Product Category Hierarchy

Dear All,
i'm playing with Product Category Hierarchy in SRM 5.0. The Scenario i use is Extended Classic and in backend system we do not want to manage any Category Hierarchy. I created my SRM own Hierarchy starting from Product Category imported from back-end system. I have imported product category at first level and created 'stand alone' product category at subordinate levels. Unfortunatly what i want to have is the last level of my 'stand alone' Hierarchy related with back-end Product Category and not the root. I'd like to know if in your opinion we need to use the related Badi to re-map 'Stand alone' catagory to back-end's catagory or is possible to manage this mapping without the badi.

I have similar requirement. I want to assign the backend pdt category to pdt category created locally in SRM.How can this be done?
Scenario -> Extended classic in SRM 5.0
1) Is it posible to do the assignment during the intial load? How abt using BBP_PRODCAT_HIER?
2) Is it posible to assign the already replicated pdt. categories to locally created pdt. category in SRM?
Please provide inputs on these...

Product Category Hierarchy - SRM

I have doubts on Product Category hierarchy....
1) As far as i understand whenever we replicate the material from Backend R/3 there is a product hiearachy created and assigned automatically. However, we also have the option of creating local hiearachies.
So, what i did was for the same product category i assigned two hierarchies. One the standard R3MATCLASS and other which i created manually in SRM. Then i assigned the two hierarchies while creating the material manually in SRM. However, i am not able to get the significance of this? Why has SAP provided this provision of having multiple hieararchies?
2) I read from the help portal in SAP that Product Hierarchy helps in determining the source of supply. I am not able to understand how that is possible. I have searched for documentation all around but could not find any?
3) In one of the forums i saw that one consultant activated the product hiearachy, then to his surprise the automatic sourcing configuration which he had done has not worked due to activation of hierarchies
Has anyone worked indepth in this field. Any inputs is greatly welcome as i am doing some indepth work on this

3) Might be due to some bug (some OSS note is missing here).

Is any one has experienced in Creating product category hierarchy in SRM7.0?
Also how we can replicate the material group hierarchy from ECC to SRM7.0?

How are you?
I´ve seen some scenarios where clients have product category maintained in R/3 (SPRO / Logistics - General / Material master / Settings for key fields / Define Material groups).
You can use LSMW to create product categories.
Then you have to replicate those categories / Material groups to SRM. You can do this by Midleware (transaction R3AS). You can see hierarchys in srm at transaction comm_hierarchy.

We have classic scenario in place and the materials will get replicated from R/3.
We want to have UNSPSC Product Hierarchy. Could any one pls let me know what are all the config settings needs to be done?

I'm not sure I follow your question. Are your Product Categories in the back-end system UNSPSC? If so, then replication will bring them over. Or are you trying to map catalog UNSPSC codes to your product categories?

Window freezes when Product category selected via match-code (search help)

Hello Experts,
I am using SRM 7.0 Extended Classic Scenario.
I maintained a product category hierarchy in the SRM environment.
I maintained the GL Accounts related, the tax determination, the source system etc.
I did all this customizing in a Development environment where everything was working fine.
Now I just transported all this to a Quality environment.
And in the Quality I am facing the following issue :
If I select a product category via the match-code (search help), after the category is selected, the window freezes.
I have to shut it down manually using the Windows Close button.
However, when I type the category number, everything works fine.
Do you have any idea what could be causing this issue, and how to fix it ?

We have the exact same issue in SRM 7.0 Extented Classic Scenario. This was working fine before we installed the latest support package 11. Which support package do you have?
The same problem occurs with every drop down menu (search help) in EBP. For example when creating a new shopping cart, if I try to add approver, the same thing happens. After clicking 'Approval Process: Display / Edit Agents' > 'Add Approver', the window freezes. Same thing happens with IE8 and Firefox 3.6.13. Could you also try the same?
Could it be a new bug in SP11?

