Processor requirements for Safari?

For my first foray into Apple Discussions, I am going to ask what is probably a very stupid question, but here goes...
After updating the software on my OLD iMac at work (to OS 10.4.7, Safari 2.0.4), Safari will not launch. I get one of those "Safari unexpectedly quit-other applications not affected" error msgs every time. The guys from our IT department took a look and told me that this version of Safari will not run on a computer as old as mine. (I have exactly the same stuff on my iBook G4 at home and it works great.) They downloaded Firefox and told me to use that. Is this for real? Does Safari have processor requirements above and beyond the OS? Everything else seems to be working OK. And if it really is true, can I uninstall the new Safari and install an older version?
Thanks!

Hi nildem, & welcome to apple discussions
Safari is bundled with os x 10.4.7, if the computer can handle the os it can handle Safari
Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.6 tech specs

•Macintosh computer with a PowerPC G3, G4 or G5 processor
•Built-in FireWire
•DVD drive for installation
•256MB of RAM
•3GB of available hard disk space (4GB if you install the developer tools)
Try a test account to see if safari works there.

  • Drives do not meet the requirements for Safari 4.0.5

I have an original Power MAc G5 with daul 2 GHz processor running 10.5.8. I am currently running Safari 4.0.3 and would like to upgrade to 4.0.5, but the installation package stated that none of my drives meet the requirements for installation. What are the requirements for installation, my startup drive has over 100GB of free space.

    Ok..
    Try repairing disk permissions.
Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • Processor Requirement for SBS2008

    Hi there!
A customer of mine is trying to install SBS2008 on a DL380e Gen8 server. Was reading thru the hardware requirements  from the Technet library and some questions came up.
The hardware requirements would have been written some ways back, most probably referring to processors that were available when the OS came out.  So when it says the minimum requirement is for a 2ghz processor, does it specifically mean a single-core
processor?  What would be the impact of today's multi-core processors?  For example, the DL380e Gen8 had a single E5-2403 quad-core processor running at 1.8ghz - will that still not meet the requirement and we will not be able to install SBS2008
    on it?
    Thanks for the help!

Thanks, Larry.  My customer was having doubts because of the 2Ghz requirement that they saw here - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc527594%28v=ws.10%29.aspx
I was assuring him that he may be looking at outdated requirements, and that the Xeon E5-2403 would be more than sufficient to run SBS2008.
He was even hoping someone from Microsoft will be able to shed light on that.

  • Processor requirements for PE8

Hi.  I ordered a new computer which will be delivered this week.  I bought PE8 to use on it so I could burn HD video from a Canon Vixia HFS10 camcorder.  I just noticed, though, that it says the system requirements for PE8 include a 3.0 GHz processor.  My processor is only a 2.66 GHz.  But it is an I7-920 quad core processor with 9 GB of RAM.  Anybody know if I am going to have problems burning blu-rays with this?  I am going to run Windows 7.  Thanks.

The processor speed listed in the minimum requirements is for a single core (Pentium) processor. Your quad core will likely runs several times faster than that and should be more than powerful enough to work with Premiere Elements.
The bigger issue is that you list 6 gigs of RAM, which seems to imply that you'll be using the 64-bit version of Windows 7. There you might run into problems. Premiere Elements is a 32-bit application, and some people are experiencing problems trying to interface with 64-bit drivers for it on Windows 7.

  • Mac processor required for PSE 8

Simple question for which I haven't found a straight answer:
Will PSE 8 run on a G5 with OSX 10.5.8?

No, sorry. If you look at the system requirements:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelmac/systemreqs/
    the very first one is:
    Multi-core Intel® processor
PSE 8 will not run on any PPC machine, which what your G5 has. PSE 6 should be fine, though.

  • Two clicks required for Safari window which is not currently the focus

This is really starting to annoy me - I have a 17" powerbook so I can display two webpages side by side. I click on a link in one page and... ...nothing happens. If this page was not the current focus, my first click just changes the focus - i then have to click again to go to the link. Many times i sit there waiting for the display to update, only to find that it is not going to because it requires another click... Is there any way to make Safari take action on the first click on a window not currently in focus?

