transfer the images between formats without degradation of the resolution and find ways to sharpen what I have even if I can't increase pixels. If the original I'm delivered is a 96 dpi power point slide, for example, that's what I have to work with, I'm using Illustrator to compensate with vectors. But then I still need to get it back to a 300 dpi tiff to meet the specs.

  • .swf image comes out lighter than the source

I'm creating a simple animation in AE from a jpeg image. I bring up some text on the image. When I create the .swf file, the background that the text appears on is lighter than the original jpeg in the Safari browser. Since this animation "tiles" into the page with other jpegs sharing the same background image, the light background produced by the .swf stands out from the rest of the page.
This only seems to appear in the Safari browser under OSX. FireFox doesn't have this problem. However, since I need this to work across all browsers, I need to solve this issue.
If I make a .mov file instead of a .swf, it also appears lighter than the source.
In fact, if I simply take a jpeg image and create a 1 frame .swf from it, it comes out lighter than the original. I'm not doing anything to the image (as far as I know) that would make it lighter.
Any insight to what is causing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

It's ColorSync and how it is used throughout your system, even if only for on-screen Gamma correction. In so many words: There's nothing you can do about it but to reset your settings and turn it off wherever that is possible. Not on my Mac ATM and not using Safari anyways, but I'm reasonably certain there's an option for using the system color settings somewhere. Depending on how you process the JPEG you may also need to fiddle with the color settings for the Adobe suite. Flash itself is not color profiled, but it will respect embedded proviles by ways of its image loaders that it shares with Photoshop and al lthe other apps. Beyond that I wouldn't get too crazy over it: Color mismatches and shifting alignment are a natural bane of all web development, and even if you get it right on one machine, the next day another user will tell you that it looked crap on his machine in Konqueror on Linux.... More than anything else, webdesign is a matter of using the design to cheat around these limitations, unfortunately. Perhaps you can use a large background Flash file instead of the original JPEG and then put your HTML content onto a separate DIV layer...? ;-)

  • Sending hi res (300 dpi) jpegs from Lightroom 4

I am taking a course on making Christmas decorations.  Have been asked to send my images @ 3" x 3", 300 dpi, medium jpeg.  We have spent 2 days back and forth with this and I have not been able to complete the Export panel correctly.  Can anyone help.  Thanks.

    WallStShari wrote:
I had cropped my image to 3 x 3 first.
Unless you want square pictures, crop to whatever dimensions are most pleasing, e.g. 4000x3000 (i.e. as big as possible preserving the portion of image you want), cropped dimension bears no relationship to print resolution (which is what the dpi value is referring to, or should be).
If you truly want square pictures, then crop to 4000x4000 or 3000x3000 or 2000x2000 etc. in other words: crop determines aspect ratio (overall retangular shape: square, wide, tall, ...).
Now that you've got them cropped correctly (or maybe they didn't need to be cropped at all - do you really want exactly square pictures?), you need to export them how she wants them, which, assuming she's using the correct terminology (or should I say terminology consistent with Lightroom's export dialog box), then export them at 900 pixels per side, max, and set (print) resolution to 300 pixels per inch.
    That should do it.
If that doesn't do it, then you need to get more specific instructions from her.
    Example settings:
Note: (print) Resolution merely sets a metadata item in the file, it (otherwise) has no effect whatsoever on exported image.
    WallStShari wrote:
She said it only came to her at 240 pixels square.
An image exported with the above settings will come to her at 900 pixels on a side (square if cropped square, or rectangular with 900 pixels on long edge, if not cropped square). Just make sure you've not cropped it down to fewer pixels than 900 on a side, or you'll be losing quality, since it'll have to be enlarged to meet requirements. Greater than 900 pixels per side is OK, since Lr can shrink files without such quality loss.
Regarding Jpeg quality: 90 is very high, 80 is high, 60-70 is medium, 50 or below is (relatively) "low" - roughly and subject to opinion.

  • Scanned images come out pixelated when printed

When I scan images with my Brother MFC-9120CN, they display in great quality when viewed with Photoshop Elements and other software. However when I print these images that look smooth and sharp on the the screen they come out heavily pixelated. Now these are 1200 dpi scans. The weird thing is that downloaded images, which were scanned at 72 dpi by other people, print without pixelation. I'm at a loss to explain this. Is there anyone out there who's had the same problem? And more importantly, is there a solution? Could it be bug with Snow Leopards core graphics? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dpi means nothing unless you can also tell us the dimensions you are printing at. You have a fixed number of pixels in an image and their density is dependent on the dimensions you are printing at.
After all it means dots per inch. So, for instance, you cannot print a 3 inch x 2 inch that has density of 72 dpi image at 10 x 8. Why? At 10 x 8 it will no longer be 72 dpi because the same number of pixels is spread over a larger area.
As a rule of thumb - and heavily dependent on the quality of the actual pics - you might get acceptable prints at 200 dpi. But most folks recommend 300.

  • PDF does not display 300 dpi images in Safari only

I have a dynamically generated PDF that contains a 300 dpi image. The image added can be one of several that the user selects. On all other browsers the pdf renders fine. On Safari only, seemingly in all modern flavors of OSx and Safari, the images begin to print and then  stops printing the actual image and grey is printed in the remaining space the image would take up. To make it more fun one of the images renders fine. It is the 3rd smallest image and the 2 smaller ones do not render so it does not seem to be size related. Hoping someone here has seen this before.
This is a screenshot to use as an example:
The folding instructions graphic is also 300dpi.

    Thanks Hackintosh.
It prints as it views, as a corrupt jpeg. I also dug into console and it confirmed there was an error about a corrupt jpg. The most interesting thing is if I open the bad pdf in Photoshop the whole image is there with no signs of corruption. This leads me to believe it's something with how OSx and/or Safari are rendering the jpgs. Another curious sidenote, Safari on Windows works fine but if you save the pdf, move it to a mac and open it, you get the corrupted jpg again.
I think I'm going to try and stop swimming upstream now. At the end of the day I don't care if the images are pngs, tiffs, or eps. I'm going to try feeding a few different formats and see if that doesn't fix the problem.
