Processing Multiple Files Problem

Elements 5.0, Windows Vista
Under FILE I see there is a "Process Multiple Files" function.
I have gone there and tried to process several images... setting it to "Convert To JPEG Medium quality" and processed.
My thought is that, same as "Save To Web", it would have taken a 100k jpg and made it say 40k for the web as it would if you used "Save To Web" and saved with JPEG Med Quality there.
But it doesn't, the file size is near exactly the same after processing. I have hundreds of images to process at a time and I can't possibly do save to web one by one by one.
Any idea what is going on? How to make it work? Maybe it's not supposed to do that?
Suggestions on how to automate a batch of alot of images for save to web compression?

  • Elements 11, PC Windows 8.  Problem: Process Multiple Files is grayed out.  How can I activate it?

I have to reduce the resolution for files in a folder.  I have done this in the past but have a problem with the reinstall of Elements 11 on a PC that lost it's mind and had to reinstall all software.  The Process Multiple Files under the File heading is grayed out and will not allow me to point to the files to be reduced.  Sure would like some help on this.   THX.

You have to be in Expert Mode (see this picture) to enable the "Process Multiple Files ..." from the file menu.   You are in the Editor windows, right?

  • Problem Processing Multiple Files in Photoshop Elements

I have always used the process multiple files option in the File drop down menu without issue. I recently completed editing some photos as I have done before and wanted to process them into a smaller JPEG file and add my watermark. I set all the settings in the process multiple files program and clicked OK. The first image came up and appeared to process but then a "save as" dialogue box came up. The box was asking to save the file as a photoshop file and not a JPEG. I cant seem to find out why it is doing this. I have restarted the program and my computer running it and I have tried running the same process on other files with the same result.

    Which Elements version ?
Was it a raw format file ?
If so, is your bit mode menu in the middle of the bottom bar of the ACR dialog set to 16 bits ? Try setting it to 8 bits and save a raw file in 8 bits before trying the process multiple files again to see if that makes a difference.

  • Can't process multiple files on one of three catalogs

After getting straightened out about getting my catalogs in order, which I've done, I've run into another problem. I have three catalogs one for People, one for Things and one I call Workplace where I try out things that are new to me so I don't mess up my main catalogs.
I've straightened out the files in my Things catalog. I have one catagory that contains images of autograph book pages from the late 1800s. Those scans were done in JPEG some time ago. I've tried using multiple processing to change these 55 images to psd in the original file to be consistent with the rest of the catalog. Each time the process fails.
In order to see what the problem might be I have copied the catagory file into both of my other catalogs and have been able to process the catagory file back into itself as psd. I have also created another small file in the Things catalog and tried to convert it and had the same result. The warning info box that appears when copying back into the same file states that the original files will be overwritten. The psd files do not overwrite the jpg files. They are added to the original file. That may be the way it is intended to be. That's not a real problem.
The real question is why can't I process multiple files in the original catalog. I have looked at the error file and, although I don't know much about most of it, I found the following in the first part of the file.
    crash exception="EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION"
I run XP SP3 and PSE 8. I am a single user with administrator rights. I find no mention of a  permission filter in the PSE 8 program.
I'm stuck until I solve this problem and I need help getting it done. Any suggestions or information will be greatly appreciated.

One thing to try : instead of using 'process multiple files', can you use the 'export' feature in the Organizer to export the jpegs of that category in psd format into a new folder ?

  • Process Multiple Files in Bridge

I am trying to process multiple files in Bridge CS3 using Photoshop Elements 9.  It does not give me an error, it just does nothing.  Can someone help me figure out how to fix this?  It used to do this now I am having problems.

Can someone help me figure out how to fix this?  It used to do this now I am having problems.
Without knowing your workflow or your OS to my knowledge Bridge CS3 is not designed for Photoshop Elements 9 but for Photoshop CS3. There used to be a Bridge CS4 version bundled with PSElements 8 for a Mac but thats all I know about it.
However if you want to open files from Bridge in PS Elements you should either select the files you want and with right mouse click menu choose open with and from the submenu choose PSElements 9 or go to the Bridge preferences file type associations and change the file type you need in PSE to open in PSE9 by default.
If this is not the answer you expected could you be more specific about OS (windows/Mac) and what you mean with process (raw settings, batch actions or just open in, etc.)

  • URGENT!!!  Please help~ Process Multiple Files says folder empty

When I try to use the Process Multiple Files feature, it is giving me a message saying that the process was stopped or cancelled. Press continue or stop.  When I click continue, it say that the folder is empty.  It is not empty.    This is  what I use all the time to put my watermark on my photos.  I've never had a problem with it before.  Any suggestions?  Please

Thank you for responding.    I am using Windows 8.  Since posting this about Process Multiple Images, I have noticed that PSE is not even opening images.  It will open the File>OPEN window, and act like it is going to import the image for about 1 second.  Then......nothing????   Any suggestions?

