Okay, total newbie, here - put on your "patience" fez, toque, or beanie!
I'm a bit overwhelmed by the website - I keep getting bounced around from one product to another, then to a product collection, and then to online cloud options, etc. I miss the good ol' days when I could go buy and install software from a CD.
I currently own no Adobe products, so I'm looking for the right "starter pack." I want to do some photography work (a new hobby), which I define as improving the photos I take as well as playing around with them in an artistic way. I like doing stuff like turning photos into ink drawings, or moving objects into (and taking them out of) photos.
My guess is somehow I need to buy a "basic" Adobe Photoshop, although I'm honestly having a hard time figuring out how to find that - seems like they want us ot basically "rent" the program on a month-to-month basis. Am I missing something, here?
I am unsure if I need Lightroom, but am happy to get it if it makes things easier or opens up more fun options for me (not worried about the cost of these things, BTW.)
What I am trying to avoid is buying something I do not need, or purchasing it in a way that won't work for me in the long run (i.e., is Creative Cloud the way to go?).
Oh, and I'm an educator, and I'm aware of the pricing options on that side of the house.

The current method of getting Photoshop is on a monthly payment scheme through the Creative Cloud (as I think you have worked out).
Most of what you describe wanting to do can be done in Photoshop Elements (which you can buy outright rather than renting it).
I would suggest trying the trial version of Elements before jumping in.
BTW I resisted the move to Creative Cloud for a while - not wanting to "rent" the software. I finally jumped onboard when Adobe had a special offer ($9.99 pm for Photoshop and Lightroom). I took the attitude that I could rent the software for a long time before paying more than the standalone price for Photoshop.
My understanding is that you can buy a licence for CS6 at the moment, but don't expect upgrades.

Rh10 - HTML Help - linking to pdf shows when generate CHM and 'view results' but not when double-click on CHM in project folder or in product help

I have several PDFs in Baggage Files that are linked to topics in the Table of Contents. When I generate the CHM file and 'View Results' I am able to pull up/access the PDFs with no problem. When I go into the project folder and just double-click on the CHM file, I cannot pull up/access any of the PDFs nor can I access them in the product help. Any ideas? Is a setting "off" somewhere in my project?
I am using RoboHelp 10.

Well, first off, even though it would be WebHelp, it would be inside a CHM container. So for all intents and purposes it would be a CHM file. But having said that, I'm not sure there is a way to merge these hybrid types of CHM files.
If your statement about Adobe fixing the issue is meaning that they can either remove the Print icon from the CHM Viewer, I wouldn't hold my breath because as I said, that's in Microsoft's lap and they haven't updated the CHM viewer in a long while. Doubtful they ever will.
The only hope would then be for Adobe to update the code used for the Mini TOC. The only way that will happen is if enough folks submit this as a bug via the following link:

Until that would happen, your likely best bet is to simply avoid using the Mini-TOC feature or just insert a warning that if the topic is printed, it will cause issues. Or, you could use bookmarks and links to establish your own verision of a "Mini-TOC"

To analyze Lync issues I have installed these applications in my windows 7 x64 laptop
1) network monitor 3.4
2)Lync network monitor parser
3)nmdecrypt2.3
4)network monitor parser3.4
Installtion got completed successfully but when I try to start capture I get this error everytime.......
"None of the network adapters are bound to the Netmon driver.If you have just installed, you may need to log out and log back in order to obtain the proper rights to capture. Please refer to the product help for more information"
I read many technet articles and other blogs but that didn't solve this issue. I tried things like
A) Run as administrator
B) nmconfig /install in cmd
So could you please help me how I can fix this issue?

WaveStudio 7.12 (and/or Audio Pack for MP3 Support) product Help files

WaveStudio 7.2 product Help files (CTWAVE32.CHM) need to be revised to incorporate MP3 support, for those customers (like me) who have purchased the Audio Pack app for MP3 Support.

Am I supposed to?just use the old WaveStudio 5.00.2 Help files (CTWave32.hlp)?
Also, there doesn't seem to be any way of uninstalling WaveStudio 5.00.2, unless I uninstall the whole suite of Creative MediaSource software... And that doesn't seem like very much fun at all... ? So, what, should I just leave WaveStudio 5.00.2 on the machine?

