Processor backing plate with K8N Neo

Hi,
I am waiting for my K8N Neo to turn up (placed order with Dabs last week), I have just got my OEM 3200+ and also a Scythe Samurai heatsink, the problem is though the heatsink does not come with the backing plate for underneath the motherboard. It says that you should use the one that comes with the processor or motherboard. Seeing that I have an OEM processor there is none with that.
So my question is will I get one with my K8N Neo, and if not where can I get one? I do not want to be in the position where I get the motherboard and then find that I cannot build the PC for another 3 or 4 days.
Thanks for the help,
Dylan

...here's a thread on this topic in the AMD Forums...I'm a little surprised...

  • Success with K8N Neo Plat + ATI 9800Pro?

I'm trying to decide on whether to go with the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB or the GeForce 6800nu. But I've read a lot of places where people have had problems combining the MSI K8N Neo Platinum and the Radeon 9800 Pro cards together... lots of blue screening or choppiness when playing games like FarCry or other heavy hitters. So that's why I'm considering the GeForce card instead, but I'd really like to stick with the ATI if possible.
So, if you have a combination of that mobo and gfx card, please post the results of your success or problems (and why) along with your system specs.
    Thanks in advance!

Since my power upgrade to a Tagan 480W, I haven't had any problems anymore! With the new ATi catalyst 4.9 drivers I reached 6005 3DMarks (2003 build 340) yesterday. Without any OC-ing, I think that's great! Before the Tagan psu I had some drops to 3700 3dmarks, so make sure you get a psu with at least 24amps or more on the +12V rail for this kind of system!
No choppiness in games either, in fact they (Farcry, Colin Mcrae, CoD, Doom3 since 4.9 drvs etc etc) all look great!
I can really recommend the ATi9800Pro 128 MB + MSI Neo plat. + a AMD64 CPU as lons as you buy a decent psu with it! I mean the ATi9800 Pro has a great price / performance these days

  • [AMD] Highest clock speed with K8N Neo Plat + A64 3200+ Newcastle?

Who owns the exact setup (ram+cpu+mobo) as me and what is the clock speed you all achieved? Mine can only go till 220x11, Ram at 220mhz,
    (2.4ghz, DDR440)?

The place I bought my parts from were selling similar ready-built systems with K8N and Geil Value Ram (not Golden) so I thought it would have been fine also (same Antec case and PSU)...
300W and 10A is pretty low for a PSU (mine's only 350W and 16A though) - but your problem sounds very much like my original problem (although worse).
Take a look at Ram that does not work well with MSI K8N:

angusmcchris: Kingston Value RAM doesn't work so hot. Would have saved me a weekend's worth of horror if I had found this thread earlier.  I had to lower the RAM speed down to 166MHz to get it to work, and now its time to go to bed.

eLeCTR0n: I have a Kingston DDR 400 MHz 512MB card (not the HyperX). I couldnt do anything first when i had it installed in slot 1 running at Max Mem Clock of 200. I couldnt install any OS. i got the blue screen million times and many different ones. Even linux failed to install until i slowed it down to 166 in the BIOS then everything worked fine. Then i wanted to see if i had a defective motherboard or ram card so i bought a PNY DDR 400 512MB ram stik pulged in at 200 and it worked perfectly.
Also look at Ram that works well with MSI K8N for good, compatible RAM...
I can't recommend Crucial Ballistix enough: 2-2-2-8 timings @ 1T on AUTO settings. Never had a single glitch with hours and hours of Doom3, Half Life2, etc...

  • Weird problem with k8n neo fsr

    hello!
i have weird problem with my K8N Neo-fsr and Athlon 64 2800+ socket 754, when i try to overclock i change in bios HT from 4 to 3 (for better stability), after restart nothing happen, my pc wont boot, also nothing on screen, so i must clear cmos for solve my problem and set to 4   i try several bioses from official to moded also pinochio`s and syar`s moded and allways the same issue    is it problem with processor? or motherboard?
thanx for your help and sorry for my english

You should first get down cpu ratio, then get up cpu fsb and as you wanted set ht frequency from 4 to 3 and "save changes and exit" if it doesn't boot change you psu (at least antec 380 or tagan) or go fast to send back your mobo to reseller!!

  • Help with K8N NEO 4 and AMD X2 3800+!!!

When it does this, the monitor will go into standby until it restarts, with the little amber light and everything. It does it more often on some games than others. The memory has passed a 24 hr memtest 86 with no errors, and this is the second psu i've tired and still get the same result. The psu in it right now is brand new. I dunno what to do. I'm tired of not being able to play my games b/c of this. The heatsink on the CPU is stock. Also on the graphics card. Temps never reach above 47C on the processor and 65C on the GFX card. • Problem with K8N Neo 4 Platinum

Hi I am new on this forum.
I have problem with proper configuration of the BIOS in K8N Neo 4 Platinum. My processor is Athlon 64 3000. It has 1800 clock. My BIOS  makes default 200MHz x 5. It makes 1000 MHz clock. Will it be good if I change at 200 x 9?
Other thing: I tried to change at 200 x 9 but in Windows (2000) is still 200 x 5 (acc. to Core Cell). When I chanded on 200 x 7,5 all in Windows was ok. Core Cell showed 200 x 7,5. How I may resolve this problem?

