Processor speed after Standby Mode

I have the T400 with  Windows XP (32bit).  Dual P8600 2.4GHz processors & 3GB memory.  Fairly new computer so there is plenty of space.
I run a macro out of Excel every day.  When I run the program it takes about 15 to 20 mins and Excel struggles to move.  This is normal with this laptop and it is annoying.  I found that there have been times when the program runs fast as it should - fast as in 4 minutes.  Processing speed is clearly faster but all programs are the same.  I have also come to realize today that it runs faster after it comes out of Standby Mode.  If I shut down and then re-start the computer and then run the program out of Excel it takes 20 minutes.  If I start up, then go to standby then come out and run the program it runs in 4 minutes.
What would cause this? Is there some background process that stops after Standby that would allow the processors to perform as they should?
Thanks

is your CPU throttling down. Download HWinfo32 and check the cpu speed when the excel is running slow (the 20 minutes).
also are you running the laptop with the battery inserted? and do you have the latest thinkvantage power manager installed? what version of the bios firmware are you running?

  • MAX communication hangs after Standby Mode(with GPIB PCMCIA)

I have a IBM Laptop with MAX 2.2 and a GPIB PCMCIA Card installed. After booting the computer I can communicate with GPIB instruments without problems. After I get the Laptop out of a Standby Mode, MAX can not make any connection to GPIB devices; when I scan for Instruments it hangs as well.
The troubleshooting wizard tells me: one or more GPIB interfaces failed.
Does anyone have the same problems or solutions ?

On the NI-488.2 2.0 download page it is mentioned that that driver does not support standby mode. No such mention is made on the download page for NI-488.2 version 1.7 (which I need to use for my PCMCIA-GPIB interface), although the 1.7 release shows very much the same problem: After stand-by, communication with the GPIB port is no longer possible.
The Visual Basic example tool for preventing stand-by may help those users who are familiar with VB, but it does not help me.
Frankly - what I'd like to see is an improved NI-488.2 version that does support stand-by. Does NI consider providing such an upgrade/patch?

I had the same problem with a satellite A100. I did the following:
    1. Go to control panel
    2. In classic view select system
    3. go to tab Hardware
    4. Select device manager
    5. Open the "universal serial bus controllers" (via )
    6. Double click USB Root Hub
    7. select tab: "Power management"
    8. unselect allow the computer to turn off this device to save power

  • Fan Speed after standby

    Hi,
I control the CPU fan speed with the bios-settings (max. temperature 60°C, +- 5°C). This works fine as long as I don't use standby. As soon as the computer resumes from standby, the fan is always running at maximum speed, regardeless of the cpu temperature. The speed control doesn't work any more. Thus I have to use softwaretools (CoreCenter,...) to reduce the speed.
As I don't want to have this annoying piece of software running I am looking for a bios-only solution.
Anyone found a solution for this problem ? Seems to me as if it was a bug in the bios.
    Greetings from Vienna,
    Markus
    Config:
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    Athlon 64 3500
    Bios v1.5 (same with 1.4)
Sapphire Radeon 9600 graphics adapter, no fan
    1 GB memory
    1*160 GB Samsung HD
    1*120 Seagate HD
    1*80 GB Seagate HD
    Technisat SkyStar2 sat-receiver card

I have the same problem but the difference is that my fan speeds up the moment i boot my comp. Corecenter doesn't fix this! It displays 6200rpm ! Weird ! Coz the specs of the fan are 5200 if i remeber correctly !
I fix this problem by loading Windows Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) and then CoreCenter! The moment that CoreCenter Loads, the fan drops at normal speed and then from the Task Manager i kill CoreCenter and the fan remains at normal speed !
Of course I need a better solution than this, but can't find any ! I haven't updated the bios or any MoBo drivers !

  • Satellite Pro A300 - After standby the mouse stops working

    Hi all,
Really hope you can help me out wiht this problem as I believe I have tried anything I know and my next step is formating the whole computer again and still not knowing if it will work this time, as this is what I just did, when upgrading to win 7.
    I have 2 problems:
When computer goes on standby and I start it backup - the mouse stops working, unless i move it to another usb-port. I get a message aswell about usb can perform faster...
Another problem is a program freezing at this point aswell, this program is Oracle JDeveloper, do not know if this has any relevance??
I have tried updating EVERY driver from toshibas webpage- theese problems still occur...
    Please help!
    Would rather not format again...!

