ProDesk 600 create recovery disks - use usb instead

We have just received some HP Prodesk 600 desktop pcs - K1t26AW#ABA - running Win 7 Pro 64 bit - and would like to make system recovery media.  The HP program installed has only the option to make recovery disks and requires dual layer DVD's to be used.   I have had  other HP products that allow recovery media to be created either on DVD or usb.  Is there any software fix or utility to allow us to create the ProDesk 600 recovery media on USB instead of dual layer DVD's?  We have no dual layer DVD's and have no other use for them so we don't want to order a pack and have most of it laying around unused.  Thanks

You can clone the partition to an external usb disk with a cloning utility program. It won't have any effect on the one time usb or DVD recovery media creation limitation.
If I may give a word of advice:
Create a recovery usb flash drive. It is reliable, fast and durable.

  • Can I create recovery disks using my laptop HD as external drive?

My Thinkpad T420 hard drive crashed in a really bad way. I can't load windows (7) and windows repair says it can't help me. I removed my hard drive and put it in a usb enclosure and connected it to a different pc. I can see the recovery folder/drive and my data drive as two different drives in "my computer". What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a way I can create the Win7 recovery discs this way, through what is now an external hard drive. The backup PC I'm using is XP, but I can get another Win7 PC if that makes a difference.
    TIA!

    @Phil18...
I'll offer a few more thoughts.
The recovery partition you're seeing is meant to be accessed by software in the OS partition to enable creation of a Recovery DVD set, or, through a boot-interruption sequence to enable a direct-to-disk recovery of the OS partition. Since you mention that the drive has "crashed in a really bad way", I'm presuming that it doesn't boot any longer.
In this case, my recommendation to you is to contact Service and discuss obtaining a Factory Recovery Disk Set. There may or may not be a charge for this. Contact information is below. Once you have the set, along with a new drive, you'll easily be able to build up the new drive to the factory out-of-box state.

  • Creating Recovery Media using USB Flash Drive for Windows 8.1

I followed all the instructions to create a USB Flash Drive Recovery Media (insert 16 GB USB Flash Drive or >) and it said it will be created now (after I clicked on Create), however the next screen said to insert > 7.5 GB flash drive, then it said it was cancelled.  I was attempting to use a San Disk Flash Drive and I am wondering if it is because it has some time of application on it.  I was under the understanding that it would just "delete/erase" this (format it) and then create it, but it wouldn't.  Any suggestions?

In Windows 8, one can create a "recovery drive" (called a System Repair Disc in Windows 7) that does not contain the recovery partition. (When you install Windows 8 yourself, there is no recovery partition.) It contains just the recovery environment.

  • Creating recovery disc using DVD vs using USB

I wanted to upgrade to SSD
a crucial m500 to be exact.
    I'm using windows 8
    Lenovo T430
But an attempt to create recovery media, I was told I needed a usb of at least 16gb before continuing.
I personally do not have a spare 16gb thumbdrive lying around
address : create a recovery drive, The screen which says "the drive must be able to hold 16gb, and everything on the drive will be deleted.
and I find it such a waste to use a hard disk to use it as a recovery media considering the fact that all data on it has to be erased and I cant really use it for other purpose
so I  google in attempt to try and create recovery drive using dvd disc
    recdisc.exe
my question is that would I be able to restore the same original settings and applications as when I bought it when using the recdisc.exe method??
will all the default Lenovo applications be still present??

If it's like most of the recent ones I have seen it would normally require 3 regular DVD disks.  Recovery 1, Recovery 2, and Drivers and Applications Disk 2.  If you use Dual Layer it will put Recovery 1 and Recovery 2 on one DL disk and the Drivers and Applications on Disk 2, but it should give you the option of recording it to a standard DVD.  You can determine how many regular disks it would take by selecting the Regular Disk option prior to creating the disks and it shoud tell you 3.
I'm betting that when you check the first disk you will find that it has about 6.5 to 7gb of data on it and the drivers disk has about 3gig, more than what would fit on a single D/L dsk.  I know that my L305-S5933 is like that and I can't imagine that your's would be that much different.
Addendum:  I just checked my 3 disks and they are as follows
    Recovery Disk 1 - 4.3 GB
    Recovery Disk 2 - 2.77 GB
Drivers and Applications Disk 3 - 2.1 GB
That totals 9.17 GB more than the capacity of a single D/L disk.
Plus I believe that Chris hit the nail on the head of their wanting to keep the actual Recovery Disk(s) seperate from the Drivers & Applications disk.

  • Cannot create recovery disk after update to Win 8.1 on G580

    Friends
I have a Lenovo G580 that came with Win 8.0 preinstalled. I upgraded it to Win 8.1 over the Internet.
When I try to run the "Create recovery disk" I get the error that states that "We cannot create a recovery drive for this PC. Some required files are missing..."
I found out that the winre.wim file that is supposed to be in the C:\Windows\System32\Recovery folder is not there. I cannot locate it anywhere on the C or D drives either. I believe there is a copy on one or more of the recovery partitions but I do not know how to get that file from those partitons.
I am confused as to why there are seven partitions on that one drive:
    1 Recovery partition 1000 MB
2 EFI system partition 260 MB
    3 OEM partition 1000 MB
    4. Recovery partition 350 MB
    5. Recovery partition 20 GB
    6. Lenovo D: 25 GB
    7. Windows 8 C: 250 GB
Can someone help me and give me some instructions on how I can fix the system to find the winre.wim file?
    Thanks for any good input.
    Calle