Product category not available error in SAP CRM 7.0

hi Gurus,
while i try creating opportunity transaction, there under product tab when i enter product category(as we maintian product category and not product) and pass on other data and finally press enter ..i get error "product category "3lAA" not available" same for other category. even when i try F4 help only very few categories it shows, not all.
but then i went back and checked for category and hierarchy in CRM system ..it is showing all there and it is downloaded form R/3 system.
Can you please tell me what all places i can check..? or what is missing ?

Hi,
I believe all the categories which you are viewing currently in the pop up are from a single hierarchy ( Most probably R3PRODHIER). And the categories which you are looking for is probably from a different hierarchy ( R3MATCLAS, R3PRODSTYP etc.).
By standard, for sales applications only R3PRODHIER is supported. Please have a look at the IMG path Cross-Application Component->SAP Product-> Product Category->Assign Category Hierarchy to Applications, where you can verify this. If you are so particular about using categories from a different hierarchy you might need to change this setting - I am not sure about other implications that can cause if you change that like downloading from R/3 etc.

Product Category Level 5 -- Which Product it belong

HELLO i AM USING THE CRM_PROD I see the hierarchy has product category
which I can find in Table COMM_CATEGORY and then relate to product
but under each product category i see accessories in hierarchy which are different levels like in table SMOT179 so how do i Marry this level 5 to find which product it belong to
can u tell me the table name in CRM Where i can go look the level 5 prod category and see what is the product

Product category duplicate

Dear Gurus,
We are on SRM7.0/ECC6.0 (Ext classic)
I have a peculiar problem. Our SRM system was earlier connected to one ECC system (say ECC100), later we changed the ECC system to ECC200.
Now everything is working fine. However when user directly plugs the product category while creating a limit SC, the system throws a prompt saying 2 product categories with same number exist. This is because we had done middleware settings again for ECC200 and COMM_HIERARCHY has 2 hierarchies.
But I have restricted the product categories in extended attributes to the current ECC system. Also when we do a search for prod categories the system shows only hierarchy for new system. Only when user directly plugs in the category number, does he get that prompt.
Please suggest. Will give full marks.

It happens because you have product categories from ECC100 also in your system.
Did you also create any documents using ECC100 categories ?
If No, you can try this :
Use program COM_HIERARCHY_DELETE_SINGLE and delete ECC100 hierarchy (along with categories).

Product category not visible in search help

Hello,
We have performed changes to product categories in Dev system and moved it to Q. I can see all the cateogories correctly in COMM_HIERARCHY, but when I try to add them in the org structure to users, I can't find them.
Any idea, why this could happen?

via extended attribute? for eg. product category?
how did you move from dev to Quality ?
i believe you can create(load) hierarchy in quality which you might have done in development?

Product category consistency

Hi all,
we have SRM6.0 implemented and it's integrated with a non-Sap system. The product and product category master data are sent from this non-Sap system to SRM using PI. We're facing the following situation:
Item 162999 was originaly created with product category MMRO_ELEC. Contract 4200000048 was created for this item.
Later in the process, item 162999 was re-categorized in the non-Sap system and its product category was changed from MMRO_ELEC to MMRO_WELD. The item in SRM was successfuly updated. However, contract 4200000048 was impacted and it's not possible to do any change in it, because the system triggers the error message "Product does not belong to product category MMRO_ELEC".
I'd like to know if there's a way to update the documents in SRM or if any other solution is possible.

Product Category conflict for Quota Planning in Pipeline Performance

Hello Experts,
When I select a product to maintain sales volume by product in quota planning I am getting an error "Product XXXX is not assigned to sales product hierarchy R3PRODHIER"
The values maintained in Hierarchy assingment for applications are
IMG>CAC>Product>product category>Assign Hierarchy to applications
For Sales---> R3PRODHIER
purchasing-->R3MATCLASS
pRODUCT---> R3PRODSTYP
all the products are created under r3prodstyp hierarchy and when i change the hierarchy for sales from r3prodhier to r3prodstyp system is allowing me to maintain sales volumes for that product.
I could able to create all transactions in web ui with the same standard settings (sales -->r3prodhier)
Any solution???

