Processor locks up when using Firefox, help!
I am still new to the Mac world and need some help.
I have a 2009 Macbook, with Mac OS X, 10.6.8, Processor is 2.26 and memory is 4gb.
I've noticed lately that when using Firefox I seem to have lock up issues and I can't click anything. The rainbow processor thing just keeps running and running. Often times I cannot even click the Apple icon in the tool bar in order to get to force quit. (I don't know what buttons to push for force quit)
The only way to solve the problem is to hard boot the computer and I know that is not a good thing to do. What is going on with the processor as to why it gives me hang ups when using Firefox? I have about 5-6 windows open and each has about 7-8 tabs open.
Should I upgrade to Mountain Lion? Will that help? Again, any advice or assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated, keep in mind I am not a techie kind of person, so simple terms will be best.

I've run Spybot, C-Cleaner, and my anti-virus to confirm that there's nothing else wrong with the computer outside Firefox. If the computer is rebooted and Firefox is not opened, the system is fine. But once Firefox has been opened - even if it survives the session and I close Firefox - the computer is about 75% likely to lock up, requiring a hard reboot. I'm running Vista Home edition (32 bit). If anyone has a clue what might help stop this - because I'm quite sure that it's not healthy for my computer to be hard rebooted twice (or more) a day - I'd love to hear it! It's getting waaaay more than annoying, enough so that I'm ready to move to another browser to stop the problem.

Try closing Firefox completely
*Close Firefox properly '''File > Exit''', not with the "X" which just closes the window.
*Use the Windows Task Manager "Processes" tab to make sure that firefox.exe is not running and also that the plugin-container.exe is not running.
If that does not work, try restarting the system.
If still no luck try restoring bookmarks from last backup, or better create your own .json backup and restore from that.

The following will result in complete loss of history if it comes down to deleting places.sqlite, so rename files rather than deleting. With Firefox down.
Of course you have backups of your profile you could replace rename and
replace those files instead.

I resend some emails regularly with only slight changes to the email so I usually do a "reply all" or "forward" . Recently I cannot see the text in the body of the emails using FireFox, however I can see the complete email when using FireFox mobile or Internet Explorer. Any ideas what is causing the problem and how to fix it? I have tried to copy and paste the text into a new email but that didn't work.

I uninstalled Adobe reader, then did the rest of your suggestions but the problem remains. It is only with 3 emails that get resent daily with slight changes to the text. It is like most of the text has been removed from the email.

When using Firefox certain videos play but the image is green and distorted. The image turns into lines and sometimes it half of the screen of the video. Examples are streaming MLB.tv video and some vimeo videos. The odd thing is that it isn’t all Vimeo videos. Is this a flash issue?
The issue does not happen with Internet Explorer which leads me to believe this is an issue with Firefox. I downgraded to 3.5 and the issue still persists.

The mouse driver is Synaptics but this works with all other apps and Internet Explorer, but suddenly stopped when using Firefox and all tabs. Not sure why so can you help?
If it is a laptop, I've heard of vertical and horizontal scrolling being switched on the touch-pad in Firefox. Bring up "Mouse" in the Control panel and see if you can fix there, best if just going there fixes, but that's really pushing luck. If you activate horizontal and deactivate vertical wonder what happens in other applications.
My driver only allows vertical scrolling control along the right edge and does not provide horizontal scrolling at the bottom edge I turn the mousepad off though and use a mouse. -
please help. my address bar has vanished. i have no idea how to retrieve it, so can only access bookmarked sites when using firefox.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Full Screen mode with all toolbars hidden.
* Press F11 to toggle full screen mode (Firefox/File > Full Screen)
If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout" (Linux, Windows)
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar

Thanks for your suggestion. My problem occurs when trying to open any type of file (at least .doc and .pdf, as far as I know). As I mentioned, when I log into hotmail from another browser, I am then able to open my attachments. I am hoping to figure out how to tinker with firefox so I no longer have this issue. I am not sure what is causing this block, but I know it has to do with Firefox (or settings relating to) or related add ons. -
Just Installed Firefox 6.0.2 And I'm Having Many Problems On Some Web Sites When Using Firefox:
-When I click on a picture on some sites it will go to the next page with a large view of the picture and then when I go back one page to do the same with another picture (or even the same picture) nothing happens.
-Videos don't show up or on some sites the videos do show up and work but you can't make them full screen. (YouTube works fine).
-Sometimes I have to click "Reload" to get my saved codes to show up.
-It won't let me log onto some sites unless I right click where it says "sign in" and click "open link in new tab".
-In some Forums the tool bars, smileys, etc. don't work when using Firefox or IE9 and they worked before with IE9.
-Some of my letters when viewed with IE9 are now in some kind of code (maybe html?).
I never had these problems before when using IE9 alone!
Java was updated before I installed Firefox and I installed the Adobe Flash Player 10 plugin right after installing Firefox. My OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

Check and tell if its working. -
When using firefox, I can no longer open attachments, pdf or downloads. A new window will open and it is blank. The only way to open an attachment or pdf is to shut down firefox and use safari. Everything works with safari so I can't understand what went wrong with firefox. I even download adobe reader thinking that would help. I then deleted my original firefox and re downloaded firefox again. It still doesn't work.
I am using a 10.6 operating system on my Mac.Try to disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application instead.

When using Firefox Sync on multiple devices, I used to be able to 'send' a tab from one computer to another. Is this still possible? If so, how?
I don't mean the ability to see what tabs are open on another device (I know how to do this). But if I am at work and find something that I want to read at home, it would be helpful to 'send' the tab to my home PC so that when I return home, it will automatically open that tab for me.Can anyone help?

Hello. I have windows xp. When using Firefox as my home page, I get awful screen interference of lines verticle and horizontal. When I switch to Internet Explorer I don't get them. I want to keep Firefox as server.
Here is something that you can try:
# Click on Tools and then click Options.
# Select the Advanced panel
# Select the General tab
# Uncheck Use hardware acceleration where available.
# Click File and then click Exit.
# Start Firefox normally.
Once you have followed those steps, you'll want to follow these as well and see if the lines are gone.
Click the Help menu and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
Let me know if this has eliminated the problem. -

Hmmmm, strange you view YouTube in Safari & not FF. Which version of FF are you using?

Repair permissions & restart.
Make sure you have the latest versions of Adobe Flash Player Software
QuickTime Preferences > Advanced > MIME Stettings > Miscellaneous.
Deactivate the "Flash Media" option. -
