Processor of Macbook Pro 2011 core i7 13.3". Turbo Boost monitor for Mac OS X?

Does it exist something like Intel® Turbo Boost Technology Monitor Overview for Mac OS X? I only know for Windows 7... Something like http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031038.htm
Where i can check, in Mac OS X, the speed of my processor?
Please HELP me.

I use Firefox, becasue I never put in the time to learn how Safari controls temporary/permanent cookie storage.
Firefox also has a large selection of add-ons to prevent javascript running or "tracking links" inside web pages, etc.

  • I am going to buy a MacBook Pro online. How do I organise Microsoft Office For Mac to load onto my new MacBook?

I am going to buy a MacBook Pro 15-inch online.  How do I purchase Microsoft Office For Mac to load onto my new MacBook?  Can I order this through the Apple website or do I have to go into an Apple Store?  Thank You

Jack, you can order online from Apple.  Their price right now for MS Office 2011 Mac Home/Student Edition is $150 US.  They might put it on your computer but it is very easy to do it yourself.
You could also order rthe same MS Office for Mac online from another retailer.  Ex.: OWC (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/software/)
& they have discounted right now for $110 US. I've gotten may products from them and they are easy to deal with & have good prices/products.
There are other retailers, of course, and sometimes I find good prices at the others as well.
Enjoy the new MacBook. And have a good New Year.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 Core i7 Quad Core 2.2 GHz freezes when running hot!

I just received my Core i7 2.2 GHz Quad Core 15 inch laptop today. I was eager to put it through its paces. I have been trying to compile/install gcc and watch some HD youtube clips at the same time. As it turns out that's a very bad combo for this laptop. Compiling gcc maxes out all 4 cores and then you add some graphics usage (especially on an external monitor, which kicks in the AMD 6750M chip), the computer overheats. When the CPU Temperature Diode measurement reaches 92 deg C, the computer crashes, every time. I have crashed my new laptop 6 times already this evening, all due to this issue. I kept an eye on my Kill a Watt meter and it pegs near 85 W (battery fully charged). I think a firmwire update to the fan control unit is in definitely needed. The fan is obviously not running aggressively enough. When you have a 45W CPU plus a 30W GPU, plus 13 W of just turning the machine on, then add in WiFi and HDD, you got one hot system. Intel lists a Tjunc of 100 deg C as their temperature limit. Apple needs to figure out either how to gracefully pause while the CPU hit that limits (i.e. not crashing the whole system), or keep their fans running more aggressively when the CPU + GPU activities picks up in a hungry.

I just did some more testing. The bottom line is not that the fans are unable to keep the computer cool, they can, it's just that they don't come to their maximum speed fast enough. Currently I'm encoding a 1080p video clip using HandBrake, watching another 1080p on YouTube, doing a WiFi transfer between two laptops, and having Google Earth spinning the globe in the background. All the CPU cores/threads are maxed out. I'm doing all this with an external monitor attached which means the AMD graphics chip is running too. With the both fans running max at 6200 rpm, the CPU diode temperature according to smcFanControl (and Temperature Monitor) has settle at 88-89 deg C, 3 degrees below the crash point. So the moral of the story is that if you know you are going to go from zero to 100 in CPU usage in no time, turn on smcFanControl and max out your fans first! This way, you won't overheat and crash. This might seem a bit too hands on for us regular users but at least it seems to works.

But it's covered by Apple's warranty - if you ask, they should erase & reinstall OS X then if it still panics without adding any 3rd party software, there has to be some problem with the computer.