I have my memory in green slots. Does dual channel works in this case?
    - No  Green = Channel A, Purple =Chanel B use Green nearest cpu & adjacent  purple slot.

    HT freq.   5x
That's your HT multiplier as mentioned by Some1ne not the Adjust CPU Ratio which is the CPU multiplier.
Your CPU is running at the correct speed.
DDR Clock: 167 MHz s/be 200 - this should chnge when memory is in right slots.
Change memory over & let's have a look @ those settings then.
    luck

  • Boot-up Problems with K8N Neo

I've just upgraded my computer with a K8N Neo motherboard, AMD 64 3000+ processor and a nice new Antec case.
I have a few problems so far.
    1.  95% of the time, when POST gets to "Verifying DMI Pool Data"...the NVIDIA Boot Agent will kick in, i assume because it can't boot from my hdd.  But i can't for the life of me figure out why, the hdd is from my old computer but it's a clean copy of Windows XP on there.  I have disabled SATA in bios.  The other 5% of the time my computer boots up fine.
    2.  POST is very slow, it can take up to 5 minutes just to detect the IDE drives.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, i'm not sure if ive included enough information, so please ask if you need more.
    Thanks!

    hi dave,
can you give us more details about your spec please,
Memory, Hard drives (Manf Model Capacity & Pata(ide) or Sata), optical drives, power supply model & max amps on 3.3,5 & 12v rails please.
this will help us to help you & save unesecary questions.

but it's a clean copy of Windows XP on there
youve just created this on the new mobo?
    enter bios -
Cmos setup check that your drives appear as you expect them.
Advanced bios options - Hard disk boot order check that the HD with windows on is at the top of the lisi, use pageup/down keys to move it.
    save changes & exit

  • MSGTAG Software not working with K8N Neo LAN Port

    Greetings All,
I'm having a problem using a message receipt service called MSGTAG (http://www.msgtag.com) It works with Microsoft Outlook and while it still uses Port 25 for the SMTP server, it also creates Port number 7362 to "listen" for when the recipient opens the e-mail and sends a receipt back to the originator.  This service will not get past the LAN port on the K8N Neo Platinum board.  Outlook just hangs until an error message pops up saying a connection to the smtp server was interrupted.  I thought it might be the nVIDIA firewall software, so after opening up to correct ports, it still won't work.  I then uninstalled the firewall all togther, but still no luck.
I'm running all the latest MSI and nVIDIA drivers.
I should note  that as soon as I enable my PCI NIC and use that, everything is fine.
Anyone have a suggestion?  MSGTAG tech support wasn't much help.
    Much appreciated.

Looks like I finally figured it out.  In the nVIDIA ForceWare interface under Ethernet Settings---->Advanced Configuration--->Checksum Offload, uncheck the box that says "TCP Transmit Checksum Offload" and hit "Apply" and now it works!
I have the overall Firewall set to "High" profile, and now the only two websites that don't come up at all are http://www.extremetech.com and http://www.netflix.com .  I've seen postings in here before about Netflix.  Does anyone has an easy answer as to what source code these two websites have in common that would make this firewall block them?
The only firewall setting I can find so far that allows them to load is "Off".  I could drop it each time I guess, but there has to be another way.
Thanks for any help you can give!

  • Boot Problem with K8n Neo 2 Platinum

I cant get my Computer to load the bios
Sometimes when I restart my computer it will lock up in the Bios Sign on and the only way to get it to boot through is to keep resetting the computer and turning the power off and on. It does this on a random basis, Ive also had problems with it locking up if the dynamic oc is turned on.
Has anybody heard of this happening or know how to fix it?

    SB audigy 2 ZS
    LiteOn cd/dvd drive
    LiteOn dvd burner
    Windows XP SP2

Corsair memory is known to be troublesome with AMD64.
Nevertheless, if everything is set correctly, it'll work.  I've been running the LLPRO 3200 1GB kit at 220MHz without any noticable problems.  Run a couple of rounds with Memtest86+ to verify memory functionality.
Can you please give your specifications on the power supply unit (PSU), especially the amperage on the +12 volt rail.
    Anders.