    Hi
Can you please tell us what Windows 7 version you have installed? I mean if you have 32bit or 64bit.
Is this right that you are using an external mouse?
Does the touchpad work after standby mode? If yes I think its something wrong with the external mouse maybe.
By the way: Make sure that you are using newest BIOS version. You can find it on the Toshiba page.
And regarding the Oracle question I think you should contact the Oracle support directly. ;)

  • Satellite L650-16W - Fan doesnt (re)start after standby

Hello i own a Satellite L650-16W and after standby-mode the fan doesnt start again. So the temperature increases untill a reboot is necessary. After the reboot the fan works correctly again. I own this notebook for about 4 month and at the beginning this problem didnt appear.
Ive tried to update the bios but it seems to be the actual version. And i dont find any options to put the fan manually on again. So maybe anybody has got the same problem or a solution.
    Thanks for your help.

Bios reflash is a a little bit tricky procedure and if it goes wrong you will get a black screen. Note, the warranty doesn't cover bios reflash failure. Go to the toshiba driver page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp and choose the right Bios for your model
If Bios version on toshiba driver page is the same with installed one yoyr lap, download it anyway and run it. Read carefully instructions how to reflash it:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=60
you may get a message while reflashing the current version is already installed....
Anyway, before all, I advise to restore the factory settings to be sure that isn't OS related issue.

  • Looking to buy new MacBook Pro for editing with Premiere/After Effects, but wondering about trade-off between Processor Speed and Graphics Card

I'm a professional video editor (using Premiere and After Effects) looking to buy a new MacBook Pro and am deciding between two models. The slightly older model has a 2.8GHZ i7 (3rd generation) Quad Core processor with a 1GB SDRAM of NVIDIA GE FORCE GT 650M Graphics Card. Then newer model has a 2.3GHZ i7 (4th generation) Quad Core preocessor with 2GB SDRAM of NVIDIA GE FORCE 750M/Intel Iris Pro Graphics Card.
Which makes the most difference (processor speed vs. graphics card) with editing with Premiere and After Effects?
Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

You recon? If he get's the 17", he would have up to 8x more RAM, 4 x more GPU,, and  a bit faster CPU;.
    2. Be aware of the advantages and disadvantages of extra RAM. Loading up the slot will make juggling multiple applications easier, like Photoshop, VLC, and Safari. However, more than 4gigs of RAM will make loading your MBP on startup twice as slow - at least a minute, probably longer. That's why a MBP user with extra RAM should sleep their machine nearly always when not in use, rather than powering off.
I did not know this, I just upgraded from 4gb to 8gb the other day. Have not noticed it being slower, but I don't often shut it down. It's nice to not even have to bother with ifreemem.
    3. Additional storage and RAM will maximize the basic capabilities of your MBP, but you won't be able to make a 2.3ghz machine any faster than it already is.
    SSD
    4. I still feel that your iMac will be faster than your prospective MBP. The only way to dramatically increase the speed would be the installation of a SSD drive (like the lauded OWC series). But they're not cheap.
I don't want to rain on your parade, but want you to get a more realistic idea of your performance.
I chose a macbook pro, 17" of cause. I use it for gaming. Yes a iMac is better for gaming. But, it's nice to be able to move around. Set up a man cave in the lounge 1 week, or in the bedroom, the next. But you fork out a lot more dosh for that luxury. And yes, not as much power as Poikkeus has said.

  • After Mavericks Update Arris Modem now going to standby mode when iMac sleeps

After installing Mavericks on iMac, whenever the iMac (connected wirelessly to the network with Airport Extreme 5th Gen) goes to sleep it is causing our modem to enter standby mode which limits internet access to all devices on the wireless network even when they are actively requesting data from the internet. As soon as the iMac is woken up the modem comes back out of sleep/standby mode and everything works fine. The modem is connected directly to the Airport Extreme WAN port and all devices just use wireless internet. The only resolution I've found is stopping the iMac from entering sleep mode in Energy Settings but this is not a long term solution. Anyone else having this issue?
The modem we have is an Arris TM722G.
    Thanks in advance.
I've also tried resetting PRAM, creating a new network location, releasing and renewing IP.

If you can get the computer to start in Recovery, then access OS X Utilities,
an attempt could be made to Repair Disk using the Disk Utility there...
Several instances of an upgrade leading to issues in Mac OS X was due
to some previous condition in the computer, or problem in the hard drive,
or maybe insufficient or low-quality RAM installed; among others, before
the last OS X upgrade was installed. And then the extra effort of processing
a new OS on top of other bits, can cause the computer to act up or fail.
What was the previous OS X version? How old is the iMac...?
Did you upgrade from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Mavericks 10.9.2?