I don't know of any way to allow this.
    Mail works the same way.
using mail & safari windows side by side does the same, as does anything(?) that involves switching applications.
It's just the links in safari that require one click to focus then one to activate - running two safari windows & clicking something in the toolbar or bookmarks bar on the 'other' window works just fine. As does clicking a 'button' within the page (like 'post message' on these boards, for example)
I can only suggest letting Apple know what you think at http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/

  • Don't meet requirements for safari beta?

I tried to download Safari 3 and was told I don't meet requirements though I have 10.4.9 and 27 gigs free space on my hard drive. Anyone else have this problem? I'm sad! I wanted to see it!

    Hi dobes918,
I just download it on my PC and macmini (1.5Ghz/512mb) and so far both are work for me.
    http://www.apple.com/safari/download/
Try to restart your macbook, run software updater, update anything that offered by software updater and re-download from link above.
    Good luck.
ps: repair your permission by open application folder > utilities > disk utility > repair permission everytime you install/remove application, or update your software and hardware.

  • Processor requirements for illustrator windows

i have a dell dimension 2100 w/512ram and an intel celeron processor. i didnt see it on the requirements list. will it work and if not can I upgrade it or replace it.

You did not mention which version of Illustrator you intend to run on your machine, but let's assume it's the latest -- version 13 (CS3).
If so, my advice to you is to buy a new PC.
Assuming you're running Windows XP or Vista, it is possible -- by a slim margin -- that Illustrator 13 will actually install and run on your machine. However, it will be an exercise in frustration.
The Celeron is just a feature-crippled Pentium, so it is, technically, a "compatible" processor. However, based on info I was able to dig up on the 2100, the fastest Pentium you can install is a 1GHz processor -- assuming you could even find a P3 processor.
At 512MB, you're already at your machine's maximum memory capacity, and that's woefully low for this kind of work, and especially for Illustrator.
My guess is that you're also working with a very slow hard drive that's running out of space.
Nope... don't even think about trying to upgrade your 2100. Donate it, whip out your credit card, and get a modern PC.

  • Uninstaller Required for Safari 5

After Steve Jobs speech I tried Safari 5 and everything went pear shaped on my Mac. I tried to 'get rid' of Safari 5 but it wont allow anything and wont allow me to reinstall Safari 4, So I now use Firefox but I want to use Safari 4.
A uninstaller is required from Apple to remove Safari 5 completely and allow installation of Safari 4.
    Who agrees?

I've had the same problem ever since installing Safari 5.
It's just dead in the water after the program "opens". Nothing comes on screen after the menu bar. Nothing responds .. no "New Window" .. nothing. And it's simply not possible to re-install Safari 4.5 .. I've certainly tried. So I've been forced to abandon Safari altogether. I've moved to Firefox 3.6.4 and also have also installed Google's new "Chrome" browser, which although still in Beta (5.0.375.70) .. is very impressive.
So, Apple people .. please ensure that your new software "updates" work across Mac OS versions other than your Most Recent OS .. "Safari 5" is the most recent problem symptomatic of the difficulties that can occur in the very real world of Macs in business!
Remember that we do discuss our Mac software problems with our associates .. it would be a shame if people saw that the faults we discover and report are left unresolved. It speaks to the matter of maintaining product quality across the board.
Please do not ignore this very real problem with Safari 5!