As I mentioned all the products are created under categories that are created under r3prodstyp hierarchy only.
The hierarchy assigned to sales application is r3prodhier which is causing problem for searching the products in PPM.
If i enter the product id manually, as it is not created under r3prodhier, it is throwing the error " the xxx product is not assinged to the hierarchy r3prodhier"
When we create any sales transaction in web Ui , system is not throwing any hierarchy error.
why it is for PPM??
When I debug the respective Function module, the code is maintained to fetch the hierarchy assigned to the sales application.
I am just wondering why this has been made mandatory in PPM product search option in quota maintenance.

Issue in Product Category regd Set Types

Hi,
I am customizing Product Category ( for CRM 5.0 standalone) for Material using Building Block guides. I have created root hierarchy and category as described. Now I want to create category for Sales products using the root category. While creating this category the BB guide states following customization steps
Basic Data on Category
Product Type Material
Product / Object Assignment Possible
Product / Object Maintenance: Control Fields
Can Maintain Documents (Click this)
Can Maint. Conditions (click this)
But in my case I am not able to see following in Product / Object Maintenance: Control Fields section (following 2 controls)
Can Maintain Documents
Can Maint. Conditions
Because of this I am not able to get Set types COMM_PR_UNIT, COMM_PR_LGTEXT1, and COMM_PR_SHTEXT
Pl provide guidance and assist this is quite urgent.

1. You have created a hierarchy...
2. you have cretad a root category...say CRM_PROD
3. check whether you have created a sub category under the root category.
 to do that... Please click on CRM_PROD.. right click and create category..
then we can see the
Can Maintain Documents
Can Maint. Conditions

Unit of measure issue in Product Category Units Quota Planning

Hi experts,
My client needs to maintain quota for salespersons based on R/3 product hierarchy level. (1000 kg of Product Hierarchy Level 01234 per month, 2000 KG of Product Hierarchy Level 56789 per month, vs.). R3PRODHIER is the category assigned to Sales application.
So in Quota Planning, sub-assignment block Product Category Units, I want to maintain quotas. I press Add button, mark the Hierarchy level I'd like to plan quota to, and press Choose button, but "Unit of Measure" field does not fill up. Surprisingly, in the dropdown list, there is not an option which I can select (i.e. 'KG'). The list is empty, even after I fill Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 values. So, I am not able to use the quota planning functionality.
Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it?

I see exactly one year ago (almost to the minute) you posted this solution.
I am having exactly the same issue as you had. I also assumed the problem lay in ECC with unit of measure having to be defined at that same level.
I have asked our SD team about this and they are not maintaining units of measure at higher levels of the hierarchy, only on the product itself.
Our units of measure will be EA, TO, KG
So how do I get around this? I don't completely understand what you have explained in your solution.

I found one bapi(BAPI_CRM_PRODUCT_GETLIST) to get product.But we should give the product category as import field. But i need with out any input should generate all product details. These bapi we will use in crm to create Opportunity.

Help with product category assignment please

Hi experts,
I need to do a modificacion in my R3 downloaded products to CRM. Because a
product catalog fulfitment, I need to modify the assigned product hierarchy
in CRM but I don't know where can I do it this mapping between an R3 product
hierarchy and CRM product hierarchy.
I explain, if product A belongs in R3 to product category A, I need to modify
this assignment in CRM, for exmaple, product A in CRM will belong to product category
B.
Modifications/creations on product master are only downloaded to CRM, never upload
from CRM to R3.
Any help in this issue please? Is possible to get a behaviour like this?

Hi Javier,
You can always do a RFC data upload of the changed product from CRM to R/3. I guess you do know how to trigger a OLTP data transfer in product master maintenance transaction COMMPR01.