  • D-BRacket 2 and keyboard cordless problem with k8n neo platinum

    hi
    i have two problems
    the d-bracket2 doesn't work
when my game controller is on , it isn't recognized by Win XP
but the 4 leds are green.
i tried the two connectors and it's the same thing.
my logitech cordless keyboard doesn't work in the bios
i tried with the ps2 but the keyboard didn't work in XP
i check the bios with an other keyboard and the usb keyboard support is enabled
    can you help me ?
    PS: Sorry for my english

    Hi galette,
    Do you have a k8n neo or neo2 ?
At least some neo2's have problems with ps/2 keyboards. Their users could circumvent this by using usb keyboards.
I have a logitech cordless desktop myself and for me it works. Perhaps you can borrow a usb keyboard to test it ?

  • Post problem with K8N Neo Platinum

I am assembling a system for a friend and it hangs according to D-Bracket2 on Processor initialization (Led 1:red, led 2:green, led 3: green led 4: red)
    Specs
    PSU:   Codegen 350W    ( 3,3V   14A
                                           5V     30A
                                           12V    15A  )
VGA:   Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
    CPU:   AMD Athlon 3000+
    HDD:   Seagate 7200.7  120GB  in   SATA1-port
    DVD:   MSI DR8-A  DVD Burner
    RAM:   M-Tec 512MB  DDR400
If the problem is the processor it should hang on Power On (all leds red), right?
There's some damage done to CPU fan connector so the sensor wire from the CPU fan might have no connection to the mobo. How about ESD-damage, can it cause this?
Another thing I might have done wrong is connecting front panel connectors.
I am just hoping and praying that the processor is OK and the mobo causes this.

Thanks to RacerX for answering but the problem wasn't the PSU.
Mobo caused it and I replaced it.  I think it was the physical damage I mentioned in the first post. I also changed hdd from SATA1-port to SATA3-port but I don't think it matters.
Now everything works fine so +12V/15 Amps is enough.
Does the K8N Neo Platinum hang on Processor Init if it doesn't detect CPU Cooler?

  • How do you Norton Ghost 9.0 with K8N Neo Platinum?

    Hi,
I have K8N Neo Platinum and I can't ghost! I use the Norton's Ghost 9.0 boot CD and push f6 to add Nvidia Raid Driver. I used 2 Nvidia Raid drivers. One was on MSI webpage date 6-23-2004 and the other was 5.10 driver .Both of them say nvidia.sys error and the computer reboots. Has anyone image or clone hard drive in RAID 0 ? What software do you guys to use to clone or image with RAID 0 with this mobo?
    Please Help,
    Scott

There are a few posts about seem to be varying degrees of success
    Raid Setup Help
    suggest forum search for Ghost
try PM pps to see what drivers they used
    good luck

    Cpu burn 25 min-->CPU Max 52.
    VGA Max 50.
    Any Idea ??

If that doesn't work then I will give you the advice that others gave me... and just makes sense.
Get rid of all OC'ing, increase RAM latency, etc.  Your rig might be a little slow for a while but at least you will determine if something in your hardware just can't handle the extra strain.  If you can get it to run stable on slower settings then you can gradually start bumping things up.
Oh, one more thing that I just thought of.  Have you done any tweaking in the registry?  There is a registry key called disableexecutivepaging that can speed up your general performance but can cause death under a heavy load.  Just a thought.

  • Pci card issues with K8N Neo-V2

    Motherboard: MSI K8N Neo V2.0  (ms-7030 ver:3.0)
Network & sound cards won't work properly with this motherboard while using Ubuntu 7.10 or 8.04 but they work fine under Windows XP Pro. The same network & sound cards were tested with other motherboards running Windows or Ubuntu successfully. Shortly thereafter, the motherboard wouldn't POST correctly so I flashed the bios with the correct bios from http://www.msicomputer.com/support/bios_result.asp
After following the flashing instructions, I checked the CMOS settings & the incorrect bios version is displayed. If I install Ubuntu while using these cards, neither network nor sound cards will work but onboard sound & audio adapters work. I've tried everything posted on the MSI site regarding flashing & bios recovery but all results are failures. Is there anything else I can do to zero this motherboard & getting it working properly?  Thanks.

Only reason why I flashed/updated the BIOS is because the motherboard wouldn't POST properly. After I flashed the BIOS, the motherboard POSTed fine.
To answer your question about the BIOS update you listed, yes, I did try that one along with a version 7 listed for the same part #: ms-7030.
I reinstalled Windows XP Pro last night & both cards are working fine. Because this project seems like an experiment to me, I tried the latest Live Update utility offered by MSI. Strangely, it saw that I was using BIOS version 7 & showed me a version 7.1 update. I updated the BIOS again to version 7.1, and the BIOS version listed now in the CMOS is version 7.1.
As for what components I have, I'm using the following:
audio: Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live! (ct4780)
    video: MSI FX 5200
    network: Linksys lne100tx v4
hard drive: IDE ata100 Western Digital WD800JB
    power supply: Allied 12v 400w