  • How to create recovery disks for Lenovo H530s with WIndows 8.1

    Hello there,
    I just purchased a Lenovo Hf30s type 10131 with Windows 8.1, mini tower: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/lenovo-h-series-desktops/lenovo-h5...
I like to create recovery disks, but  the already installed program OneKey Recovery does not have the option of recovery disks, it allows only larger media such as USB stick and hard disks.
Here to I have 2 questions:
    1. Is there a way to create a recovery disks that will create the original factory settings with 5 partitions?
    2. Does any one knows if the recovery siskd sold by Lenovo (for Netherlands they cost between 23 and 38 Euro) would do the job by creating the factory settings with 5 partitions?
My goal is to reformat the hard disk and aprtitionig it the way I need it, but in case of anything, I would like to be able to go back to the original facttory state of the unit, especially if I have a harddisk failure and neer to replace the hard didks.
Thank you in advance and I wish you a very pleasant and successful day.

  • Creating Recovery Disks when Windows 7 won't Boot

My sister's hard drive is in imminent failure on HP G60-535DX Notebook. Windows 7 won't boot. I need to make recovery disks. I have been able to back up info going into System Recovery Manager, but I don't see an option to create recovery disks to install the system on a replacement hard drive. Is it possible to create the disks or order them?

  • Recovery Disk or USB

    hi,
I need a recovery disk or usb for my HP Pavilion 15-n006AX laptop.
Kindly send me threads of where is it available, if any online sites or hp centers  have it.

    Dear Customer,
Welcome to HP Support Forum and we are glad to assist you.
It looks like you are not able to Boot into the Operating System on your Notebook.
We will surely assist you with this.
Originally the Notebook will have the Recovery Partition and that would give you an option to create a set of Recovery Disk. If you have not created those Recovery Disks when the Notebook was in working condition we cannot do that right now
As of now if you need to recover your Notebook with the new Operating System you can check if the Recovery Partition
is in a working condition or not, If yes you can easily recover/restore your Notebook
    If Recovery Partition is corrupted
You need to call HP Technical Support and request for a set of Recovery Disks , So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
    OR
You need call up Microsoft and purchase an Operating System with the License Key, So you can recover/restore your Notebook at the earliest
I strongly recommend you to Contact HP Technical Support over the Phone for further assistance without any delay
Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

  • How to create recovery disk on HP envy dv6 7258nr notebook pc - window 8

I m trying to create recovery disk from recovery drive which is created by hp while purchasing the laptop, while taking back up from recovery manager, Recovery Manager says   (Recovery Partition has been removed - Recovery Media creation option is no longer available) , but as per my knowledge i did not took back up of recovery drive. So what should i do to take back up of my recovery drive to **bleep**.

Based on what you have stated, it appears that you or someone else with access to your notebook deleted the recovery partition. Without the recovery partition on the hard disk you can't make recovery media.
Your best option at this point would be to purchase a recovery disk set from HP or an HP Partner.

  • HT4848 Error creating recovery disk in Disk Assist

I've carefully followed all instruction in this post: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4848, but I am having an error when creating the recovery disk.
The recovery Disk Assist starts creating it, but stops early on. The message I get is titled "Conclusion," and it says "The recovery drive wasn't created. There was an error creating recovery disk."
Can anyone help me with this? I followed all the steps in the post above and I also created the partition on the external drive.
I really need to wipe out my computer and make it appear "as new" because I am selling it. Any help would be great!
    Thanks!

Same happened to me.  This makes absolutely no sense, but I just kept trying and trying then it finally worked.  For me, it hasn't been worth the bother.  These restore DVDs don't work like the ones I made for an Acer laptop, for example.  On my Acer, I repartitioned, reformatted my drive and was easily able to restore my computer before I sold it.  I've been going nuts trying to restore my computer after a clean install of Windows 7.  Still can't get it to work.

  • Do user-created recovery disks work with replacement HDD of different capacity?

The original Seagate 250GB SATA HDD in my Pavilion G60-214EM notebook has completely failed (BIOS and other Windows machines cannot even see it). I replaced it with a Samsung 160GB SATA HDD but Recovery Manager on my user-created (DVD-R) recovery disk consistently fails at 2% of "Reformatting  the Windows partition of your hard disk drive". If I look at the resulting partitions from another machine I see a 10.61 GB NTFS 'RECOVERY' partition, an empty active primary NTFS partition of 37.12 GB and 101.31 GB still unallocated.
Should the user-created recovery disks work if the replacement disk drive is smaller capacity than the original?
Should they work with a larger capacity replacement drive?
If not, can HP provide recovery disks that will work with a different capacity HDD?
    Thanks,
    --A

Hi, I am the same predicament as you are From my experience thus far, the replacement disk drive space needs to be bigger or equal to the original HD space. (e.g.. I had a 640 gb OEM HD, I cannot install or factory reset the new 500 gb WD HD because it says its too small...)
As for question 2, I am going to try to get a 1TB hard drive, though I don't know due to the prices and such. Will post back if I do.
Question 3: I do not know, someone else may be more knowledgeable:/
    Hope this helps!