There may be a hardware problem behind the issues your computer

  • After Updating the iOS 7.04 on my iPhone 4s drain battery quickly on standby mode & also doesn't respond volume up button, why?

After Updating the iOS 7.04 on my iPhone 4S drain battery quickly even on standby mode & also doesn't respond volume up button, why?

My battery problem woes continues to persist.  Yesterday, I had about 85-90% battery life in the morning.  A couple hours later when I looked at the phone it was down to 65%.  At that point, I shut off wi-fi, bluetooth, and background app refresh.  I received one call shortly after that.  The call lasted about two minutes.  My battery was now down to 40%.  Another hour later, down to 16%!  Here's the kicker:  I plugged in the phone to a charger and it jumped to 65% in a matter of minutes.  I unplugged the phone and within a couple of hours it was back down to around 30%.  I plugged it in again and within 10 minutes it was up to 75%.
At first glance it looks very much like a hardware issue.  However, I never had this problem until I upgraded to 7.0.4.  Also, the above battery roller coaster ride isn't a constant.  That is, it seems that only sometimes this happens.  So...I'm thinking it's either an app running in the background eating up juice (though I have Background App Referesh turned off) or the iOS is buggy.

There are many possible reasons for that.
Most likely a corrupted cookie or cache file for that site may be responsible.
On the Safari menu bar got to Safari -> Empty Cache
Then go to Safari -> Preferences and click on the 3rd symbol from right.

  • Power manager crashes after returning from standby mode.

I have a T400 2767 WU6 running Windows 7 Pro-64bit.. After returning from standby mode, power manager crashes (version 3). All the software installed is supposed to be compatible with win7 pro 64bit.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does this issue appear from the beginning?
Possibly the OS was installed several time ago and now the registry entries are corrupt.
Therefore the system busy egg timer could appear.
Im not 100% sure it will help but possibly you should reinstall the whole OS
On the fresh installed OS all should works much faster

My newly bought iPhone 5 was on iOS 6.0.1
everything worked fine and i had no wifi nor battery issues at all until I upgraded it to iOS 6.0.
i noticed some battery drainage even when i'm not using my phone at all it still drains 1-2% on standby mode with no wifi nor 3G at all in an hour,
If i use wifi it'll drain 4-5% in a few minutes time, more serious case when i use 3G, it's literally draining in EVERY SINGLE MINUTE.

Per designed, Wi-Fi will disconnect in sleep mode to save battery.
If you want Wi-Fi to stay connected even in sleep mode, plugin to a wall power socket.
No it's not "per design". It's not supposed to disconnect when locked/in sleep mode. The whole concept of having live notifications to work when your phone is locked is the standard for smartphones. Having this feature only accessable when pluging/charging the phone is rediculous and counter-productive. But it's good to know that I'm not the only one who has this issue. I hope all our issues are solved swiftly, good luck to you all

  • CoreCenter and Standby Mode

I have just standby to use Standby Mode, having read the recent article on electricity consumption in PCPro magazine (UK). However after the machine comes out of standby, CoreCenter v1.7.3(set to start on boot and run in the system tray) starts giving an alarm (much like a car alarm siren) ; the only way to stop this is to close CoreCenter and then reopen it when it is fine and no longer gives an alarm. I guess it is confused and thinks there is fan failure or something similar. Does anybody have CoreCenter and Standby running together?Ho do I work out what is causing the alarm?  I have CoolnQuiet enabled in the BIOS, if I do not run CoreCenter will CoolnQuiet still run and what about control of my Zalman 7000 Processor Fan?
    many thanks

Dale the fans will still change speed according to the temps but it will be a smaller change and not as quick. CoreCenter does allow better fan control As does Speedfan, MBM and others. Keep in mind that many of us feel CoreCenter is a real turd and do not run it at all so we know it is not needed. You may like it and as such we won't tell you not to run it. However it does not change the fact that it is not needed to make C&Q work.
I'm seeing very little in the way of fan-control on my system with or without corecenter. Last night the CPU temp went from 25C (as measured by PCWiz2005, which matches what corecenter shows) to 42C under 100% load generated by prime95. Fan speed from 25C to 42C ranged from 2343rpm to 2410rpm. Max rpm on startup is around 3300rpm from memory. Is 42C too cool for the corecell chip to consider ramping up the revs on the fan?
On startup the cpu fan is locked at 3300rpm. I have to run corecenter to get it to drop back to 2300rpm.
I'm not seeing anything like reasonable fan-control on this system.