  • MacBook Pro 2011 - 15" Core i7 - SSD - Heating, Screen Flickering Issues

    Hello,
I recently brought MacBook Pro 2011 15" Anti-glare High Resolution with Core i7 2.2 G Hz, SSD, 8GB of RAM. I installed Microsoft Office and Angry Birds at this time. I'm facing multiple issues with my first Mac. Is anyone facing these kinds of issues in new MacBook Pro 15" models?
Issue 1: Heating: Fan running on high speed even though room temp is below 60F. No major applications are running at that time expect Office 2011 and web surfing (NOT watching any video) and listening iTunes.
Issue 2: When I log-off from computer, the screen flickers and goes to lower resolution. Also the windows colors changed to different colors. After log-in, I went to System Preferences > Displays. The highest resolution is already selected (1680 x 1050) When I try to change to lower, it changes but still displays different window colors and changing suddenly.
    Troubleshooting Steps:
1.) Shutdown and Disconnected Power Cable (at that time battery is at 65%)
2.) Reconnected Power Cable and Power On the system
    3.) Display shows correctly.
    Unable to Resolve:
1.) Still fan is running on higher speed at low temp (below 60F with no major application running)
2.) Sometimes Display is not showing properly. It shows different color shades.
I scheduled support call with Apple Support and let's see what Apple can do...

I brought my first MacBook Pro 2011 on Day 1, so I can't return it since it won't come under 14 day return policy. I'm taking my Mac to Apple Store to fix all these issues. AppleInsider is also confirmed Disaplay Flicker issue on some of the models that they tested.

  • Macsafe 85w still not enough when running Heavy program on Macbook pro 2011 Quad Core

Is there any official announcement from apple on how macsafe 85w works & design flow or diagram..??
We know the magsafe 85w is not enough to run macbook pro quad core i7 and their family.. But there must be some reason why apple only allow maximum 85w only.. rite
I run this multiple test on my Macbook Pro early 2011, 17" 2.2 Quad core i7, 8G ram, to proving that the 85W is not enough.
-Im running this test on both OSX & win 7
-the battery capacity is 20% when i running this test
-the power adapter "macsafe" is plugin when i run this test
    1) macsafe 85w turn to green to stop charging when rendering HD movie in Final Cut pro 7 in OSX ( but then it will turn to orange to charged again after you cancel the render)
    2) macsafe 85w turn to green to stop charging when playing high graphic game such "Razor F1 2010" in Win 7 ( but then it will turn to orange to charged again after you quit the game)
    3) macsafe 85w turn to green to stop charging when editing AVCHD on Sony vegas Pro 10 in Win 7 (it will turn to orange to charged again after you quit the program)
    4) when the baterry reach 100%. then I run all of 3 heavy program above.. the baterry will drain slowly until 93% then it turn to orange to charging again.
(this will happen only when you run heavy program) 85w macsafe itself also not enough to run these program.. still need little battery support..
As i know this will happen to all macbook pro since before Quad core model. You must run heavy program, then you can determin this systoms..
Lastly, I really hope that all of this symtoms are the "macsafe work design", & not the macsafe fault... & really hope this symtoms will not damage the battery because regullaly charge on & off.
Maybe This is why new macbook pro design,, you cannot take out the battery... It still need the battery support also, while plugin..
    Thanks &
    Sorry broken english..

"Maybe This is why new macbook pro design,, you cannot take out the battery... It still need the battery support also, while plugin.."
Yes — but only when you're working the machine very hard. Most of the time, 85W is ample.
"But,, we need the official announce by apple regarding this issue"
No you don't. That's how it works. What good would an announcement from Apple do you?

  • Crysis 2 on MacBook Pro 2011 13,3" core i7?

Can i run Crysis 2 on my Macbook Pro in high definition? How many fps? I have a 2,7 ghz core i7 2011 Macbook Pro 2011.
Can I change the Intel 3000 HD? Can i Install the amd radeon hd 6000?
    Thanks in advance!!

No, sadly it is not practical or possible to install a replacment gpu in a macbook pro.  If you really need to play games, than you should purchace an imac or a 15" macbook pro with the upgraded gpu.

  • Core i7-2720QM on Macbook pro 2011: Turbo Boost doesn't work! It's possible?

I test my core speed with MacCPUID that show real time cpu frequency. I try it in normal condition and running extreme application. Everytime my cpu frequency is something like 2.199 - 2.200 but never more than 2.200 ghz.
So I have to think that Turbo bost is not active on macbook pro and all the things in apple website about this feature are false!
Is it possibile? Who knows something more about this?
    Greetings,
    Stefano

Yes, there is Turbo Boost active on all MacBook Pros. There is no real way to measure turbo boost unless you're in BootCamp, using Intel's Turbo Boost Monitor. The Intel website states that not all CPU measuring software will correctly display the turbo frequency because it's either not current, or doesn't support turbo boost. If you have BootCamp installed go ahead and search Intel Turbo Boost Widget. download, and install it, this will give you correct results. You can't really measure turbo in OS X.