WaveStudio 5.00.20 can not be removed as a "stand-alone" application. The reason is, it's not listed as a separate program in Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs, and WaveStudio 5.00.20 has no Uninstall option.
Furthermore, WaveStudio 7.2 doesn't seem to overwrite the earlier version (it's still there and for some odd reason, it still works).
In order to remove the old version of WaveStudio, you must remove whichever Creative application that version of WaveStudio came bundled with.? Then, when you reinstall that application, WaveStudio 3.0 (or whatever iteration that application contained)?comes right back.
Therefore, the answer seems to be, you have to?li've with two versions of WaveStudio on the 'puter:? 7.2?and whatever earliest version the original bundled software?came with on the Soundblaster disc. Sad, but apparently true!? So, good day!? :smileytongue:

How to fix non-working CS6 product Help menus

I had been running the CS6 Master Collection trial download version. I could not access the "Online Help" and "Support Center" choices in the main Help menu on any of the CS6 applications. The options were not working, able to connect, or gave errors because the Help folder did not exist or was corrupted.
If you have this problem, you don't need to uninstall and reinstall your product or the suite. The problem is corrupt or missing help files.
This is what I'm running: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Adobe Support provided this solution for both desktop and netbook.
Close all running Adobe applications.
In the Windows directory C:/Program Files (x86)/Adobe/, delete the "Adobe Help" folder.
(C:Program Files (x86)/Adobe/Adobe Help/).
Reboot.
Go to the Adobe Community Help center at http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/ to get the latest Adobe Help Manager.
On the left side of Hep Center, skip Step 1 and click the "Install Now" button in Step 2.
Choose to save "AdobeHelp.air" in the application or programs folder on your computer.
When the new Adobe Help Manager app opens, choose "General Settings."
Select "No" for "Display Local Help content only settings" so you can access both online and local help.
At the bottom of the settings window, click "Download" to download all the latest PDF and lcoal content. The downloaded folders are more than 1 GB for the CS6 Master Suite help files. Watch at the bottom left of the download window to see the small progress meter.
Once done, reboot.
My CS6 Master Collection help menus throughout were fixed.

This is not working for me. I follow the instructions to the T and still I have the exact same problem - no offline help is available. When I open the Help Manager and it shows that the help files are current and I click one and then ask to open the PDF, I get nothing happening at all.
If I click in Help Manager to see offline help only, hitting F1 in AE does nothing. If I allow Help Manager to view both offline and online help and hit F1, no problem; as long as I'm online!
There was another fix listed to resolve this issue that did nothing too. For some time it was just wait until June, well the PDF files are available but Help Manager has become Frustration Inducer.

Distortion of speed changed action in final product - help!

Hello everyone,
I'm a newbie to the Mac world and am now playing with my FCE HD program. I took a short fight seq. on my Sony CyberShot 5.0 mega pixels (yes, old camera!) and downloaded as a QT movie. I then imported this into FCE. I increased the scene 200%. On FCE it looks great, but when I burned it on iDVD that particular action scene became distorted. I recall checking to blend frames which I did. I thought maybe importing it as a MPG4 would make a difference? Help!
Also...when I open this scene in QT PRO and increase the speed of the scene. I import it to FCE and it plays back at normal speed... why does it do that?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.....thank you!

I found out what I did... I think. I read about "not converting, and, not confining" when exporting. I didn't do that and when I burned it to disc, the speeded up action sequences were clean. Hope this is helpful for anyone else.

Displaying products (HELP!!)

I was wondering if it is possible to have my small format products (in a catalog) displayed differently?
Is it possible to have your products in a catalog displayed in a drop down menu or anything other than standard display?
I know when displaying products in catalogs you can have the images shown or just titles. But I want to display my products in a drop down menu to make the web page clean and not cluttered with tons of different images or product titles. My products are image sizes and frame sizes. it will look much better for my clients and customers to see a couple menus compared to a LIST of sizes.

Can BC add shipping to attributes? if so how? and if so THAT WOULD MAKE IT A LOT EASIER!!!!

Use Adobe Fireworks or the free GIMP. Either or will do just great for web theme creation. Photoshop is way overkill and you'll spend more time learning how to use it then in being productive. Adobe Fireworks is made for the creation of web graphics and has excellent bitmap and vector support.