  • Processor Requirements for using Photoshop on a laptop

I am buying a laptop. There are inexpensive machines with the Celeron processor or the AMD-V series. These are both single core processors.
A salesman at a computer store, Microcenter, said that Windows 7 is written for dual core processors and if I tried to use a single core processor for applications like Photoshop it would become very slow.
Is he telling the truth? Also, he said that the AMD Ahtlon II processor runs hot. I had this problem years ago with AMD desktop processors. He said that the AMD Turion runs better.
Also, can I go with a standard graphics card, or can I just use what comes with the computer. I purchased a Presario CQ56-115DX but have not taken it out of the box.
The salesman was pushing me to upgrade to an Intel dual core chip.
    Thanks

There's an old saying:  Good / Fast / Cheap - pick any two.
Modern Windows depends on an unprecedented number of processes running simultaneously.  A multi-core processor is a good idea.

  • "You cannot install Safari on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."

I am trying to install Safari 5.05 for Leopard, but during the installation process, the error message above appears when selecting the volume to install it on.
Apparently the minimum OS requirement for Safari 5 on Mac is 10.5.8, which my Mac has.  My Mac's processor is a 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (the default for one of the Intel Macs that came out a few years ago), which should be good enough for Safari 5.  I am attempting to install via an admin account.  There is nothing in Apple Software Update relating to Safari (the current working version of Safari that my Mac has is 4.05).
    Any help please?

So, on that page I should click on the Download button to the right?  It just takes me to http://www.apple.com/safari/download/, where the "Safari 5.0.5 for Leopard" is what I initially tried, and is what resulted in the aforementioned error message during the installation process.  See below for screenshots of the installer error message and my Mac's details, respectively:
I also tried the Snow Leopard and Tiger versions of Safari just in case those worked, but obviously I didn't have the correct Mac version, so I couldn't even begin the installation process.

  • Where does the preference list for Safari reside

The Safari I use on my MBP 10 on this computer works like a charm (knock on wood) but on my MBP 07 it can not even remember how to open a local file when it loads and regardless of how many different thing I have tried it refuses to remember the preference I have set, so I'm suspecting that the preference are not being saved in the preference list, so I'm wondering where it is and is ut safe to edit or delete?

    First close Safari
    Home/Library/Preferences
    Look for
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
    Also:
Home/Library/Safari/ folder and remove the following two files:
    history.plist
    lastsession.plist
    And
Go to Home/Library/Caches/Metadata/Safari/ and remove the contents of that folder.
(These are just  webhistory files and are not required for Safari to run. However, similar to preference files, problems can arise if they have become corrupt.)
Locate the cookies.plist file that's located in the Home/Library/Cookies/ folder and remove it.
They will all be recreated next time you launch Safari.

  • Requirements for upgrading from LR3 to LR4

The processor requirements for LR4 reads "Multicore Intel processor with 64 bit support." The processor description in the iMac I bought in early 2009 reads "2.8 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo." Will my processor handle LR4?
    Thank you
    Jim B

As mentioned above the d/load will be the current release whereas the disk version will be 4.0 and need updating.
There are many differences between Lr3 and 4 though including catalogs (Lr3 catalogs will have a copy made and upgraded) and processing (a new process version) which can alter image appearance of existing files. So don't update the process version on existing files before you have experimented - I do it only when reviewing a file if I feel I can work it better with the new version, not updating the whole lot at once!!

  • Processor speed for HDV/Blu-ray in PE9

    Hello All
    First post for me.
I just purchased Premiere Elements 9. I loaded it on my current computer, where it limps along. (2 GHz processor). However, I am in the act of getting a new box.
My question is - I see the following spec for PE9:
2GHz or faster processor with SSE2 support; 3GHz processor required for HDV or Blu‐ray
But when I look at new computers, even many expensive gaming packages do not have as much as 3 GHz. The standard seems to be 2.8 GHz.Would anyone care to comment on this specification? I am new to video processing....maybe I shouldn't worry about HDV (I am mainly interested in making videos for youtube and to burn to DVD).
    Thanks much -
    Owl Boy

Thanks for the replies....Just what I was looking for.
[FWIW I tried asking the same question in elementsvillage, but am having all kinds of mechanical problems with that forum. This one works fine for me.]
I will leave this thread open the rest of the day in case more opinions surface.
    Thanks again.