  • Process Multiple Files hangs Computer

Running PSE 12 on a HP Pavilion with Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1 and all current patches applied.
I am what I consider an avid photographer (not professional but I take a lot of pictures) and I have been using PhotoShop Elements for over 5 years (all different versions of course).
Recently whenever I use Process Multiple Files in the editor to get photos ready for displaying on my blog my computer just hangs and I have to turn it off by way of the power switch.
    Here is what happens:
I edit photos in the editor adjusting exposure and cropping and such then I need to get them ready to display online so I go into Process Multiple Files (much faster then doing it one by one).
I then point the output to the folder I want adjust the output size and file type to JPEG and click on OK.
The photos get processed as always and I am presented with the blank editor screen (no pictures as they all closed after being processed)
Then when I try to go back to the organizer (or any place else) the computer just sits there and does nothing (The clock does not even update during this hang).
I tried to get to the Task Manager by hitting the Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys but nothing happens. The computer is totally unresponsive.
I have even tried just letting it sit and see if it ever comes back. When I did this it eventually blanked my screen after the time I specified in the screen saver. When I moved the mouse it just came back to the empty editor.
When I need to edit my photos I use Process Multiple Files all the time as it is a great time saver when saving photos for the web.
Any and all help will be appreciated in resolving this issue.
P.S. I have been using PSE12 since December of 2013 without any problems until now. Also it does not matter if I process 3 files or 30 files same results, computer hangs.

The folder I was trying to process was in another folder with a
backslash in the name. Once I removed the backslash, Process Multiple

  • Photoshop Elements 7,Process Multiple Files , size of destination file wrong

In Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, I am using the Process Multiple Files tool to change the names (First Box contains: “Rob” + Second Box “1 Digit Serial Number”) of files an add a watermark. The Name & water mark are created correctly.
The Resize Images Box & File Type Box are not checked.
No matter what I have tried so far the destination size if the files is about 1/10 the size of the source, for example  5,728 To 506 .
    What am I going wrong?

    Thank You
Your suggestion let to my solution of the problem.

  • Process Multiple Files, PDF failing

I am trying to use the option to process multiple files in PSE 9. I select the source folder, destination folder, and no matter what I select as a converting option I get the error.
"There were no source files that could be opened by photoshop elements"
Despite the fact that PSE successfully opens each of these PDF files in the background, it just doesn't do any processing and displays the error.  So now if I go back under the process multiple files menu, and select Process Open files, and click OK, it will now convert each of the files that PSE left open during the previous failed attempt.
In this particular test case I am trying to convert 10 1 Page PDF files to PNG format, but again the destination format selected does not matter as it fails no matter what. This seems like an obvious case of some sort of bug based on the fact that PSE is successfully opening and converting each file, it just won't do it when the folder is selected as the source.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated, as we are currently running a trial of 9.0 to verify it can do everything we need it to do around the office. We are currently running PSE 2.0 so needless to say we are looking forward to running software thats just slightly newer if we can get some problems worked out.

Did you ever figure this out?
I have 100 single PDF files that I would like to convert to JPG.  There are online tools like zamzar.com to do this but there are limits on number of files, or if combined on the size.
I have Adobe Photoshop Elements PSE 11 and using the batch processing "Process multiple files" option I can select that "from" directory, it thinks awhile, opens them all in Adobe Photoshop with the same error you indicated above: "There were no source files that could be opened by photoshop elements".  It does not make sense because as you say, I can then simply "Save As" and convert into jpg format.  Opening a PDF file without multi support works just fine, as well.  The tool does what I need, just doens't work in the batch mode.
    Thanks!

I have added some comments because this feature is not behaving
    according to the book.
I have tried using dummy files with simple titles but nothing works
and I do not understand what is causing the problem. The Mac input

  • Process Multiple Files on a Mac.

Erroro message is "Could not complete your request because of a disk error".
I have a new Mac Book pro with the new Lion OSX. I've installed PSE 10. I used to have a PC and I absolutely love Photoshop Elements. I especially love being able to batch process a lot of photos at one time automatically.
It seems that PSE is not finding the photo files. They are there but they are not being picked up by the program. Is this program not compatible with this computer or what. I am getting very frustrated and feel I have wasted my money on buying a program that once was a very easy program to use. How do I get PSE to work in the process multiple files function.
I've read all the tutorials and researched some of the answers provided in this forum but the one that may have helped me is not an easy problem solving exercise. What am I doing wrong.
I notice that PSE will not find files on I Photo either, so I have to create seperate files to even begin to start to find the photo files in PSE.
Looking forward to a fix on this as I have been a huge PSE fan.
    Phil...