  • Online video playback is severally laggy/choppy on my macbook pro 2011?

hey guys, got a bit of an issue here. I've been noticing some SEVERE lagging issues whilst viewing online (streaming) video, from various sites, including, novamov, youtube, and others. the videos rarely stop to buffer as i have a fast connection, but yet they still seem to lag wildly. what i mean by this, is the sound will continue as normal, the the picture will freeze sometimes for a good 5 seconds or so before resuming, this is happening increasingly more and more..
i am running Mac OSX Lion (latest Update) on my:
    MacBook Pro
    17-inch, Early 2011
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
If it helps my hard drive space is:
    Macintosh HD
    Capacity: 664 GB
    Available: 179.79 GB
The browser i am using is the latest version of Safari, although i have tried firefox and chrome and i experience the same issue.
I have Sophos anti-virus installed and run regular scans on my system (all clear)
i really can't think of anything else which could be causing an issue here. I haven't installed any additional software for a while, not in the time frame since the error started to occur.
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video when my £3000+ computer handles heavy applications such as Final cut pro and Photoshop with ease...
i MUST be missing something here,
I really would appreciate any help i can get here.
thankyou very much for your time

    Hey Carolyn,
Worked a treat, de-jaggy video for first time in months!!! Only point of clarification, I manually deleted the Flash plug-in before I uninstalled Flash. Don't know if this was why it worked for me rather than others but hey ...

    Hi Ben...
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video
Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin required for most YouTube video.
Quit all open browsers. I'm using Safari as a test.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure and uninstall the current plugin first.
Then launch Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • Macbook Pro 2011 running very slowly after upgrading to Mavericks

I am in deep trouble with my wife so any help would be gratefully accepted.
Shortly after Mavericks became available I upgraded my wife's Macbook Pro 2011 to use the new OS version. Ever since then, the Macbook has been running noticeably slowly. In particular, Mail is almost unusuable taking minutes to open and showing long delays while moving around messages, folders, etc. Excel and Word are also much slower, Safari is slow, in fact just about everything is grinding.
Any ideas on what can I can do to improve things and apease my unhappy wife would be much appreciated.
I have attached the Etrecheck output FYI
    Thanks

  • Can i run adobe design premium 4 in macbook pro 2011?

I just bought a macbook pro 2011 2.2 GHz, quad core i7 to work with my adobe design premium 4. I heard many software like final cut studio and adobe creative 5 are are not working well with mac os lion. I got really worry and want to return the macbook pro. But before returning the macbook pro, i need to hear from you. I google and many people had no problem running adobe cs3 and cs4 with mac os lion. I need your help!

Both Adobe software titles you reference are incorrect. Do you mean Adobe InDesgn 4? if so that has problems running in Lion. I don't know where you get your information about Final Cut pro from. You can always check that forum here:

I just bought a macbook pro 2011, 2.2 ghz quad core i7 to work with my adobe design premium 4. I heard many software have problems with mac os lion. I got so worry and want to return the macbook. Does anyone know if i can run adobe cs4 on this new macbook pro or should i return it? Thank for your responses.

i am running design premium CS4 on a Pro with Lion and have had no real problems. using DW, PS, ID, FL and BR without any issues.
NB: WHEN YOU INSTALL, BE SURE YOU NOMINATE A SUBFOLDER IN YOUR APPLICATIONS TO INSTALL TO, OR YOUR APPLICATIONS FOLDER WILL BE OVERTAKEN WITH CS4 ICONS.
apologies for the caps, but this is really important. I didn't do this and it resulted in the only problem i am having with the software, which is not a huge deal, only affecting AME as far as i can tell, though I can't figure out how to fix it, have asked on this forum without luck (so far!)
    hope this helps