Confused re Oracle Security Products - Help

Right. I'm experienced with Oracle Discoverer, AS, CMSDK, OC4J, SSO, OID , I am very good on the database and good on RAC
I did a lot of work on various sites enabling SSO /OID ..
Now I go to look at new and improved security /IM products. I have to say I am completely lost.
What goes where ? Is SSO still available, is OID still used. What is all this eSSO . I understand Kerberos and GSSAPI , LDAP and SSL what are all the authentication products.
What is obsolete, what is current, what is coming. Is there any coherent document that lays out strategy in this area, because most of our customers are just as confused

If you declared a fine-grained auditing policy on just the 5 or 6 tables you say you are interested in, why would you expect that to cause a performance issue?
Why would you expect it to be more efficient to send an email when those tables are accessed rather than having FGA write a row to an audit table?
That doesn't make sense. Connecting over the network to the SMTP server and exchanging dozens of packets with the SMTP server to send an email is going to be orders of magnitude less efficient than writing a row to an audit table. If you're writing so many rows to the audit table that this becomes a performance bottleneck, you'd be filling the inbox of whoever received these emails with far more messages than they could possibly handle.
I haven't read the particular book you reference. Most books and papers that discuss auditing will discuss the performance implications. And they generally caution that you should be thoughtful about what you audit because if you make the mistake of trying to audit every action, you're going to end up spending most of your time writing audit records. And your audit trail is going to be so large that you won't be able to do anything with it because it's too annoying to query. That doesn't mean that Oracle's auditing is inherently problematic, it simply means that you need to be aware that auditing requires the database to do more work and that you should be judicious about auditing things that you actually care about.

Plantronics C12 Wireless Phone a Wireless Killer/Would a Range Booster Linksys Product help with Interference?

I am a technician in the I.T field of about 12 years. I am a rather decent troubleshooting, however wireless is not my area of expertise, but I am far from a beginner with it.
I read in some review that that phone mentioned inthe subject was a wireless killer, but I went ahead and bought it anyway.
Worked for a while with little issue, but often..as soon as I pick up the phone when receiving a phone call, my Wireless is shot.
I have tried changing frequencies from 1-11 hearing that 11 was the luckier pick. Nothing seems to be working.
It is cause and effect when I pick up the phone. Quite sick.
Plus, very recently it has been drop[ping frequently and intermittently. I have read the articles on intermittent connection and none of it seems to apply.
I am wondering if there is a way to analyze wireless traffic/noise/interference.
Live in an apartment and it usually works, but for the past month it has been the worst ever.
Any ideas?
Oh, I re-upgraded the firmware to 4,7,1,1 I think Its a WRT54GS V2

There are also other things that you can do to improve your wireless connections:
First of all, give your network a unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router. Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, wireless speakers, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
Ultimately, an apartment complex is often a difficult environment to run a wireless system. Other possible solutions include: (1) setting up a single (or perhaps just a few) wireless router in the building, and having all users share this router (2) change your system to wireless a, which runs in the 5+ GHz band or (3) change your system to a wired network.

903/902/BC4J can't get data-sources.xml conn pooling to work in production; help

I have several BC4J ears deployed to a 903 instance of OC4J being configured as a standalone
instance. I've had this problem since I started deploying in development on 902. So it's
some basic problem that I've not mastered.
I can't get data-sources.xml managed connection pooling to actually pool conn's. I'm wanting
to declare my jndi jdbc source connection pool in j2ee/home/config/data-sources.xml.
Have all BC4J apps get conns from this JNDI JDBC pool. I've removed all data-sources.xml from my BC4J ears,
and published the jndi jdbc source in my oc4j common data-sources.xml. I've tested that this is
the place controlling the conn URL/login passwd by commenting it out of config/data-sources.xml
and my BC4J apps then throw exceptions, can't get conn.
I've set the oc4j startup cmd line with the BC4J property to enabled connection pooling:
-Djbo.doconnectionpooling=true
symptom
Connections are created and closed. Instead of being put back into the pool managed by oc4j,
what ever BC4J is doing or my data-sources.xml is doing, the connections are just being created and
closed.
I can verify this via (solaris) lsof and netstat, where I see my oc4j instance under test load
with only 1 or 2 conns to the db box, and the ephemeral port is tumbling, meaning a new socket is

Trying to install Photoshop CS6 on my Mac, it says that my serial number for another product, help!

I copy the number exactly as it came on the invoice, but none the less keep getting the same error message. I paid for this program, why cannot I install it?

You should be able to atleast copy and paste the key as it is? However even if you type it should work.
Which portal version are you using ??
There is a bug in portal below 902 where the external application details (extra parameters) are not submitted to the provider so auth will fail.
If this is the case, you need to get the patch applied from the metalinks.