The editor prefs often get corrupted. You may need to rebuild the editor preferences to resolve any conflicts.
Hold down the Cmd+Opt+Shift keys and simultaneously click on the Edit button on the welcome screen. Release the three keys and look behind the welcome screen by closing it. Or go to applications and hold down the three keys whilst double clicking on Photoshop Elements Editor application.
You should see a pop up box with the words: Delete Adobe Photoshop Elements Settings File?
    Click on Yes

  • PSE5 Process Multiple Files Image Resize

I want to batch convert some TIFF files to JPG and make them all 300 ppi. I tried suing the Multiple file processor in the Editor just entering 300 in resolution and leaving width & height blank. I hoped it would perform the same process as going to image resize and and changing resolution with resample and constrain proportions turned off. Instead it has changed the ppi from 72 to 300, but kept the size the same i.e. has added lots of extra pixels making the file enormous.
The only way I can force it to shrink the image is to enter say 30cm as the width. The problem with this is twofold a) I have to trun all my photos so they are landscape b) if I have cropped a photo such that it doesn't have enough pixels to stretch then again it is getting resampled.
Is this a limitation of PSE5 that wouldn't be there in CS3 or am I doing something wrong? I only want to print tham out 15x10 but read I should resize everything to 300 ppi. To be honest I never did this before I had PSE and they seemed to come out OK from a Canon that saves the files as default 72 ppi but large dimensions. Maybe someone couldexplain in laymans terms why the photos need to be resized to 300 ppi anyway? Thank you

Well, you see, Process Multiple files is doing just what you asked it to do: it's
resizing the photos. But you don't really want to resize the photos, just change the ppi setting. Is there a particular reason you want them to be 300ppi? PPI is a setting that only matters for printing or if you are sending a photo somewhere that requires that marker to be set to 300. Your camera doesn't know anything about ppi, only absolute pixel dimensions (eg 2480 x 1795 or whatever).
When you go to print, however, your printer may prefer to have a higher pixel density, since it can play your pixels like an accordian: squash them closer together or spread them out thinner, depending on that ppi marker. The pixel density determines the inch/cm size of your print (at 72 ppi you'll get a print that's hugely bigger but less detailed; at 300 ppi a crisper smaller print.)
I'm wondering why you would want to batch convert a whole big bunch of images at once, though. It would help if you would explain just what you want to do with the photos that requires the 300 ppi.

  • Process Multiple Files - Convert PSD to JPG

Having problems converting large (30MB) psd files to jpg (not jpeg2000). I tried using the Process Multiple Files feature and when I tried to convert a large number of psd files (20 or more) PSE3 stops at the first file with a second window, SAVE AS, asking for a different format and gives these choices: Photoshop, JPEG 2000, Photoshop PDF, Photoshop RAW, PNG, TIFF. All not what I want. Yet when I convert the same PSD files to tiff it goes without a hitch, ie no second Save As box and no stopping. What gives?
    Suggestions appreciated.

First, I'm using an iMac G5 with Mac OS 10.4.7 and PSE3. Actually my question is really about a Batch Flip. I scanned a lot of slides (close to a 1000) at the 'best' quality I could which was 16 bit color (or as Canon calls it, 48 bit) and 2400 bit dpi. But there was a problem in that the slides being 'emulsion side down' during scanning produced a mirror image. These images have to be 'Horizontal Flipped' to get back to a correct image. To do the flip I either had to do it one at a time with PSE3 or try a batch process. Trouble is the programs I tried for the batch process will not work on 16 bit files as I deduced from your reply. So, my thought was to convert them to jpg first then batch flip, hence my question here. Also jpgs would be more manageable for viewing, slide shows, editing and other software while I could store the original *.psd files on DVDs. So now I am left with doing a Batch Flip one at a time then storing the originals on DVDs, and as I have a Windows box connected, copy then over and use something like IrFanview to convert the originals to jpgs for slide shows etc. Another issue: are jpgs the way to go or is there a better format? Tiff?
    Suggestions appreciated.

How do I process multiple files and turn them from raw to jpeg. Ive tried and it seems to go through the files but doesnt seem to process them or store them in the selected folder

Yes that was the first thing I did. Then I used the process multiple files and selected a new folder to put them in and selected use open files and selected to turn them into jpeg. The images flash on the screen like they are being processed, but the folder never appears in library. Is it possible because there are a couple 16 bit files open that this corrupts the task. Do I need to create the folder first. Will elements not create the folder on its own.
